Everton: Howard, Yobo, Lescott, Neville, Jagielka, Osman, Fellaini, Arteta, Yakubu, Saha Bench: Baines (Neville), Rodwell, Nash, Anichebe (Saha), Castillo, Gosling, Jutkiewicz Referee: Knob Styles It felt more like a home game tonight as hordes of Blues made their way down the M58, to what eventually proved a fruitless journey. The Blues stuck with the same eleven that drew at home against Boro, after Peanuts failed a fitness test earlier in the day. I say it seemed like a home game as the Blues were devoid of any skill, craft or guile witnessed so many times at Goodison this season. For long spells of the match we were second best to the Pie Eaters, who have won only one home game this season, just to make matters worse. In fact the Blues had to be thankful to Starman Tim Howard for keeping the score line decent after the American keeper pulled of a string of superb saves, no more so than in first half injury time from Big Dunc’s mate Paul Scharner. It was all irrelevant though in the end for Howard, as his Blues team mates found it hard even to string two decent passes together. Some of our big names are just not doing it this term. Once again the goal against came down the right hand side, Roger again wanting. He is either a left back or nothing. I get fed up watching him take the space up in the middle, like Boro last week. Either stay left back or give Leighton Baines a go. Henri Camara poked the goal in from close range after Valencia was given the freedom of the right hand side of the park, roll on Aaron Lennon on Saturday, Jesus can't wait. Ossie was poor, Mikky not much better, and as for Screech, the jury is still out with me, get a hair cut lad, its weighing you down, its like watching someone stuck in quick sand. We had our chances, we always do. Louis Saha miss kicked straight at Kirkland, after The Yak fed him on the counter attack. Tiny should have done better with a header also in the first period, and the worst of the lot was Tiny again in the dying seconds of the match firing over from point blank range. I won’t labour the point, but we were poor tonight, the poorest I have seen us in a long time. We had the chance to go within a point of The Arse, and within two of a Champions League place, so maybe it proves not how good or bad the Blues are, but how piss poor the Premiership really is. For the many who watched on the box, I think they would be hard pressed to renew their Setanta and Sky subscriptions if that is the fare that is served up. For the few thousand of us who travelled over, thank Christ we only had twenty odd miles to drive home, as if that was going to be a longer journey, I don’t think I could have handled the drive. Spurs next Saturday, and with the renaissance they are having under Hawwy Wedknapp, the Blues will have their work cut out to get any points, but then again………. Full Time Wigan 1 EVERTON 0

Moyesy says: There were a couple of opportunities tonight, Yak had a chance early on and there was some good play from them in the early part of the game I thought. The longer it went on it dwindled away a little bit, but I think there’s goals there and I think they’re both very good players. We’ve played better than that. It was quite tight but I knew it would be a tough game. Wigan’s not an easy place to come and they’re a strong side, so you have to give them some credit. Hopefully we can pick up. We’ve played well recently prior to coming here and had been on a decent run, so hopefully we can pick up again." It
says a Lot For Our Performance When The Winning Manager says This:
"Football’s a strange game sometimes because that was arguably
one of our worst performances. We’ve played better than that and lost."

