Everton v Man U is always a big game however, today it was even more important than normal. Everton's current lack of form, especially at Goodison, meant Man U were the clear favourites today. The nervousness of the fans could be felt across the ground but the usual electrifying atmosphere was produced as our brave lads marched into battle. The first half saw an on-form Manchester United playing very confidently and weaving through the Everton team. Moyes chose to take a risk in playing Pienaar and Arteta very wide whilst Osman and Fellaini were left in the centre of the field. It allowed us to get more runs in but Giggs took full advantage of this, often troubling the Everton defence. Fellaini had a chance early on that was just wide thanks to some determined United defending.

Fletcher bagged the 1st goal after 22 minutes and the Goodison faithful couldn't help but wonder if this was to be another mournful home loss. Rooney, Giggs and Ronaldo bombarded the Everton defence for the rest of the half with Osman clearing off the line from Vidic at one point. Howard made a host of saves to deny his former team a greater lead. The teams went in at half time with United bemoaning their missed chances and Everton grateful they were only one nil down.

Half Time: EVERTON 0 Man Utd 1

Moyes must have given a Braveheart-like speech at half time as the blues came out a different side. Constantly breaking and playing a counter attacking game saw United's defence put under considerable pressure. United also broke often but struggled to get through a resilient Everton defence that put on the type of performance that got us 5th place last year. Jagielka was booked on 51 minutes for a foul on Berbatov but the foul of the game had to be Neville to his former team mate Ronaldo, thankfully Wiley only distributed yellow.

Having been a constant threat throughout the game, Fellaini fired a header into the bottom corner of the United goal on the 63rd minute. The Belgians goal revitalised the crowd and suddenly we had a game on our hands again. Minutes later The Yak caught Ferdinand out and was denied a goal as a result of a brilliant Van Der Sar save. The ball kept going from one end to the other as both teams battled for all 3 points. Rooney was denied his 100th goal as his lack of discipline with bad tackles and fan taunting forced Fergie to take him off. Anderson, Nani and Teves were all brought on as the reds fought for the victory. Ronaldo missed a golden opportunity late in the game as his shot went wide. Berbatov was all but free but the Belgian ace, Fellaini, stopped his run and earned himself a yellow card. 4 Minutes of added time saw United go all out to steal a victory they didn't deserve. Everton's defended resolutely and earned themselves a well deserved point. If ever Everton needed something to spur them on then this result was just what they could have hoped for. With Fulham next week, Moyes will be looking to go for the win and once again ascend the heights of the Premier League Table.

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: ""I was actually a bit disappointed we didn't win the game in the second half, but drawing with Manchester United at the present time is a good result for us. It was a lot better by us, especially in the second half. It was a lot more like us and at least you could see more determination. A lot of effort went into it and what comes from that at times is good play and good goals, so I'm really pleased by the second half.

"We had set up in a way to make it as difficult as possible for them to play against us. You can't forget how well they have been playing. They beat Celtic in midweek 3-0 and they were fantastic. They have been doing that to most teams in recent games so the last thing I wanted was for us to go a goal down or more than a goal down because it was going to be very difficult to get back in it.

"What happened (in the second half) was that we put them under pressure and we closed down. It is hard to do that for 90 minutes against Manchester United because they will eventually pick you off. There was a tennis game at one spell with lots of counter-attacking football so it made for an entertaining game for the supporters especially.

"Sometimes just working hard, which lifts the crowd, means that together you can bring back the sort of atmosphere we've had in the past at Goodison. It would have been a travesty if we hadn't got a point out of it because we earned that in the end."

Report From Toronto

Heading out at 6am for a 40km drive in a dull, wet, dark Toronto suburb, this is what a True Blue does to see the game. Read on Wayne..............

