Everton Players International Round Up - 2007/2008

All The News of Everton players on International Duty

Trio Called Up

Joey, Big Vic and The Yak have all been called up to Nigeria's World Cup Qualifying Squad this Summer. The three Nigerians will have their Summer jollies cut short as they face Equatorial Guinea (twice), Sierra Leone and South Africa in a three week period. Then the three players are off to Benidorm on the lash before returning to Finch Farm early July for pre season training. (23/04/08)

International Roundup

Tim Howard played the full 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet for the USA in a 3-0 win against Poland. Joleon Lescott came off the bench at half time for John Terry for England to earn his 5th cap for his country in the 1-0 defeat against France. (27/03/08)

Debut Goal For Vic

Vic came on as a second-half substitute and scored on his first game in a Nigerian shirt. A 3-0 win for Nigeria over South Africa gave them the final African spot at the 2008 Olympic Games. (26/03/08)

Vic To Start As Nigerian Olympian

Big Vic is expected to finally play for Nigeria with a debut for the country's under-23 team today in Abuja for their final Olympic qualifier against South Africa. There have been some misunderstandings in the past when some people thought the 18 year old would try his luck with England. Vic has always said he wants to join The Yak and Joey at Nigeria. (26/03/08)

Fabio Likes Him

Rogers scintillating form this season has earned him another call up from Fabio, no not the gay American designer, but Fabio the New England Gaffer. Jesus remember when England Managers were called Alf, Ron and Don, Fabio what's all that about. Anyhow Roger will be in the squad as our National Team face France next week in the Stade de France. Give 'em hell Roger. (20/03/08)

In Form For USA

Tim was pretty good in the 2-2 draw with Mexico. Both goals were off set plays, down to poor defending — he never had a chance at either goal. Otherwise he made a few nice saves, including one where he nearly killed Carlos Bocanegra in the first half. He seems to have come through unscathed, hopefully healthy and rested for this week. Ryan Jones. Bluekipper's North American Correspondent. (08/02/08)

Brazil

Lee carsley started for the Republic of Ireland in their 1-0 defeat to Brazil in Wednesday's friendly at Croke Park. (07/02/08)

Goal For Cahill

Tim Cahill scored Australia's second goal in their 3-0 win over Qatar today. He came off after 67 mins and now travels back to Merseyside. Moyesy will see how the jet lag is before adding him to the squad against Reading on Saturday. (05/02/08)

Portugal U21s

Manny had a good game for Portugal's U21's as they beat Scotland 2-1. (04/02/08)

The Good and The Bad News

Moyesy will have The Yak and Joey at his disposal for next weeks crunch Premiership tie against Reading, after the two Nigerians fell at the Quarter Final stage in the African Nations Tournament. Nigeria lost 2-1 to Ghana, even after The Yak gave the Super Eagles the lead after half an hour. With Peanuts already back on Merseyside, Moyesy will have his full squad available again, well nearly !!

Tiny and Tim Howard have been picked for the Aussie's and USA respectively for this weeks International's. Tim Howard has jetted out for this weeks USA clash with Mexico in Houston, but Tiny may have to miss next weeks Reading game after he will have travelled around the world to appear for the Australians against Qatar in Melbourne on Wednesday. He may be a bit cream crackered after all that. (03/02/08)

Out and Coming Home

Peanuts is flying back to Merseyside after his South African side failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the African Nations Cup. The Bafana Bafana (don't ask), were held to a draw by Senegal, which was not enough for the Southern Africans to progress to the next stage. One down two to go, hopefully Nigeria's next opponents will also do a job for us. (31/01/08)

Just Roger

Fabio Capello's first squad has been announced and Roger is the only Blue in the set up for next weeks friendly against Switzerland. It looks like Phil Neville's International days are numbered after the new Boss has brought some more youth into his set up. Andy Johnson has been over looked as well, but no doubt once the Blues hit man starts finding the onion bag again, it won't be long till he finds his way back into the Countries colours. (31/01/08)

Nigeria Move Into Quarter Finals

A 2-0 win over Benin secured a quarter final game against hosts Ghana for Nigeria. The Yak scored the winner 5 minutes from time. So Joey Yobo will stay in Africa with the Everton striker a bit longer. (30/01/08)

Nearly All Over For Peanuts

It doesn't look good for Peanuts and the South Africans to progress to the second stage of the African Nations. They were beaten 3-1 by Tunisia in the second game of the group. They play Senegal in their next match. All three Blues could be home within the week, it just get better. (27/01/08)

Coming Home?

