ALEX SAYS THANK YOU

It was Z-Cars that done it for me

Alex says: "It was an unbelievable welcome and something I'll never forget," he said afterwards. "It was sensational and there's very, very few places like Merseyside for a reception like that."

"It's passed down on Merseyside from generation to generation," he said, "Maybe they just think I'm an okay lad with a working class background and they respect me for the way I played.

"It was a terrific response tonight."

"To say that they think I'm one of the Everton greats is a sensational comment," he claimed. "There's been some fantastic players at Everton, before me and after me, so that is praise indeed."

"When I played I always felt the goose pimples on the back of my neck when I heard Z-Cars and I felt it again tonight," he said. "Goodison tonight just looked so beautiful and perfect to play on."
