Everton 1 v 3 redshite Sat. 15th Sep 2001 Report from last season's game Att: 39,554 Everton : Gerrard, Watson, Weir, Stubbs, Unsworth, Naysmith, Alexandersson, Xavier, Graveson, Ferguson, Campbell, Subs: Tal, Gascoigne(Unsworth 46min), Hibbert (Alexandersson 76min), Radzinski (Xavier 46min), Simonsen. Scorer: Campbell I don't want to do this, I'm not in a good mood. The match was preceded by a minutes silence for the victims of the terrorist attacks in the U.S.A. Everton skipper Kevin Campbell laid a wreath at the foot of the Stars & Stripes Flag, which was placed on the pitch. It all started so well. After 5 minutes we were 1 up. Duncan won a header and knocked it down to Super Kev who turned in a flash and smashed it into the net. Lard and me went fucking nuts. The rest of the half was a nightmare. The shite leveled after 10 minutes when the No.17 hit a hard shot past Gerrard. The nightmare continued when after 30 minutes Rhino decided to poleaxed the shite No.8 in the box and the No.10 scored from the spot. Everton just couldn't get going. The half time whistle couldn't come quick enough Half - Time 1-2 Changes had to be made and they were. Gazza and Rad were brought on for the very poor Abel and Unsy. 7 minutes into the half the shite made it 3-1 when the No.18 raced clear after a poor ball from Davy Weir. The shot seemed to go through Gerrard's legs. Everton had the chances to make a comeback but didn't take any of them . Campbell could have had a second half Hat trick. He had a header cleared off the line. He then should have scored on the hour when he was clear through but shot straight at their goalie and then had a volley well saved by the Pole. Tony Hibbert ,who came on for the tiring Alexandersson, shaved the post with a header in the last five minutes. It wasn't our day. It is very difficult to pick a Star Man but I'm going for Gazza. He was only on the pitch for 45 minutes but he was always trying to create something. He even had the cheek to dribble past two players on his own goal line. At least he gave us something to smile about. |

Mickey Blue Eyes wasn't at Goodison Park on Saturday. The first time for many years, but his mind was elsewhere. He has family in New York. Thankfully all are safe. He will be at Blackburn on Saturday. Gazza says: "It was a great save by the goalkeeper. Kev's a perfectionist who wants to win every game and he's a bit down about the two chances that he feels he should have scored but I told him that the keeper had made great saves. I'm pleased to be back, especially as people have been writing me off. "But I'm back playing now and enjoying my football. It's just been a matter of training and working hard to get back in the squad. The gaffer gave me an opportunity in the week and it was nice just to be a part of it today. I was pleased to get on for the whole of the second half and pleased that I got through it. I was down because of my injuries and my career is getting shorter and shorter, so I'm trying to enjoy it as much as I can. I worked hard pre-season and then I got another little injury to my thigh but I am really pleased to have been involved today even though I'm not happy about the result." Gazza explained why he dribbled the ball out of his own penalty area whilst under pressure. "I knew Heskey was behind me and chasing me!" Gazza quipped. "I could feel him breathing down my neck, and I saw Paul (Gerrard) coming towards me and I didn't want to get sandwiched so I brought it inside and carried on playing. There's parts of my game that are coming back now and after a few more games I'll be back on song and I'll be pushing the gaffer for a place." Kipper says: "You should be on the dole, Gerrard"Walter says: "We are disappointed we lost the second goal because from our point of view that was a bad one. Then we made changes at half-time and almost straightaway give away an equally bad goal. I didn't feel we reached any great level of play, but strangely enough during that period we created three or four good opportunities, a couple of misses and some good saves. And we really needed one of those to go in to maybe bring a little bit of nervousness to there play. Obviously we would have liked to hold onto the lead. That allowed them to relax a little bit and leading up to the break they played better and then neither side really imposed themselves." |
