Moyesy started the day having his FA charge dropped for comments attributed to him after the shite match over the abysmal refereeing that he witnessed that day. By the end of the weekend he will do well to keep his feelings in check after another piss poor performance by the men in black, which undoubtedly cost the Blues maximum points in this entertaining match. AJ had the ball in the back of the net with five or so minutes left on the clock, and after we all went berserk for a minute or so it then struck us that the goal had been disallowed. Why at the time we did not know. Did Vaughny give Friedel a kicking, no. Was AJ offside when he put the ball in the net, no again. After watching MOTD in a drunken haze it was cleared up for me, and is still as clear as mud, first phase, second phase, its all me arse, to me its just officials trying to hog the limelight, and once again they did it in an Everton game that cost us points. Prior to all the controversy, Moyesy once again shuffled his ever growing squad around. Nuno got the bench treatment which was unlucky on him, after his blinder against Spurs on Wednesday. Ossie passed his fitness test, as did Tiny, and the 4-5-1 once again came into play. Everton were on fire, and with the estimated 10,000 travelling fans it felt like Goodison have moved 30 odd miles down the road. AJ as the lone striker was given a helping hand by Tiny, Mikky and Manny. Ossie went close early on, as did Mikky whose low drive was beaten away by Friedel The Jag watched his header cleared of the line, Manny hit the bar with a free kick in the second period, and Ossie went close again, yes it was all Everton. I can only remember one meaningful save Tim Howard had to make, Blackburn had half a shout for a penalty when McCarthy went down, but Andy Johnson had more of a claim when he was took hip high in the area. Not surprisingly though Wiley the piss poor excuse of a ref turned it away. It all got quite tasty at the end when Reid went in hard on Arteta, handbags at ten paces ensued, but it was more frustration at seeing three points snatched from us at the death from another incompetent set of officials. If in the scheme of things come May, the Blues are pipped by the odd point, we more than most will have sufficient argument that where officials are concerned we have not had the rub of the green. I wonder if the Alan Wiley's or the Mark Clattenburg's of this world will sleep easy knowing that they could have cost the Blues a Champions League place, and a potential windfall of £30m, probably not. Starman, and there are a few in the mix again. Manny looked lively, Mikky played well, Roger and The Jag towers of strength as ever, but AJ gets the nod, for his energy, his closing down, and the way he took what should have been the winning goal. Full Time: Blackburn 0 Blues 0

Moyesy says: It was a tight game - you can’t expect to come to Blackburn and dominate the game. I thought we played well and shaded the opportunities so from that point of view I am disappointed we did not take all three points. I have seen the replay. I take the linesman at his word when he said there was only one player but when James Vaughan makes the tackle he falls and then scoops the pass to Andy Johnson. There is at least two behind the ball – I think there was three maybe four in line so it would mean it is a goal. I don’t want to sound like a whinger – I don’t want to talk about referees but I just hope those two points don’t come to cost us. For us at Everton it is really important that we keep pushing for those places. I think the boys at the back have been immense but today we needed that goal to get us through and got us all three points. We are delighted with the clean sheet and there is still Joseph Yobo to come back." Blackburn Boss Mark Hughes says: "David will probably be aggrieved with the goal that was disallowed. It's very difficult. The first part of the play, Andy Johnson obviously went back from an offside position and wasn't active, then he became active, I just don't know. I think Fifa need to have a look at it to make it clear cut for everyone, including the officials. In days gone by when I was playing there was no confusion, you were either onside or offside." Half time, Vic and Vaughny were warming up and the blackburn fans were
throwing snowballs at them, so Big Vic threw one back at them, much
to the delight of the everton fans |

