However we dress it up, Europe will have a big impact on our Premiership season, as Newcastle took advantage of some weary legs, and some shocking defending by the Blues to take all the points. After the highs of Thursday and the great win in the Ukraine, the Blues came back to earth with the proverbial bump as they simply gifted the skunks victory in the North East. Moyesy shuffled his meager pack, and as expected the ageing legs of Stubbsey were given a blow, The Yak and Jag rightly sat proceedings out. The back four looked to have more of a settled feel about it, with a left back playing left back, and a right back playing right back, but what happened in the next ninety told a totally different story. No doubt it will be hard, as even experienced Euro campaigners like manure in the past have found it hard to win on the back of their midweek European exploits. Of course the length of our journeys back from Ukraine have not helped, and maybe the staff can next time look at not travelling through the night, as this certainly would not have helped the players preparations for the match. Putting all this to one side, it did not excuse the child like defending that cost us all three goals. Butt started the damage with an exquisite chip after the normally reliable Roger tamely headed the ball to his feet, and fifty odd thousand Geordies sensed blood. The Blues battled gamely on, and at times showed the football that brought us UEFA Cup football in the first place. Big Vic led the line well, and had one cleared off the line, after a long throw form Captain Phil. Fresh legs were still needed and they came in the shape of returning AJ at half time. Within minutes of his arrival he bundled the ball over the skunks line to pull Everton level, and at that stage of the match, it was no more than we deserved. The skunks naturally countered, and Everton had to call on Tim Howard more than once to spare their blushes. Evertonians two favourite players now entered the fray, in Emre and Owen, and you just knew it was coming. From a game that had draw written all over it we now found ourselves 3-1 down after more comical defending by the boys in Blue. Yakubu was brought on as an after thought after Big Vic had run his socks off, and in the dying seconds Mikky pulled one back when his deflected cross beat Given at his far post. Too little to late, but with the International break now upon us, at least the majority of Everton's squad can rest their weary legs ahead of the Merseyside Derby in two weeks. Starman goes to Big Vic, not that he was head and shoulders above his team mates, but just for the fact that he never gives up. Mr. Yak please take note !! Full Time Newcastle 3 EVERTON 2

Moyesy says: "I think we looked as if we did enough. Emre’s goal was the decisive goal. And we should have defended it better and cleared it better. I think we gave Newcastle too many opportunities in the first-half but we played much better in the second and took the game to them. The players have given everything and I could have asked for more." (08/10/07) |

What did you think of the match? Did Moyesy get his team selection and tactics right? e-mail info@bluekipper.com after the game. * |
| * I'd Say 2-0 With goals from Big Vic and Jimmy Mac. Mike Hennessy * Think we'll be lucky to get a draw, especially after Europe. 2-1 for The Geordies. Blue Peter |

Having seen the players land at John Lennon Airport in the early hours of Friday morning, it is obvious that Moyesy will be shuffling his pack as there was some tired lad's there. Problem is though with Tiny, The Grav, Vaughny and alike still not fit, Moyesy does not have a lot to play with. AJ is still 50/50, but if he does pass fit, his legs will be a lot stronger than that of his team mates. Expect Big Vic to start from the off in place of the Yak, just on merit alone, he tried, he scored, to me he plays. Leighton Baines and Hibbo should slot back into their full back places, with maybe Stubbsey making way for Roger to return to the middle of defence. In the middle Moyesy does not have many options, but he has the fresh legs of Harry Hill, who will indeed replace Phil Jagielka. Faddy will be a definite starter up front, as Moyesy looks for a fourth win on the bounce against the Skunks who hold an unbeaten home record for this season. Moyesy says: "The mood has been terrific. We had quite a long journey back but the trip went well and hopefully we can now get the players in the right condition to play at Newcastle. We are confident, we won a really difficult game on Thursday and now we move on." Michael Owen has given Sam Allardyce and England a boost by making the Skunks squad ahead of our clash on Sunday. Defender Claudio Cacapa has shaken off a groin problem, but Joey Barton (metatarsal) will have to wait despite his return to action for the reserves. Big Sam says: "If Michael Owen plays on Sunday, then obviously he is fit for England. But I must make sure if I am going to select him, he is 100% able to do what I want him to do. We have to bear in mind his previous, and his recent previous has not been too good." (06/10/07) Skunks
