Bench: Ruddy, Johnson, O'Kane for Baxter, Agard for Jutkiewicz, Sinnott, Molyneux for JP Kissock.

Referee:

Everton started their 1st pre-season game with just 3 players who are likely to start when Everton open up their premiership programme at home to Blackburn in just over a months time. Those players being Jagielka, Lescott and Neville. Osman was missing with a slight leg injury, but will be back training next week. Sion looked the sharper of the two teams, not surprisingly as they are due to start their league programme next week, having played 7 friendlies already. Although neither side threatened to score. Passes went astray in the sunshine.

John Irving at right back didn't look out of place with Internationals Jagielka, Lescott and Valente. He got stuck in and passed the ball well. He could take a leaf out of Nuno's book and get forward and throw a few delightful crosses in. Turns in goal didn't look confident. In midfield youngsters Kissock, Baxter and Rodwell all seem to be comfortable on the ball, although they never penetrated the Sion defence. Luca played up front on his own. He tried hard to hold the ball up, but was isolated most of the time.

HALF TIME FC Sion 0 EVERTON 0

Kieran Agard replaced Luca at the break and was a different type of player. Very sharp with a good turn of speed, but again seemed isolated up front.

One interesting stat is that Shandy played the full 90 minutes. He showed some great touches and knocked some intelligent balls through. He was even putting a shift in backtracking. Although like most of the team faded near the end of the game.

O'Kane came on for Jose Baxter and did well. One great piece of play saw him link up with Agard to set up a chance foe Van de Meyde, which was blocked. Sion had a shot by Reset half blocked by Irving and the ball hit the bar.

Sion scored the only goal of the game with a move which opened up Everton with a series of one twos and some good running off the ball, which saw Cretterand giving Turns no chance.

Give the youngsters credit, as they came back to force a few chances of their own. Valente went on a run down the left and crossed to Kieran Agard, who glanced a header wide, when it looked easier to score. Skipper Neville had a shot stopped, but Van der Meyde couldn't get the rebound.

So we are off and running, but we need the absent and unsigned players in as soon as. The senior players all did well, but John Irving took the eye as MoM.

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: "It was a good run out when you consider what we've got available to us. The boys did really well and we're pleased because we've worked them really hard this week up in the mountains. And you must remember that this was their seventh pre-season game and it was our first. A lot of the young boys got a taste and they realized that if they're going to play for Everton then this is the level they've got to live up to. We've had a really good week, the weather's been great and the training facilities have been first class, so we're pleased and we're looking forward to getting a few seniors back in the squad over the coming weeks."

* I think it will be a drab 1-1 draw, but one of the youngsters will shine. Philly

* 2-0 for Everton. Goals from Lescott & Osman. Porky
