Nothing can last forever, and the Blues unbeaten run came to an end, but it was ever so close to continuing. A moment of madness from the normally reliable Peanuts two minutes from the end of the match cost the Blues their fourteenth unbeaten game in a row, but more importantly a point towards Champions League qualification. What I hear you cry, Champions League, well why not. We did it two seasons ago with a inferior squad to what we have at our disposal today, and by the look on Ronaldo, Sir Alex and co's faces at the end of the game, they knew the were happy to get maximum points from the form team in the Premiership.

Moyesy brought back The Yak, Tiny, Phil Neville and Joey from their week of rest, but surprisingly Mikky Arteta failed a fitness test when he went down with a bout of the two bob bits. Howard Webb our Ref for the day made himself the centre of attention with four bookings in the first fifteen minutes. It was nice to see old boy Wayne run all of twenty feet to tell the aforementioned Mr. Webb to book his old mucka' Tony Hibbert when he tackled Patricia Evra, as the foreign faggot (Radio One may ban it, but we won't) made a right meal of a superb tackle. I also wonder if Wayney Boy joined in the singing when his beloved manure faithful were singing, that old Christmas chestnut, 'Feed the Scousers At Christmas Time'. No doubt he will carry the singing on in Alderley Edge tonight, but then again he can't as Sir Alex has banned all Yuletide celebrations after the manure players decided on a small quiet affair last week, never mind Wayne !!

Ronaldo, Rooneys new mate, and big World Cup mucka' opened the scoring with a belting drive after twenty minutes. The Blues defence failed to close him down, and love him or loathe him you cannot give the Portuguese winker that amount of space, sorry I meant wanker then. Their lead however lasted all of five minutes when Peanuts floated in a lovely centre that Tiny Tim lapped up beating two defenders to the punch to bury his header in the proverbial onion bag.

United were getting frustrated, Everton admittedly on the back foot were sitting deep. Yak was a spectator up front as AJ who was out on the right did most of the front running. The Blues passing was crisp and neat, and as the game went on, you sensed a commendable point, until Giggs who had had a quiet afternoon broke into the box. Peanuts inexplicably stuck a foot out thinking he was out of the eye line of the Ref. Indeed he was but the linesman was right behind him, and gave the dreaded flag across the chest signal to which Howard Webb pointed to the spot. Ronaldo did the rest, and got his side out of jail from the penalty spot, and the looks on the Blues fans around me told me how disappointed we all were.

Two home games between now and the end of 2007, we lie sixth in the Prem, we are in our first Semi Final of the New Millennium, in Europe after Christmas for the first time since 1985, so as I had a few after the game, I thought all is not bad. In fact its still brilliant to be a Blue, and lets get behind the boys against notloB and the Arse in the next few days, and that Champions League dream can yet become a reality, as its only a Fat Spanish Waiter between us and fourth.

Starman goes to Joey. The Jag and Roger both done well, as did Tiny on his return, but Joey for me just gets the nod. COYB, FTRS.

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: "Obviously we have taken no points but I think the players should come off feeling like winners. They have performed really well. I don't think you are going to come to Old Trafford and dominate possession. They are the champions and one of the top teams in Europe but we are showing how far we have come because we are beginning to get moments in games where we are doing much better.

We have come here with maybe not the strongest side we would have had and we have to find different ways of playing. The players did a great job, they really did - tremendous. I thought that the team that has been doing so well could come here and do well and we did, even without Mikel. Our standards are rising and because of that we feel more confident in places like this.

This is the benchmark if we want to achieve things and we came close today. We were never out of the game, we were always in it and but for a poor decision from a player we could have had a point."

Moyesy on Peanuts Penalty Give Away: "The fact it was a penalty and it was late on means it hurts more but that happens and I don't think I left the field feeling like a loser. I can't hide the fact it was a poor decision by Steven Pienaar in the box that led to the penalty. We have told him that but in the same breath I had to tell him how well he has played for us today and also how well in the last few months.

That mistake cost us, otherwise we would be walking away with a hard-earned point. The back boys defended brilliantly well throughout. We had to wait for our moments and so for the team to lose the game is hard. We know why, that is football but I don't feel we have come away as losers. We have come away with an awful lot good about our game and we could actually grow in confidence because of the way we played." (23/12/07)

Off The Ball

* Tiny scores and boxes the corner flag as normal. The Stretford End tell him what they think of him. As the teams leave at half time, Tiny gives a second rendition to tell them what he thinks of them. Well played Tiny.

Everton Team News

Well then isn't it great being a Blue at the moment. We are on our best run since our Championship wining season back in 1984-85, and although we can only dream of winning the title, we did finish the season at Wembley and with a European trophy in the cabinet. Moyesy was in the position were he could leave Tiny, Mikky, Tim Howard, The Yak and Joey all behind for the midweek win in Alkmaar, and everyone of those players will start tomorrow. That is unfortunate on those who performed so well in Holland, but in the day of the squad mentality, they will be all be utilised as the Blues continue to battle on four fronts, and you have to go back twenty two years to when we could last say that after Christmas.

Moyesy should go with five in the middle again, with Tiny supporting The Yak up front. Who replaces Ossie is the question though, and with the Grav performing well in Holland, we may yet still our Danish talisman have his Everton swan song in the next few weeks. Tim Howard will replace Kepler, and Joey will come back into the middle, with Phil Neville filing a full back berth. You have to go back to 1992 for the Blues last top flight victory at Old Trafford, when goals from Polish Bob, Peter Beardsley and Maurice Johnston gave the Blues a memorable victory in United's Title winning season. Lets hope history repeats itself, United win the title, and we take the points at Old Trafford, I'll have a bit of that.

Mikky says: "We are on a very good run and must try to enjoy it. Old Trafford is my favourite away ground, they are always very hard games but we'll try to get something from it. I love Cristiano Ronaldo, his development has been unbelievable. He handles pressure so well and is improving all the time."

Lavo's Best Bet

* The Yak will be back leading the line, and at 9/1 for the first goal, he is worth taking a punt on. United are the overwhelming favourites, but the Blues at 7/1 for the win, or even better 11/4 for the draw are worth boosting your Christmas stocking with.

About The Opposition

Its been a tough week for United after their Christmas Party hit the headlines for the wrong reasons. Sir Alex being Sir Alex though will have his Champions up for this, as he always does, and he can expect Rio Ferdinand, Carlos Tevez and Wes Brown all to shake off minor knocks. Ex Blue Wayne Rooney will lead the line, but with the Blues on top form we must go into the match full of confidence.

Moyesy who looks up to Sir Alex will be pleased to hear the United Boss speaking so warmly about him, and especially his work ethic, which as Blues we hope at last is paying dividends.

Sir Alex says: "David has put a good young squad together and put them on long-term contracts to keep them all together. That shows good planning and good vision. I admire his work ethic. He's serious about the game and he's committed and I like that in young people. And he has a lot of that Scottish ethic about him. Even as a young kid he was always a down-to-earth footballer. I know his family well – his father was in charge of one of the teams I used to play for as a kid. He's been brought up the right way and he's never changed in his attitude to life, which is great to see."

Sir Alex on His Ex Charges: "Phil ( Neville) got a fantastic ovation when he first came back here and Tim (Howard) was well liked and well respected here. They'll get a good welcome but let's hope that's all they get on Sunday! They're a team in form and they'll be a handful for us. On the other hand, our own form has been excellent and hopefully we'll get the result we want."

United From: Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Brown, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Pique, Evra, Fletcher, Ronaldo, Nani, Carrick, Anderson, Hargreaves, Park, Giggs, Saha, Rooney, Tevez.
