Points dropped again here. Villa worked hard and were strong and pacey in midfield, which always causes us problems, but never really looked like they’d prove to be too difficult. With the exception of Carsley, the midfield looks lightweight. I’m beginning to worry about what we’ll do without Carsley. He really is vital to us at the moment because we have such a small midfield. Osman is a cracking little footballer, but his lack of physical presence remains a problem. Losing Cahill was an immediate blow, and you start to think that if it was Cahill breaking into the box in the second half, not Cars, he’d have slotted. Although Arteta played well on the left, his dead ball delivery apart, he’s wasted their, this team desperately needs decent wide midfielders, ideally with some pace, so Arteta can play in the middle. All this hype about Johnson and penalties has clearly got to the lad, he seems to have lost his composure, took his first break into the box on for too long when 6 weeks ago he might have shot early and snatched at his one on one when he had time to let it come down a bit. The goals will come for him, he just needs a break. I thought Davies played well, it looks like he might start to come good. He’s made a few mistakes, but when you’ve played as badly as he has for so long, it’s easier for people to remember the mistakes you make. What you have to give credit to the lad for is, he tries his hardest and always wants the ball and to be in the team which is more than I can say for the invisible man Van Der Meyde (when he’s not injured for long enough to get on the park) and that useless lump Beattie. Why does Moyes continue to play Beattie? When he came on, he didn’t chase a thing, didn’t win a single header, messed around with the ball outside our own box, moaned a lot and generally wasn’t involved in the game. Anichebe comes on, wins headers, causes havoc. What does Moyes see in Beattie at Bellefield that I don’t see at Goodison? Beattie must be on his way out of the club now – where this myth comes from that he works hard for the team is beyond me. Lescott is starting to look more and more like player of the season for me, he’s outstanding. Pace, power, reads the game well. It’s only a matter of time before he gets into the England squad surely? Neville is proving to be better as a holding central midfielder, because his distribution going forward is woeful. Also, why does no one ever attack the back post when we go forward, as this is inevitably where all our crosses end up? And surely we have to sign Howard? With the exception of a cross he punched instead catching in the 1st half, he was solid again. We restricted Villa to one real chance, which they buried, regardless of what the stats suggest, the majority of their efforts on goal were from range. All in all, a game we shouldn’t have lost and could easily have won – but that’s Everton, isn’t it? It’s going to be a long winter at this rate!

Moyesy says: "It is worrying me because we are making lots of chances but they aren't going in. We did everything we could to try and score but it wasn't to be. Tim has always been a helper in the goalscoring department and when he went off it made it difficult. Nevertheless, we don't make excuses. We had two or three opportunities. I think that was the difference, they got their goal; we had opportunities but we didn't get our goal." |

We have got to get over the mid-week disaster right now. I haven't felt as low as that for a long time coming out of Goodison. The lads who put the shirt on on Saturday have got the opportunity of making me feel happy. If we win I get to stay out until I fall over. If we don't win I will have to go home and watch the X factor with the missus. Please lads please. Anyway the team news. News has it that Biffa will be have a late fitness test. Even if he is fit I think it's time to give Victor a go from the start in place of the suspended McFadden. The rest of the team should be unchanged from the Asre game. Moyesy says: "We want to get back to winning ways and start talking about football and the important things like that. Maybe we are saving the goals up for tomorrow but it has not been for the want of trying. "Aston Villa have done really well and have had a good start to the season under Martin O'Neill. They are a tough side and he has got them motivated. He is a manager I have got tremendous respect for. It will be a tough game for us." Lee Carsley says:"We've got two big games coming up against Villa and Bolton. It's important we do well, as they are teams who are around us in the table. A couple of good results could really set us up to see where we'll end up this season." Everton from: Howard, Neville, Lescott, Yobo, Valente, Davies, Arteta, Cahill, Carsley, Osman, Johnson, Beattie, Anichebe, Van der Meyde, Wright, Stubbs. Jogger's Eleven To Start: Howard, Valente, Yobo, Lescott, Neville, Arteta, Carsley, Osman, Cahill, Johnson, Anichebe. | Lavo's Bet: After all the shit flying around about AJ I highly recomend putting some cadburys on Andrew to scote the first goal and maybe Victor to score the last goal. Imagine winning 2-0 AJ with the first and Victor with the last. Quids in and Jogger won't have to go home to watch the X Factor. £10 on AJ @ 4/1 AND £10 on Victor @ 5/1 |
