We have had over 40 'Teams' sent in over this week, please be patient we will get around to yours soon.

30. What a question to answer? But here's my team:

Southall

Stevens Lyons Ratcliffe Van Den Hauwe

Kanchelskis Bracewell Reid Sheedy

Latchford Lineker

Subs- Mountfield, Yobo, D. Watson, Gravesen, Heath, Gray.

The team is obviously made up mostly of the great eighties team, but I had to include my hero Bob.As much of of gobshite that Lineker is now he has to go in for his prowess in the two yard box!I'll probably put a different team in the next time as it's always hard to choose! J. (05/11/04)

29. Tried to produce a team of old and new, but the new players just aren't as good. I have been going the game since i was six, so therefore i cannot claim to have seen such great players in action, like neville southall, alan ball, kevin ratcliffe and not even dixie dean. I have seen tapes of these players though so i will place them in my XI.

My team:

Southall

stevens,ratcliffe,labone,m.ball
Steven, ball, reid, sheedy
lineker, sharpe

Subs: dean, rooney, gray, van den hauwe, latchford

L. Brookfield. (05/11/04)

28.

Nev Southall

Alex Parker. Brian Labone. Kevin Ratcliffe. Ray Wilson.

Colin Harvey. Alan Ball. Bobby Collins. Howard Kendal.

Alex Young. Roy Vernon.

Subs: Bob Latchford. Tony Kay. Trevor Steven. Gary Stevens.

This is the best of the Toffees I have seen, but I have to mention Dixie Dean and T.G. Jones, or my Dad will be turning in his grave, and he reckoned they'd get in any team. Bobby Collins was my boyhood hero and he started the Everton revival of the early sixties, let's hope Tommy Gravesen stays and sparks a similar revival. Norman Patterson. (05/11/04)

27. These are players I have seen live:

Southall

Stevens Ratcliffe Labone Wilson

Ball Reid Harvey Sheedy

Rooney Young

Subs: West, Watson, Kendall, Lineker, Sharp

How can anyone leave Rooney out ? He is already one of the world’s greatest players in my view. He was moulded, made and finished at Everton and will always be a Scouser. One day I predict that he will play for us again after he’s been to Real Madrid. I’m sorry I can’t find a place for big Joe in this squad or indeed Bob Latchford. Cheers, Steve McAdam. (05/11/04)

26.

Southall

Stevens Ratcliffe Mountfield Van Den Hauwe

Steven Reid Bracewell Sheedy

Lineker Gray

Can't change too much of a winning formula, but I think the pace of Lineker would have given us an extra edge in this side. Little Ralphy. (05/11/04)

25. I've been supporting Everton since my old man got some words out of me! I guess i've been fully aware of everton teams and players since 84', and i have to keep my favourite players in there, my best XI is...

Southall

Stevens Watson (D) Ratcliffe Van Den Hauwe

Steven Gravesen Reid Kanchelskis

Lineker Cottee

subs - Myhre, Yobo, Sheedy, Stuart, Sharpe
Manager - Howard Kendall (Moyes as coach)

gutted there's no room for Hutch, Bracewell, Beardsley, Materazzi, Dacourt or Limpar. Ian the southern Blue. (02/11/04)

24.

O'Neill

Donovan, Tansey

Rae, TG Jones, Meagan

McNamara, JW Parker, Fielding, Eglington, Dave Hickson

Subs Farrell .J Harris and T Ring

A tanner to get in the boys pen. Ed McDonald (02/11/04)

23. I'm only 23 so my best EFC eleven consists of the players mainly from the 90's and 00's

1. Neville Southall

2. Matthew Jackson 5. Dave Watson(c) 6.David Unsworth 3. Andy Hinchcliffe

17. Andrei Kanchelskis 18. Joe Parkinson 10. Barry Horne 11. Anders Limpar

24. Duncan Ferguson 9. Tony Cottee

Subs: 31. Thomas Myhre, 7. Graham Stuart, 8.Peter Beardsley, 15.Paul Rideout.