If the Ivory Coast do a job on Mali early next week, Joey and The Yak will be back at Goodison to help the Blues push for a Champions League place sooner than expected. Joey's Super Eagles drew with Mali themselves on Friday night, and with the Ivory Coast maintaining the 100% record in beating Benin, it means an uphill battle for Nigeria to qualify. Get in there. (26/01/08)

Opening Draw

Not the best of nights for Peanuts as after the Blues crashed out to Chelsea in the Carling Cup, Peanuts was dragged off after seventy minutes in South Africa African Nations opener against Angola. The Bafana Bafana drew with the Angolans one all, and Peanuts replacement Elrio van Heerden grabbed the equaliser for the South Africans. (24/01/08)

Blues Pair Lose Opener

Good news for the Blues but bad news for Joey and The Yak after Nigeria lost their opening African Nations match 1-0 to The Ivory Coast, with Salomon Kalou grabbing the only goal of the game. The Super Eagles will now have to overcome Mali in their next match to make sure they have a chance of proceeding to the next stage of the Tournament. Chaps I love you both, but come on Mali. (21/01/08)

Club v Country

Tim Cahill could be in new Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek's squad for Australia’s World Cup qualifier against Qatar in Melbourne on 6th February 2008. This could mean he may miss Everton's games against Blackburn Rovers and Reading.

Tim says: “I’m available for Australia any time. I fought so hard in court cases to play for Australia that I’m not all of a sudden going to turn around and say I don't want to play for Australia. I’ve had a meeting with Pim and David Moyes and I think it just comes down to commonsense. But he (Verbeek) knows he’s got my 100 per cent backing and that’s the main thing.” (17/01/08)

The Good and Bad

The good news for Blues fans, is that Big Vic has been omitted from the forthcoming African Nations Squad by Nigerian Manager Berti Vogts. The bad news for the Blues though is that Joey and free scoring Yak have both been included in the provisional thirty one man squad for the training camp in Spain ahead of the African Nations Tournament In mid January. (11/12/07)

Staying Home

Roger and The Three Lions Crash Out

The weather seemed to sum up England's performance as they crashed out of the Euro Championships at Wembley to Croatia last night, piss poor. Roger played at centre back as England especially in the first period failed to contain the lively Croats. The second period brought a mini revival, but unfortunately it was to little to late, as Croatia netted the winner with ten minutes or so left on the clock. Roger will now like the rest of us have to get in to the Cricket next Summer. Back to the music business for Malcolm McClaren me thinks. (22/11/07)

Down & Out

Scotland are out of Euro 2008 and after a typical brave effort in their 2-1 defeat over World Champions Italy. It was cruel for Faddy and the Scots as Italty scored a last minute winner. Faddy was in a ness at the end. Let's hope he can pick himself up for the Toffees next week.

Faddy says "I had a great chance and it could have been different if I put that away."I'm bitterly disappointed. We think we deserve to be at a major championships." (18/11/07)

Wales and Rep of Ireland ended in a draw. Lee Carsley playing the full 90

And good news for Roger and England. Israel beat Russia 2-1 which means England need only a draw to qualify.

Faddy's Out

Good Luck Faddy

Good Luck to Faddy and ex Toffeemen Davie Weir and Nace in their game against the Italians. The Scots need to beat Italy to qualify for Euro 2008.

