Memorial Cup

Former Everton Greats Neville Southall and Richard Gough, joined players of the calibre of Toto Schillaci, Giuseppe Signori and Matthias Sammer as the Rest of The World took on Bally's beloved England in Milton Keynes last night.

Paul Ince, Matt Le Tiss, Peter Shilton were in the England side that beat the Rest of The World 4-2, in a match to celebrate the life of Alan Ball, the England and Everton Legend who sadly passed away earlier in the year. Bluekipper dispatched an intrepid reporter to the game, and when we can find the pub he ended up in all night, drag him back to Merseyside we then may be able to show you the photo's he took. Alan's proud son Jimmy was overwhelmed by the turn out of stars and fans alike.

Jimmy Ball says: " It's something my Dad would have loved to have played in and it's a great that all these players are turning out to pay tribute to him. I know a lot of his friends and colleagues are going to take to the pitch for both teams and many more will be watching along with all the supporters and TV audience. It's going to be a great day and a celebration of a great man." (30/07/07)

Bally's Funeral

Everton Legend Alan Ball's Funeral and Celebration Service took place today at Winchester Cathedral. The great and the good from the footballing world joined with Bally's Family to remember the little giant who touched so many hearts during the 61 years of his life. Thousands of fans lined the streets leading to the Cathedral and applause broke out as the Cortege passed by.

Every Premiership Manager was invited to the service and attended, and they watched as Bally's Coffin draped in the St. Georges Flag was carried into the Cathedral. Bally's famous cloth cap was placed poignantly on the Casket, as the family requested that none of the invited Guests were to wear black, but to celebrate their Fathers life, as he would have wanted.

His great pal Frank McLintock spoke glowingly of the man, and spoke glowingly of that great Everton side, and Bally's fantastic partnership with Colin Harvey and Howard Kendall.

The service was concluded with those immortal words from Commentator Kenneth Wolsenthome from Bally's Greatest Hour, 'They think it's all over', your life may well be, but the memories will last forever. Thank you for everything Alan, Sleep Well.

Alan Ball Tribute Song By Martin Murphy

Southampton supporter, Martin Murphy has written lyrics to the Oasis music, Wonderwall. He has now recorded it and is allowing Evertonians to download it free of charge. All he asks is for supporters to donate £1 to the Bobby More Fund in Alan's memory. Alan's children Jimmy, Keeley & Mandy have asked for no flowers to be sent to the funeral at Winchester Cathedral tomorrow, but for donations to be sent in Alan's name to the Bobby Moore Fund.

The Lyrics

Today is gonna be the day that I'm gonna say a prayer for you
we say you were cruelly taken away when you still had so much left to do
I cant believe that anybody could possibly forget about you now

Small man, a giant on the pitch, he had power, touch and bags of skill
Nice guy, he had time for every fan, it's a mighty pair of boots to fill
I cant believe that anybody could possibly forget about you now

coz all the runs you used to make were winding
the way you got le tiss to play was blinding
there are lots of things that we would love to say to you,
but it's too late now

You're shining
Like a star with a ginger lining
You're loved by all
You're our Alan Ball

One day you held the Jules Rimet on a summers day in 66
You shone, as the years went on with a passion, pride and lots of tricks
I cant believe that anybody could possibly forget about you now

Bally's Hometown Remembers

Hundreds of football fans turned out in Bolton for a Memorial Service for the late great Alan Ball. Bally's family were joined by friends and locals, to celebrate the ex Everton and England's players life in his hometown of Bolton. Sir Phillip Carter represented Everton Football Club, and as requested by the Family, many Guest's arrived in football shirts as a mark of respect.

Alan's Daughter Keeley says: "It means a lot because this is where both my parents were born and I think that dad would have wanted it. He would have been really proud that people wanted to do this. It's been overwhelming. We are still in shock and disbelief." (10/06/07)
