Tim Howard will start as the top goalkeeper for the United States in next month's Gold Cup, moving past veteran Kasey Keller. USA coach, Bob Bradley says: "We enter this tournament with the thought that Tim Howard is our number one goalkeeper. I'ts a discussion weve had with Tim and Kasey. In the last camp they really challenged each other and really worked well." (25/05/07) |

Andy Johnson and Harry Hill tasted success for their respective countries tonight, as Ireland saw off Slovakia at Croke Park, whilst AJ was substituted for Everton prospect David Nugent, as England laboured to a 3-0 against part timers Andorra. Nace was the unlucky Blue as his Scotland side went down 2-0 to World Champions Italy in the Scots crucial Group B game in Bari. (28/03/07) |

Phil Neville and AJ were both substituted as England were held to a 0-0 draw in Israel last night, but both look likely to start on Wednesday evening as England take on the mighty Andorra in a must win game in Barcelona. Joey Yobo's Nigeria won 1-0 against Uganda in an African Nations Qualifier, and Tim Howard also tasted success for America as a Landon Donovan hat trick gave The States a 3-1 success over Ecuador. Big Vic has travelled to Nigeria with Joey Yobo even though he is not in Berti Vogts' full squad for the game against Uganda. He wants to show the Nigerian Football Association he wants to play for the country of his birth. Joey says: "Victor is very interested in playing for Nigeria, and he has made that clear many times. Unfortunately, there have been a lot of mis-communication, so he wants to take this opportunity to come down and discuss matters with NFA officials and the manager to clear the air. For him to have broken into the Everton first team shows the kind of quality he has and I have no doubt he can do a job for Nigeria. He is big, strong and quick and he is not afraid to get stuck in.The good thing is that he is very keen to represent his country. That is why he wants to come down and speak to those in charge." Under-23 coach Samson Siasia says: "It is a good thing to see a player so patriotic about Nigeria." (21/03/07) |

Phil's expected to play right back for England in Tel Aviv against Israel on Saturday. This will be his 56th cap. It will also be 141 caps for the brothers Neville equaling Sir Bobby (106) and Jack Charlton's (35) total for brothers playing for England. Phil says: "To be honest it probably means more to my mum and dad and the grandparents because it is something they will be very proud of. But for me and Gary to be even mentioned in the same calibre as Sir Bobby and Jack is slightly embarrassing because they were great players who have won something for England. We haven't won anything and, in that respect, it is slightly embarrassing." I've been in the squad consistently for a number of years and, whenever there have been injuries, I have tended to get put into different positions. That's probably my role in this set-up. It shouldn't matter where you play when you play for your country. You play anywhere the manager tells you. When you start out you are happy to play from one to 11, then you want to cement your place in one particular slot but when you get to 50 caps you think 'I'll play anywhere again now!' It's been
a blessing in disguise that I can play in a number of positions otherwise
I wouldn't have got to the caps total that I'm on at the moment. If I
had been classed as a right-back for my whole career, I probably wouldn't
have got 10 caps with my brother in the way because he has been the most
outstanding full-back in Europe over the last 10 years. I've always looked
at it as a strength rather than a weakness that I can play in a number
of positions. It could benefit me this week because we've got players
injured and gaps needed to be filled." (21/03/07) |

AJ and Phil have both been called up to Malcolm McClaren squad for the crucial forthcoming Euro qualifiers against Andorra and Israel. Both players are expected to feature in the games, with Phil should deputising at left back with Cashley Cole and Wayne Bridge both out. AJ should partner Wayne Rooney up front with Michael Owen still being crocked. (16/03/07) |

Well played to Iain Turner who has been called up to the Scottish first team squad by new Boss Alex McLeish. Turns who has been getting rave reviews whilst on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, is one of four keepers called up, so it will be an experience exercise if nothing else, but it bodes well for the future. The Scots also called up Nace as they battle to qualify for Euro 2008 with games against Georgia and Italy in the coming weeks. (14/03/07) |

Harry Hill played the full match as his Republic of Ireland side scraped through 2-1 over San Marino in their Euro Qualifier. Ex Everton wide man Zinedine Kilbane opened the scoring for the Irish. Not so good news for Everton skipper Phil Neville who lasted 70 odd minutes as England slumped to a 1-0 home defeat in the friendly against Spain, at Cold Trafford. At least Phil was not on the pitch at the end, as the players rightly left to a crescendo of boo's from the fans in a lack luster performance. (08/02/07) |