It's a shame that the Blackburn game will be remembered not for the excellent way in which the team played in the 2nd half, but for the gross incompetence of the officials There is one phrase in football that I have learned over the years doesn’t apply to Everton, and that’s the one we keep hearing – decisions even themselves out over a season. How then decisions even themselves out over a season? We have played 25 League games this season and haven’t had a penalty, yet I can think of 3 absolute nailed on penalties that we didn’t get – AJ v Blackburn and Spurs and Lescott in the last minute of the derby. AJ’s disallowed goal v Blackburn is another, Arteta’s red card v Arsenal and the twice were opponents have escaped red cards against us, and then pop up later in the game with a big involvement. Do decisions really even themselves out? – I think not. Back to today then, and after a fairly unexciting 1st half, the game exploded into life after the break with first Blackburn, and then Manny Fernandes having a good chance. To be fair, it was a good save by Freidel, but maybe with the time that he had, he should have buried it. We then hit the post from a Manny free kick, saw another from Arteta go close (when will Baines get to blast one), and the best chance may have fallen to Osman, who headed wide when well placed. The 25 minute spell after half time was one of the best spells of our season, as Blackburn were pegged back into the own half. A couple of very good Neville crosses caused panic in the home defence, and a special tribute here to AJ who was outstanding all afternoon. I really feel that this kind of game is where we see him at his best as we counter attack, and the chest control in the centre circle that led to the Manny Free kick was superb. Once again the central defenders were excellent, Arteta saw more of the ball, AJ led the line well and Vaughan was a nuisance when he came on. Cahill was quiet today and I thought Ossie struggled out wide, while the inclusion of Baines at Valente’s expense was a bit of a surprise. Overall though the team played really well and would have deserved the 3 points had it not been for the officials. How they could not give a penalty for the blatant foul on Johnson, and then disallow a goal for offside when there are 3 defenders between AJ and the goal is beyond me. The refusal to yellow card Dunn for a blatant hand ball in front of the referee also remains a mystery, while I suppose Arteta could have walked for the incident towards the end. When will referees ever admit to getting things wrong, and when will it affect anyone other than us? However, on a positive note, that’s another point on the board, against a team that were previously unbeaten in 6, another clean sheet (just 1 goal conceded now in 5), and 5 games without defeat in the League. Results elsewhere may not have gone our way, but the last time we were so blatantly robbed, we went on a long unbeaten run, and there’s no reason why another can’t start next Saturday. An estimated 12,000 fans will travel to Ewood Park hopefully to cheer the Blues onto victory. Moyesy has got Hibbo and Tiny back in his squad to face Blackburn, but Tiny is facing a late fitness test with his hamstring problem. If fit he should join a five man Everton midfield that Moyesy tends to deploy when on his travels. Ossie is another doubt after missing the midweek draw against Spurs, and he also will face a fitness test on his ankle injury. Peanuts won't be home in time, and he will no doubt be allowed a few days rest after his African Nations exertions when back. The Yak and Joey are still away at the African Tournament, and new boy Anthony Gardener is not been considered as he has a slight knock. The Blues go in search of their sixth unbeaten Premiership match, and their third consecutive away win after victories at Wigan and Boro. Everton are two points clear in the fourth Champions League spot from rivals City and Villa. We are currently one point behind our total at this stage of the 2004/05 season, when we last finished in the top four, but go up against a Blackburn side who have not lost home or away since Christmas. Sausage's XI To Start: Howard, Hibbert, Lescott, Jagielka, Valente, Neville, Carsley, Arteta, Osman, Cahill, Johnson Everton from: Howard, Wessels, Hibbert, Lescott, Baines, Jagielka, Valente, Neville, Carsley, Arteta, Fernandes, Osman, Johnson, Cahill, Anichebe, Vaughan

Moyesy says: "Mark Hughes has done a really good job at Blackburn. I have got a lot of respect for Blackburn and the way they play – they play good football and have got a blend of good players and toughness. They have been pushing hard to get near the top and they are doing it again this season. They are definitely contenders for a Uefa Cup place and they have been over the last few years. The games against Blackburn have been really hard. We have tended to do quite well over there (Ewood Park) and they have done quite well at Goodison over the last few years so hopefully that is the way it continues." Mark Hughes says: "Everton is a key game for us. We had an important game last week against Villa who are in and around us as well. We were able to get a good performance in and take points off them, so that’s something we need to do against Everton as well. Everton are playing well at the moment. They are rock solid defensively, as most David Moyes teams are, and it will be difficult.” (01/02/08) Blackburn
