My God what a session that was, and much needed after the lows, highs, lows and ultimate highs of a roller coaster afternoon at Goodison Park on Sunday. Moyesy's had his squad stretched to the absolute limit as he prepared to take on a resurgent Charlton side still scrapping in the hope of staying with the big boys next year. The Boss gave Biffa surely now his last hurrah in an Everton shirt, due to injuries to Vaughny, Big Vic, and with Faddy returning to the bench. Manny Fernandes was again no were to be seen, and again with no real explanation of his injury, the conspiracy theorist's were working overtime again. The Blues started brightly on a boiling hot day on Merseyside (always a good excuse to get lashed) and AJ and Biffa linked up well only to see AJ run wide with the ball after slipping past Diawarra to waste a good oppurtunity early on to open the Blues account. Ossie and Biffa both themselves went close, but you had the feeling early doors, that a goal either way would settle this laboured affair. Charlton had their chances, mostly coming from the boot of Darren Bent, a fine striker indeed, and if Charlton do go down, not a bad shout for a partner to AJ. Half time came, and Changs were definitely on the menu as Sausage lined them up for the rest of us to quaff, and a welcome sight they were as well. Half Time EVERTON 0 Charlton 0 Moyesy had some hard choices to make at half time, as he could see that the Biffa, AJ partnership was not, and probably will never work. In fairness to the Boss he gave the out of form striker ten or so minutes of the second period to redeem himself, but when he could see the game taking the same shape as the first, he replaced his £6m signing with Faddy who had bagged a brace for the rezzies the week before. Love Faddy or hate him, and yes he has his critics, but at time he can do some exceptional things with a football, and if he could bring some solid consistency to his game, we could save ourselves a few bob in the transfer market. Anyhow things did change, a spark came into the Blues play, and Everton turned the screw on the visitors. AJ went close again watching his header go just wide. The moment then came when Goodison went into raptures after good wok from Faddy out wide. His cross landed with AJ whose shot was blocked, but goal machine Joleon Lescott fired home his second goal in a fortnight to give the Blues a deserved lead. Only a few minutes to hang out, as Charlton filed forward looking for an away point. With a minute left on the Goodison clock, we were silenced as that man again Darren Bent fired low in Tim's net to level the scores up. Yes we all felt like leaving, and many did. Our cheers turned to boo's, as we believed we had blew it. Nace thought differently though and broke down the left. When his cross was cleared, the ball fell to Jimmy Mac, who chipped it over the oncoming defender and blasted his volley from eighteen yards out past Scott Carson to give the Blues all the points in injury time. The boo's then turned to cheers as hundred of Blues who had left came running back into their seats. Cue mayhem, and lets be honest what a shallow bunch we all are, but that accusation can be leveled at any football fan in any ground in the country. With manure and Chelski now facing each other in the new Wembley Cup Final, UEFA Cup will be available for the seventh placed club. That is good news for Pompey, Reading and alike, but we are Everton and now that we are in fifth place, we want to stay there. Starman goes to Mikky, though Tony Hibbert and of course match winner Jimmy Mac ran him close. West Ham next week, another club who are struggling, lets put them out of their misery, and strengthen our claims for that fifth place. Full Time: EVERTON 2 Charlton 1

Moyesy says: "We are pleased with the position and I always knew this could be a defining weekend if we won, and other results went our way. We have got four games to go and it is going to be tight. I am really pleased with the players, and the way they kept going and got us three important points. The players that are coming in are doing well. We are having to use them all - the likes of Gary Naysmith, James McFadden who came on, James Beattie hasn't played that often recently, Anderson de Silva got on for a bit as well and they are the ones who we need. The other lads have had such a good season but those players might play a big part in the remaining games." (16/04/07) |
| What did you think of the match? Did Moyesy get his team selection and tactics right? e-mail info@bluekipper.com after the game. * I reckon that Beattie should have been on the bench and faddy to start, faddy had something to prove and would have been hungry from the start wheras Beattie would have been just hoping for a spot of luck or the odd easy penalty to in. Andy, Kumeu, NZ. * A good all round performance. We played Charlton off the park, they defended deep and seemed more than happy with the scoreline still at 0-0, then up popped Joleon and Jimmy Mac, and what a goal ey!!! AJ should of been on the scoresheet though. His last touch let him down in the first half when he went clear through on goal, he would of buried it on another day! Beatts was his consistant self...... consistantly rubbish!! Arteta was superb... AGAIN!! And thank god for Arab TV, 3pm kick off on a sunday????? Load of shat. Europe here we come! COYB. Lee Woods, Widnes |
* Darren Bents volley at goal that ended up in our half going out for a throw in. * The four or five year old kid who at the end of the match ran the full length of the pitch to try and get Tim Howard's gloves, he didn't, but at least he has the recognition of having the youngest ASBO in Merseyside history, allegedly. |