Everton new boy Manny Fernandes scored in his country's 3-0 U21's victory over Estonia last night. The Portuguese youngsters are currently involved in a four way tournament also involving The Czechs and Slovenia. The Final is on Thursday when Manny's Portugal take on The Czechs, so don't expect to see the youngster in action this Saturday at Goodison. Tiny Tim lasted 74 minutes as the Aussies crashed to a 3-1 defeat to Denmark at Loftus Road. Joey Yobo managed to stay on the pitch for the full ninety as The Super Eagles, who weren't so super last night, were battered 4-1 by Ghana at Brentford's Griffin Park. (07/02/07) |

A good indicator that Andy Johnson may be fit for tomorrow's clash against the shite, is the fact that Malcolm McLaren has today named the striker in his England squad for next weeks clash against Spain AT Old Trafford. Nace and Jimmy Mac have been called up to Alex McLeish first Scotland squad next week, to play with each other. The Scots don't have a game planned, so the new boss wants a get together to assess his new squad. Everton's Andy Johnson worked tirelessly last night as England were held to a 1-1 draw in Amsterdam against the Dutch. Everton old boy Wayne Rooney got England off to a great start with a first half strike, but the Dutch cancelled that goal out with an effort four minutes from time. AJ was out wide right in a three man attack, and although short on chances, England Coach Malcolm McClaren was quick to sing the Everton's front man praises, as he got through 75 minutes of the game. Malcolm
says: "He did a fantastic job for us. We wanted flexibility
up front. He did a job for the team and that is what's most important.

Its
that annoying time of the year again, when International Teams meet
up to play pointless matches, as they need to prepare for their next
Qualifying games in four months time. Anyway Wales pointless match is

John Toshack's squad. At least he will be home for his supper as they
have decided to play the game in Wrexham, so he won't have far to travel.

Phil Neville ended up with a hamstring injury even though he was only sub before England's 2-0 defeat in Croatia. Lee Carsley was booked but played the full 90 minutes for The Republic of Ireland in a 1-1 draw against the Chec Republic. Weir and McFadden played in Scotland's 2-0 defeat by the Ukraine. Faddy was booked and will miss the next Scotland game through suspension. Simple Simon enjoyed a rear Wales 3-0 win against Cyprus, crossing for Koumas and then for narky arse to score. Nuno Valente played in a 2-1 defeat for Portugal against Poland. (11/10/06) |

Tiny is on his way back to Goodison after coming through his International week safe and sound. The Australian midfielder played 80 minutes today in the yellows 2-0 over Bahrain. Harry Hill has been called up to Steve Stauntons Irish squad for this Wednesday vital clash against the Czech Republic in Dublin. The Irish who were humbled by Cyprus 5-2 on Saturday have been giving the youngsters a shout, but after growing criticism from the players and media alike, Staunton has relented and called up Harry, maybe now thinking that his job may well be on the line. It is a huge turnaround for Staunton as only yesterday he was resisting talk of bringing back Everton's in form midfielder, but 24 hrs is a long time in football, not shit its politics, ahhh who gives a monkeys chuff. Staunton says: "No, because we are looking forward. A lot of you (the media) didn't have many nice things to say about Lee when he last played for Ireland." (10/10/06) |

The 1-0 win over France has Jimmy Mac really happy. Jimmy Mac says: "It's the best result that I've been involved in during my career, not just with Scotland. It was a great result and keeps us top of the league and further away from France and Italy. It was even better than when I scored the winner against Holland. France are probably the best team in the world at the minute and if they are not the best then they are one of them and so we are absolutely delighted to get the win. The Holland result was a good result but we didn't follow that up, we got pasted in Holland so I think this is more important because it keeps the good run going. It was great in the dressing room afterwards. It wasn't a great performance but it was very effective and we are absolutely delighted." (08/10/06) |

Davey Weir rolled back the years to shackle Thierry Henry, Patrick Viera and co, as Scotland recorded a famous victory over the French in Glasgow earlier today. Jimmy Mac played his part as the Scots confounded the odds to claim their third win in a row in their European Group. Not so good news for Simple as the Welsh were humbled in Cardiff by Slovakia 5-1. Phil Neville kept the bench warm for the English as they were frustrated by a dogged Macedonian side, and how Boss Malcolm McLaren must have wished for our Andy Johnson to have been fit. (07/10/06) |