Not the best I know but it hasn't been the best of times. ONWARD EVERTONIANS.
GRAEME GOODWILL. (02/11/04)

22. The best ever that I can think of are as follows

Southall

Parker, Labone, Ratcliffe, Wilson

Ball, Kendal, Kay, Harvey

Young Vernon

Subs Gray,Martyn, Bobby Collins, Gabriel and Morrisey.

What a team that would be I have been lucky to see them all play. Tony Kay was a cracker and never saw Roy Vernon miss a penalty. George Tiesteel. (02/11/04)

21.

Southall

Henry Newton, Ratcliffe, Labone, Wilson

Trevor steven, Harvey, Sheedy

Sandy Young, Bob Latchford, Dave thomas

Bench: Vernon, West, Ball, Mckenzie, Harper

Toff123again. (28/10/04)

20. My best Blue Boy team is:

Southall

Stevens Labone The Rat Wilson

Tricky Ball Reid Sheedy

Lineker Latchford

subs: West, Young, Harvey, Watson and Sharp.

In my opinion, this team would smack anyone's arse, and send them home. Courtesy of the Hunk. (28/10/04)

19.

Southall

Yobo, Dave Watson, Weir, Unsworth

Kanchelskis, Gravesen, Dacourt, Limpar

Ferguson Amokachi

Because I can't remember that far back this is just from the premiership. I know Unsworth isn't the greatest player but he has to be in for his passion. And Dacourt might be a money grabber but a top player. Ste. (28/10/04)

18. Sagar pips Southall because of his presence and power. TG Jones because he was the archetypal libero, forerunner of Beckenbauer and Baresi, and Stanley Matthews says he was the greatest player he ever saw. Hurst was so far ahead of his time, that when they send a manned flight to aplha Centauri the spaceship will be named after him. Wright is immaculate and Cresswell's intelligence and speed demands his inclusion. It is simply impossible, and sinful, to separate the three graces. The back four is a thing of pleasure, the midfield can only be talked about in hushed tones, and the forward line...aaah... the forward line. I can't think of any other player in the world I'd want. Maybe, just maybe, Pele might, could, possibly replace Vernon, but blue blood is a fundamental criteria so sorry fella. This is a team that represents all that is great about Everton; poetic, scientific, beatific and so frightening opponents would have their eyes closed. Unbeatable because nobody could ever get the ball from this lot, and the ball wouldn't go near anyone else once its been caressed around by these hero's. A thing of beauty that would have Mozart, Shakespeare, Einstein and Michelangelo buying season tickets.

Sagar

Tommy Wright, TG Jones, John Hurst, Warney Cresswell

Saint Kendall, Saint Ball, Saint Harvey

Roy Vernon, Alex Young, Sir Dixie Dean

Denis Byrne, 5th Generation Blue. (26/10/04)

17. In my 28 years watching the blues my best eleven is:

1.NEVILLE SOUTHALL.

2.GARY STEVENS. 4.KEVIN RATCLIFFE. 5.DAVE WATSON. 3.PAT VAN DEN HAUWE.

7.TREVOR STEVEN(the best player i have ever seen anywhere. makes beckham look shite.). 6.PETER REID. 10.PAUL BRACEWELL. 11.KEVIN SHEEDY.

8.BOB LATCFORD.9.GRAEME SHARP.

SUBS: DUNCAN McKENZIE. MARTIN DOBSON. ADRIAN HEATH. DEREK MOUNTFIELD AND NIGEL MARTIN.

