Ah yes, fantastic. The last three matches, is back to the form of last season. A good away win last week, a creditable draw against the Champions, and yesterday a victory against a side in top form. Moyesy predictably named an unchanged side, and once again they delivered the goods, and repaid Boro for the Cup defeat inflicted on us ten days earlier.

The players answered Moyesy's plea to make Goodison the fortress it once was. The crowd were vocal, the players up for it, and from the off Everton wanted it. With Andy Pandy, out wide left, and Mikky Arteta out wide right, Everton had at last the width and the delivery for Biffa, and Dunc to get their teeth into.

It was an inch perfect cross from the Dutch winger that set up Biffa for the games only goal. Biffa got between two Boro defenders to guide his header into the Park End net to send the crowd into raptures. The cross was a delightful one from Andy Pandy, who later delivered again, only this time to see Biffa connect well. but his header flew over the bar.

As ever Ol' Mother Riley (worst ref in the Prem), was picking on Dunc, as the aerial bombardment continued. Mikky and Andy swapped sides, Mikky coming out onto the left, and in fact going anywhere where the ball was. Another terrific performance from the young Spaniard. Yakuba had a chance to pull level, but a brave save from Nige at his feet, meant the Blues went in 1-0 up.

H-T 1-0

Due to an injury sustained to Simon Davies, the second half turned into an uncomfortable one, as Moyesy brought on Killa. Not a slant at Kilbane's performance, but Davies is looking more and more settled in the midfield, and his loss early in the half reflected in Everton's play. Boro pushed on, and brought Viduka on, who started to run the show for the Teesiders. Andy Pandy had ten more minutes this week, as Faddy came on to replace him. When Benty came into the fray for the big man, Moyesy was looking to protect what he had, rather than grab another as he went 4-5-1.

Ironically it was Bent and Mc Fadden who linked up, to hand Biffa the chance to make it two, with the move of the match. Faddy low cross across the area was hit first time by Biffa, who shot crashed back off the bar. Should have put it away, but two goals in three matches, is not a bad return, as the strikers performances are starting to match his hefty signing on fee.

Boro themselves watched an effort glance off the bar, but the Blues held on to register their first home League win off the season. Five places moved in two weeks, so at that rate we will be top of the pile by Easter. Watch out Chelsea.

Starman, well only one contender as Mikky Arteta ran the show from start to finish. Tommy who, I hear you say !

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: "I would like to think we have turned the corner but I wouldn't be daft enough to come out and say that. We need to win more games. I hoped we wouldn't have been in this position in the first place but we are. But we have now taken seven points from nine available and that is good mileage at the moment. But we are going to have to do a lot more in the coming weeks.

We were pleased with the result and the way the game went. Middlesbrough are in good form at the moment, we mustn’t take that away from them, and maybe the midweek game caught up on them a bit, but I’m pleased with us getting the three points and we made one or two chances as well. I want to encourage a good team spirit, and a good work ethic about us. I think we need to make sure we get back to that first, that would be the first stepping stone to getting us out of the position we are in.

The team needed to work hard for each other and that happened today in abundance. You could see players covering for each other if somebody mistimed a tackle or was out of position. That is the first step to getting us up the league. There was times when I was frustrated with our play because some of things we did was not great. Simple things looked difficult for us today. We want to play much better and the intention was to do that but we won a few games in a similar style last year. I was happy to see James Beattie score in open play. But I wouldn't have cared who had scored, I would have been relieved. The win was important and maybe at the end, after we had weathered a good part of the storm, we could have got that second goal. Nevertheless, one is important to us now. It was a 1-0 win. We have lost a few 1-0 this season so that is a bit of a turnaround."

Off The Ball

* Phil Neville telling the ball boy to come onto the pitch to get the ball for him. The kid was very hesitant as he knows he's not to go on the pitch. In the end he kicks the ball to Neville who then tells him to get off the pitch.

Everton Team News

Lets hope Moyesy decides not to fix, which at the moment is not broken. After last weeks much needed away win at Brum, but more importantly the performance that went with it, Moyesy must be looking to keep the same starting eleven that served him so well. That will mean with the absence still of Nuno and Matteo, Phil Neville staying at left back, Andy Pandy keeping his position on the left wing, and Mikky Arteta playing out wide on the right. Moyesy however is giving the Spaniard licence to roam, but essentially he will be there to keep the supply line to Biffa and Big Dunc going.

The long term injury list stays the same, with Harry Hill, Nace and Sandro all having enforced breaks. The news on Vaughny and Matteo is more encouraging with both back in training. They will not make this squad, but after the International break, a welcome return probably for both of them. PK will be in the squad, and don't be surprised if the tall Danish centre half, gets a run out from the bench at some stage in the game, as when his fitness has been proven, he will no doubt be on Moyesy first eleven team sheet at every oppurtunity.

Moyesy says: "We still have injuries to Lee Carsley, Gary Naysmith and Sandro Pistone - all of which are relatively long-term - but in the short term the likes of Nuno Valente and Matteo Ferrari are not too far away and James Vaughan as well is probably two to three weeks away so hopefully those players can add even more competition.

In the last few weeks we have got back to what we feel we should be about. We have had a great record at Goodison Park over the last few years, it has been a place that teams do not like playing and, with our crowd behind us, it has been a difficult place for our opponents. We made it difficult for teams and we need to start getting back to that sort of level. We need to get back to what we are good at and letting our fans see what we are about. But Boro are in really good form at the moment with goals coming from lots of areas and different players.

You only had see how well they did against Manchester United and then in the Uefa Cup. They have lots of potential goalscorers, and that is something we have been lacking. We have players who are certainly capable of goals from the likes of Tim Cahill, Simon Davies and Mikel Arteta. All those players from midfield have proved they can get goals and that is what we are looking for from them." (05/11/05)

About The Opposition

Boro come to Goodison after a week of scoring for fun. After easing four past man ure last week, Viduka, Mendiata and co., slotted another three in front of a piss poor crowd in the UEFA Cup on Thursday night. They however have injury worries in the form of Gareth Southgate, Ray Parlour, Ugo Ehiogu and ex Blue turned pinkie, and I am not talking about his hair Abel Xavier. Fabio Rochemback might return after being ineligible for the Uefa Cup, but he has a groin problem, as could Jimmy Floyd to the starting eleven.
