Final
Defeat Again
Everton
were beaten 9-8 on pens in the final of The Senior Cup. The game itself
ended in a 1-1 draw, with Anichebe scoring with a deft header. Everton
dominated the second half with Paul Hopkins man of the match.
During the extra-time period Everton had the better of the chances,
but could not press home their advantage. Some great performances by
all the Academy lads, with Hoko, Goalkeeper Lake, defender Hughes, wing
back Boyle, and midfielder Gerrard having great games.
There was also a cameo performance from John Paul Kissock, who is just
14 years of age. Although he was by far the smallest player on view,
he looks a star of the future. (15/05/04)
Senior
Cup Final
Everton
play the redshite @ Goodison Park tonight (7:00p.m.) in the Final of
The Senior Cup. Prices are £3 for adults and £1 for kids
and senior citizens.
Neil Dewsnip will field his under 18's side. Neil says: “It’s a wonderful
way to end the season, but it’s going to be a tough test. As we all
know, form goes out of the window in a derby - passion and pride comes
to the fore and we’re raring to go and desperate to win the game. In
my opinion, young players don’t get to play in major stadia enough and
this will be an excellent learning curve for all the players involved.”
Everton's Squad: Lake, Gallagher, Wynne, Fox, Boyle, Hughes,
Gerrard, Wright, Seargeant, Harris, Phelan, Wilson, Hopkins, Anichebe,
Vaughan, Fowler, Irving, Molyneux, Kissock. (14/05/04)
Final Defeat
Everton
drew the second leg of the U17's final 1-1 at Goodison Park tonight.
Aggregate score was 5-2 to Villa. (12/05/04)
First
Leg Defeat
Everton
lost 4-1 in their 1st leg U17's final at Villa Park. Everton's goal
was scored by Paul Hopkins.
Final
Chance
Well
done boys! Gary Ablett's U17's got to the final in a close encounter
against Spurs yesterday morning. The game was 0-0 after 90mins, then
1-1 after extra time. James Vaughan, our scorer. It was all square after
5 penalties each. But Everton won it on sudden death penalties. (25/04/04)
| Semi's

U
17's Quarter Final
Gary
Ablett takes his U17 side into the Quarter Final play off for the FA
Premier Academy National Trophy tomorrow. Having already proven themselves
as the best U17 side in the North West, tomorrow is the first stage
of proving themselves the best in the country!
The match kicks off at Netherton at 11.30 so if you are not coughing
up £42 and going to Chelsea then get down there and shout the
lads on to victory. Good luck boys! (16/04/04)
| Senior
Cup Semi Final: Southport 0, Everton 1
A
thunderbolt from Brian Moogan was enough to send Everton into
the Final of the Senior cup, where they will play the redshite.
Manager Neil Dewsnip says: “Southport have won
the last six games in their league and they’re a team of men.
Obviously, we’re very, very young. Brian Moogan was the oldest
player at 19, so the rest of them were either 18, 17 - and Sean
Lake is still a schoolboy. So, it was a big ask to win, but I
was very pleased with them.” (31/03/04) |

Everton
U17's 4, redshite u17's 1.
Everton
battered the redshite 4-1, with four of the best goals you are
likely to see in one match. Firstly Paul Hopkins hit a screamer
from 20 yards after 2 minutes. Then Jay Harris hit another from
just outside the box to make it 2-0 after 15 minutes. The redshite
didn't like it, and had a man sent off for a disgusting 2 footed
tackle on Hoko, who was causing havoc. After 70minutes Laurence
Wilson hit the 3rd. Another unsoppable shot. This time from
30 yards. Andy Fowler hit the 4th. A great run and shot from
the edge of the box.
Coach Gary Ablett says: "It was a good
win and they were four smashing goals." (10/01/04)

Training
@ Bellefield for Youth Team
Everton
Youth team take on Coventry tonight in the FA Youth Cup at Highfield
Road. The squad made up of players from the Acadamey under 16s,
17's, & 19's were given the opportunity to train at Bellefield.
So they were mixing with the likes of Wayne Rooney. It gave them
a taster of what they can expect if they progress.
Neil
Dewsnip says: “We know that Coventry will be looking
to take a Premiership scalp. We haven’t considered them as anything
other than a Premier Academy. They were in the final three years
ago against Arsenal and also the year previous to that against
West Ham so they have a Youth Cup pedigree that mustn’t be underestimated
at all by anybody. But we’re going into the game with plenty of
confidence.
Squad: Gallagher, Lake, Wynne, Gerrard, Wright,
Fox, Hughes, Booth, Barry, J Jones, Boyle, Lynch, Fowler, Hopkins,
Pascucci, Seargeant, Wilson. (03/12/03) |

