Funeral
Thousand
of Evertonian's joined with over 400 players past and present at
Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral yesterday to say their final farewell
to Mr Everton, Brian Labone.
Thousands
more paid their respects to Labby as the Funeral procession made
a final lap of honour around Goodison Park, and spontaneous applause
was the order of day to applaud an Evertonian who had brought happiness
to us all.
The
service was conducted by Everton Chaplain the Reverend Harry Ross
who paid his own special tribute to Brain by saying that, 'he could
stand here for 24 hours and not pay adequate tribute to Brian's
life. He had one great abiding love, Everton Football Club, and
he was a great Evertonian.'
Tributes
were paid by former team mates, Joe Royle, and a special message
was read out on behalf of Alex Young, who could not attend due to
ill health. FIFA's top man Sepp Blatter also sent a message of condolence.
Fittingly
Z Cars was piped into the Cathedral as the gathered masses said
their last goodbyes to a true Everton great, and the congregation
left to 'Abide With Me'.
Thank
you for everything Labby, you will be missed. (05/05/06)
