The news that Stubbsey and Franney both stayed behind to watch the Nash meant starting places for Unsy and Super Kev.

We were one down in the first five. It was a big punt down the field from their goalie, Shearer beat the falling Joey in the air and that heavyweight of a shithouse forward Bellamy brushed Unsy off the ball to round Nige to put the ball in the open net. Shit what a start.

Everton responded well and were level 6 minutes later. The Rad wide on the left cut inside and placed a perfect ball to Tommy Grav just running into the the box to blast a shot into the Geordies goal. Back of the net.

We had a great chance to go in front. A combination of passes between Grav and Toby ended with the little Swede bursting into the box. He squared it to Kev, his shot beat everyone except the post. It was a move that deserved a goal.

The Barcodes went ahead with a shitty freak of a goal. It was a cross from the right that found the ugly Dyer on the edge of the box. His header was firmly nutted into the ground and some how looped over Nige into the far corner of the net. Jammy shits.

Half Time: Skunks 2 Everton 1

Joey nearly got us level when from a scrambled corner the ball fell to Joey. He hit his shot into the deck bounced over Given but unlike Dyer's goal, our effort bounced on top of the bar to safety.

We were punished a few minutes later, Kevin Campbell won a tackle on the half way line, but the ball flew over everybody at the back into Shearer's path completely clear. He wasn't going to miss, he didn't.

Steve Watson headed into the from a Grav cross only for it to be ruled offside. Later the TV cameras showed it wasn't off. Not our day.

Joey finally got himself on an Everton score sheet for the very first time when he scored at the back post with a header with just eight minutes to go. A comeback didn't really look on and Newcastle a minute from time got another from Shearer on the final whistle.

The result didn't do us any favors and once again our next game on Friday becomes a "must win " game. It may sound silly after letting 4 goals in but I'm giving the Blue Kipper Star Man to Joey Yobo who again was our class act on the day.

Quotes

David Moyes:"It was a goal. We're fortunate enough to have been able to watch it on the laptop and it's a goal. We're certainly due some, we're certainly due a wee bit of good fortune, albeit we'd been on a run of five games unbeaten. I think we're a good enough side to get away from this region, but you have to prove it on the field. That's where it counts."

"We didn't defend well enough. This is the Premier League, you have to stand up and be Premier League players. We were soft and we lost the goals. We didn't deserve to lose, if anything I think we played quite well. I thought we actually probably made more chances than Newcastle did but they are ruthless at both ends and got their goals and defended at the other end whereas we didn't."

Off The Ball

Those lovely North East stewards. Don't you just love them. We saw 3 lads thrown out for standing up & cheering the team.

Team News  Last Season's Game

* The latest team news out of Goodison is that Franny Jeffers, and more disturbingly Alan Stubbs, will have to sit out today's match. Franny who has not featured much this season, and was probably going to start this afternoon, has had to stay on Merseyside and watch the National due to a back problem. The club doctor has put it down to sitting on the bench to much. Stubbsy meanwhile has given Moyesy the biggest headache, as he is still suffering with a groin strain, which forced him out of last weeks action at half time. It now looks like Unsey will start in the middle with Joey, with the full backs remaining the same.

Basil says : "He’s been struggling with it for a couple of months now and could have done with longer periods of rest. He won’t be available for the Newcastle game, but hopefully things will improve and settle down by next week." (03/04/04)

Everton go into tommorows clash against the Skunks, with somewhat of a striker crisis. The Duke after his midweek exertions for England is serving a one game ban, as is The Big Man, after his sending off against Leicester a fortnight ago. Moyesy then has a selection poser, is it going to be Franny, Super Kev, or a late contender in Faddy who partners The Rad up front. Super though is still struggling himself, after failing to make last weeks squad with an injury, so expect Franny to start the match, after a long first team lay off. The only other absentee is Davey Weir, who himself is serving a ban, after his sending off for the rezzies a couple of weeks ago, though this will not hinder team selection to much. With the change of personal up front, I fully expect Moyesy to stay with the same midfield and back four, who performed so miserably for us, in last weeks bore draw against Boro'. (02/04/04)

Moyesy on Selection Problems says : "This time last year we lost Brian McBride, who had to go back to America. We lost Radzinski and we only had Wayne Rooney and Kevin Campbell available to play in the last ten games of the season. It proved to be not enough, so I made a concerted effort this season to make sure that it didn’t happen again and also, if I need to, I can always recall Leon Osman if I am short of bodies. David Weir’s sending-off came about through a diabolical decision by the referee. We’ll have to live with that.

I always look forward to going to St. James’ Park It’s a terrific place to play your football and they’ve got a magnificent stadium up there. They have really passionate supporters and it’s always a test when you play up there. When I first went up there we got a bit of a hiding 6-2 on Good Friday. But since then, we’ve gone up there and tried to do well. It will be a hard game. They’re pushing for everything, so we need to make sure that we’re at our best." (02/04/04)

Moyesy on Faddy : "I think his goal for Scotland shows that he can play up front and it will do his confidence no end of good. He played a lot up front for Motherwell and when we bought him we weren’t quite sure what his best role would be and we’re still looking at that. He can play wide left, he’s played wide right, he can play through the middle, he’s just a terrific football player with good ability which will improve with age and more experience." (02/04/04)
