Ray's medal sold

We are not happy. Ray Wilson's World Cup Winner's medal has been sold to an anonymous chap for £80,750. Doesn't he go on the message board. Everton should have bought it. It would have looked good in a cabinet at the new stadium.

Ray said:"Although it is painful to part with my World Cup winner's medal, an object full of personal and national nostalgia, I have decided to sell it in order to financially provide for my family.

"It has taken me a good few years to come to this decision, but I believe it is for the best and I hope my medal finds a worthy home. "Regardless of its ownership, it will always represent England on top of the world."(29/03/02)

Ray Wilson's World Cup Winners Medal under the hammer

Back in November 2000, Blue Kipper urged fans to campaign for Everton F.C. to buy Ray Wilson's World Cup Winner's medal. The sale was postponed. It will now take place at Christie's in South Kensington, London, on 27th March 2002. Christie's reckon Ray's medal will net up to £90,000. So even though we are skint, we could have a unique prize. Imagine it on display at the Kings Dock, Bill.

Potential Prize Possession for Trophy Room

As news breaks that Ray Wilson will be putting his 1966 World Cup Winners medal up for sale, we urge the Blues board to buy this prize possession. Ray has been quoted as saying that he does not need the money, but the possible windfall of £80,000 would be enjoyable spent with his family.

Mansfield born Ramon Wilson made 150 and 3 subs appearances for Everton between 1964-69. He was considered as the finest full-back in European football when he won the medal and Evertonians will fondly remember him for his acrobatic overhead clearances.

Blue Kipper is urging Everton to give Ray's medal pride of place in the Goodison Trophy Room, rather than hidden away in someone's private collection.

Blue Kipper urges all fans to write, fax, or e-mail the club, asking Everton to buy the medal.(05/02/02)

E-MAILS FROM THE FANS

Glad to see your urging Everton to buy ray wilson's world cup medal. I have already sent them an e-mail asking if they are,and i hope every Evertonian does the same, although I dont think they should need urging. They should have made a bid as soon the news broke. What is the chance of another everton player winning the world cup with england (whats the chance of england winning the world cup again). keep up the good work & the campaign. yoz.(30/11/00)

We have far too few worldclass players and memories to let two pieces of Everton folklore pass out of our outstretched hands. Good luck with the site. Lee. (11/03/01)