Scott
of England
Just a mention
on one of our young hopefuls, Scott Brown, who is currently in
Russia with the England u19s trying to qualify for next year's
Euro Championships.
Saturday they came up against a resolute Liechtenstein team, and
with Scott playing in right midfield, managed to win 2-0.
Monday...against a poor Angora side England were too strong, Scott
Brown had a good game and scored the 4th goal of a 4-0 win with
a 25 yarder.
Wednesday will see England play Russia, a repeat of these performance,
should see them qualify.

What
Has Happened In A Month?
Alan Harper
started with a win just over a month ago, as Under-19s
coach following the summer retirement of Colin Harvey. Then
last week he left! Seems a bit odd!
Academy
Director, Ray Hall said last week: “Alan left by mutual consent.
I spoke to him on Friday and I would like to put on record my
thanks and appreciation for the work he has done over the past
five years. He has been involved in the development of not only
the full time Academy players but also with some of the younger
players.” Neil Dewsnip takes over the U19's. Everton didn't
say if it was permanent or temporary.(04/09/03)

Brown - England International
Just a quick
note about one of our young [forgotten] stars...Last night in
Poland...Scott Brown played for England U19's. This 18 year old
is one of a select few who have represented England from the age
of 15 through to the 19,s...the same lad who scored the winning
goal in the second leg of the FA Youth Cup Final just over a year
ago.
For the record...Scott has put in, a man of the match performance
[England coach, Dick Bates said so] in a gutsy 0-0 draw in Warsaw....more
or less guaranteed his place in the next game, which is Russia
away....
Footnote -
He is the only member of the England squad not to be playing regular
reserve team football. Thanks to Vonny for the info. (22/08/03) |

Everton
U19's 0, Nigeria Youth 3. Wed 6th August, 2003. Kick-Off: 2.30pm
Everton
came up against a classy outfit today. Though the skillful Super
Eagles had most of the possession, it took two mistakes for
them to score the 2nd & 3rd goals. The first when Jay Potter
lost possession by trying to take on a man when the goalie was
available, & when defender & goalie hesitated for each
other to deal with a ball, & then let in a Nigerian forward
to score.
Everton
had their chances, notably through Anthony Barry, Damon Martland,
& Scott Brown who had a goal bound shot tipped around the
post.
Alan
Harper says: "That was a tremendous experience
for both myself and the lads. It's the first time that I've
ever been involved in a club v country game as a manager and
most of the players haven't as well. I was proud of both the
attitude of the players and the way they played. Nigeria are
a class side and they deserved to win but 3-0 was a little flattering. We
passed the ball well and had it not been for two silly mistakes
for the last two goals, we might have gone on to get something
from the game.It was a really worthwhile experience though and
I'm sure it will stand us in good stead for the new season."

Ablett
is New Under 17's Coach
Gary
Ablett saw his Everton Under 17's side start with a draw against
Wigan.
Gary says: "It was a good start. Perhaps
I expected a little bit too much from the lads on their first
game back, but I was disappointed that we didn't win it. The
lads did well against an older and stronger Wigan side. Perhaps
we tried to be a bit too direct, rather than pass the ball -
but that's something we'll work on over the coming weeks."

Harper
Takes Over @ The Top
Alan
Harper has taken over from Colin
Harvey, as coach of Everton's Under 19's. Alan has been
coach to the Under 17's for the last few years. He started with
a win. Goals from Robert Booth & Scott
Brown gave Everton a 2-0 over Chester City. Moyesy was at hand
to witness a good performance by Italian trialist Patrice Pascucci.
Alan says: "It was an excellent start.
Considering it was their first game back, I was delighted. The
lads were in excellent shape and were full value for their win.
There's a lot of things we can work on, but it's a case of so
far, so good." (12/07/03)
