Everton's unbeaten pre season was undone in two mad minutes on the half hour mark as the Blues went down 2-0 to Real Salt Lake, why is there another Salt Lake. Tim Howard was left wanting when he mistimed the flight of a cross to let Carey Talley slam home a crisp header to give the Americans a 1-0 lead. Worse was still to come when a minute later Salt Lake's Robbie Findley chased down a long pass to fire a shot past Tim. Moyesy was less than impressed as the camera's panned onto him, with thoughts no doubt of 'what the f..k,' going through his head.

In fairness Salt Lake virtually played two sides in either half, whilst we made five changes ten minute's into the second period. Surprisingly the Gaffer stuck with Biffa for the full ninety, and he posed Everton's biggest threat with two or three half chances if you could call them that. Everton though were not at the races and the Americans were worthy winners. It was good to see AJ come through 90 minutes, along with new boy Phil Jagielka.

Although he was to blame for the first goal, Tim Howard in the end kept the scoreline down for the Blues, as maybe the jet lag and the heat took its toll.

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: "The boys had a hard session as far as running about tonight. But it wasn't a good performance. A lot of people tonight would tell you the conditions were very warm but we won't use that as an excuse. It is part of the training and defeats will come along but we are disappointed in the nature of tonight's game because we have been doing okay, we have been full of confidence and were brimming after last season. But maybe we needed that, maybe it is a wake-up call to make us realise we are all about hard work and commitment and there wasn't enough of that tonight. The middle third was okay but when we get to the final third at the moment we look as if we are struggling in terms of what direction we are going to go in. But if I am being fair to the players we have not really done a lot of work on that and we will look at in the next few weeks."

Roger says: "I thought they did well and were sharp. I've been told they are bottom of their league, which I find surprising because they fully deserved their victory. The pitch was difficult to be fair and the heat and the altitude didn't help but we did alright even though we got the wrong score." (22/07/07)

Moyesy has a full squad to pick from with the exception of the unfortunate James Vaughan, and Shandy who mysteriously did not travel with the boys (is the price of tickets that dear). The boys will try and keep their unbeaten pre season programme going in a game that kicks off at 3am Sunday morning, so if your like me and you come in from the boozer lashed, you can click on to Everton TV and watch the game live.

Moyesy says: "This should be a beneficial trip for the squad. We have enjoyed our tours to the US in previous pre-seasons and I am sure this will be the same." (21/07/07)
