EVERTON

    Goalscorers: Anichebe         Att: 10,259

Everton: Wright, Hibbert, Stubbs, Lescott, Boyle, Osman, Neville (capt), Cahill, Kilbane, Anichebe, Buckley.

Bench:
Howard for Wright(45m), Pistone for Boyle(45m), Weir for Stubbs(45M), Arteta for Osman(45m), Beattie for Anichebe(45m), Davies for Cahill(60m), Naysmith for Hibbert(83m).

Referee: Mr Grajeda

Victor Anichebe staked a claim for a starting place in the Premiership when he had a great half playing alongside trialist, Delron Buckley. Vic looked strong and was a constant threat to the Crew defence. He scored a great goal when Buckley played him in and Vic finished with a powerful drive into the corner. Before his goal he had a chance, but shot wide. He had a few more half chances before half-time. One shaved the foot of the post.

Everton went behind to a strike from the edge of the area. Boyle and Lescott started a bit dodgy, but once into their stride played well. Killa, Leon, Tony Hibbert and Tim Cahill were very much involved as the game went on.

Half Time Columbus Crew 1 Everton 1

Everton brought on 5 subs at half time. One of the Mikel Arteta was straight into his tricks and set up Killa with a great reverse pass, but it came to nothing. The second half was disappointing, with Everton having quite a bit of possession, but not many chances. Our Tater got booked after a he fouled then booted the ball away in frustration.

Fans Match Report By Kevin Totty

Not a great match but considering that Columbus have played for months straight & we're just getting back into form & we were in their house then it was a moral victory for Everton. As a American who loves Everton more than any team in the world and who opts for Columbus as my fav MLS team I was rooting for Everton. I must give kudos to the ESPN2 commentators (Dellacambra, Winalda, & Chaistain) for showing us equal respect as to Columbus. You never felt that they were pulling for the American team but were respectful to us for coming over to play our MLS team. Vic looked OK but slow and Buckley set him up for a good shot. Wish A.J. & Yobo could have played. The commentators gave Weir a lot of time due to the fact that he went to college in the states and obviously they showered Howard with love but he outshowned Dicky in his run in the box. Tim's our best goalie & hopefully Manure won't call him home & let him help pay off some of the dept that Judas Rooney's transfer is owed to us.
First half was good, 2nd half was so-so. Great to see our lads on American National TV. Simon Davies looks hungry to score....about time!

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy overheard watching the match says: "Pisto..Pisto. DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON THE BALL."

Moyeys says: “It was competitive and the referee let a few challenges go which was good. We played quite well, probably more so in the first half than the second, but it was good. In the last 15–20 their fitness was better than ours and they had more of the game. But overall I was pleased with our players.

Kevin Kilbane played very well for us tonight. In the first half he played as well as he has done for a long time. He was crossing the ball, he was taking people on and it was a good performance. At the moment Victor’s a real handful And he’s got a back problem at the moment which means we are limiting his playing and his training.”

Everton Team News

Everton have AJ, Joey and Faddy out with injuries although they all should be ready for the next game on Saturday. Youngsters Paddy Boyle and Vic Anichebe have slight knocks and may not be risked. Lee Carsley has not made the trip due to personal problems. Sandro Pisto makes his first appearance in the squad following recovery from injury. Roger should get his first full start under his belt.

Everton from: Howard, Wright, Turner, Hibbert, Weir, Stubbs, Lescott, Naysmith, Pistone, Boyle, Osman, Arteta, Davies, Cahill, Neville, Kilbane, Beattie, Anichebe, Buckley.

About The Opposition

Everton expect a hard game tonight. The game can be seen live from midnight tonight via evertontv. The Crew are coached by former Everton winger Robert Warzycha. Fondly known as Bobby The Pole to the fans. Warzycha has seen Columbus beat Leeds United and Fulham at Crew Stadium, as well as drawing with Newcastle United.

Bobby says: "I came over here 10 years ago and there weren't too many Premiership games on television. But now we get to see many, so I have watched Everton plenty of times, especially last year and the season before. When you have played for a team like I did, who do you think I am going to support? Come on! Manchester United? Chelsea? Arsenal? No way. Everton are the only ones for me.

I hope that one day we'll be able to beat these guys. I was lucky to play alongside some great players. Peter Beardsley, Neville Southall, Dave Watson, Mike Newell. Sadly Stuart McCall and Kevin Sheedy had to leave. We had good players but unfortunately were a mid-table team. We were capable of beating anyone but losing to anyone also. They were still great memories.

It was a privilege to work with Howard Kendall. He was a special manager and a good guy. I really enjoyed playing for him. Everton are in pre-season and their legs may be a little bit heavy but I'm sure they have more experience than we do. Then again, our record against international opposition is very good and I'm sure it will be a good game.

Finally we get to play against a proper team. Newcastle have been here in the past, so too have Fulham and Leeds but now Everton. At last! I couldn't understand what the wait was. I just hope our guys can learn from this match. It would be a dream to come back to Goodison. Teams from the USA need to go to England and see the big stadiums and see how football is supposed to be played. It would be a treat for me to go back. Maybe one day."

Bobby The Pole

Moyesy says: "I don’t think they have been beaten by an English side and they have played one or two recently, so we know it will be quite difficult."