I think this team would piss all over Arsenal. home and away. Brian Lea.St Helens.(26/10/04)

16. My first eleven would be ............

Southall

Gary Stevens, Derek Mountfield, Kevin ratcliffe, Ray Wilson

Trevor Steven, Peter Reid, Alan Ball, Dave Thomas

Dixie Dean, Andy Gray

subs: Sharp, Latchford, Young, Labone, Martyn.

no argument! these lot would put the shits up anyone. they would kick fuck out of you all game then you would look at the bench and think of retiring! all these players where sheer class as well as battlers. who needs wayne rooney! david moyes as manager!!!! Ronnie. (26/10/04)

15. Early Fifties I started watching the Blues with my elder brother. As you've got to have a laugh at the match I'd choose Albert Dunlop as my goalkeeper he used to bring tears to ones eyes. So, here's the team

Dunlop,

Parker , Labone, Gabriel, Wilson,

Kay, Collins, Harvey, Ring,

Young, Vernon.

Subs: West, Kendall, Latchford, Gravesen and Stevens.

I met Dixie in The Dublin Packet at Chester and he was dressed in a Blue shirt, does that count? so take note Rooney, here was a legend and the truest of all Blues. H. Greenewithane. (23/10/04)

14. Just thought i would give you my suggestion for Everton's Best XI cause i was disgusted to see that nobody has put the great man dean in yet. Also, been a devoted Irish toffee i thought i would give it a bit of an irish feel as well as you can see. Unfortunately Phealan is on the subs bench put he is there to carry out the balls if you want to know. He has his uses does our Terry ;-D. I couldn't leave out Farrelly either especially after THAT goal!!!

Jimmy O'Neill

Brian Labone, Tommy Clinton, Richard Dunne, Derek Mountfield

Kevin Kilbane, Lee Carsley, Tommy Eglington, Kevin Sheedy

Dixie Dean, G.Sharp

Subs: Southall, Gareth Farrelly, Terry Phelan, Andy Gray, David Hickson, Alex Young.

Well I hope you like the selection and keep up the good work. All the Best. Blues Brother1 (Dec) (23/10/04)

13. My best eleven is the team that got us 3 points against Southampton last Saturday. Thanks boys, I really appreciate how you are playing for the blues. Here is my second best eleven.

Andy Rankin,

Tommy Wright, Mick Lyons, John Hurst, Sandy Brown

Dennis Stevens, Tony Kay (Captain), Peter Reid

Johnny Morrisey, Fred Pickering, Alan Whittle

Tony Kay was a great player - I wish we could have seen more of him.

Come on the blues! Laurie from OZ
. (23/10/04)

12. I am thirty five and I went to my first game at the age of five when Bingham was in charge. My greatest moments would be the same as most fans of my age the glorious 84 - 87 team, and maybe the 95 cup winning side solely for surviving a certain relegation and hammering all the top sides to win the thing, if only Royle had of had more money to spend to supplement Kanchelskis I still think we were not far off that following season. My team would have to be:

Southall (the best goalkeeper I have ever seen. I was too young to see Banks but my dad informs me that Southall at his peak was better. Shilton, Clemence, Jennings, Seaman and Schmeical ( I am sure I have spelt that wrong!) not a patch on him.

Stevens, Ratcliffe, Mountfield ( sorry Dave Watson! ) Hinchcliffe (solely passing ability and set pieces)

Sheedy, Reid, Bracewell, Kanchelskis( let down by greed and players not in his class)

Sharp and Heath.

Substitutes:Lineker, Stuart, Beardsley, Steven and Watson.

I couldn't possibly put a goalie on the bench, if I had too I would go for Martyn in place of Beardsley. Gareth Fieldstead. (23/10/04)

11. My era started mid 80s so 7/8 players pick themselves, Nev, the rat, Trev and gary and sheeds & Sharpey Reidy and (a fit)brace get the nod in the middle, Lineker and sharpe guarantee, pace, power and goals if it wasn't going well there's always Kanchelskis or Pie arse on the bench.

Southall

Stevens Watson Ratcliffe Hinchcliffe

Steven Reid Bracewell Sheedy

Lineker Sharpe

Subs; Wright, Stubbs, Yobo, Kanchelskis, Rooney

Lloydey. (23/10/04)

10. Selecting a team from my debut v Wolves in January 1969 onwards:

Southall

Wright T..............Labone.......Todd...............Pejic

Steve................Reid...........Ball.................Thomas

......................Rooney.........Sharp

Subs: West, Ratcliffe, Kendall, Lineker, Latchford

Ged Fox (23/10/04)

9.

