EXCLUSIVE Pictures of The Book Launch Today saw the official launch of " Gwladys Street's BLUE BOOK". Blue Kipper were on hand to record the day. To help with the launch, the authors had borrowed W.H.Smith in the city centre. Great Evertonians were at hand to sign the books. Brian Labone, Alan Stubbs, & Alex Young did all the hard work, while the authors welcomed the crowds. And what a crowd there was. They queued in the rain down Church Street, & snaked around the corner into Paradise Street.
The

is a must for all Evertonians. An ideal Christmas present for your Mum,
Dad, sister, or brother. The press release says: "The People's Club has enjoyed an unrivalled tenure of 100 seasons in the top flight, the story of Everton is the story of the characters of yesteryear - both the superstars and the forgotten heroes - who shaped the club. This commemorative book was designed to salute these men before memories of their deeds fade forever. To assess their contributions, the authors tapped into the encyclopaedic knowledge of Gordon Watson - that great old man of Everton who spent nearly 70 years in a variety of jobs including player and coach." The book has chapters on 'The Birth of The Blues', 'Home of The Blues' which looks at the players from Walter Smith's days plus all the additions under David Moyes. The bulk of the book is 'Gwladys Street's Family' which has pen pics of past players by Gordon Watson. They are complimented by hundreds of caricatures of players past & present, expertly done by Peter King (PAK). The final chapter is cheekily called 'Gone but not forgotten'. Here we find a rogue's gallery of people, who never really made it at Everton. Get down to your book shop & buy it. (11/11/02) |
