As you can see from the timing of the report none of the kipper boys has wanted to write this one, can you blame us. A capitulation of the worst sorts. Most of us thought, no danger, three more points on our travels, against a side that is continually yo yoing from Premiership to Championship every season. Mark my words for West Brom this season will be no different, so the question is where does that leave the Blues. If medals were awarded for the best inconsistent team every season, Everton would win hands down, they build you up, to knock you down spectacularly, Saturday epitomised that.

We started well, for ten minutes anyway, then a mixture of shite play, poor refereeing and a player with a point to prove, cost Everton there heaviest defeat of the season to date. Jimmy Sommerville, a ref who should have retired years ago, made two major bloopers, firstly awarding the Baggies a pen, when clearly Hibbo upended Ellignton outside the box, and in the second half, the Baggies keeper handled outside the area, but again no justice.

We had our chances through Andy Pandy, and Bent, but no credit can be given to anyone on such a dreadful night. Further goals from Clement, Ellington again, and one time Everton target Robert Earnshaw sealed a piss poor night for the Blues.

From the highs and optimism of a few weeks ago, now after a defeat, and a heavy one at that, we are back to looking for how Sunderland, West Brom and Pompey are getting on, instead of Man ure, Spurs, the Arse and alike. A long hard slog awaits, and so does Everton's nemesis Michael Owen this weekend. (22/11/05)

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: “It wasn’t good, it was a poor performance. There were factors which led to it like the penalty kick being given for being a yard outside the box just before half-time but we should have dealt with it. It is ridiculous that we gave the ball away and didn’t deal with it. Then we are forced at half-time to re-jig, not that we had played well in the first half but we were looking to go in at the break nothing each and then do something about it.
Five minutes into the second-half we concede a goal from a corner kick and all I wish was that we could score them like that from our corner kicks. We had one or two opportunities but not enough. We didn’t create enough but we had possession at times, we just never looked as if were going to do anything with it. The second-half was really disappointing, especially the performance because we were determined at half-time to put it right and turn it around.”

Davie Weir says: “What can you say? It is not good enough. We realise that a lot of people have travelled here today. They have come here, paid their money and we have given them nothing. We can only apologise for the performance and say to the fans that we must improve because we realise they cannot be happy with that. I don’t know what went wrong.

We just didn’t seem to win any of the battles, they were first to the ball and seemed to be that little bit sharper than us, but there are no excuses for the performance. The foul was outside the box and little things like that turn games but we have to respond to that. You can’t just accept it and say it is not going to be our day. You have to come out, be positive and try and do something about the situation. The lads are disappointed with it; they are embarrassed by the result.

To go anywhere and lose 4-0 is disappointing but to lose like that to a team below you is hugely disappointing. We are not happy with it, we know we have to better and the only way we can respond to it is by improving next week. We have a good spell and this has set us back again but it is up to us and we can either take it on the chin and move on or dwell on it. I know which is the better option.”

Everton Team News

Everton go into tomorrow's tea time kick off, with a run of three unbeaten in the Premiership. Everton's only doubt for an unchanged side will be Tiny Tim, not through injury, but more jet lag after the Aussie's excursions in the World Cup Qualifiers in the week. Simon Davies has been passed fit, and will keep his place in the midfield. If Tiny is dropped to the bench it may open the door to Ossie to slot into the middle. Andy Pandy should start out wide on the left, with Mikky Arteta on the other flank supplying the ammo for Dunc and Biffa. Phil Neville will start at left back, but it won't be long till Nuno and Matteo are knocking on the door, then Moyesy will have selection posers in the full back berth.

Three out of the next four games for the Blues are away from Goodison, and Moyesy believes his players can deal with the task of picking up points on their travels.

Moyesy says: We just want to keep progressing and trying to get a few wins. If we keep doing that it will keep us moving in the right direction. We have got a tough period coming up with three away games from four. That seems strange having only just come through a period with quite a few away games. We know it will be hard but we have got some confidence and self-belief back amongst us so hopefully that will show in the games. The fixture list has been torrid because of the way it has come out. But we can't be blaming a computer for our mistakes - that is not the case. But there is no doubt that until the middle of December we are disadvantaged in terms of away games. But then the month of December has an awful lot of games at home. I don't know if that helps because we would have liked our home games spread out better. But that is how it has come out and that is how we deal with it." (18/11/05)

About The Opposition

This is the Baggies worst start to a Prem campaign, and until last April they were yet to beat Everton since the inception of the Premiership. West Brom have two Everton old boy's in their set up, with Super Kev and Stevey Watto now donning the Baggies strip. They sit two places and two points behind us in the League, and have not registered any points in the last three matches, shit should not have put that.

Their match winner of last season against us, Zoltan Gera misses out as he recovers from a hernia operation while left-back Paul Robinson is suspended.

Everton Old Boy Steve Watson says: "They have a good work ethic and that helped them to fourth place last season yet I don't think there's much between the sides. They did spend more on players than we have but we have a decent sized squad and the one thing we have got is togetherness and that will help us this season.

We have a lot of quality here. Okay so we haven't spent £6million on a players like James Beattie or £5million on a centre-back like Per Kroldrup but we have a good bunch of lads here and I don't think there's much to choose between us. We have got a good squad of players who had a good second half to last season and I really don't think there is much to choose between the two clubs. We showed against Arsenal, when we won 2-1 that we can beat anyone at home and we need to show that attitude again because we've lost far too many at home. We know this Saturday's game is one we need to win." (18/11/05)

West Brom from: Kuszczak, Watson, Davies, Clement, Albrechtsen, Greening, Wallwork, Inamoto, Kamara, Horsfield, Ellington, Earnshaw, Kanu, Hoult, Scimeca, Moore, Carter.
