Moyesy said he would drop the players who had played so badly at Dundee Utd. So from that do we deduce that Niclas Alexandersson, who Moyesy had given a pat on the back only days earlier & Duncan Ferguson were the players he was really unhappy with, as they were left out of the squad altogether. Well not Big Dunc, as Everton revealed that he was left out to give the other strikers as much practice together with him being suspended for the first few games. Scott Gemmill, & Tony Hibbert were relegated to the bench. On a glorious Summers day, Everton started brightly, with The Rad pushing a shot wide of the keeper & the post when he should have scored. Minutes later after great work from Watson & Campbell The Rad had a shot charged down, & Li Tie thumped the rebound goalbound only to see it saved by Jonathan Gould. With an estimated 5,000 Evertonians cheering their side on, it looked like it was only a matter of time before Everton scored. How wrong we were. The game just went down hill from then on. The passing began to go wayward. When a pass was put up for Campbell he lost the ball. Other passes to The Rad were in the air. The 7 foot defender said ' keep them coming.' Unsey & Nace duly obliged. Li Tie & Gravesen had their 'Butch Wilkins' boots on. Nothing was being produced. Preston had a few scrambles at the other end, & only one real chance when Fuller headed over. There were the odd moments of goalmouth incidents, but they were odd. Super Kev had a shot well saved , & Steve Watson headed a cross down to the corner of the net, only for Gould to push it around the post for a corner. Just on half time The Rad to lift it over Gould. He did, but also cleared the bar. Half-Time: Preston 0, Everton 0. The second half was awful. Everton had no idea how to pass the ball. They gave it away most of the time. When they did find an Everton shirt the pass was back or square. They seemed to have no confidence. Even when Everton brought on 3 fresh midfield players, & changed to a diamond formation, nothing changed. Simmo made a great save to thought the Preston attack. But from the corner he came for the ball & missed his punch. The ball was then scrambled home. His confidence went after that & he couldn't even kick the ball to anyone. He was booting it straight out of play, & then hitting it up to The Rad when Super was calling for it. He wasn't the only one. We didn't create one decent chance in the second half. Campbell, Radzinski, & Chadwick when he came on never had a shot. The only player to come out with any credit was Joey Yobo, who was outstanding again. You here 'it's only a friendly'. But t is a worry that we have played Dundee Utd & Preston & not scored a goal. Full-Time: Preston 1, Everton 0. Moyesy says: "My mood is not too good I don't know about the players mood. I don't know how much that hurt them but I was back at my old club and I would have liked to have done well. But credit where credit is due and Preston played well today and deserved their victory. In the first half we played some good football, missed three chances and maybe could have been quite comfortably in front. But after that all credit to Preston, they played very well in the second-half and we never really got out of second gear. I am concerned and we have to do better. We need to win some games in the build-up to the start of the season. The improvement today was not as much as we would have liked. The players did very well last year so we have to be careful with what we say at the moment but we hope they will do better and I am sure that they will once we get underway." Lard says: "This is grim." Exclusive Photos from Deepdale. * Preston have a band. They maybe good musicians, but all game they went on & on. There is no truth in the rumour, that they started playing Laurel & Hardy's signature tune - The Cuckoo song, when Unsey waddled over to get the ball for a throw in. * Mickey Blue Eyes sends his apologies for not doing a report for this game, because he never made it to the game. The rumours that he was pissed as a fart, & was hooking up all Saturday morning are true. Exclusive Photos from Deepdale. Don't make me angry, you won't like me when I'm angry. Well some of the Everton players have made Moyesy angry, so he has dropped them. This is the reaction to a very poor performance against Dundee Utd. Moyesy said: "Some people ruled themselves out on Wednesday. I am looking for much better than we got there. You will start to see me getting a little more ruthless now, saying 'I can't look after you any more.' "I will be picking my team on the performances I get and some ruled themselves out at Dundee. "Saturday will be different for me. I am looking forward to it and I am grateful to Preston for giving me a start in football. "That's something which so many people are desperate for, but not many actually get the chance of. "I know people I speak to at Preston who look for Everton's results every week and I think they are quite pleased when we do well." Lee Carsley will not be involved he has strained medial knee ligaments. Kipper's 11 to Start: Gerrard, Hibbert, Stubbs, Yobo, Pistone, Watson, Gravesen, Linderoth, Unsworth, Campbell, Radzinski. |