Italy see Faddy as their biggest threat

Italy captain Cannairvaro says "McFadden is a great, great player. He is clearly a very important player for Scotland and he is someone we must respect. He has already done so much in this group. We will consider McFadden very carefully when we think about our approach to this match. (17/11/07)

Faddy

3 Drop Out

Our 3 stars have dropped out of their squads with various injuries. Which as far as I'm concerned is good news for the Toffees. Nigeria have really spat the dummy out with Victor.

Emeka Ezeala, Nigerian coach says "Berti and I watched him play with the hand against Nuremberg in a Uefa Cup game two weeks ago. So, why is he dodging to play?" (17/11/07)

Full 90

Roger played the full ninety minutes in the 1-0 win friendly against Austria. He had a steady game and always looked comfy. The circus act scored for England, on the stroke of half time to give England all three points. Had you there it was a friendly, of for a pint now !! (17/11/07)

Full Ninety

In's and Out's This International Weekend

Roger starts for England in their friendly encounter against Austria in Vienna on Friday evening. Our in form defender will play in his favoured position of centre half, winning his third cap.

Tiny Tim has pulled out of Australia's friendly against Nigeria in London on the advice of Everton's medical staff. Well played Baz. In the same match Big Vic has also pulled out of Nigeria's squad due to injury and The Yak may also follow. Fresh legs all round next week then. If its good enough for Ryan Giggs and co., its good enough for our boys. (16/11/07)

Roger Starts

Rivals For The Day

Tiny Tim will come up against Big Vic and The Yak, as the Aussie's take on Nigeria this weekend at Fulham's Craven Cottage in an International Friendly. Good news that our boys are in the International mix, but bad news come January when Moyesy may well be without Big Vic, The Yak and Joey for the African Cup of Nations with Nigeria qualifying. (14/11/07)

Duo Called Up

Phil Neville and Joleon Lescott's impressive club form has earned them both call ups for England's crucial European Qualifying match at Wembley against Croatia next week. England first though meet Austria next weekend in a friendly and with Malcolm McClarens defensive back line short on numbers, expect both Roger and Phil to add to the International cap tally. (09/11/07)

Not The Best of Nights

Roger and Jimmy Mac both suffered defeats as England and Scotland went down to Russia and Georgia respectively tonight. Roger was hauled off with twenty to go after suffering a torrid few minutes when substitute and double goal scorer Roman Pavluchenko entered the fray. Jimmy Mac fared no better in Georgia as the Scots were turned over 2-0. Their qualification at least is still in their own hands whilst the English have to see if Israel can at least draw with Russia, then turn over Croatia themselves at Wembley in November. Never mind I think its New Zealand and South Africa touring next year in the old leather on willow sport. (17/10/07)

Roger You Just Cost Us 250k, Well Played

Roger has pipped Everton team mate Phil Neville and has been picked at left back for tonight's crucial Euro Clash in Moscow against Russia. Malcolm Mc, likes what he see's in Roger and he has had no doubts picking him in the full back slot. With the ex Wolves defender appearance on Saturday against Estonia, it is believed to have cost the Blues £250k as part of the deal that brought Roger to Goodison from the Midlands in 2006. Get the cheque book out Bill.

Moyesy for one is happy that his charge is now making news for England.

Moyesy says: "We all hope Joe will be involved and it will be great for Everton if he can become a regular. You always judge yourself on how many players you have in your national team. We are really pleased for him. It was thoroughly deserved. We all know about his ability on the pitch but he is a very good listener and he wants to improve all the time. (17/10/07)

Starts

Winning Debut

Well played to Roger who made his full England debut at Wembley today, as the National side beat Estonia to take a massive step towards qualification to next years Euro Championships. Roger came on at half time and slotted in to the left back position after Ashley Cole's injury led to some shuffling of the back four by Malcolm McClaren. His Everton team mate Phil Neville played right back as England dispatched of a poor Estonian side 3-0.

