With both teams out of the FA Cup, Everton used the oppotunity to have a mid-season friendly against struggling League 1 side AFC Bournemouth. Everton started with a strong XI. Dickie started in goal and Tony Hibbert made a return to right back. Pistone also returned at left back with Nace ahead of him in the left wing position. Everton welcomed new signing
Anderson de Silva into the midfield and opted for Big Vic and Biffa upfront.

Everton started off the brighter in the opening moments showing some nice neat passing. With all the possesion though, Everton were hardly creating any clear-cut chances. Bournemouth came back into the game and striker James Hayter, who looked very decent had a half chance that Dickie easily saved. Still though, Everton enjoyed the better of the possesion. Anderson looked very neat and tidy and looks to be a good asset. Lets hope he can cut it in the Premiership. Former England player Darren 'Sicknote' Anderton showed some good ability at times in trying to create an oppotunity for the
south-coast side, but Stubbsey and Roger were strong and solid. Half time came with some nice passing and movement from both sides but nothing in the form of goalmouth action

Half-Time: Bournemoth 0 EVERTON 0

Moyesey made a host of changes in the second half bringing on Phil Neville, Ossie, Jimmy Vaughan who replaced Mikel Arteta, Tim Cahill and Victor Anichebe. The game was still very much even until the 55th minute when Bournemouth took the lead through their long serving player Steve Fletcher. The impressive James Hayter turned a flat footed Stubbs and set up Fletcher for an easy chance at goal. Everton now had to find a goal from somewhere but for all Jimmy Vaughan's effort, Biffa just didn't perform. I've always tried to support him but after today's performance it must surely be hard to consider him for a start next week. Everton made another substitution bringing on Icelandic youngster Bjarni Vidarsson who replaced Pistone.

Everton pressed for the equaliser but still didn't look like scoring untill Vidarsson managed to level things up late on with a scrappy effort. Ossie made a few jinking runs at the Bournemouth defense and looked dangerous but Everton were forced to consolidate a draw.
All in all, the game was a good run out for the returning players. Everton have to play much better next week if we are to win the derby. Without AJ we do not look as threatening going forward. Only Mikky really looked like
creating anything special and needs to carry that form into next week. Biffa really struggled, the best we can hope from him is to rough people up maybe in the last 15mins, he looks terribly low on confidence. The best player by far was Ossie. Regardless who the opposition was he was willing to run and make an impact on the game. My starman would have to go to him.

All that is left for me to say is C'MON YOU BLUES, i'd love a win at Analfield next week, I'm sick of southern redshite fans. It would be brilliant to be able to give them a bit of stick next week!

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: "I thought it was a good run out for one or two players. Tony Hibbert has hardly trained, Sandro Pistone and Anderson de Silva came in and James Vaughan got a bit of a game as well so that was good. We didn't play well enough to win but the boys got a run around. Had we not come down we would have had to have a training game. There were a lot of people from Bournemouth who were at the game and it was a good opportunity for a lot of fans who maybe don't get the chance to see the boys too often. It was just a training session really. Victor and Tim Cahill came off with bit of injuries so we will have to see how they are."

What The Fans Thought

What did you think of the match?  Did Moyesy get his team selection and tactics right?  e-mail info@bluekipper.com after the game.

* I went along to the bournemouth game, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the boys. Allmost the whole squad played,so it was great to see what they could all do. Stubbs and Arteta were class in the first half, and da silva showed alot of promise. Beattie was away with the fairies for the majority of the game and Cahill was very quiet. The home grown talent seemed to work the hardest, Hibbert, Vaughan and Osman really got stuck in, and you could see the hunger in Phil Neville, who at one point appeared to be playing the lone striker role! For the Off the ball feature, I thought it was worth mentioning that a quarter of the way into the second half, a group of seagulls flew into the stadium. Everyone at the Everton end were more interested in the gulls than the game, a scouse lad started chanting 'Seagull- Seagull Seagull! Also at half time some of the Everton players stayed on the pitch, young yozza being one of them, he volleyed the ball straight at the eldest fellow who just so happened to be the cameraman, BOING!! off of his swede! Cheers Dan

Off The Ball

* Anderson de Silva wearing number 38 and 'Anderson' on his shirt.

* Game delayed due to the number of fans still outside the ground at 2.00pm. The game kicked off at 2.15pm

Everton Team News

Everton play Bournmouth in a friendly and, Moyesy intends to give the players coming back from injury the chance to get a game. Plus it will give Evertonians the chance to see Anderson de Silva for the first time and an outside chance of seeing Manny.

Moyesy says: "Anderson de Silva will play some of the game against Bournemouth. We will take most players from the first team squad but there will be one or two omissions. We need a game, as it not ideal to go so long between Wigan and the derby without one. All the players who would have been involved for the reserves will figure. Richard Wright, Alessandro Pistone and Andy van der Meyde will all play and we'll see if Tony Hibbert can make his comeback, but we are not too sure yet."

Alan Irvine says: "We have a few free FA Cup weekends now. We will have to find different ways of dealing with those free weekends, but we felt that for this weekend playing a game was the right thing to do. We had the opportunity presented to us to play Bournemouth because they are out of the Cup as well. We felt it was too long between the Wigan game and the derby match, so the right thing to do was to train hard this week without thinking we have got a game and then we will go to Bournemouth."We will play the game with a team of first-team players. Hopefully we can make as many changes as we like but the idea is to make sure players don't lose any match fitness. We will use the game to bring one or two back like Alessandro Pistone and Tony Hibbert. But the main aim is to keep the match sharpness of the players who have been playing anyway.

Everton from: Wright, Howard, Turner, Neville, Yobo, Stubbs, Hughes, Lescott, Pistone, Osman, Arteta, Cahill, Carsley, Beattie, Anichebe, Vaughan, van der Meyde, de Silva, Hibbert, Fernandes.