Southall

Stevens .... Yobo .... Ratcliffe .... Van Den Hauwe

Alan Ball. Tommy Grav . Colin Harvey. Sheedy

Lineker ... Young

Liam Lackey. (23/10/04)

8. My first game was against Arsenal in November 1966 - shortly after the World Cup and the arrival of my hero Alan Ball. So this is influenced by the team from that era. Never saw Dean but he has to be there!

Southall

Wright, Labone, Ratcliffe, Wilson.

Ball, Kendall, Harvey, Sheedy.

Latchford, Dean.

Subs. West, Steven, Reid, Royle, McKenzie.

Steve Cornforth
. (20/10/04)

7. Having a history and tradition which is second to none, only Arsenal have claim to rival
'The School of Science'.
Trying to pick a 'Best Ever' Everton Eleven is just impossible.
As there have been so many 'GREAT' Everton players in the past.
From the likes of Fred Geary to present day Wayne Rooney.
In my own opinion, any 'Best' Everton team has to have four of it's finest players from the
off.....and they are William Ralph Dean..T.G.Jones..Alan Ball.....and Neville Southall.

So in my humble opinion my team is :

SOUTHALL

TOMMY WRIGHT, BRIAN LABONE, T.G JONES, RAMON WILSON,

A. KANCHELSKIS, ALAN BALL, TONY KAY, KEVIN SHEEDY,

WILLIAM R DEAN, GARY LINEKER.

SUBS: VAN DEN HAUWE, HOWARD KENDALL , PETER REID, ALEX YOUNG,
GORDON WEST, BOBBY COLLINS, BOB LATCHFORD, GRAEME SHARP,
ROYSTON VERNON, TOMMY LAWTON, KEVIN RATCLIFFE.

thesoweroftheseed. (20/10/04)

6. As I have started supporting Everton from about 1995,I would not be able to pick anyone before that time so my team is:

Martyn
Hibbert Yobo Weir M.Ball

Kanchelskis Hutchison Gravesen Kilbane

Campbell Ferguson

Bench: Myhre, Unsworth, Speed, Parkinson, Rooney.

Martyn has been outstanding and haven't seen enough of Southall,I think Hibbert has to be because we haven't had many regular playing right backs and Watson only had a couple of seasons there.Yobo has been absolutely stunning for us and has been our best players for years.Weir was really strong and consistent a few years ago and still is playing well. Michael Ball was really good for us even though Unsy was a great servant to the club. Kanchelskis was really good and scored many goals and had great pace. Hutchison was very consistent and scored a few goals and was at the heart of the team. Gravesen was really good when he joined us but had a poor season of because he is hot or cold but is more consistent and can be world class on his day. Kilbane was another great buy for Moyes as he could take on players and gave his all. Campbell was awesome when he joined us on loan and had a few good seasons but has gone downhill with age. Ferguson was just great when not injured and was very under-rated but had talent. Myhre was really good but had an injury which he never got his form back. Speed was consistent but I hate him. Parkinson was a dogs of war player who was awesome in the tackle and unfortunately got injured. Rooney was a great player in a poor side but struggled because of this but not good enough to start because 'once a blue always a blue' shrek went for greed and doesn't believe in loyalty.
Evelyn Davies. (20/10/04).

5.

Southall
Stevens, Labone, Ratcliffe, Wilson
Ball, Kendall, Harvey, Sheedy
Young, Latchford

subs: t. Steven, d. Thomas, Bracewell, Gray, West

Blueboyles. (18/10/04)

4. My Everton team would be players mainly from the 1990s onwards. When I was growing up the names Bracewell, Sharp, Reid, Ratcliffe, Steven and Sheedy were very famous in my household, but in all honestly I am to young to really remember them playing for the blues, so I feel it only fair to include players that I clearly remember playing for Everton.

