Holy Days! A lot is said about Moyesy being a bit of a ditherer, but today he made some bold decisions and thankfully they all worked out well. Who would have thought that Ossie, Vic and Faddy - our goalscorers this season - would be getting splinters in their arses on the bench? They were lucky Tony Hibbert, Stubbsey and Nuno Valente never even made the 16. All fixtures last season. When Cahill and Vaughan are back, we may have a squad that's going places. In from the start were record signing Yakubu, who had a great first half. Poor Cid, the Bolton defender, didn't know what day it was with AJ's pace and The Yak's power and was replaced at half-time. Stevie Pienaar, a great little footballer, even smaller than Ossie, played his part and together with Phil Jagielka, (who is a fit fucker. No not in that sense! He'll run all day I mean) combined to lay on the ball for AJ to lay it on the plate for The Yak to score the first goal. The Jag will score some goals for Everton. He has the confidence to get forward, something Tony Hibbert has never mastered, but it is something all full backs in successful teams do. Bainsey is another who loves to get forward. Everton started well and got the goal. Should have capitalised on it, but Bolton came back and put us under pressure and only some great defending by Yobo, Carsley, Lescott and Neville kept the trotters out. There best chance was when Alonso hit the bar with Howard beaten. Half-Time: Notlob 0 EVERTON 1 Bolton did get their goal just after half time when a cross was partly cleared and Anelka hit a crisp volley home. The game went from end to end with both teams having chances. Everton brought on Osman for Pienaar, Gravesen for Carsley, Anichebe for Yakubu in the second half. Pienaar and Yakubu were tired. Gravesen and Osman got straight into the game and made some telling passes. It's great to have players who can come on and make an impact from the bench. Everton should have made sure of the points when some great play by Gravesen left Arteta to do his magic and he pulled the ball back to Ossie who smashed the ball over the bar. We thought our chance had gone. We kept plugging away and finally got our reward. A Gravesen shot was pushed away for a corner. He ran across to take it fist clenched to the fans. Over came the cross and Roger rose like a latter day Dunc and in it went. 89 MINUTES. Get in! We all went bonkers. The game was ours. The singing continued long after the final whistle had gone. Some
great performances for half a game by Yakubu, Pienaar, Osman and Gravesen.
Johnson never stopped and it won't be long before he's off the mark.
Baines, Jagielka, Yobo, Neville did well, but Roger gets the nod,
as he was outstanding and scored to help my fantasy football team
move up the table. Joint top of the Premiership. For the first time
in a long time I think we can stay in the mix with the big boys, Arse,
Chelski and Manure. |

Match Report By Uncle Albert Everton held most of the possession and created the better chances. A victory is nothing more than deserved. Despite the possession, the fans seem to get frustrated when we play ‘keep ball’. This keep ball gave us the second goal in the dying moments of the game. Without Hibbert we looked more solid at the back than previous outings this season and considerably more so when the skipper was sent into the RB berth in the 2nd half. AJ’s frustration will be running higher after seeing The Yak slam home his first. The tireless running and pressure are what makes him the striker we need. There appears to be a finisher to partner him. Your goals will come AJ. A clever ball from Stevie P released the tireless AJ to provide The Yak after only 10 minutes. Les Battersby was never going to give a pen for hand ball in the 2nd half and, had Anelka not punished us for not clearing our lines, we wouldn’t have cared. A goal was needed to give the Blues the points we deserved. Cue Tommy G. Possession and patience from the boys in blue paved the way to a series of chances. The final fling into the box from a Tommy G corner coolly nodded in by the formidable Roger at the far stick. Just deserves for a side in the ascendance. Top of the league and nothing more than deserved. Spirit of the Blues IF ANY EVERTON FAN WANTS TO WRITE A REPORT OF ANY OF THIS SEASON'S GAMES, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DO SO. Moyesy says: "For the first time I knew there were people behind me I could bring on and change the game from the bench. We haven't had that at Everton an awful lot, but today I was able to look around and see if we could alter the game slightly. We had forwards and midfielders on the bench, people who could create teams, and in the end Thomas came on and he was a calming influence. He was the big difference. He brought a calmness to us and made us play better. He's lacking a bit of fitness, but he made some killer passes that helped us win the game. It was great for Yakubu to get off the mark, but huge credit must go to Andy Johnson - that was a real strike partnership goal." |

Everton make the short trip to notloB tomorrow, with a ruck of fire power at their disposal. New boy The Yak joins AJ, Big Vic, and Jimmy Mac in the Everton squad. I think Moyesy will find it hard to drop Jimmy Mac after the Scot has starred in the last few games at Reading and Blackburn. He may however deploy Faddy out wide to fire in the bullets for The Yak and AJ. Tommy Grav makes the squad after his signing on Thursday, but me thinks he will be on a strong bench with The Jag, Nuno, Pinny and alike. Stubbsey is said to be carrying a knock, and with that in mind Roger should partner Joey in the heart of the defence, with Leighton and Hibbo occupying the full back slots. Harry Hill is also a slight doubt and Moyesy will have The Jag, and even The Grav on standby, but the Irish midfielder should come through. If Jimmy and Joey Yobo do start they will be making their 100th and 150th Premiership appearances all with the Blues. You have to go back to Pompey on May 5th, for the last time we kept a clean sheet and we have managed just one in 12 attempts, something Moyesy will want to improve on. Moyesy On The Yak: "We will get him settled in and hopefully turn him into a good Everton player. He will be involved in the 16 in some capacity at Bolton, but I have not decided exactly how yet. I am not sure how Alan Stubbs and Lee Carsley are going to be but they are my only fresh doubts." (31/08/07) Lavo's XI To Start: Howard, Hibbert, Yobo, Lescott, Baines, McFadden, Carsley, Neville, Arteta, Yakuba, Johnson Everton from: Howard, Ruddy, Wessels, Hibbert, Neville, Jagielka, Yobo, Lescott, Stubbs, Baines, Valente, Arteta, Osman, Carsley, Gravesen, Pienaar, McFadden, Johnson, Anichebe, Yakubu.
