Team: Wright, Hibbert, Weir, Stubbs, Naysmith, Alexandersson, Li Tie, Gravesen, Pembridge, Radzinski, Campbell. Subs: Simonsen, Linderoth (Li Tie 75), Rooney (Alexandersson 75), Unsworth, Rodrigo. What a journey. It seems to get longer and longer. What prick decided to close some of the motorway on a match day. Why is it you never see anyone working? Got to our spec 10 minutes before the game and the boys were in good voice. Then the minutes silence. Not a peek. Well done to everyone. David Moyes decided to change the starting line up with Saint Nic coming in for the Duke and reverting to 4-4-2. We were under the cosh in the first 10 minutes. Wrighty pulling off two top saves. He is one brave man. During that time ex-toffee McCann should have scored but smashed it wide.Thank God. We started to get a grip of the game after that. Pembo, Li Tie and Mad Dog all working well together getting things going. Super and The Rad also putting tremendous effort in upfront. It was Super who gave us the lead and what a well worked goal it was. It was Mad Dog with a cross from the left that found the Rad free on the far post to head back across goal for Super to bundle over the line. It was a promising first half display the only disappointment we were only one goal to the good. Half Time 0-1 After the restart we were under the cosh again, but during this time we were playing some decent stuff and keeping the ball well. There was a strong appeal for a pen Nace looked to have fouled the big Scot Kyle in the box but the ref said no. The next Sunderland effort went in the net, but for some unknown reason the ref disallowed it. Reyna took a free kick from the left, he curled it in. Wrighty seemed to have it in his hands but just fumbled it over the line. We were certainly riding our luck during these moments. On 70 minutes from a corner Sunderland won a pen when Wrighty pushed sub Niall Quinn in the back. Shit that's all we needed. Up stepped Phillips to hit hard to our Goalies right. Wrighty somehow pulled off a miraculous one handed save. The ball looped up in the air and Wrighty while still still on the floor somehow grabbed it from going over the line. I knew then we were going to win the game. Quinn had a header hit the post a couple of minutes later. But that was it from Sunderland. With 15 minutes to go Moyesey brought on Wayne and Toby for Alex and Li Tie. We gave The Duke a big cheer every time he touched the ball. It is difficult to pick a Star Man after this very good team effort. Li Tie , Pembo and Mad Dog all had impressive games in the middle of the park and Super and The Rad worked their socks off up front. Wrighty is looking the biz and what a save. But the Blue Kipper Star Man goes to Alan Stubbs, who just edged Davie Weir, for a brilliant display at the heart of Everton's defense. Moysey says: "We came to try to win the game and that's what we've done. We've come away from home and tried to make a game of it and I think sometimes, you get fortunate when you do that. "A
couple of times, we had to be fortunate, but overall, I thought we
played well and crafted out some really good openings and maybe just
didn't hit the final pass to maybe get a second goal." Wrighty says: “Fortunately, I guessed right and got a good top hand to it and if it had gone in after that I would have been very disappointed, but it dropped right back into my arms. I’ve got mixed emotions because there was a mistake by me within the game, but you’ve got to take the positives rather than the negatives and the pleasing thing today was that I showed what I can do. Chris says: "What's the tune for the Li Tie song taken from? Jogger says: "The Beatles, Hey Jude" All Together Now" "Naa, Naa, Naa, Na, Na, Na, Naa... Na, Na, Na Naa, Li Tie..." Team News With the all our international stars back in one piece, it seems that there will be little change to the line-up against Sunderland. Joey Yobo has admitted that he probably isn't ready and Moysey agrees with him. Joey said: “For the moment I don’t think I am ready for the Sunderland game. We will have to see how it goes in training again tomorrow.I trained today and it felt better, so in a couple of days I am hopeful it will be fine. It is healing slowly and I hope that by next week I will be fit again and ready to play. I am obviously looking forward to eventually starting and if it doesn’t happen for Sunderland then I will be ready for the next home game." Moysey said: “Joe got another game under his belt on Tuesday, but we want to give him a little longer to settle and integrate at the club. I only want one hundred per cent fit players in the starting line-up and while Joe’s fitness has improved significantly, he is not quite there yet.” I reckon that David Moyse will start with the same 11 that started last week Jogger's eleven to start: Wright, Hibbert, Weir, Stubbs, Naysmith, Li Tie, Gravesen, Pembridge, Radzinski, Campbell, Rooney. |