My team is as follows:-

Neville Southall

Joseph Yobo David Weir Dave Watson (Capt.) Michael Ball

Andrei Kanchelskis Thomas Gravesen Gary Speed Andy Hinchcliffe

Tony Cottee Duncan Ferguson

Subs: Richard Gough, Nigel Martyn, Graham Stuart, Don Hutchison, Barry Horne

Although Joey Yobo isn't a natural right back, I think he is composed enough and skillful enough to adapt to the right back role, it is the the one role which we have lacked real quality for years, probably since Gary Stevens played for us. Andy Hinch wasn't by any means the best left winger we've had, he's not in the same sort of class as Anders Limpar or Zinedine Kilbane, but for his crossing alone, the left back come midfielder deserves his place. Cottee and a pre-Newcastle Duncan Ferguson would work great together and although neither is really defensive minded, I reckon that Speed and Gravesen would perfectly complement each other in the centre of midfield, combining both attacking with ball winning duties. I had considered putting Wayne Rooney on the bench, but I really don't think he deserves it, after all he was better for England than he was for us! Anyway's if Peter Beardsley didn't make it, Rooney had no chance!

Kris Hutchinson. (18/10/04)

3. I've only been watching everton for the last 16 years but i believe I've seen a fair few good players and this team could be a decent side if we got a few of them out of retirement...if only

Southall

Stevens,Materazzi,Yobo, Van Den Hauwe

Kanchelskis,Gravesen, Dacourt,Sheedy

Latchford, Lineker

Subs - Ferguson, Hinchliffe, Watson (dave), Limpar, Myhre

Dunnimonster. (18/10/04)

2. Any all time eleven, regardless of for who, is always dependant on the age of the person making their all time eleven list.

As I am 34 my all time EFC XI would be:

Southall,
Stevens, Ratcliffe, Watson, Van Den Hauwe,
Steven, Reid, Bracewell, Sheedy,
Sharp,Latchford.

subs: Wood, Mountfield, Gray, D Thomas, McCall

It would be interesting to see how many would place the likes of Barmby, Speed, Jeffers and Rooney in their side, personally I would not consider any one of them as an all time eleven should not only consider skill and finesse but also loyalty and hard work all in the name of the club and its fans.

regards, Colin (Exiled in Holland) (18/10/04)

1. As I've completed my fifty years of Everton support, first watching the Blues in 1954/55, though my first ever football match was Liverpool v Blackpool where I was taken to watch Stanley Matthews. Unfortunately my dad was a Liverpudlian and later, my uncle, Norman Low, became part of Shankley's entourage at our old ground. Sobering an Evertonian was for me a psychic force alien to family and too strong for me to resist, to tidy up my first sentence I've decided to see if I can start a correspondence by naming my Everton team over the last fifty years. It's very personal and although some of my favourite players are very idiosyncratic i.e. Derek Temple, Paul Bracewell, Frank Wignall, Wally Fielding, Bob Latchford, Dave Hickson, Jimmy Gabriel, Gary Jones and more recently a certain Master Rooney, I have picked players who were great icons and great entertainers.
To me, perhaps sentimentally , the greatest team was the 1962-3 championship team, though I worshipped the Holy Trinity of 1969-70 and Kendall's wonderful team in the 80's.

My team:

Southall

Parker, Labone, Ratcliffe, Wilson,
Steven, Collins(Bobby), Harvey, Sheedy,
Young, Vernon

Subs: West, Watson (Dave), Kay, McKenzie, Rooney.

I regard Colin Harvey for his skill , Alex Young for his magic and Bobby Collins for his ability to transform a poor team into a very good team as the three greatest Everton players of the last fifty years. I regarded Lineker, Ball and Ferguson as the most over-rated.
I hope this letter sparks some interest and some rival teams. Rick Tarleton. (16/10/04)
