Everton: Westerveld, Yobo, Weir, Stubbs, Valente, Davies, Cahill, Osman, Kilbane, Arteta, Beattie.

Bench: Carsley, McFadden, Ruddy, Naysmith, Vidarsson.

Referee: Graham Poll

Not much to write home about in the first half hour, until a goal line clearance by the very ugly Ramage from a cross from Biffa prevented Killa from scoring.

The next fifteen minutes was all Everton. The brilliant Mikky Arteta released Nuno on the left. He put in a whopper of a cross that was cleared by Elliot.

From the corner Davie Weir almost gave the Toffees the lead when he had a header booted off the line by little fat man Emre.

Everton were going to score I could feel it in my jimmy. And the beautiful Mikky produced one of his famous free kicks that bent over the wall and on its way to the net only for the very good Given to make an outstanding save.

From the resulting corner Davie Weir had his second header cleared off the line by the now slightly slimmer Emre. Unbastardbelievable.

The skunks had their first shot of the half and it produced a wonder save from now a blue Sander. From a near point blank shot he managed to get his hands to deflect the ball over the bar.

Half Time: Newcastle 0 EVERTON 0

Everton started the half the way they had finished the first, on top. The wondrous Arteta thread a super ball for Leon to latch onto but unfortunately he shot wide of the target.

But just after the hour we went behind from a Nobby Solano effort. N`Zogbia destroyed Davie as he cut into the box. He hit his cross for past Sander for Nobby to slide in.

I don’t know about everyone else but I thought that was game over. We had most of the game up until that point; I just couldn't see us getting back into the game.

The goal lifted Newcastle and they went further ahead after a passing move ended with Solano hitting one from the edge of the box that gave Sander no chance.

The game ended with no more chances for the Toffeemen and our mini run was over. Let us hope we can put this to bed and start on another winning streak against the Hammers next week.

Two things of note to come out of the game. Firstly Sander Westerveld can kick the ball very far and secondly I think am falling in love with Mikky Arteta, who was without doubt the Blue Kipper Star Man.

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: "I thought we did well in he game. There were periods we controlled and we were not under much pressure before the goal.Maybe we could have done a little bit better. We had a chance to score one ourselves just 30 seconds before they scored.

The first goal in the Premier League is always very important and I thought it would be today. But overall, I think the performance was fine.I didn't think we deserved to be down but I was pleased with how the boys played, although I was obviously disappointed we couldn't get back into it.

We have lost one in eight now. We have to think of that and not the last 30 minutes today. If you had given me that run of form I would have taken it. The players played well today with a lot of confidence and self-belief. But we didn't keep the ball up front well enough in the second half and we didn't finish off the opportunities we had with the good play in the first half. There are little things we can pick out but overall I am pleased with how my players performed."

Davie Weir says:
"We played well today and I thought we were the better team. We should have come away with something, but there is a fine line in this league and when you go behind you leave yourself a mountain to climb. The team that scored first was always going to be the winners, and unfortunately I had a couple cleared off the line and we had a couple of other chances that went quite close, but we couldn’t quite do it. We can’t be happy with any defeat. There are things we have to improve on without a doubt, but that is what we are all about. We are about trying to get better. We have been on a good run but that has ended now, so we have got to try and get on another one." (26/02/06)

Everton Team News

Everton I believe create Premiership history with the use of a fifth keeper in this League campaign, in the form of ex shite keeper Sander Westerveld who has been brought in from Pompey for a months loan spell. This is not Moyesy's only headache with three outfield players suspended in the shape of Tony Hibbert, Phil Neville, and Mike Tys..., sorry Duncan Ferguson. Joey returns from African Nations action, and should step in to replace Hibbo, with the returning Lee Carsley should anchor up the midfield on a ground were he netted last season.

Moyesy has no serious injury worries, and he will be keen to carry on his team's impressive Premiership form, since the turn of the year. The Blues have not played for a fortnight, as most of the squad have enjoyed a mid season break in the sun, after a trip to Florida. Although light training was done, Moyesy looked on the trip as another team bonding exercise, and now the players are raring to go, by carrying on their good form.

Biffa says: "There is a good craic amongst the lads. The lads are great, it is easy to get on with every one of them and I consider every one as a good friend of mine. It counts for a lot when you are on the pitch. We have got a really good record from the last couple of months and it is all credit to the lads. We can't fear going anywhere at the moment. We are extremely confident - whether that is a good thing or a bad thing remains to be seen. But we are looking forward to the game and it is a great place to go and play football.

You like to go and play well at any stadium. But they have a tradition of centre-forwards at Newcastle similar to Everton's and it will be a nice place to go and get three points. I don't care who scores, along as we get the three points and silence the 50,000 there. I enjoy scoring but as long as we get the points I am happy. We have won a lot of games this year 1-0 and if we can start getting a couple more here and there it would be good." (24/02/06)

About The Opposition

Newcastle at last have sacked Graeme Sounness, and Glenn Roeder has temporarily took charge of the reins, with Tyneside hero Alan Shearer as his No.2. Shearer however is battling against injury and will be given to the last minute to prove his fitness. Michael Owen is a definite non starter, as are Kieron Dyer and Titus Bramble who are both out with hamstring trouble. Celestine Babayaro returns after suspension, as the Skunks look to improve on their goalless draw against Charlton on Wednesday evening.

Roeder on Shearer: At the moment, because he is such a positive person, he's thinking he will play. If we both feel he can, he will play, and if he's not certain he can, then we would take him out and know that the following week he will be fully fit and guaranteed to get through the rest of the season, all things being equal. He's too valuable to the team to take a chance." (24/02/06)

Newcastle from: Given, Harper, Ramage, Boumsong, Elliott, Babayaro, Parker, Emre, Solano, N'Zogbia, Bowyer, Clark, Brittain, Pattison, Shearer, Ameobi, Luque, Chopra.
