Everton were beaten today, but on another day we could have won the game. The game changed dramatically when Tony Hibbert went off injured to be replaced by Biffa Beattie. This was a wrong decision by Moyes, as he completely changed the way the team played. Beattie never did a thing in the game. The ball passed by him. He never gave AJ any help at all. I would have kept the 5 in midfield and brought on Van de Meyde, Neville could have gone full back with Davies moving into the centre of the midfield with Carsley, allowing Cahill to get forward from deep. We also missed Ossie. He is one of the only players that can skip past players and set chances up. Nobody else in the team did that today, except a few times when Arteta did. The unbeaten run is gone, but hopefully, Hibbert can be fit next week and we can revert to the formation, we have done well with this season. Just don't put Beattie back in. Tim Howard: Played well, except for the penalty he gave away, but made up for it by saving a second penalty. He has instilled some confidence in the defence. Tony Hibbert: Made a great last saving tackle, otherwise Boro would have scored. Unlucky to be taken off injured. Joseph Yobo: Solid in the tackle and heads the ball further than anyone. Made some crucial stops, but is still prone to mistakes, which turn into chances for the opposition. Joleon Lescott: Everton's best player of the season. Great in the air. Reads the game well and always seems to have time on the ball. Unlucky to have a penalty against him. Nuno Valente: Looked a little tired to me after his European exploits during the week. Lee Carsley: Quiet game for Lee. Didn't stamp his authority onto the game. Phil Neville: Like Carsley, very quiet. Had to go full back when Hibbert went off. At fault for the bad clearance that led to their first penalty. Mikel Arteta: Made some great runs early on, beating a few players and putting over a few good crosses, but hasn't reached the heights of last season. Tim Cahill: Thought he wouldn't play due to his globe trotting during the week, but had a great game, scored the goal, could have had a few more. Should of had a penalty when he was clearly pushed. Simon Davies: Had a couple of chances early on, but then faded, until he was substituted. Like most Evertonians, can't see him lasting the season. Andy Johnson: Never stopped working, but got no rewards today. Up against 2 physical defenders, but came back for more. James Beattie: Great chance to make a name for himself, but like Davies never took it. Off the pace. For a big man, never won a clean header, and nothing sticks. |

Moyesy says: "I think there is a case for at least one penalty kick and maybe even two. We are just not getting decisions going our way right now. I don’t like speaking about officials but I am going to have to say something shortly because the softly, softly doesn't seem to be working. We didn't deserve to lose that today and parts of the first half was as good as we have played all season. It was the points we have dropped against Manchester City, Wigan and Newcastle that have disappointed me. Today the players went about their jobs in the right way.” Moyesy on Tim Cahill's Performance: "Tim was outstanding and he deserves a big pat on the back. In my mind I had ruled him out until I saw him at 6pm on Friday and he said he felt great, he’d had plenty of sleep and he was ready. That changed my thinking because all along I didn't think he was going to be available." Tiny says: "I think regardless of all the flying I have done I prepared right in the week and when I came back I was ready. I felt really good in the game and felt confident because of the way we started and played. When you go away and come back people expect to have a shot at you. I felt that if I put everything into the game people would appreciate that. If you make mistakes you get punished. But I always felt we were going to get something from the match. We came here and played really good football. To come back and lose 2-1 was devastating because I felt if we had won it would have kicked us up the table. We could have had a couple of penalties and if those decisions had gone our way it could have been a different game." (15/10/06) |

What did you think of the match? Did Moyesy get his team selection and tactics right? e-mail info@bluekipper.com after the game. * I WAS HAPPY WITH THE GAME THE LADS PLAYED THERE HART OUT. THE REF MADE THE MISTAKES.. WE CAN TAKE A LOSE LIKE THAT WITH EASE. (MICK OLD BLUE) *Just
watched the Boro game in a bar in Palma Nova and wonder why Moyes is
still flogging a dead horse and inflicting Davies on us. At best we
have a glass midfield and to weaken it further by introducing Davies
is fucking criminal. His tactics or should I say antics in the last
minutes cost us the three points there, now his antics have caused us
to drop more points after having a promising start. Unless he bucks
his fucking ideas up we will end up in the bottom half of the table
again. (Chris Simpson) |

Moyesy has probably the biggest selection headache of this season, with injuries and International tiredness taking their toll. Definitely out is Nace, but it is expected that Nuno should shake a slight knock off, and come in at left back, if not Pisto is back in the squad and could return. Hibbo will return to right back after his one game suspension against City. Phil Neville is the biggest doubt, and it looks likely that his hamstring that he picked up on International duty will keep him out. Simple Simon may come into the middle for the Blues after staring for the Welsh in midweek, show us what your made of Simon, here's your chance. Top scorer Andy Johnno should be ok, after his two weeks resting his hamstring knock. Tiny Tim I believe will be given another week to rest after flying round the World to play for the Aussys in their recent Internationals. That may open the door for Jimmy Mac, who if starts makes his 100th Everton appearance, to sit in behind AJ up front, or Moyesy may opt to stick him out wide left. After the frustrations of the Man City draw, I fully expect Biffa to be on the bench, and Moyesy to opt for a 4-5-1 winning formation again. The Blues face a team who failed to net in the League against us last season, although they did dump us out of the Carling Cup. We are unbeaten against the Teesiders in the last five Premiership outings, and with only one League win to their name this season, albeit against Chelski, Everton must fancy their chances of coming away with at least a point. Moyesy says: "We will wait and see with them all. I hope Andy will be okay but we will see how everything is after training. We won't know until we have got all the lads back after international duty. Phil Neville was not due back until today, neither was Tim Cahill. Nuno Valente has a slight groin strain but Andy is really close. Davie Weir and James McFadden came back yesterday from the Ukraine and they are both in contention, like everyone else." We just want to go and play as well as we can. We got a good result there last season and hopefully we can get something similar. The main thing is that we keep showing our good form and that we can keep progressing." Moyesy On Tiny's Late Arrival : "Tim will fly up to the north-east independently to join up with the squad when he has had some rest. From Wednesday night after the game he cannot get on a flight for almost 24 hours. It should be done quicker, it's something Fifa should look at. Australia always want their players as soon as they can to get maximum recovery and preparation for their games, but yet they stay on a day longer in Australia and then don't get them back to us until Friday, midday." (13/10/06) Everton from: Howard, Hibbert, Yobo, Lescott, Valente, Pistone, Arteta, Davies, Cahill, Osman, Carsley, Johnson, Beattie, McFadden, Weir, Van der Meyde, Stubbs, Wright, Anichebe. Lavo's Eleven To Start: Howard, Yobo, Lescott, Valente, Hibbert, Osman, Davies, Carsley, Arteta, McFadden, Johnson

| Lavo's Bet: Can't leave AJ alone, as he is paying for next years holiday for me at the minute. Lump on him at 11/2 for the first goal. Everton's other goal threat me thinks will be Ossie, and my other £5 goes on Little Leon to come up trumps at 16/1 |
