Yesterday was a big day in many Everton households as the 'A' and 'A/S' Level results rolled in. Students on Everton in the Community's B-Tec course know the feeling.
A group of students are celebrating after gaining top marks on an Everton further education course.
17 students have all achieved the equivalent of three A Levels after completing a Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Sport with Everton in the Community.
The two-year full-time programme allows students to achieve first class qualifications via vocational learning, while also gaining valuable practical experience relating to the sport and leisure industry.
Student Holly said: 'You do subjects like nutrition and psychology, and it's based around football.'
'I'm not academic, so I prefer doing assignments than tests, the Everton B-Tec is half practical, half theory. It's not just writing and copying off a board.'
'Everton give you opportunities, you're not guaranteed to get them, but I've just been employed.'
The course boasts a 100 per cent pass rate, with some students achieving the equivalent of three A's at A Level. Students also benefit from a wider selection of options once they have finished the qualification, with some progressing to university and others directly into employment, thanks to the experience they gain on the course.
The BTEC, which is delivered by Everton in the Community's qualified teachers at Childwall Sports and Science College (mixed course) and St Julie's Catholic High School (girls only course), is the only BTEC in Liverpool to focus specifically on football, and through its connection with the Club, offers students an expert insight into the sports industry.
The students complete 19 modules covering a range of different subjects, including coaching, physiology, sociology, nutrition and performance analysis. In addition, participants are able to gain a Level 1 FA Certificate in Coaching as well as the FA Emergency First Aid and FA Safeguarding Children in Football Awards.
Students require dedication and commitment and need at least five GCSE's between A-C to gain entry onto the course, which is the same standard as A-Levels.
Recruitment for 2012/13 is currently underway and students interested in the course should contact Everton in the Community on 0151 530 5253 or visit evertonfc.com/community.
