Jose Mourinho, you are a wanker, but I like you. A week after the Chelsea manager gave his forthright and down right libelous views on AJ's performance, the Everton hit men, who kept a dignified silence all week, answered his critics in the only way he can, with a goal, and a match winning performance of the highest quality. Everton's last trip on the road against Pompey was to put it mildly shite, today's win at Reading was the highlight of the season on the boys travels. Everton were awesome, Leon was terrific, Mikky marvellous, in fact it was one of those performances when one to eleven (well it was in the good old days) were superb to a man. The boys started like house on fire, and before Reading mounted an attack, Everton should have been two up. Leon's header was saved well by the bald eagle Hannehamn, and AJ's shot was also kept out by the big American's feet. Everton's opener on the quarter hour mark, came in what looked like a slow motion replay. Mikky held off a challenge from the Reading defence and squared a lovely ball to Andy Johnson, who struck a firm drive past the American keeper to give the Blues a 1-0 lead, and it was no more than we deserved. Everton were rampant, and AJ, Mikky and Leon were integral to everything the Blues were up to. Leon crashed a shot against the bar, and was also unlucky not to score later when he beat two men in the box, but fired wide under pressure. In fairness, Everton should have been five up by the half, and magnanimously Reading Boss Steve Coppell pointed this fact out in his post match comments. Last weeks heroic performance against Chelsea has obviously served a purpose and proved to the boys that they can live with the best. Reading albeit newly promoted are flying high in the Prem and have took some notable scalps this season. On Saturday they were no match for the Blues, who had injury worries, but the squad came into its own. Nace started his first game in months, Big Vic went down hours before kick off, as did Stubbsey. Jimmy Mac joined Nace and the pair of them did their cause no harm whatsoever with hard working performances. Roger joined in the goal mouth antics but failed to convert a gilt edged chance, but it will come for the cultured defender. In the first half Tim Howard, overworked of late, decided to have 45 minutes off, as his midfield and defence swept up everything that came in their path. 1-0 at the half, Reading could count themselves very lucky indeed. H-T Reading 0 EFC 1 Moyesy's message at half time was no doubt we need a second to kill the game off, Jimmy Mac obliged within minutes of the second period getting underway. AJ this time turned from scorer into creator, when he fed Jimmy in the box, and the Scots forward finished low and hard to give the Blues the cushion of a two nil lead. This then spurred Reading into action, but it would have been a travesty if the Berkshire outfit would have got something out of the game. Tim had to get out of his comfy chair to pull off a fine stop to halt Reading dangerman Kevin Doyle. Everton though still had their moments through Ossie and AJ, but the game was beyond Reading, even though they had the lions share of possession in the second period. With two back to back home games coming up against Boro and The Skunks, it would be a shame if Everton's excellent performance today was undone at home. If we can stay free of injury, we are due to string a run of wins together to get us back into European contention, and on today's performance it would be no more than what we deserve. Lavo got his bet up, and I hope a few followed him, to pay for some Crimmy drinks over the festive period. Starman without doubt goes to AJ, whose goal, and all round performance was a joy to watch. Special mentions to Ossie, and Mikky who on any other given day would merit the starman award. Well played boys, now keep it up on Boxing Day !! F-T Reading 0 EFC 2 |

Moyesy says: "We’ve all been hoping that he’d get his goal and nobody deserves it more because he keeps getting in there. His performances have been good, his work-rate has never been in question and he could have taken a couple of penalty-kicks that we’ve been given during the period. He’s kept going and I thought he played very well today. I thought the defenders were outstanding and the goalkeeper too and I have to give Reading credit because they always make things difficult for any team that comes here,” Moyes declared. Very few teams come here and get results but we deserve it because we’ve been away on occasions this season, the likes of Charlton and Fulham, when we’ve played well but not won the games. But today we got the goals and had to withstand some pressure from Reading at times." Reading
Boss Steve Coppell says: "They deserved to win
and the second goal destroyed us. Andy Johnson was the difference as
far as I'm concerned. Between the teams there wasn't too much daylight
but every time he got on the ball he looked to penetrate." (23/12/06) |

