EVERTON

    Goalscorers: Anichebe (2), Arteta.

Everton: Iain Turner, Phil Neville, Mark Hughes, Joseph Yobo, Paddy Boyle, Leon Osman, Mikel Arteta, Scott Phelan, Bjarni Vidarsson, Victor Anichebe, Andy Johnson.

Bench: Ste Connor, Darren Dennehy, Scott Spencer, John Ruddy, Alan Kearney

Referee:

Andy Johnson made his first appearance for the Blues, and left the pitch in his grundies after he found himself defrocked at the final whistle. Andy had five or six chances to net, but found an inspired Bury keeper in the form of Alan Fettis. A brace from Big Vic, and one from Micky Arteta, got the Blues off to a winning start.

Andy says: "The fans were brilliant today and they are the main reason I signed for the club. They had to persevere with me a little bit because I missed a few chances, which is disappointing. But it is only the first game of pre-season and I am delighted to get 90 minutes under my belt.

We have only been working with the football for two or three days so I am confident the goals will come.

I was happy with my movement but I have got to get my timing now and we will do a bit more finishing in training but I am confident the goals will come anyway. It was a good performance, we passed the ball well. Towards the end of the first-half the boys started to get tired but everyone is delighted they got 90 minutes. It was difficult conditions but the fans were brilliant. They turned out in their hundreds and were tremendous." (16/07/06)

Everton Are Rumoured To Be Wearing This Kit Against Bury

Everton have a third kit. The colour has been described in some quarters as baby shit yella, spew colour, but the official stance will be mustard. Lets hope they wear this one, as they never wore last season's sunshine yellow one.

Team To Play Port Vale

About The Opposition

Phil Neville is looking forward to playing against the team he supported as a boy, but also because most of his family work for them.

Phil says: "My mum is the secretary, my dad used to work there as the commercial manager, my grandad is on the car park and my gran does the catering so we have monopolised the whole club! It is a club that is close to my heart, I was brought up in Bury and I have been watching and supporting the club since I was five."