Tim Cahill for the second time in a week suffered a last second goal to deny his team a win. Last week as we well know City nicked a point at Goodison with the last kick of the game, and today in Brisbane Paraguay scored a 93rd minute equaliser, cancelling out a Tony Popovic header in the 87th minute. Tiny found himself with a yellow card for his troubles in a competitive friendly against a lively Paraguay side. Now get on a plane, get some kip, and get fit for Boro next week. (07/10/06) |

Wales boss, John Toshack may only play Simple in one of the two games this week, due to lack of first team appearances at Everton. John Toshack says: "Simon's situation at Everton is not something that he can entirely be happy with. There will come a time when it will probably affect him. He is one of our more experienced players, but sometimes these things can work the other way for you. He has joined up with us for a couple of games hopefully determined to show people what he can do on the international stage. Anything he may lack in fitness, and he has barely played for weeks now, can be made up with enthusiasm. Certainly for one game, but two in five days is an other thing." (06/10/06) |

Jimmy Mac came through an hour of the rezzies draw against Sheffield United last night to declare himself fit to face France this weekend. Davey Weir also played in the same game and came through with no hiccups, so Walter and Moyesy will be happy enough that the pair have some action under their belts. After the International break is over, Jimmy will be targeting the Everton first eleven, but as he knows competition will be tough. Jimmy says: It's good to get back in and get that tired feeling again. Hopefully I'm through everything now and I'm looking forward to Saturday's game against France but when I get back to Everton, I obviously want to get back into the team. I want to play a part of what is going on because it is a perfect time to be involved and I want to get back in the fold as soon as possible. Pre-season had gone well and I was looking forward to coming back after the first International break. I was desperate to force my way into the side but I had a little set back and obviously have missed the last few games, which was disappointing. I just want to put that behind me now and look to the future." (04/10/06) |

Tiny has been called up to the Socceroo's squad for the first time since his World Cup heroics in the Summer. Tim and his Australian team mates face Paraguay and Bahrain over the International break. Bad news though for Harry Hill who has been over looked for the Irish squad for their World Cup showdown with Cyprus and the Czech Republic. The hirsute midfielder had put his name back in the frame for an International recall, but ex shit 'ed Steve Staunton obviously has other ideas. Harry says: "Of course I am disappointed because I was hoping to be included. But all I can do is continue to do my best for Everton and just hope that the international door isn’t completely closed because I still want to play for Ireland." (26/09/06) |

Victor Anichebe has accepted the invitation to play for Nigeria Under 20's. As reported earlier in the season, Vic wants to play for his country of birth. Earlier this year he was selected to play for England Under 19's, but didn't play. Vic will play for The Super Eagles on 30th September 2006 in an African Youth Championship qualifier with Rwanda. If Nigerian beat Rwanda they go forward to the tournament in Congo in January 2007. Vic says: "I would love to represent Nigeria because that is where I'm from. My family moved to England when I was just one year old, but I still feel Nigerian. I have been a fan from childhood and follow events back home on a regular basis." (13/09/06) |

Davie Weir celebrated his fiftieth cap for Scotland with a win and a booking. Davie says: "It means so much to win my 50th cap, but to win it with a win makes it that bit more important. When they scored late on, it turned the game around a bit. But we deserved it and there are a lot of things to be happy about. I have always been delighted to play for Scotland and it was nice to come back and get the opportunity - it is nights like this which make it all worthwhile. We will just look to the next game now - this is a very tough group. We have started well and have to be positive and enjoy it now and take it for what it is. But we know there is a lot of hard work to do but cannot do better than we have so far." (06/09/06) |

Simple played for the Welsh as they went down to a spirited defeat against the Czech Republic in Teplice last night. After the trials and tribulations of their flight out to Czechoslovakia, the Boyo's thought they have done enough to merit a well earned point. Last minute heartache followed though as debutant David Lafata scored at the death to take all the points. manager, Steve McLaren says: "We've

Simple played the full 90 min's for Wales as they fought out a well deserved 0-0 draw against Bulgaria at Swansea's Liberty Stadium last night. The much maligned Everton midfielder played his part for the Welsh and worked hard in the middle of the park. Moyesy for one would have been happy with Simples performance, but not as happy as my missus as she had to miss Holby City, due to me watching the match on Sky. She was heard to scream at me around half eight in the evening, 'but your not even Welsh'. She may have a point, but I do know a guy from Caerphilly. Hello Dai if you are reading this !! (16/08/06) |
