After the shock defeat of the Real Bluekipper in the morning, we headed off to Goodison full of trepidation of what lay in store for us. Time and time again when it matters we more often than not fall at the last hurdle when the prize awaiting us is of such importance. Moyesy seemed to have no such worries of what his squad could deliver, so much so he put his faith in two young front men with only a handful of starts between them, and with the combined age of the opposition goalkeeper. AJ was still crocked, Biffa and Faddy were overlooked, so Vaughany and Big Vic were given the job of getting the goals to propel Everton to Europe. Tony Hibbert was made the scapegoat for last weeks surrender to manure as he was dropped to the bench. The midfield had that familiar ring to it, and we were all set. The sun shone, the fans were to put it mildly awesome, but the first half failed to deliver the scintillating football we were all waiting for. It was 50/50 in the first period, Vaughany coming close, and Primus for Pompey should have done better when he rose unchallenged to fire his header over the bar. The half petered out, and you could sense the nervousness of both teams with the potential of a UEFA Cup prize on offer to the winners, so we retired for our half time Changs with plenty to discuss. H-T 0-0 The last half of a reasonably good season at Goodison was underway, and the players started the half with more purpose, determined to claim the points. One man in particular took the game by the scruff of the neck and in the second half especially we witnessed just how much class Mikky Arteta has in those footballing feet of his. It didn't take long for the Blues to go one up, when Vaughany was upended in the box by Glen Johnson. The calmest man on the park stepped up as Kipper and myself dared not look, but the crowds reaction told us that the ball had hit the back of the onion bag. Joey Yobo made it two moments later, when he rose unmarked from another Everton corner as the pressure mounted on Pompey. It was comical watching David James and Glen Johnson in a Grobelaar, McMananam moment after he accused his defensive partner of not doing his job properly. Big Vic came close after great work by Vaughany, and you could feel the tensions lift, as Mikky and Manny took the Michael out of the Pompey midfield. The voices rose in the Stadium, and it was party time. Manny left the action with moments to go, a master stroke by Moyesy, as the Portuguese midfielder was left in no doubt what Goodison Park thought of him. Will we get the chance to see him next season, well only if the price is right, so Manny have a word with your agent and tell him to be sensible. Faddy, Biffa and Nace all entered the fray and it was the latter who made it three with a diving header after a good flick on from Biffa. Party time as the ref blew for another season at Our Grand Old Stadium, and the players did there obligatory lap of honour to thank the faithful for our continued and fantastic support. Only a massive swing of results will now stop us winning the UEFA Cup race, and clubs like Reading may not need as they call it the distraction of Europe, but Clubs like Everton need Europe, as its were we belong, and it will be another step in getting us back were we truly belong, which is among the big boys of English Football. Starman goes to who else but Mikky Arteta, another Everton Legend in the making. F-T 3-0

Moyesy says: Probably the biggest thing today was the support. I thought they acted like a proper football club and the supporters were probably the difference. If you get one goal you can imagine us struggling later on. But I thought the crowd made the difference and pushed us on. We had other chances and I thought in the main we controlled the second half. They played a really big part. I just didn't think we really got a grip of the game (in the first half). We didn't pass it the way we liked and we were counter-attacked on a couple of times. When you don't get a goal it adds to the tension. I saw the West Ham score at half time and I was told halfway through the second half what was happening at Reading. The results have gone for us but we have a great goal difference, our defensive record has been really good and that positive goal difference has made the difference." (06/05/07) |

* Harry Hill at the final whistle booting the ball into the Street End. Problem is it carried on and went over the stands in to Gwladys Street itself. Leon's lad at the end waving to the crowd, he would have stayed there all day if Dad would have let him.

What Do you think The Score Will be? How Will the game pan out? Who Will Score the goals? e-mail info@bluekipper.com before the match. Keep it short and to the point. * I had a dream on holiday last week, Vaughan netted to make it 3-1 to The Blues. Woke up suddenly and told my mate without realising it was a dream that we'd gone 3-1 up. So that's what my moneys on... 3-1 Blues and Vaughany to net third. COME ON YOU BLUES! TOM KLASS. *
I think were gonna go mental after last weeks

Last weeks defeat to manure was Everton's first back to back defeats since mid December in the Premiership. We have not suffered three in a row in the Prem this season, and if we do tomorrow we can kiss goodbye to Europe for another season. Moyesy can welcome back Tim Howard in the nets as Iain Turner will back drop to the bench after his exertions against United last Saturday. Andy Johnson is still rated doubtful, but after the news that he has postponed his operation till the Summer, must give us some indication that the Manager feels he still has some part to play this season. Moyesy may freshen things up at the back a bit, especially after the four goals that we badly conceded last week. Chomping at the bit on the bench is Nuno, and me thinks he will be getting an outing before the season is out. Big Vic we hear is still struggling, but Moyesy still has a squad of twenty to pick from. We have heard it all too much this season about we have to win this one. Its simple WE DO HAVE TO WIN THIS ONE, or we can forget those European jollies next season. C'mon boys let us go on our end of season piss up with a broad smile on our faces. Moyesy says: "We all know the importance of the game. It is a really important game for us because it could help us get into a European place and we have to try and make that happen. It's exactly what we would want. We are in a good position and we now need to try and capitalise on that - in our home game especially. We will be judged by our finish. All the other stuff has passed now and what we do on Saturday and next Sunday will decide where we finish. I think the players have been exceptional from the start, now we need to see if we can finish it off." Manny says: "They give everything in every game they play so I know it is going to be difficult to play against them. Kanu is a great player, one of the best I have played with," continued the Portuguese. His quality is impressive. I have only played against him in training but I believe he is a difficult player to play against. He is a player that makes the team play, and he has tremendous quality. I didn't know about Matty Taylor before I came here but he has scored a lot of goals and they have been impressive." Everton from: Howard, Hibbert, Stubbs, Lescott, Yobo, Naysmith, Valente, Arteta, Carsley, Osman, Fernandes, Neville, Beattie, McFadden, Vaughan, Johnson, Van der Meyde, Turner, De Silva, Vidarsson. Sausage's Eleven To Start: Howard, Hibbert, Lescott, Yobo, Valente, Arteta, Carsley, Fernandes, Neville, Johnson, Vaughan

| Lavo's Bet: Last home game of the season. AJ has probably broke us even this season with his first goal specials, and if he starts tomorrow put your Summer Holiday money on him to come up with the goods. 5/1 for the first goal on Betfair |

Pompey, like the Blues go in search of a European place. Their big doubt is Sol Campbell who is struggling with an Achilles injury, although Pedro Mendes, Dejan Stefanovic, and Matt Taylor are all struggling. The South Coast outfit have not won in the Prem on the road in 2007, and it took a Big Dunc own goal to settle last seasons affair at Goodison. Pompey Boss Hawwy Wedknapp says: "We could take six points out of our last two games and still find it is not enough. But depending on other results, we could take four and still scrape through. But we need something at Everton, that's for sure. We would be delighted with a win there but would probably take the draw." Pompey From: James, Johnson, Primus, Pamarot, Campbell, Traore, Lauren, O'Neil, Davis, Hughes, Kranjcar, Benjani, Kanu, LuaLua, Todorov, Mvuemba, Taylor, Stefanovic, Douala, Ashdown. |
