After giving it to the arse last week, the mood was up beat in the juicer before the game. The players must be confident after deservedly winning last saturday. Then we got the confirmation we were all expecting that Biffa was out injured. The feel good factor was knocked a bit. We worked out that Everton were 8 first team players (Yobo, Stubbs, Cahill, Beattie, Carsley, Ferrari, Pistone, and Van der Meyde) down. Some argued it was 10, but after friendly banter we agreed to not include Li Tie and Vaughan.

So on to the game. Sitting in the Upper Bullens we had to go in a turnstile further up the road. Our lucky turnstyle had been taken over by the the crafty cockneys. A shame really, as there was plenty of empty seats in the away end. Nearly as many as the empty corporate seats in the Main stand.

Moyesy had Phil Neville at centre half in place of Mat Ferrari and Big Dunc and Jimmy Mac in for Biffa and Tim. The benches for both teams summed up the strengths of the two teams. Chelsea had Cech, Huth, and Duff - All Internationals while we had Hughes, Boyle and Anichebe - All teenagers without a minute of first team football between them.

On the pitch after Chelsea had started brightly, Everton started taking control. Duncan Ferguson was giving the English centre half a torrid time. Terry was being ruffed up and beaten in the air time and again. He didn't like it but unlike the arse English centre half from last week, he just got on with it. Killa was enjoying himself. Taking on Glen Johnson with plenty of success down the left and it was down the flanks that Everton played well. The only reward Everton got was a couple of free-kicks. From which the quiet Mikel Arteta hit his shots into the jumping wall. Both times he claimed hand ball. Both times Poll said: "No!" The Chelsea players were clever in that they put their arms across their faces as protection, but when Mikel shot they brought their arms above their heads, clearly handling the ball.

When Chelsea got forward, Everton snuffed it out, with Hibbert, Neville, and Weir outstanding. Joe Cole, an obviously gifted player behaved like an arse hole. Three times he went down, as though he was dead. He wasn't. He was acting, erm like an arsehole. Everton kept pressing and got their reward when first Kilbane headed a Valente cross into the arms of Cudicini. Chelsea were warned, but they could do nothing when Big Dunc held the ball up and laid it off into the path of Nuno Valente, who crossed it with pace. The cross was pure Strawberries and cream. You knew it was in. It was met By Jimmy Mac who headed home. The Everton half of the Bullens went bonkers. The Chelsea hard clocks were silent.

Half Time: Everton 1 Chelsea 0

So to half time when the usual 6 Buds and a Chang are usually coiffed with a giggle. This time, the bar was split by a barrier with us on one side and the Kings road casuals on the other, with only the barrier and 4 coppers between us. The usually quiet Upper Bullens was awash with "Where we you when you were shit?" and "Were on the march with Moyesy's army". To say the baldy, old, fat Chelsea pensioners didn't like it was an understatement. The 4 coppers earned their money.

The second half started with shouts of: "How long to go?" Everton tried on the odd occasion to get forward. One time McFadden went for a through ball and met it the same time as Cudichini. The goalie missed the ball and clattered into Jimmy Mac. There was blood everywhere. No penalty though. Just a broken nose. Off went Faddy. Moyesy brought on Gary Naysmith for his first game of the season. You could tell. As the game went on, Chelsea got more and more possession. But Weir and Neville stood firm.

Robben was showing what a good player he is, providing chances for Chelsea. Crespo put one over the bar and Nige made a fantastic save to keep his goal intact. Everton were now camped in our own half and with Dunc up front on his own. Chelsea finally got their goal with 15 minutes to go, when Lampard drove home. Moyesy brought on Victor Anichebe for Davies with minutes to go. He did well and laid the ball back to the big fella, but he shot wide. That was our only chance of the half. It may have been a different story if Moyesy would have brought Vic on instead of Nace.

Everton had many outstanding players in Hibbert, Ferguson, Kilbane, Neville and Weir, but the Blue Kipper Star man goes to Phil Neville who played centre half as though he'd played their all his life. The Chelsea supporters think the tie is all over, but with Cahill, Beattie and Ferrari back for the replay, yer never know.

