Fantastic, my first hangover in a while were I can be sick as a dog, but with a smile on my face. Everton travelled to the team they hoped to leap frog by ensuring a victory, and Moyesy's intentions were clear. All out to win. Killa was dropped (about three weeks to late), Phil Neville went in at left back, and new boy Andy Van was picked on the left for his Premiership debut. Big Dunc as we thought partnered Biffa, Tiny came back in, and it was looking like an Everton side we have longed for this season. 4-4-2 and full of attacking promise.

Brum like the Blues are low on confidence, and Everton put them on the back foot from the off. The game was no classic, but if a team wanted a win it was the Blues. Andy Van looked menacing out on the left, and Tiny seemed to have some of his old running of last season back. Simon Davies and Mikky ran the middle, and it was looking comfortable.

Biffa went close with a header, Tiny had another header well saved by Taylor, but the breakthrough came just before half time. Andy Van who had impressed throughout the first half, find Simple Simon with a lovely pass. Davies drove a speculative shot from thirty odd yards towards Taylor, and the keeper completely missed timed his dive, and Everton were one up. The goal as they say could not have come at a better time.

H-T 0-1

As expected Brum came out with a bit more fire in their bellies, and Nige was called on once or twice to keep the Blues in it. Everton though still pressed. Biffa again forcing another save out of Taylor, as did Dunc, who should have done better with a gifted opportunity from Upson.

Moyesy brought on Killa for Andy Van, as the Dutch wingers legs were turning to lead. His first pass went astray, a few of us shouted at him, but he is just a player low on confidence at present, so maybe a spell out of the side and competition for his place will bring the best out of the seasoned pro. Brum's best chance brought the save of the game out of Nige, as he tipped Kilkenny's free kick on to the post.

Everton won comfortably in the end, or as comfortable as a 1-0 win can be. No one stood out in leaps and bounds for starman. Phil Neville brought a bit of solidity to the defence, with good organisation al skills, and some solid tackling. He only played an hour, but brought another dimension to Everton's game, so Andy Van gets my nod. He set up the goal, tackled back, and had some good vision about him.

Boro next week, can't wait, we owe them. Might just get pissed again.

Dunc Watches As Simon Davies Scores

Davies Is Smothered By Joey, Biffa and Tim
Match report by Everton Fan, Grant the very happy brummie Evertonian.

MOM Joseph yobo

This time last year a Saturday night use to be full of plenty of ale to celebrate another 1-0 away win, but this season I'm prepared to celebrate with plenty of ale when we just score a goal. So as I slept on Saturday morning in the concrete city of Birmingham where I've lived for the past 25 years I was dreaming of going into work on Monday morning bragging about how my beloved Everton had climbed away from the pits of the premiership and sent them straight to the bottom. Well what can I say other than for the first time in my life I was early for work this morning, there all very quiet.

I enjoy every other Saturday traveling up with my 2 fellow brummie evertonians to watch moyes’ boys, but this year it’s been a strain, but we’ll never stop going NO MATTER WHAT!

1st Half

As the referee blew the whistle at 3pm on Saturday, yes I did say 3pm on a Saturday and not 11:15am or 2pm on a Sunday, the Everton end was in full cry. The game started with a nice bit of football being played by Everton with Van der Meyde making a bright start on his full debut.

You could tell by the early exchanges that both teams were lacking that vital ingredient called confidence. Everton had the better of the play at beginning with a good run down the wing by van der Meyde who was starting to show signs of what we’ve been waiting for. Cahill was the first to go close with a lovely diving header, only for Taylor to dive to his right and turn it around the post.

After around 30 minutes off went Nicky butt who apparently had double vision, he should stay off the vodka the night before a game and on came a young lad called Neil kilkenny who turned out to be there best player, but Everton’s confidence was now growing and as we broke away a cross from van der Meyde landed on James beattie's head at the back post, beattie tried a looping header to the opposite corner only for it to drop agonizingly over the bar.

With half time approaching van der Meyde made a darting run down the left wing, cut inside and fed Simon Davies with every Everton fan in the crowd screaming at him to run with it and shoot he did, didn’t seem like the greatest contact but all of a sudden the net bulged, Miak Taylor in the Birmingham goal had let the ball bounce in front of him and could only help the ball into the net, up jumped Davies in celebration, up jumped moyes off the bench, up jumped the 1500 evertonians into wild celebrations, we scored I cant believe it we scored, id been drinking before the game so I had to double check that I wasn’t dreaming.

Then with only a few moments left jarosik makes a break into the box and takes a tumble all the evertonians held there breathe but correctly nobby styles said correctly no penalty. The ref blew the whistle for half time and as the home crowed booed the traveling army cheered there team off the field.

Joey yobo who had been solid in the first half was limping and I seen Tim Cahill show the team spirit we have been lacking this season by carrying yobo off the pitch.

2nd Half

The half started with Birmingham putting a lot of pressure on us but yobo and weir were solid at the back not letting anything past them. With Beattie running himself into the ground up front and in defence Everton were defending for there lives.

Then nobby stiles gave a very dubious free kick on the edge of our box, as I watched through my fingers who killed Kenny stepped up hit it and as the ball went passed Martyn and hit the post I thought no please no, someone up there heard me as the ball rolled across the goal line and to Arteta who hacked it clear. The game was getting stretched and Everton had chances to bury the game, Beattie should have done better and the big man had a couple of chances that he should have taken.

With only a bit of the game left van der meyde was withdrawn and he got a standing ovation from the Evertonians, he may have tired in the 2nd half but from what we seen I think we’ve got a gem. On comes Kilbane who I think passed the ball more to there players than ours, but for once I'm going to leave him alone, now’s not the time.

