"These are big fuckers!" said a fan in the Upper Bullens as the players were warming up. He was right. We only had Beattie, Weir and Yobo who were as big as the notlob players. Not to worry our superior skill will win out, we thought. Only minutes into the match and one of their big boys, Davies was booked for clattering into Phil Neville. This was to be the theme of the rest of the half. Bolton got stuck in and worked their socks off. Everton had plenty of possession and passed the ball around well but never produced anything that would produce a goal.

They scored a scrappy goal when Nolan tried a shot but mis hit the ball. It bounced off the ground to Davies who lobbed a header over Wright and scored, despite Biffa's clearance. The ball had crossed the line. A McFadden effort, deflected for a corner was Everton's best effort or was it our only effort of the half.

Half-Time: Everton 0 Bolton 1

The second half started much like the first with Everton having plenty of the ball, but not able to create anything. Bolton had 10 men behind the ball making it very difficult for Everton to find a way though. When we did get to the byline the final ball was poor. Everton had a series of corners, but couldn't capitalise on them. Why is it that our tater, Faddy and Davies can't clear the first man? There seems to be a thing that the cross must just beat the man at the near post for it to be a good one. What happened to the old fashioned driven ball to the far post? When that happened Yobo did get a header in but it was deflected behind.

McFadden thought he had scored when he got on the end of a pass only to be given offside. From then on it was like the keystone cops for the last 20 minutes with Everton given Bolton 3 goals. Firstly Davie Weir, not for the first time this season, passed the ball straight to a opposition player. Bolton seized their chance and Stelios scored. Minutes later it was three when Valente was all over Davies like a rash and a penalty was given. Gary Speed sent Dickie the wrong way from the spot kick. This prompted a mass exodus from the home fans. Stelios made it four when he took advantage of Yobo slipping and walked passed Weir as if he wasn't there to score. Per Kroldrop getting splinters must be wondering what he has to do get a game.

Everton did finally create a few chances in the last few minutes when Ossie had our first shot of the half which was well saved by their keeper and Cahill missed a sitter after good work by Neville and Arteta. Looking for a man of the match is hard. McFadden and Beattie never had much service, but didn't get into the game much either. The last thing we need is Big Dunc jacking it in. We need him back for the Derby. The back four were poor. I'll go for Arteta who was the best of a bad bunch in midfield.

Full-Time: Everton 0 Bolton 4

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: "We weren’t deserving of a 4-0 defeat that is for sure but if you want to defend the way we defended the three goals in the second half that is what happens. I don’t think we should have been down at half time. We didn’t deserve to be behind we played well in the first half, trying to create chances, trying to make openings. I don’t know if Bolton were in our box once. In the second half we didn’t start quite as well but we had a goal and I think it was offside as far as I know, then we have a short pass, a blatant penalty kick and a slip for their three goals - it was really poor. I will take responsibility for the team but it is very difficult. They were poor, poor goals. They have been a bad two home games for us, we were on a decent little run but the last two games have been poor for us.

I thought we played quite well until the goals went in. I think there was demoralisation after doing so well then going two down when it could quite easily have been one each, then it was a penalty to make it three, then before you know it it was four. If we had got the equaliser most people would have said that Everton were the more likely team to go on and win the game, but we didn’t get it. It is frustrating because we had chances on Wednesday and today to do better, but we have been disappointed and we are feeling down about the results, which have been bad results by our standards as it is not something you expect to happen."

Everton Team News

Doubts for Moyesy in the shape of Jimmy Mac, after the Scot departed early in Wednesday's defeat against the Hammers. Nige is also a major doubt, so Dickie should continue in the sticks. A major boost for the Blues is Tiny Tim. The Aussie has now completed his three match ban, and his legs are fresh and he is raring to go. Also Big Dunc should start if Jimmy does not make it, and he will be like a spring chicken aswell. Mikky should start back in midfield, probably at the expense of Killa, but I was wrong on Wednesday, and I could be again, as Mikky started from the bench.

Moyesy may at last start with PK, after Davey Weir sufferd a torrid night against West Ham. The Summer buy from Udinese must be wondering what he has to do to get a kick. It may be his time.

Tiny says: "I feel recharged but it is disappointing being suspended and not being a part of it. I have just had to deal with it and get on with it. And the time off has given me a bit of a rest and hopefully now I can come back and be available for Saturday. The results against Manchester United and Blackburn have shown what a good squad we have. It would still be good to add to the squad, but if people are suspended or injured we still need to produce and the lads who have been in have done that. Now we need to kick on a bit. We want it to be a good time for us." (16/12/05)

About The Opposition

Bolton will be on a high after booking their place in the last 32 of the UEFA Cup this week. Casualty from their draw against Sevilla is Ricardo Gardner, and he is a major doubt. Ben Haim is still suspended, but Bolton will have ex Blue Gary Speed back in contention after sitting out Wednesday's European game.

Speed says: "I love playing against Everton, especially at Goodison Park - I supported them as a kid and it is a fantastic stadium. They beat us last season and at the start of this campaign, so it would be nice to get one over on them. However, we know it will be a difficult game." (16/12/05)

Bolton from: Jaaskelainen, O'Brien, N'Gotty, Gardner, Faye, Nolan, Speed, Giannakopoulos, Diouf, Davies, Jaidi, Vaz Te, Walker, Okocha, Fadiga, Nakata, Borgetti.
