Everton:
Martyn, Hibbert, Yobo, Stubbs, Naysmith, Watson Bench:
Ferguson for Linderoth (70m), Carsley for Watson (46m), McFadden for
Kilbane (79m), Pistone, Turner. There is nothing worse than doing a match report when you get beat, but it is worse when you do it the day suffering from a hang over of major proportions. You know you are in for a bad day when you wake up on the couch at 4 o'clock in the morning with one shoe still on and bits of cheese on toast stuck on yer head. The first half was the worst 45 minutes of Moyesy's reign, we were appalling. We had one chance worthy of a mention and that fell to Wayne who completely missed the ball after a cross from The Rad. That chance came in the 46th minute. Boro went ahead after Blow scored from break away from one of our corners. It was bad defending of the highest order. And I remember they should had another goal when someone had a header that bounced over the line after it hit the bar. Half Time 1-0 The 2nd half saw Harry Hill come on for the below par Steve Watson. There must have been some strong words said at the break because we came out with an improved attitude. Lee Carsley had a great chance to put us level, but if scuffed his shot with the goal at his mercy. We created a fist full a chances but it just wasn't going to happen for us. Wayne had a couple of efforts charged down and The Rad went close a few times. With 20 minutes left Duncan came on, far too late in my opinion. Again caused mayhem for their defense. With a couple of minutes left he had a bullet header headed off the line. It wasn't to be James McFadden came on with 10 minutes to go for for Killa, who had a mare. Faddy in the short time he was on showed us that he has got what it takes to become a real star. Twice he went past defenders cutting in and generally causing their defense big problems. Not one for the future but one for now. It is difficult to pick a Star Man, but I will go for Tony Hibbert. I'm going to bed now.

Moyesy says: “In the second half we had enough chances to win more than one game. We missed a lot of chances against Liverpool, we missed a lot of chances today, so it can’t continue. We’ll have to try and do something about it because what happens is that you put your defenders under more pressure and if they make a mistake, then, obviously, it’s more costly. I told them to try and fight a little bit harder than they had in the first half. I wanted them to react in the way Middlesbrough had done, because it looked as though they were more up for it. But if we perform as well as we did in the second half in our next few games then we’ve got nothing to worry about.” Jogger says: "We've got to start with Dunc!" Team News Last Season's Game Everton have a glut of strikers, who are hitting good form to choose from. Is this Everton I'm talking about? Yes indeedy! The Rad fresh from his goal against the skunks, Big Dunc back to full fitness & coming on to score a peno last week, Chaddy scoring for fun in the Rezzies, Faddy scoring his 1st goal for Scotland, & having a stormer for the Rezzies in midweek, Franny Jugears getting an early chance last week, plus England's number 9 fit for this week. Moyesy has got a great selection problem. One thing Moyesy has done since he's been here is keep players in the team if they play well. You could say then, that Dunc deserves to stay in, but who partners him? Elsewhere, Nigel Martyn will keep goal, with young Iain Turner on the bench. Everyone else is fit from last week. (19/09/03) Everton from: Martyn, Hibbert, Stubbs, Yobo, Naysmith, Watson, Gravesen, Linderoth, Kilbane, McFadden, Rooney, Radzinski, Ferguson, Weir, Unsworth, Pistone, Jeffers, Clarke, Turner. Lavington Spa's eleven to start: Martyn, Hibbert, Yobo, Stubbs, Pistone, Watson, Linderoth, Gravesen, McFadden, Ferguson, Rooney. |
