What a way to see out 2006, with a three nil win over the skunks. Taking nothing away from the Blues, but Newcastle are a poor side. Injuries they have admittedly but their back four is a joke, and Everton took full advantage of it, to round off the calendar year at Goodison with another victory. Moyesy made his intentions clear from the off. Andy van was recalled along with Nuno, and the pair have a good understanding on the left of the park. Big Vic kept his place alongside AJ, and it took only nine minutes for the big centre forward to make his mark on the game. Phil Neville swung in the most exquisite of crosses, and after a keystone cops type scramble in the six yard box, Big Vic poked out a toe to steer the ball over the line.

The real fun was to happen right at the end of the first period, when Ossie foolishly upended Keiron Dyer in the penalty area. No doubt it was a penalty, but for some bizarre reason Turkish tit Emre decided to kick off, and made his team mate Martens wait three minutes to take the spot kick. Emre is a horrible shit at the best of times, but I would be intrigued to know what he said to make Roger, Joey and Tim Howard all react with such venom (think about it). Anyhow from the ensuing spot kick, the only thing in danger was not Tim Howard's goal, but the spectators in the Street End Row Z, quality shot.

In the second period, the Skunks had the upper hand from the off, as Everton invited them on. Against the run of play, Big Vic popped up again, after an Andy Johnson flick on. The Nigerian born forward, turned smartly after his own header crashed off the bar to put the Blues two up. From then on it was all Everton, and moments later, Phil Neville opened up is account for the Blues with a mis hit long range effort. You could see what the goal meant to the Everton Captain, as he raced off to the corner flag mobbed by his team mates.

Three more points, seventh in the table and all is well. City tomorrow, and if we remain unbeaten it will be one of our most fruitful Christmas periods for a long time. There were a few candidates for starman. Harry Hill swept up everything before him, Phil Neville was superb, Roger, well nuff said about him. Nuno gets the nod though, a welcome return for the classiest left back in the country, and I just love him. Well played Everton, keep it up, lets make 2007 another European adventure.

Best Moment Of The Game
Kipper says: Andy Pandy getting the ball on the left wing after 2 minutes and putting over a fantastic cross with pace that had 'just head me' written all over it. Given shit himself, unfortunately Big Dunc, Sharpy or Andy Gray were not playing and Given breathed again.

First Everton Goal

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: I am really satisfied. The players did terrifically well in a good open game. Both sides went out to attack and I am happy we got the goals. We have ended up with a clean sheet again and we had good performances throughout. I thought the difference was that we got about Newcastle and didn't let them settle. They are a good improving side and I thought we tried to get at their young back four and put them under pressure.

They were terrific poachers goals from Victor but he got a rollicking at half-time. I didn't think he had done enough in the first half but he soon shut me up and that is what I want players to do. He has to work as hard even when things are not going his way. Sometimes you need people who can get goals in the six yard box and good on him. He is an 18-year-old who has got two goals in the Premier League there so good on him.

We know it will be tough. We have seven from nine - I wish it had been nine. But we are looking to get another three. 2006 has been good for us. We had a bad 2005 but the end of last season and the majority of this season we have done quite well. You could actually be talking about 2006 having an unbelievable record but for one or two results." (30/12/06)

What The Fans Thought

What did you think of the match?  Did Moyesy get his team selection and tactics right?  e-mail info@bluekipper.com after the game.

* Well I've just finished listening to the game. I didn't see it, but I was so happy to see Everton Beat the MagShites! [I've got a few Newcastle Mates]. So well done to them! I was so pleased for Neville. Plus I'm sure
all Evertonian's are going to be messing themselves when they see Newcastle Miss the penalty. Oh well Magshites try again next year! Steven.

