History
Over the past twelve years our Football in the Community programme has
been about giving something back, using our privileged position within
our community to offer, inspiration and enjoyment through football and
non-football based activities, to everybody.
Initially it began as a one-man operation with Ted Sutton at the helm
doing everything himself. Alan Johnson then came on board as a Community
Liaison Officer with a remit of tackling any racial orientated problems
associated with the Club. A couple of years later, the Club was applying
for Academy status, and parts of the criteria for acquiring the licence
were to have relationships with a minimum number of primary and secondary
schools, whilst also providing small-sided games for a substantial number
of non-Academy players.
This tied in perfectly to the Football in the Community strategy with
most of our work done in these areas anyway. A proposal was put to the
board for six extra full-time staff, which was agreed, and made Everton's
FITC programme one of the biggest in the country.
Since then we have further developed a fantastic reputation for providing
quality across a huge range of activities.
We are currently regarded as the most progressive and pro-active Football
in the Community department in the country.
Our Community covers everybody from the cradle to the grave, and although
focused primarily on Merseyside, we travel further a field to wherever
we are invited by Everton fans across the country and beyond.
The programme now has ten full time staff, nine of those are highly qualified
and experience coaches, delivering football and non-football based activities
to girls and boys of whatever age or ability, making sure everybody has
fun with football!