Jimmy Mac set up Kenny Miller for Scotland's first goal, and then scored one himself as the Scots beat a lively Ukrainian side 3-1 at Hampden Park. Jimmy Mac who has come of age this season, scored another memorable goal from fifteen yards out with a low drive into the Ukrainians net. Well played to all. (13/10/07)

Debut

Goal Again

Roger, Phil and AJ In

Roger, Phil and AJ have all been called into Malcolm McLarens England squad for the forthcoming Euro Qualifiers against Estonia and Russia next week. For Roger in particular his form has been superb both in the defending and in the scoring department, and he may be seriously pushing for a place on the subs bench. AJ however may be struggling to make it, as with his groin injury keeping him out of the Everton set lately, Moyesy may be forced to keep his out of form striker back on Merseyside. (05/10/07)

Cars To Face Germany

Lee Carsley has been named in the Republic of Ireland squad which will play Germany and Cyprus in their forthcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers later this month. (03/10/07)

Magnifique McFadden

Faddy scored an absolute whoppa for Scotland against France in their 1-0 win in Paris. The Scotland lone striker hit a dipping shot from about 35 yards out and it flew in.

Alex McLeish says: “We knew we had to weather the storm from France and then James McFadden hit an inspirational goal. He is capable of doing something different and that was a bit special. I never named the team until just after the pre-match meal and I was going to give James a different role but I just felt he could do something up front.”

Jimmy Mac says: “It is a fantastic result. We beat them at Hampden and that was classed as an upset but come here and beat them in a qualifying game is unbelievable. I don’t remember a better result. France are one of the best teams in the world. It was not pretty at times but we defended well and then I was lucky enough to score. It was just one of those things. I thought, ‘Hit it now and think about it later.’ I believe that we can win the other games now.” (13/09/07)

Super Strike

Dislocated Finger

Tim Howard dislocated a finger in USA's 4-2 defeat against Brazil. Despite the injury he continued in goal and made some great saves. The medical team will assess his finger today to see if he will be fit to play against Man Utd on Saturday. (10/09/07)

The Yak & Vic Injured

Joey Yobo lead his Nigeria team to a 2-0 win over Lesotho. The Yak and Big Vic never played as they both picked up knocks. Both are expected to be fit for thr game against Man Utd on Saturday. (09/09/07)

Bench Boys

James McFadden came off the bench to score the winner for Scotland in the 3-1 over Lithuania. While AJ and Phil Neville came on for the last 20 minutes in England's 3-0 win over Isreal. Leave the pink boots at Wembley Phil! (08/09/07)

Vic Scores

Big Vic scored his first ever goal for Nigeria when the beat NAF Rockets in a friendly. The Super Eagles play Lesotho in an African Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday. (07/09/07)

Nuts For Brazil

Tim Howard is looking forward to facing the mighty Brazil in Chicago this weekend, as Ronaldhino and company take on the States in a prestigious friendly. Funny we always say that when Brazil are involved, but not when Columbia, Latvia, or the Peoples Republic of China are your opponents. Mmmmmm, I shall move on, Tim is excited, and if he is, well so am I.

Tim says: "It will be fun to get home, see the boys and we have an easy one against Brazil on Saturday. Playing Brazil is always special so hopefully we will be up for it and we will see what happens."

Steven Pienaar is in the South Africa squad to face to face Zambia in their crucial African Nations Qualifier. (05/09/07)

Reward For Roger

Joleon Lescott has been rewarded for his superb Everton performances with a call up to Malcolm McClaren's England Squad for the crucial Euro qualifiers against Israel and Russia next week. Roger will join team mates AJ and Phil Neville at the England Training Camp, as he replaces Sol Campbell who has pulled out with a hamstring problem. Rogers only England appearances have been at U21 Level, and an England B substitute appearance in the Summer. Good Luck Roger.

Malcolm says: "Joleon has been looking very solid for Everton this season, and has also scored a couple of goals, too. He is big and strong and is a threat at set-pieces as well, but as a defender he makes life very difficult for strikers. His versatility also means he is a good option as he can play in the middle of the defence or at full-back. He came on as a sub for the 'B' team at Burnley in May and looked assured and I think he's very capable of making the step up to the full team." (03/09/07)

Super Eagle Vic

Big Vic is ready to become a Super Eagle after being selected in Berti Vogts' 22-man squad for the game with Lesotho. After talking to England Under-21 coach Stuart Pearce about playing for England, the Everton youngster has decided to join Nigeria along with Yobo and Yakubu.