* Although we caught Newcastle with a rather weakened team at least we got the result we wanted, it obvious to all that Shay Given was not fit and it showed, but that's not our problem, we set about them and Victor getting a brace hopefully will shut up the doubters, he is on a learning curb and with a little support from fans can become a fine player. We must go to City New Years day and equal our last away performance at Reading, but we are talking about Everton and here's hoping the real Everton turn up! Norm.

Off The Ball

* The crowd shouting as one to Phil Neville to shoot whenever he got the ball

* The ball boy at the Park End going flying on his arse retrieving the ball, to the amusement of all.

* Joey had Victor's number 28 shorts on!!

* Emre being set upon by Howard, Lescott, Yobo, Johnson and Neville for something he said. By the reaction of the black players it must have been a racist comment.

I think it will be 3-0 to the blues Johnson to bag 2, Anichebe to come off the bench to grab 1, we're due a big win at home. James Hicks

Everton Team News

Moyesy has Phil Neville back in contention after his one game suspension, and I have no doubt that the England International will slip back into the Everton midfield. Simple should get the nod to continue at right back were he has performed well if unspectacularly. Moyesy may use some of his squad, and it would not surprise me if Biffa partnered AJ up front, bringing Big Vic's run of three starts to an end. Against Boro the big forward looked tired, and we have to remember he has only stepped up from the rezzies in the past few weeks, and he will be in need of a rest.

Nuno should get the nod ahead of Nace, who himself is only returning after a long injury lay off, giving Moyesy's back four a with familiar feel to it. Stubbsey is rated 50/50 on making the bench, and great news in the fact that Tiny Tim is back training again, and his return could only be a week or two away.

The skunks were lucky at St. James back in September, when they held the Blues to a draw. Hopefully tomorrow at Goodison, we will have linesman and a ref who can clearly see what the offside rule is all about. We live in hope. If the Blues avoid defeat to the skunks, it will mean that they have only lost three times at Goodison in this calendar year. They have not achieved that feat since Colin Harvey was in charge back in 1990. The fewest in the post-war era are 1969 (1) and 1962 (0). Shit done it again, should not have said that !!

Moyesy says: "Our home form has been reasonably good and how we do here is going to be important between now and the end of the season. Newcastle have got some momentum going and some really good players. We played well against them up there and we should maybe have got more than we did. We would be delighted if we could take six points over the weekend but every game in the Premier League is hard.

I thought we did very well at Newcastle, and we will have to play very well at Goodison if we are going to get the three points. Newcastle have improved from the start of the season, and they have got players back in form and players back from injury so it is probably a much better Newcastle team than we played earlier in the season.

We have got to try and take three points from the next game which I think will be very tough. Hopefully we will play as well as we have been doing and, with a little bit of luck, maybe we will get the three points. We started with three forwards, with James McFadden behind Victor and Andy Johnson. We kept trying to find ways to win the game but it was one of those days where their defenders played very well. I'm not sure if that is the way we will play against Newcastle, but the players who came in - none of them have played badly." (29/12/06)

Lavo's Bet: £10 on Biffa, hear me out now. Me thinks he will get a run out at some point, and he is due a goal, be it a penalty, or in off his arse (no jokes please). You will get 5/2 for him to score at any time against the skunks.
About The Opposition

The skunks are in the midst of a goalkeeping crisis at the moment. Steve Harper is definitely out, and Shay Given is doubtful. Ex Newcastle keeper from a by gone era Pavel Srnicek has been called back to the club and is in line to start if Given does not make it. Nobby Solano is rated 50/50, but Damien Duff and Celestine Babayaro are both out. Not great travellers are Newcastle, so lets hope their away trend continues. Though saying that they've won five of the last seven, and have climbed clear of the relegation zone in the last few weeks.

Skunks from: Given, Srnicek, Krul, Solano, Edgar, Taylor, Ramage, Huntington, Parker, Butt, Emre, Milner, Pattison, Troisi, Gate, Martins, Dyer, Sibierski, Luque, Rossi, Carroll.

Last Season: Everton 1 skunks 0