The ref blows the final whistle the crowd go barmy Cahill jumps on kilbane and the next thing moyes has made all the players come across and throw there shirts into the crowd, finally we had something to be proud of, finally we can hold our head up high and be proud of our lads.

The team spirit could be seen, Neville who must have been on the pitch after the game for what seemed to be forever was punching the air in delight, you could see on the player’s faces what this result meant to them and us. So finally to sum the day I would say, we got pissed, we scored, we won, were back!

Man of the match has to be Joseph Yobo. He was a rock at the back, also well done to Simon Davies you finally let us see why Moyes wanted you. It may not have been the greatest of games but boy did we enjoy it. (31/10/05)

Kipper Kam

Lavo on Andy Van Der Meyde: I was delighted to see the Dutch man in the starting eleven yesterday, and even more delighted at what he had to offer to the Blues. Early days admittedly, but it appears to me that although a left winger, Moyesy has given him licence to cut inside, go in the middle, just to be around the ball giving his team mates passing options.

I was very impressed with his tracking back, and his desire to win the ball, and he showed this on more than one occasion in an impressive first half. It was his running at defenders that led to Everton's goal, as he beat the full back back, and with a square pass into space he allowed Simon Davies to bury the ball in the Brum net. His crossing was excellent, and hopefully this in the future will open up chances for Biffa and Dunc.

Andy tired in the second half and was replaced by Killa, but a positive step was taken by Moyesy yesterday, and I believe we will be seeing a lot more of the Dutch man if he stays injury free this season. (30/10/05)

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: "I don't think we could have put out a more attacking side if we had tried. We had Andy Van der Meyde on one wing, Mikel Arteta on the other, two attacking midfielders in Tim Cahill and Simon Davies with Duncan Ferguson and James Beattie up front. We came here to try to win the game. I have sensed the confidence coming back after the Chelsea game.

You notice small things that maybe you didn't realise had been missing. I can hear their voices much more often around the place. Even the groundsman is brushing the leaves off the pitch now! Maybe we didn't see that before. The chef baked us a cake the other day - small things which are required that you don't see when you are in the eye of the storm.

The players were needing a result, something to hang on to at the moment. I think the Chelsea game gave us that. Football has such a fine dividing line. We scored the goal against Birmingham and were able to hang on to that. In every other game this season we've been chasing the goal. It is a very fine line between losing and winning. Birmingham have a really good team and kept coming at us which we knew would happen.

I just felt they reminded me a lot of the way we have been at home, probably needing for things to break for them. We knew the importance of the game to both teams and we set our stall out to get the points. This was our day and we deserved it.''

Off The Ball

* The Linesman in the first half when the ball went out no more than five foot in front of him, refusing to put his flag up. All the players waited for about thirty seconds as he stood there like a rabbit stuck in the headlights. In the end the ref (Knob Styles) who was twenty odd yards away gave the throw to Brum. The linesman then stuck his flag up. Turd !! (30/10/05)

Everton Team News

Everton should welcome back Dunc and Tiny to the starting eleven, after their midweek break from first team action. Andy Van Der Meyde should start if the news on Matteo Ferrari is correct. The Italian defender is a huge doubt, so Killa may revert to left back, leaving the door open for the Dutch man to make his Premiership bow.

I fear it may be the time for Davey Weir to have a good blow, and Moyesy may choose to start PK in the centre of defence with Joey. In fairness Moyesy has to try something, and the Dane looked the picture of health as he warmed up with the other subs against Boro in midweek.

One thing the gaffer has got right in recent weeks is starting his formation 4-4-2, and Dunc should partner Biffa up front, with Andy Van firing over the bullets. Come on you Blue Boys.

Nige says: "From our point of view we need clean sheets. That is what we achieved last season and that is what we aim to achieve again this season. Not many teams have really ran over the top of us and we haven’t really let in bucket loads of goals our goals against column is worse than it should be but not as bad as it could have been perhaps, we are trying to remain as solid as possible and the result against Chelsea is only a good thing in that department. The defence did do very well. The whole back four, including Matteo when he came on for Nuno, played their parts as well. They got most of the plaudits and it was pleasing for them, I was especially pleased for Joe (Yobo) given the stick he had taken for the Tottenham game and everything. He came back with a really solid display and it was good for him and his confidence.

It is a very tough place to go (Brum). I think it was one-nil last season with Thomas Gravesen grabbing the penalty. It was tough but we have go to go out with the same sort of mentality and see if we can grind out another one. That’s what we are looking to do, go on a little run of games undefeated and start pushing ourselves up the league and taking the pressure off ourselves a little. But all we can guarantee is performance and if we give good performances then hopefully we can pick up the points." (28/10/05)

About The Opposition

Ex shit 'ed Emily Heskey is doubtful for the Saturday's clash. Emily picked up a groin injury during the Carling Cup win over Norwich on Wednesday night . If Heskey does miss out then Mikael Forssell will partner Walter Pandiani in attack. Brum will also be without David Dunn who is facing another two weeks out with a calf problem, while Muzzy Izzet is still someway off making a return from his knee injury.

Jiri Jarosik is fit again and is pushing for a place in midfield, and in defence Oliver Tebily will continue to deputise for the injured Mario Melchiot, while Martin Taylor will makeway for the returning Kenny Cunningham.

Brum's form has been patchy just like ours, so the proverbial six pointer line is being touted around, shit it isn't even November. (28/10/05)