What Do you think The Score Will be? How Will the game pan out? Who Will Score the goals? e-mail info@bluekipper.com before the match. Keep it short and to the point. * Tricky one this, we've been there battling relegation and come out fighting...Charlton on the other hand seem resigned to their fate a goal in each half for the blues AJ in the first (maybe even with a penno), Leon late on. Blue Bill Cannie * The pessimist in me is rearin its head, charlton to outplay us we.ll revert to type play piss poor and lose 0-1 .. glento *
Tough
one, Charlton will battle but don`t they`ll have the stamina for the
fight for 90 minutes......3-1 to the Blues. Fish * Everton 4-0 why? why not? John Brooks |

Biffa may be asked to stand and and be counted. With to two V's out injured Biffa may get his chance. His teammates thinks he's up to it and Moyesy wants him to prove himself on the pitch Tim
Cahill says: "He is going to get his chance hopefully
this week to come in and get his goals to hekp the team. Moyesy says: “James Beattie has had to handle the competition. Vaughany and Victor have come through and made an impact, but I am sure that there are a couple of young players coming up behind them intent on doing just the same thing. Anichebe and Vaughan have put pressure on the players above them like Beattie. “That’s tough, it is the way of the game because they have been doing well. There hasn’t been any complaining from Beattie, he is desperate to be involved and he is a terrific lad to have around the dressing room, but what we want now is for him to be terrific on the pitch.” Moyesy wafer thin squad is being stretched to its limits with five games to go before the end of the season. Tiny, Nuno and Vaughny are all definitely out, but Big Vic could feature in some part of Sundays clash with Charlton. The big forward jarred his knee against Fulham a week ago, and missed the Bolton game, when it was Vaughny's turn to fall foul of injury. Faddy and Nace will return to the squad, and don't be surprised to see the Scottish forward play some part in the match, as Moyesy has made it apparently clear that Biffa will be on his way come the Summer. The big question though is will Manny make the match. He appeared in the public training session at Goodison on Friday, and Moyesy is quietly confident that his Portuguese loan signing will start after his thigh trouble. If he is fit, I predict Moyesy will go 4-5-1, with AJ ploughing his lone furrow up front against a Charlton side who will be more determined than most not to lose. Moyesy
says: We have dealt with the injury situation well because
of the attitude of the players - some have played when they have not
been 100 per cent. But I would be lying if I said we were coping that
well because we do have injuries. We have been without Tim and Manny
for a while now and Tim won't be back this season. With Victor and James
Vaughan out as well at this moment in time you get to the stage where
you say 'we can't keep patching it up and putting them out'. But credit
to the players because they keep going out there and turning it on for
us. They all know what they have got to do and to be fair, they are
all game lads and it is a good group. But you still need the players
to be fit." Everton from: Howard, Wright, Hibbert, Lescott, Stubbs, Naysmith, Valente, Osman, Carsley, Arteta, Neville, de Silva, van der Meyde, McFadden, Fernandes, Beattie, Johnson, Anichebe. | Lavo's Bet: With Vaughny and Tiny out, AJ by the law of averages has to come up trumps soon. 9/2 with betfair.com says he will do just that with the first goal. Also odds on that the kipper boys will get absolutely trollied before and after the Charlton game, as we are off on Monday. My wife is not impressed !! |

Charlton come to Goodison on the crest of a Premiership survival wave as they seek the points to pull further away from the relegation mire. Darren Bent will pose the biggest threat to the Blues, and Joey Yobo for one is relishing the challenge of facing one of the Premierships most consistent marksmen. Everton old boy Marcus Bent is out with a hamstring problem as is Hermann Munster, sorry Hreidarsson with a knee problem. Alan Pardew says: "This is probably our toughest game in some respects. The timing of it, with Everton going for Europe and Charlton being in good form away from home, makes it a really tough game. There is no reason why we can't win at Everton and David Moyes will not be relishing us coming." Joey says: "I have played against him a few times. Most of the Premiership strikers are tough to play against and he is a good player; an England international. I guess the situation they are in doesn't help his performance. We are playing at home and even though he is a top player we will try not to give him a chance." Charlton from: Carson, Young, Diawara, El Karkouri, Bougherra, Thatcher, Thomas, Song, Holland, Zheng, Ambrose, D Bent, Hasselbaink, Rommedahl, Randolph, Lisbie. |