Vic says: "I think I am going to go to that. I got called by England last week as well but I don't really want to play for England, I want to play for Nigeria.

"I will go and see how things are. It is a huge compliment for me (for two countries to be interested) but I will edge towards Nigeria. Stuart Pearce had a chat with me and gave me his opinion but I took it onbard but I feel Nigeria is better for me." (01/09/07)

Yak

Vic

Joe

Selected

AJ and Phil Neville have both been selected in Malcolm's forthcoming England Squad for the crucial Euro Qualifiers against Israel and Russia in a weeks time. England who sit fourth in Group E, will welcome the sight of Wembley as they face Israel and Russia in back to back home games. (31/08/07)

Mixed Fortunes

It was mixed fortunes for Everton's International contingent across Europe last night. Tim Howard's USA went down 1-0 in Sweden, Phil Neville sat it out on the bench as England succumbed to the German machine 2-1 at Wembley. Jimmy Mac got a forty five minute run out as his Scottish team beat Steven Pienaar's South African side 1-0 up in Aberdeen, with the goal coming from Kris Boyd. (23/08/07)

Friendly

As expected Everton skipper Phil Neville and front man Andy Johnson have both been selected in Malcolm McClarens forthcoming England squad to face Germany at Wembley next Wednesday evening. Andy has a great chance of starting after the unfortunate injury to Everton old boy Wayne Rooney in last weeks League opener for manure. Peter Reid, Gary Stevens and Paul Bracewell have all been omitted from the current squad due to reasons Malcolm was not prepared to go into. (18/08/07)

In and Out

Harry Hill has been omitted from Steve Staunton's Republic squad to face Denmark in Aarhus next week, although the Irish manager is still claiming that Harry is part of his plans. Joey and Tim Howard have been called up for Nigeria and the USA respectively, but the good news is that both their friendlies are in Europe against Macedonia and Sweden so no jet lag for Moyesy to worry about.

Staunton says: "When Lee came back into the squad last year we agreed that if I was not going to use him I wouldn't bring him around the world to sit on the bench. However, he is still in my plans for the games in September." (16/08/07)

Coming Home

Tiny Tim is on his way home after his Australian side failed to beat Japan in the Quarter Finals of The Asian Cup. The Aussie's drew 1-1 (AET), but the dreaded penalty shoot out was to be their down fall. Tiny as expected slotted one of his spot kicks, but Harry Kewell one of the bravest footballers ever to grace the game missed his to send the Aussie's home early. See you soon Tim, its Wigan in a few weeks. (21/07/07)

Bad News For Moyesy, Good News For Tim

A 4-0 drubbing of Thailand helped Australia secure a place in the second phase of the Asian Cup. Tiny once again came on as a second half sub to set up crucial Mark Viduka goals which enabled the Socceroo's to progress out of the Group on goal difference. Tim and his team mates will now face the Japan in Hanoi, Vietnam on Saturday. (17/07/07)

Bad News For Tim, Good News For Moyesy

Tiny could be back in England within the week after his Australian team went down 3-1 to Iraq in the Asian Cup. Mark Viduka's goal could not help the embarrassing defeat against the Iraqi's, and now the Socceroo's have to rely on other results, and hope they turn over Thailand in three days time to go through to the next stage. Tiny himself came on as a second half substitute and could not repeat his heroics after his last minute equaliser in the previous Group game. (13/07/07)

Goal For Cahill

Tim Scores

Tim Cahill scored in injury time to snatch a 1-1 draw for Australia against Oman in the first game of the Asian Cup. Tim came on as sub with 25 minutes to go. The Aussie's are the tournie favourites, but were under the cosh for most of the game as Oman missed 3 good chances to pull off a major upset.Tim's next match in which he hopes to start is on 13th July when Australia play Iraq. (08/07/07)

Cahill Ready For Asian Cup

David Moyes will have an eye on the progress of his midfield goal machine, hoping that he will come through unscathed ready for the start of the Premiership in August. Tim was not risked in Australia's friendly against Singapore in which the Kangaroo's won 3-0. He is expected to be ready for the Asian Cup opener against Oman in Bangkok on 8th July 2007.

