Well, the FA Cup is over again for another year. The day started with more time to kill before the kick off, which was nice, but the more pints I had the more I was convinced we were going to win. The atmosphere before kick off was electric and we were all hoping for a good start. It was fairly even in the first twenty minutes. The ugly Ronaldo had no joy in that opening period on the left wing so he decided to have a go on the right. Within a few minutes he ghosted past Kilbane and Naysmith as if they weren't there and sent over a cross for the very ugly Fortune to head Utd into the lead. Utd got a grip on the rest of the half until Marcus Bent had a great chance to put us level just before the half time whistle. Mikky Arteta put a fantastic through ball that had Marcus with just Carroll to beat. Unfortunately his shot was straight at Carroll. That needed to go in. Half Time: Everton 0 Man ure 1 Utd were the better team for most of the second half and it was only four great saves by Nigel Martyn that kept the score down. The game was over just before the hour, when a free kick from Scholes took a deflection that Nige couldn't hold and Ronaldo had the easy task of scoring from the rebound. It shows how near to the bones we are when two defenders in Davy Weir and Pisto came on for Faddy and Mikky. We couldn't muster any chances during the 2nd half. The only attack on their goalie came from a numpty in the Gwladys Street who decided to throw a coin, which hit Carroll on the noggin. Trying to look for plus points in the game is difficult. But the form of my Star Man Nige in goal and a classy performance from Mikky Arteta were a bonus. It was also great to see Leon back playing, we have missed him. This is a game we should all forget as soon as possible and now look forward to getting into that forth spot for a place in the Champion League. Full Time: Everton 0 Man ure 2

Moyesy says:"We had one major chance in the first half and Marcus Bent should have scored it. You do not get too many chances against Manchester United, and you should take what you get. We passed the ball well but there were few chances. We played OK, matched United and gave them a game but we didn't have enough up front to really push them. We felt we had a really good chance at home, but it wasn't to be. "We
all understood it was a game of football. The crowd were great for the
team and they showed plenty of respect.Any
player going back to their old club can expect some stick, but I felt
he handled it all very well."

After convincing wins against Plymouth and Sunderland in the previous rounds, Everton now come up against the holders in the teatime clash. Moyesy as we know has one or two headaches with his selections, and will no doubt because of it, revert back to his favoured 4-5-1, in the absence of James Beattie. A bigger loss will be Tiny Tim who sits out his one game ban, but new boy Mikkel Arteta could get a run from the off. Ossie hopefully will be fit, but the Everton camp have kept quiet on the youngsters progress this week. If fit though, expect Ossie to start, as in recent weeks his creativity has been sadly missing. Joey should keep his place in the five man midfield. The back four at least will have a familiar ring to it, with Tony Hibbert returning in place of Nace, after he served his one game ban last weekend. Another struggling with injury is Big Dunc, but if passed fit, only expect to see him on the bench, and used later in the game to give Ferdinand, and Brown a hard time. Moyesy says: "Duncan Ferguson has a sore back which will probably rule him out. We also have the suspensions to deal with, along with a few other injuries. We are not short as far as getting a strong 11 for the game. But we might be short of options on the bench." Its well documented that the last time these two clubs met in the Cup, Everton came out victors in the 1995 Cup Final. No one gave the boys much of a chance that day, so can history repeat itself. United are flying at the moment, and look like the only team who can push Chelski all the way in the title race. The will he play, won't he play saga continues, but my feelings are that yes, Phil Neville will start as Sir Alex looks slightly forward to his sides clash with Milan on Wednesday evening. Oh yes, young Wayne may play as well. He's not done too bad since he left the Blues prematurely to chase his dreams. But then again neither have Everton, so lets just get on with the game, and think of no other shenanigans. United could welcome back Horses Head into the squad after a long injury lay off. Expect to see maybe one or two of their fringe players coming into contention, as is the norm in this competition for our Mancunian counterparts. If Ryan Giggs starts, he will this week be sporting a natty pair of maroon tights. This was not fair on Shittteehh last weekend, as they could not concentrate on their game, for pissing themselves laughing at Ryan's choice of suspenders. (18/02/05) |
