After a woeful display last week up in St.Helens, Kipper had the task of redeeming themselves against the Old Enemy on Stanley Park. With the side picked the night before with a slight reshuffle, the lads got themselves down at 12:30 to ensure they got a proper warm up, something that has been missing in recent weeks. Manager PED made sure the side was prepared and RAWK never showed until 10 minutes before kick off and even then they only had 9 men. Luckily they managed to get 2 players from another Liverpool side that was on the next pitch.

RAWK started with 10 men and were resolute in the first 15 minutes. Kipper soon broke the deadlock when good football saw Matty released on the right, driving into the box and delivering a low cross that the right back could only turn into his own net.
RAWK finally found an 11th man and began to show a little bit of shape with the central midfielder showing some good touches and releasing them down the right a couple of times. Kipper began to stroke the ball around well and doubled the lead close to the half an hour mark, this time Biro, who struggled because of a knock he took in the first minute, ran clear down the left and shaped to cross to the back post, only for him to catch the keeper in no mans land as the ball fortuously nestled into the back corner of the net.

RAWK failed to test the keeper and it was Kipper who were to extend the lead. Chances had been coming thick and fast but a combination of desperate defending and every Kipper guilty of trying to be the hero with over-ambitious efforts could only force a succession of corners. Kipper’s pressure was soon to extend the lead with 3 goals in quick succession. First Mike picked up the ball and drove at the defence before feeding in Dave Munro, after forcing the keeper into an earlier save Munro made no mistake by taking one touch and slotting the ball low into the corner. Munro again was to make it 4-0 with the easiest goal he will ever score. Once again, from a Kipper corner by Mike, Bilo headed firmly rising above his marker after the keeper had flapped and Munro turned the already goal bound effort into the empty net. With two assists already to his name and unlucky not to score himself from a volley that was just wide, Mike turned provider again. From another corner, Mitch rose highest and planted a superb header in off the post to make it 5-0. Already having 3 assists to his name, another good corner by Mike saw Mitch meet it perfect only to see this effort cannon back off the crossbar. The referee brought the first half to a close shortly after.

After half time instructions from Gaffer PED, Kipper started the second half in equally superb circumstance. Keeping the ball very well and getting it wide, fashioned chance after chance. Adam had the best of them, after Bilo never gave up the cause and managed to keep the ball in play before rolling it back only for Adam to smash it over the ball from little more than 6 yards. A grilling of ‘stop trying to be the hero’ from the Gaffer didn’t stop him having an effort from 30 yards, which sailed well over. Matty, who dominated the right hand side with PED, saw his own long-range effort hit the bar and go over. Another goal was coming and it was Munro who was fed in by the marauding PED to pull the ball back unselfishly to Mitch to grab his second of the game. He had led the line superb and a brace was the least he had deserved. The tireless skipper Ged was the next to score. First Munro found wide by Matty crossed only for the ball to be half cleared. Dave Moyeston returned the ball into the area and missed everyone except Munro who was still wide on the right; sloppy defending meant Munro drove the ball low and hard to find Ged free for a tap in. Plenty more corners and changes followed. Crofty replaced the injured Bilo, Shieldsy replaced Mitch and these two remained the front two as Munro went to left midfield. Doran replaced Matty and Welshy replaced Mike in central midfield. The new look front two were unlucky not to score as Shieldsy had a couple of chances only for the ball to be just out of his reach, Crofty had a shot just wide as the fresh legs made impact, a good touch by Crofty saw him cut down by the RAWK defence. From the resulting free-kick assist king Mike could not profit and the tame effort was straight into the keeper’s hands.

Kipper began to tire and it was RAWK who looked the more threatening in the last 15 minutes, they rang the changes and it seem to inspire them into life, something that had been missing for the 75 minutes prior. Tired legs on the Kipper part saw them force a couple of corners but solid defending from the back four kept a well earned clean sheet. Kipper keeper Hopkins made his first real save in the 89th minute, diving low to his right to force out the shot. It was to remain 7-0 and the lessons from last week appear to have been learned. Great performances all round and a valuable win against the Arch Rivals gets Kipper back on track, let’s hope that they can reproduce this sort of form regularly. (28/02/07)