Tim says: "I've always been fresh and positive mentally, and now I'm just looking forward to the Asian Cup. This is one of the biggest tournaments outside the World Cup, and we've got a massive chance of some silverware. I love playing for Australia. It speaks for itself. The Asian Cup is something where realistically we've got a chance of winning. I need to make sure I stay right because I've got to go into the Premier League season straight after the Asian Cup. Obviously, the last 12 months haven't gone completely to plan, but I still played 16-18 games for Everton, scored seven goals. I played in the World Cup and finished in the top 50 of the Ballon d'Or European footballer of the year award. That's my season, so things aren't so bad after all." (04/07/07)

Gold Cup Winner

Tim Howard had a great game to help win the Gold Cup for the USA in a 2-1 win over Mexico with goals from Landon Donovan and Benny Feilhaber. Tim Was at his best to keep the Mexicans down to one goal. His world class save in the closing minutes meant the US won the trophy for a second-consecutive time.

Tim says: "I'm still in shock you know. It's just one of those things where you practice all the time, and sometimes it comes off for you. I saw the ball break through and I tried my best and today it was good enough. It's one I'll remember forever. Sometimes the team needs you to come up with a big save, and you know you can make a difference. I was elated." (25/06/07)

Softly Softly

Australia want Tim to last the tounie, so they are taking a cautious approach.

Australia coach Graham Arnold says: "While it's great to see Tim is running around, I'm not going to risk him for the friendly. The Asian championship is a long tournament and I want him there not just for the group games, but hopefully all the way to the final." (22/06/07)

In Safe Hands

Ahead of the Gold Cup semi-final today, Tim Howard took a break from training to reassure both Everton and USA fans that he will not become complacent now he is number 1 for both teams.

Tim says: "The next few years are my best years. I'm going to try and take full advantage of it, try to keep playing consistently for club and country, if given the opportunity, and just go from there. It's not my right to be the U.S. goalkeeper. I always feel I have something to prove. If I lose that competitive edge as a player, I'm lost. That's the way I am. I won't get complacent." (21/06/07)

Tim In Gold Cup Semi-Final

Tim Howard helped the USA move into the last 4 of the 2007 Gold Cup after a 2-1 win against Panama last night. Tim will play Canada on 21st June in Chicago for a place in the final. (17/06/07)

Debut

Vaughany made his U21 debut for England this evening when he came on as a substitute with eight minutes left on the clock against Italy in Holland. The game finished 2-2, and by far was the best match of the tournament up to now. One time Everton target, now likely Sunderland new boy David Nugent opened the scoring with a diving header. England then went two up, before the Italian fight back.

Manny Fernandes and his Portugal team mates face an uphill battle to qualify for the Semi Finals, as they were beaten 2-1 by hosts Holland in Groningen on Wednesday night. They now have to beat Israel on Saturday, and hope Holland turn over Belgium to make their stay in Holland longer. (14/06/07)

Bore Draw

Everton loan signing Manny Fernandes came closest to breaking the deadlock as Portugal's U21's played out a boring nil all draw against Belgium at the Euro Championship's in Holland. Manny whose future is still undecided at Everton, fired wide in the closing minutes with a ferocious low drive. The Portuguese midfielder looked at home in the match, as the tackles flew in thick and fast in an over physical encounter. (10/06/07)

Joey Backs Out

Joey Yobo is now officially on his Summer jollies after pulling out of Nigeria's African Nations Qualifier, with what is being described as severe back injury. Joey aggravated his back against Uganda last month, and the Everton defender has thought it wise to not risk it any further.

