Everton travelled to Bolton, one of their least favoured grounds of late, off the back of two good performances that resulted in nothing. A shit performance with all the points would suffice, and our beloved boys in Blue did not disappoint.

Only three games into the season, and Moyesy is down to the bare bones already, but from the off it was Tiny who had a gilt edged chance spurned. A lovely cross out on the left from Pisto, honest yes Pisto gifted Tiny with a free header, but on this occasion the Aussie midfielder mistimed his jump and missed the ball to the Jaskellain's delight. Everton's other effort of a lack lustre first period fell to Zinedine, and his barnet mis fired again, when his free header was poorly directed wide of the Bolton net. Apart from these two chances it was all Bolton. Nige came to the rescue saving bravely at Davies feet, and Okocha, Jaida and Davies all put the Everton back four under pressure. The low point of the first half was the loss of Moyesy only fit left back in the form of Sandro' Pistone. A reckless challenge on Kevin Davies resulted in the Italian being carried of on a stretcher, much to Moyesy's disdain. Phil Neville moved to left back, and the industrious Ossie came on to plug the hole in the midfield.

The half crawled to a stop, with Everton mostly on the back foot, but with injuries to key personal, a first half possession wise dominated by Bolton, Moyesy must have been content with the half time draw.

Half Time: Bolton 0 EVERTON 0

Bolton came at Everton as they did in the first, and if Everton were going to win they would have to do it the hard way. Okocha's long throw's were causing Everton some worry, and that lovely Scouser Ian Nolan should have had a hat trick by now. On our travels last season, Everton were fantastic on the counter, and yesterday was no different. After a mountain of pressure from the home side, Everton broke out of defence and Tiny found himself with the ball wide right. An inch perfect pass sliced open the Bolton defence, and Benty found himself with the ball and an open net, and he duly obliged in giving Everton the lead.

From then on it was backs to the wall, as a procession of Bolton chances went begging. Nige pulled off some world class stops, and the pick of the bunch was when he tipped Okocha's pile driver onto his cross bar. Nolan was the worst culprit, and no doubt Big Sam would have given the whining midfielder some hair dryer treatment at the end.

Everton hung out, and all the back four should take a lot of credit, for some fantastic defending. Pick of the bunch was Joey Yobo who made up for his awful mistake in last weeks defeat. Credit to Nige in the sticks, the Big Man and Jesus fuckin everyone, for a fantastic smash and grab raid at the Reebok.

Low points was Pisto being carted off, and more disturbing the loss of Benty who ran his socks off as always.

Villarreal up next on Wednesday, and if we can nick an early goal, and defend like we did at The Reebok, you just never know. Get the San Mig out, Paella, Sombrero's and your Straw Donkeys and get ready for another roller coaster ride this week. That why we love being Evertonians, they put us through it. Come on You Blue Boys.

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: "It was a great win because you could count on one hand the number of teams that will come here and get a result this season. The boys had to really dig in all the way through the game right until the end and we said that before the game that Bolton could score a goal very easily, very quickly, so it took everybody to play the whole 93, 94 minutes. Well we had quite a few against Villarreal and quite a few against Manchester United. That's football for you, I said I thought we played well in the two games and didn't get any results from them." Everton Team News

Everton are without Harry Hill, Nace, PK and Biffa. The main talking point is who will replace Biffa. Marcus Bent will get the nod. Everton will play 5 in the middle with Cahill and Davies backing Bent up.

Ossie says: “It is going to be very tough. They are one of the toughest side in the league who like to play a physical game with their opponents. They have been well coached by their manager about the system they are going to play. Every player is six foot and we know it is going to be difficult. But we are very positive going into the game and hopefully we can go there and get a good result. We suffered a heavy defeat against Arsenal last year and bounced straight back and hopefully that will happen this season."

Moyesy says: "They have been good games between the sides quite recently, with both games ending 3-2. They have been entertaining games and I hope this is another one. My path has crossed with Big Sam many times over the years. Sam introduced me to England after watching me playing at Dunfermline, helping me come down to Preston, so he is part of the reason I am in England. I think both teams try to get the best out of our players and play in styles that hopefully can work for us. We will do what we can. I think they are quite strong, physical games, although no more than usual because you always have to abide by the rules.

Everton from: Martyn, Hibbert, Weir, Yobo, Osman, Arteta, Neville, Cahill, Kilbane, Ferguson, Bent, Wright, Vaughan, Hughes.

Kipper's Everton XI To Start: Martyn, Hibbert, Yobo, Weir, Pistone, Arteta, Davies, Cahill, Neville, Osman, Bent.

Lavo's Bet: £10 on Cahill for First Goal (7/1).

About The Opposition

Moyesy says: Both sides had great seasons last year, with Sam getting Bolton into the Uefa Cup. It was a marvellous achievement for him to take Bolton to the level they are at when you consider where they were seven or eight years ago. It is a brilliant job. But for us to qualify for the Champions League gives you an idea of how well we did last year. Bolton are capable of scoring goals. They are very good with the long throws and balls into the box, but we carry our own threat."