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: "I am pleased with the performance of the players. They did really well today, they have done everything asked of them. In the opening part of the first half we found it hard to get to Chelsea, but then we got our rhythm and started to play. We got some crosses in the box and eventually we worked a good goal and got in front. We had a chance in the last minute, maybe Duncan could have connected a bit better, and if we had got that, you wouldn’t say we didn’t deserve it. I think we were right in the game. We are just disappointed we couldn’t keep the ball better in the period where Chelsea, put us under pressure in the second half."

Leon says: "It is a reflection of the way things have been going lately that we are disappointed to only draw 1-1 with the champions. That is a good sign for the club. We were low in numbers today but the young lads who came into the squad are all very good players and it is good to have them around. Maybe Chelsea were a little surprised by us. They are a very good team and for the first 20 minutes they were passing the ball around well but we started to get our foot in a bit and that put them off their stride. For the next 20 minutes we were getting in amongst them and putting balls into the box. We were getting some success and scored the goal during that spell. These are the games you really enjoy playing in anyway and if you get a good result you can go home happy."

Everton Team News

Everton will try and carry on their good form of late as they entertain Champions Chelski in the 4th Round of the FA Cup. The Blues who are unbeaten in six matches, will have to do the job with a shoestring squad, due to injuries and suspensions.

Definitely out is Tiny Tim due to his last minute yellow last week's victory over Arsenal, and Stubbsey who is cup tied. Joey Yobo as we know is away in Africa, but on the plus side, Matteo Ferrari still has a fighting chance of making the line up. Me thinks that Moyesy with a Premiership game on Tuesday at Wigan will resist temptation of playing Matteo if he is 50/50. Simple Simon should start due to the lack of numbers and his return to fitness could not have come at a better time for his Boss. Mr. Versatility Phil Neville should slot into the centre of defence, and I believe Moyesy will go 4-4-2 as it is the Cup, and we have nothing to lose. That means Everton's talisman Big Dunc may get a start partnering Biffa, as the Scot will try and work it up Chelski's defence.

Admittedly it is an uphill task to reach the 5th Round, but Everton were the first team to take any points of Chelski this season, and Moyesy and the boys will be hoping for a high tempo game, with the crowd playing their part as they plot to work it up the Southern farts.

Moyesy says: "The squad is not looking very good. We probably have the lowest number of players I have ever had available to me during my time at Everton but I am sure we will get 11 out there.

It is a really tough game but one we will try to get a good result from in order to get through in the cup. We want people to be excited by the games and we want people to think we have got a chance. We know it is tough but at the moment with the way we are playing we have given ourselves a chance of going through.

We don't want to count our chickens but we have had quite a good record against them in terms of the performances we have produced. But we also know they have a group of players that matches the best in the world and it will be a really tough game. Every game is different and every team is different. I don't Chelsea will be anything like Arsenal last week and we know they are determined to win as many trophies as possible." (27/01/06)

Simple say: "They don't come much bigger than Chelsea in the Cup and we have got a home draw so we have got every chance, especially if we play as we did against Arsenal. I am feeling pretty good, so with Tim being suspended it might give me a better chance of starting the game or definitely being involved so I am really looking forward to it. This game has sparked a lot of enthusiasm amongst the lads, especially with the results we have been having, it has really picked up around the place." (27/01/06)

Everton from: Martyn, Wright, Hibbert, Weir, Ferrari, Valente, Neville, Osman, Arteta, Davies, Kilbane, McFadden, Beattie, Ferguson, Hughes, Anichebe.

About The Opposition

No doubt with the size of their squad available, Mourhino will have a little play with his starting eleven. Carlo Cudicini may get a run out in the sticks with Petr Cech getting a blow, and fringe players like Robert Huth may see the first eleven.

Ricardo Carvalho, and Michael Essien are both out due suspension and injury, but Hernan Crespo should start with Didier Drogba also away in Africa. Arjen Robben should return after sitting out the last weeks draw with Charlton due to suspension.

Do you want me to carry on, why can't we be talking about Kerry Dixon, Micky Droy and alike, then I would not be too nervous. (27/01/06)
