Alex Young Testimonial Dinner

Time: 8.00pm. 12th August 2001. Place: The Adelphi Hotel. One hundred lucky guests quietly await the guest of honour. Cue 'Z-Cars'. In walks The Golden Vision. One Hundred pay homage. The applause takes a good 5 minutes to die down. Alex Young is in the same room as us. We can't believe it. Tears are flowing. It is pure emotion. I look around our table, & I swear all 10 have tears in their eyes.

The next four hours, we are entertained by guest speakers, comedians, & toastmasters, but all everyone wants is a photo, an autograph, or a moment to talk to Alex. Later on, he accommodates everyone. The 'Hall of Fame' is a fantastic, rebel rouser of a night, but this is unique. I'll say it again, there has never been 100 luckier Evertonians.

Alex, accompanied by his wife Nancy, accepts a solid golden watch. What else! His speech is friendly, and warm in his gentle Scottish accent. He thanks everybody, including his old team mates, with a kind word for them all. It was a truly memorable night. Thanks Alex. Thanks for the memories.