Meeting in scallywags in downtown Toronto and ceremoniously handing over the gift of my cherished BK passport holder to Sid, President of the Toronto Toffees, he told me there was not much to write home about in the first half. Howard was the saviour with three saves in a minute. Diving to his left to save from Ronaldo, rebounding Vidic's header and then an outstanding stop from Giggs as United controlled the game with almost embarrassing ease. Roll on half time and a chance to meet the Toronto Toffees: Sid, Ali,Howie, Steve and Jerry. Jerry used to play football with Dave Hickson in Ellesmere Port on a Sunday morning.

The blues came out in the second half kicking toward the street end. I got a feeling we could get something from this. DM must have had some harsh words to say during the break as the boys in Blue were in the faces of the dominant Manure side early in the second period. Expectantly we watched as the pressure told on United. Ferdinand was as shaky as a sh!tt!ng dog. Vidic wasn't much better. A break down the Everton right was thwarted by Brother Phil. As Ronaldo completed his breakdance on the floor, Alan Wiley produced the yellow card for the Everton captain. The Jag, Yobo and Fellaini would all follow into the dinner invitations book.

The Goodison crowd were up, United were rocking and I was wishing I was there to see it all. Brother Phil joined the play not long after and lobbed an accurate ball onto the massive wig of Screech, powering his header into the corner of van der Saar's net. 1-1 and game on.

Welcome to Everton.

With the United back line wobbling, the Yak got clear down the left. A good shot on goal deflected by the fingers of the Manure 'keeper. How unlucky the Yak was not to get onto the scoresheet today. With the Yak replaced by Vaughany and the industrious Saha by big Vic, the Everton faithful now see what it is to have 4 strikers. The upset Rooney, who was booked for a foul on Arteta, then kissed his badge in front of the Everton fans to earn another talking to from the referee. True Blue my ar$e.

Moyesy wanted the game playing higher up the park but with a needless challenge late into injury time from the goalscorer, could United have a chance to win it? Out for a corner and ref Wiley blatantly couldn't be ar$ed any more and blew for time. He must have been avoiding any problems if United had scored from the corner. With a drive of 300 miles facing me and the chance of snow in Michigan, a well earned point from what could have been a most embarrassing defeat and the thought of having 5 attacking options when the Blue Kangaroo is back. I for one am looking forward to next week. COYB. MOM: Mourouraourainneeee Fellaniaainiiiii: you owe us £14mill now son :-) Spirit of the Blues

Everton Team News

Most fans would like both Saha and Yakubu to start, but word is Moyesy may give The Yak a blow and just play Saha on his own. Cahill is suspended, but Anichebe and Yobo are both back. Tony Hibbert will have a fitness test tomorrow before Moyesy picks his team.

Moyesy says: “I’m looking forward to the game. But it is very tough, and the form they’re in just now makes it more difficult. But nevertheless we need to try and get ourselves back. Hopefully if we put in a good performance and get a good result from it then that will give us confidence.”

Lard's XI To Start: Howard, Hibbert, Yobo, Jagielka, Lescott, Arteta, Osman, Fellaini, Pienaar, Saha, Yakubu.

Everton from: Howard, Baines, Neville, Hibbert, Yobo, Lescott, Jagielka, Arteta, Osman, Fellaini, Pienaar, Vaughan, Saha, Anichebe, Yakubu, Nash, Rodwell, Valente, Jutkiewicz, Gosling, Baxter.

* Saha is a good bet to score his first Everton goal at 11/1, but I'm sticking with another £10 on The Yak at 15/2.

About The Opposition

Wayne 'Once A Blue Always A Blue' Rooney has again been winding up Evertonians before the game on Saturday. Does he ever stop to think that his Dad will be watching from the Upper Bullens?

Rooney says: “It wouldn’t really matter if it was my first goal or my 100th, it would still be really sweet. For obvious reasons, Saturday is a big game for me. It is always nice for any player to score 100 goals and if I can do that back at Everton, where I started and at Goodison Park, where I scored my first Premier League goal, it would be really pleasing.”