Joey says: "I've made frantic effort to shake off the injury but it is more severe than I first though. I played with the pains all through the game in Kampala and now need to rest it and wait to recover fully. The doctor says it could get worst if I keep pushing myself with it or playing through the pain killers." (10/06/07)

Tale of Two Tim's

Tim Howard kept a clean sheet as the USA got their Gold Cup campaign off to a flying start with a 1-0 over Guatemala. Tim had a quiet game in the sticks, only being called into action once. Trinidad is next for the American's, but Bob Bradley the USA Coach is thinking of playing ex Leicester keeper Kasey Keller in the sticks for that one.

Everton's other Tim will be fit for Australia's Asian Cup campaign starting early July. Tiny is expected to be fully fit for the Socceroo's opening match against Oman, and this will mean that the midfielder will not re join his Everton team mates till early August for the Premiership warm up's.

Tiny says: "I’ve got another X-ray to go but they’ve given me the all-clear for the Asian Cup. It’s feeling well. It’s just good to be back, good to be involved." (08/06/07)

Lone Ranger

Gary Naysmith was the only Everton first teamer to taste any International action on Wednesday night. He played the full ninety minutes as Scotland carried on their successful Euro campaign with a 2-0 in the Faroe Islands. Phil Neville sat out England's 3-0 win in Estonia, with Wes Brown being preferred in defence. (07/06/07)

Maybe Captain

Tim helped USA to a 4-1 win over China. China had ex-Toffee, Li Tie in their side. Tim has been picked out as one of the candidates for USA's new skipper.

New Coach Bob Bradley says: “What we’ve tried to do is make sure that there are a group of guys who are ready to take bigger roles in this team, guys who are ready to step up, to set the tone all the time. It has been really nice in every camp to see more and more guys joining that group. In this particular camp, Carlos Bocanegra got the nod. Carlos is a player who, for sure, has earned the respect of all his teammates with his commitment to the game. He plays hard. At the same time, it could have been Tim Howard." (03/06/07)

Defeat For Nigeria

Joey played in midfield for his country, were two dubious penalties gave Uganda a 2-1 win over The Super Eagles. (03/06/07)

Full Game For Nace

Gary Naysmith played the full 90 minutes in Scotland's 1-0 win over Austria. He played with ex-Everton skipper Davie Weir, but Iain Turner remained on the bench. (30/05/07)

Vaughany For England

Vaughany is in the England Under-21 squad for the friendly with Slovakia at Norwich City's Carrow Road on Tuesday 5th June 2007. (30/05/07)

Late Vic

Vic has answered some commentators who said he refused to play in a friendly for his country.

Vic says: "There was a complete mix-up with the travel arrangements. I was originally told that my arrival time would be Sunday and that surprised me because of the timings of the first game. I was then told that I had to fly via Germany to arrive in Nigeria on the Friday but that call came far too late for me to do anything about it. At no point have I indicated that I would not be willing to play in any friendly matches." (01/06/07)

Victor Anichebe did his International career no favours when he never turned up in time to play in a friendly. He was then told not to bother coming at all by Super Eagles coach Berti Vogts.

Nigeria's Technical Assistant Emeka Ezeala says: "Berti wanted to give him 90 minutes against Kenya to get him used to the African style and his team mates, and he was booked on a flight to arrive on Friday But he wanted to come on Sunday and Berti said it would be of no use as he would not play him in a competitive match without seeing him in a friendly so he should not bother at all." (29/05/07)

USA Number 1

Tim Howard will start as the top goalkeeper for the United States in next month's Gold Cup, moving past veteran Kasey Keller.

USA coach, Bob Bradley says: "We enter this tournament with the thought that Tim Howard is our number one goalkeeper. I'ts a discussion weve had with Tim and Kasey. In the last camp they really challenged each other and really worked well." (25/05/07)

Tim Howard

Trio Called Up

Nace, Faddy and Iain Turner have all been called up for Scotland's twenty three man squad for their forthcoming games against Austria and the Faroe Islands. It will be Faddy's first International run out since his broken foot earlier in the season, and Turns will be one of three keepers in Alex McLeish set up. (11/05/07)

Africa Cup of Nations

Joe is to play for Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda on 2nd June 2007. (03/05/07)