What did you think of the match? Did Moyesy get his team selection and tactics right? e-mail info@bluekipper.com after the game. * I thought that we battled hard against a Reading side in good shape, it was a very important victory to come away with. It was never going to be easy as they have beaten Bolton and Tottenham at home an d held Man United to 1-1 draw. Lets hope we beat the two Geordie teams next. Ellis Nickson |

* Nace wellying the corner flag into oblivion. * AJ when he scored letting the Reading fans know he could hear their boo's, and what a way to answer them ! |

What Do you think The Score Will be? How Will the game pan out? Who Will Score the goals? e-mail info@bluekipper.com before the match. Keep it short and to the point. * Injuries apart I would not think there will be many changes from the squad that were mugged by chelsea last sunday, I would hope that Vaughan, Hughes and Andy Van Der LUCAN will be added. Reading are playing well at home but we have to go their really focused, and get a result, then the two games versus the North East teams must be targeted as Six pointers, nothing less will not do! Come on boys give the fans something to celebrate besides Christmas. Norman Merrill * Somebody is due a spanking off us, but this won’t be it. Hard fought 1-0 to the Blues. Caroline Grundy * Everton to win 1-0 and get the season back on track. AJ to score. Andy Corcoran |

Great news for the Blues as Mikky Arteta is passed fit and will start in the middle tomorrow. Nuno Valente has also traveled after missing out last weekend, and if fully fit, Moyesy will put him in the left back position. This will mean that Joey and Roger pairing up again in the middle with Mister adaptable Phil Neville deputising for Hibbo at right back. Moyesy should stick with two up front in the shape of Big Vic and AJ, after the partnership performed so well in the narrow defeat to Chelski. Tiny, Hibbo, Pisto are all still long term casualties, but Nace should be on the bench to add a bit of strength in depth for the Blues. I believe the unlucky player will be Stubbsey to drop back to the bench, which may be a shame after his fantastic performance last weekend, against the best strikers in the Prem. This is the first time the Blues have met Reading since October 1973, when we triumphed 1-0 with Mick Buckley getting the only goal of the game. Reading have definitely moved on from then, after multi millionaire John Majedski decided to invest a few bob in them. Moyesy says: "I don't think anyone should be surprised by what Reading have done. They've got a good side with a great team ethic and spirit, that's what it looks like from a distance. Look at their cup results from last season when they played Premier teams and didn't even play all their players as they were going for promotion." Roger says: "Reading is a hard place to go. They are very physical and fit. I remember going there last season and it was probably the toughest game we played. Kevin Doyle came from league football in Ireland but he has done very well in the last two seasons and he is tough to play against, he is a tough player." Mikky says: "I'm not sure if everyone is 100 per cent, and we have some players to recover as well, but everything looks better now and the team has done really well and we are disappointed in the way the game finished. We need to keep going and the four games coming up are really important ones in a really important period so we need to look forward." (22/12/06) Everton from: Howard, Wright, Neville, Yobo, Stubbs, Weir, Lescott, Valente, Naysmith, Osman, Carsley, Arteta, Davies, Van der Meyde, McFadden, Anichebe, Beattie, Johnson, Vaughan, Hughes. Lavo's Eleven To Start: Howard, Valente, Lescott, Yobo, Neville, Osman, Arteta, Carsley, Davies, Anichebe, Johnson

| Lavo's Bet: He has not scored for months, and AJ has been in the news this week for all the wrong reasons, admittedly though not his doing. The Everton hit man will strike back with a vengeance and 7/1 for the first goal is to good an opportunity to miss out on. |

Reading have no fresh injury worries ahead of Everton's visit. Striker Dave Kitson (appendix operation) and winger Bobby Convey (knee) remain sidelined but are both nearing comebacks. The Royals have only picked up one point from the last nine available, and lost 2-1 at home last weekend to Mark Hughes Blackburn. Steve Coppell says: "We have two big games coming up against the two best teams in the country away from home. Nobody would relish that combination but in my mind it's a no-lose situation so let's get them out of the way. Everton is very much the focus in the crosshairs at the moment, nobody is looking beyond that, I'll guarantee that." Reading from: Hahnemann, Murty, Sonko, Ingimarsson, Shorey, Little, Sidwell, Harper, Hunt, Doyle, Seol, Lita, Long, Oster, Gunnarsson, Bikey, De La Cruz, Federici. No Corresponding Fixture |