Wigan 1 Everton 0 Attendance: 18,344 (almost half the away end) - Match Report By Max O'Collins. Finally, Everton's luck ran out, and a pretty standard display secured a much needed win for Wigan. the Lactic's deserved their victory as well, from Everton's dominance in the first 15 minutes, the blues never looked like getting back in the game. There was expectance in the air. The turgid JJB stadium had a vociferous and packed away end hoping to spur the toffees on, to continue their 5 match unbeaten run. A reputable Rob Styles blew his whistle and the game was under way. Everton, under the floodlights, in their even more fluorescent yellow kits dazzled Wigan as they took the game to a team lying in the relegation zone. Consistent pressure brought about 3 corners, none of which produced a notable chance. It was to be Kirkland that was tested first. A great Everton breakaway resulted in a through ball from Yakubu to the impressive Saha who blasted a shot which was well saved by Kirkland, down to his left. With Everton in the ascendancy the crowd got behind the toffees. Little did they know that were to be one of only two chances in the entire game for the blue boys. They didn't deserve anything out of the game. there was a lack of 'want' for 50:50s, Wigan closed down very well and made it difficult for Everton - Blues, take a leaf. They did well and create chances, so much so that scoreline flattered Everton. In the
30th minute wigan should have taken the lead. A well worked cross field
ball that caught out the dozy Lescott was passed back across goal, only
for Wilson Palacious to head over with the net gaping. A warning sign
for Everton that they did not heed. The next chances were to come just
before the interval, and like the animals in Noah's ark they came in
twos. (Trying to lighten up the depressing result with a horrible metaphor!) A long blast of the whistle in turn signaled half time. Everton had to take note of what this average Wigan side were capable of. Unfortunately there was to be no change of fortune in the second half. The introduction of the injury-prone Henri Camara wasn't exactly enough to get the Wigan fans off their seats (some are pretty big, so we'll forgive them!) . But it was to be the silky Senegalese international who broke the deadlock. Again, the dozy Lescott was caught out by a cross field ball, this time Valencia took it down, almost ambled past the 'mighty' frame of the England international and squared the ball to Camara who was on hand to put Wigan ahead. Cue a scrappy last 30 which involved half chances, potential Wigan counters, Everton pressure, but no end product. No LUCK. The toffees luck seems to have run dry. This was epitomised by a now usual last gasp chance blasted over by the relatively average Tim Cahill. A cool head was needed as he slashed the ball into row Z from eight yards. A chance that would have been capitalized on away to West Ham, or at home to Fulham. A bit of time wasting in the corner and then it was all over. Evertonain's put out of their misery as an awful display was brought to an end. Fair play Wigan, they showed they were no push over's, and showed how tight this season's league is and will be. 18th beating 7th just didn't really happen last season. TEAM ANALYSIS, WHAT'S WRONG? It will be difficult for the blues to build on today's display. the whole team really needs to take a look at themselves. Starting from the back, Neville is looking better, but still needs to inspire the team more. Yobo and Jagielka are relatively solid at the back, but in the last ten minutes I'd like to see them try to play the long ball up field, applying pressure on a shaky team. Lescott needs to be dropped. Baines had his chance earlier on in the season and I don't quite see what he did wrong? In midfield, there is no fluency. The intricate passing that is more commonly found in an Arsenal team just doesn't work when you have terrier like players such as Osman and Cahill in the centre. who apply pressure on opponents and pop up with the odd goal but have no skill. On the wing Mikel needs to buck up and try to sort out his free kicks. Just take half an hour a day Mikel to sort them out. Fellaini has been very average since his arrival. A few important goals can't warrant 16 million pounds. He needs to be consistently class with that price tag. Up top the understanding that was evident last week against Boro went out the window today. The little link up play evident today between Saha and Yakubu was quashed whenever either had the ball at their feet by to be fair, the solid Wigan centre backs (Geez, that did include Bramble!). Although Saha looked good in the first 30 minutes with change of pace, taking on defenders, he needs to keep going for the full ninety. Yakubu needs to reform himself like the Yak of old. He is looking a lot bigger and not as mobile as before, clearly show when he lost his balance trying to pull the trigger after taking down an Arteta cross in the second half. Hopefully the luck will be back against Tottenham. I would also love to see a solid performance, a 2-0 or 1-0 win. On top of a win, it is imperative we manage to play well ,as all the wins so far this season have been due to our good luck (besides from Stoke). I know
it is usually said, but in relatively troubled times, those of you that
give great support when things are going well need to stick with the
boys to help catalyse another unbeaten run. COYB by
Max O'Collins. |

What Do You Think The Score Will Be? e-mail info@bluekipper.com * We’re going to do them 2 -1. Yak to open, Lescott to get the winner in the last 5 minutes. Graham Wilks * Same as West Ham. Pie eaters to score 1st then the Yak to score a hatrick! Paul McGough * 3-1 to the Blues. Yakubu, Saha and Timmy all to score. Killer for them. Matty Vicaz * Unfortunately I think we will only manage a draw this evening. 1-1. Cahill to equalise. Ozblue * 2-0 to Everton Arteta free kick and Lescott header from a corner. Billy Blue |

Five games unbeaten, three wins and two draws, and only the defeat to The Arse to show for our travels in the Premiership this season. Moyesy once again apart from Lars Jacobsen has a full hand of cards to pick from, and I believe Louis Saha will be the unlucky player to make way as the Gaffer goes with his favoured 4-5-1 formation on the road. Peanuts should start instead of the French striker and if the Blues are successful at Wigan we will move up a place to sixth place in the League. Only The Jag and Tim Howard have started and finished every League and Cup game this season, and if Leighton Baines starts against his old club he will be making his 200th League appearance. In six Premiership attempts the Latics have only got the best of the Blues once, so, lets hope their shite record against us keeps up on Monday night.
Lavo's XI To Start: Howard, Neville, Yobo, Jagielka, Lescott, Arteta, Fellaini, Cahill, Osman, Pienaar, Yakubu Everton from: Howard, Neville, Yobo, Jagielka, Lescott, Arteta, Cahill, Rodwell, Vaughan, Pienaar, Fellaini, Osman, Yakubu, Saha, Hibbert, Anichebe, Baines, Nash, Castillo, Jutkiewicz, Gosling.
