Don't let this opportunity slip away forever

Clearly this is a 'one-off' opportunity to capture for all time, the clubs fascinating and illustrious history. Not only that, but this is very much a window on the City of Liverpool as it was and any collection could possibly be housed for ALL the public to see in a museum environment where the expertise of the staff could be utilized to preserve and safeguard the exhibits some of which will require special handling.

There are numerous methods funding could be raised to purchase the collection outright, from supporter initiatives to sponsorship from local blue-chip companies who would want to be associated with such an historic collection, one things for sure there will never be another occasion when such a array of Everton memorabilia becomes available.

Whilst the club and David France may want to keep the purchase price of the collection between themselves, we need to know what the scale of the fundraising needs to be. Is it £100k, £200k, £500k ? Whatever the price is, the next step is to agree the purchase with David France and then put a fundraising team together to begin ways of raising the revenue. Don't let this opportunity slip away forever. Steve Hogan

£30 Levy

I e-mailed Mr. Wyness about the possibility of a one off thirty pound levy on next seasons season tickets. We do know our history and we must have this collection. 25,ooo season ticket holders paying thirty quid each equals 750.000 pounds. Perhaps the club could then give a small reduction for season ticket holders in the next couple of seasons. cheers jjjj. (07/12/04)

Player's Wages

The collection can be secured for a quarter of Ferguson's or Campbell's wages. Tick tick wur, thats about £3/4m? Let's make do with just 1/2 a Tim Cahill in the January sales (the whole one's doing alright!), this is for the legions of future Evertonians not just for this or for next season. What's that saying? "If You Know Your History" - heres our chance gift wrapped. Barry Kermode. (07/12/04)

Sponsor A Brick

In addition to the excellent proposals proffered by our fellow supporters, we could also "sponsor a brick"...a one-off payment to have your kids immortalised in the Everton Museum for evermore. I believe there's a family called "The Waltons" circa 1970 who would purchase at least 60 for their kids....just a suggestion! Ziggy...(07/12/04)

Fans Fund

Dear Mr Wyness. Regarding the above collection, it is absolutely imperative that the clubs buys this historical record. If it means that Mr Moyes must buy one player less in January then so be it. Players come and go this collection is forever. I do have a few suggestions as to how the club can raise funds towards the purchase.

1. Start a fund for fans to make donations, I will pledge £100 now.

2. Ask fans to make an interest free loan of £1000 to the club to be repaid at the clubs discretion at some-much-later date from the museum revenue. Each donor to receive a "share" certificate which if suitably enhanced would encourage fans to keep, rather than redeem it. It should be your aim that they would become collectors items.

3. Start the fund but also have a book of one/two line messages/memories which will be included for all donations over an amount determined by the club or the supporters clubs.

Whichever method used if the certificates are enhanced enough, with enough autographs etc that will encourage donors and make them reluctant to cash them in. Yours Sincerely. AJ Haizelden. (01/12/04)

Congrats Dr France

Dear Mr Wyness. First may I congratulate your appointment to Everton Football Club; I believe we will all benefit from your new insight at the Club.

The David France Collection is in my opinion the most important piece of football memorabilia that has ever become available in this country. The importance of such a collection would not only be an asset to the club but to the City of Liverpool and to the whole North West region.

I would urge you to purchase this collection in the interests of the club and its supporters; the main aim is to secure the collection then we can
consider facilities to display the collection.
If there is an option for lottery funding to secure this I hope that avenue is also explored.

I must also applaud David France for offering first refusal to the club; he is a true Evertonian and gentleman and his loyalty and dedication should be recognised by the City of Liverpool as well as the Club. In these days of mercenary tactics, it is refreshing for someone to have as much foresight as this.

I also think that the time had come that this issue was taken seriously and I applaud your efforts in this matter; to date the coverage in the local
paper has been minimal and it is due a lot to the efforts of the bluekipper.com team, whom I know you have had contact with, that is keeping this subject at the forefront of everyone's mind I hope that they are mentioned in dispatches as they are a dedicated band of people for whom the Club should be proud to be associated with - we are the people who turn up through the lean times and we have always supported the Club 100%.

The supporters have often been overlooked in years gone by; I hope you can address that by securing this collection for the future of Everton Football club - the young fans (especially) deserve to know what a wonderful history this Club has and what a way to show them with the greatest collection of memorabilia.

I implore you to purchase this collection for the Club and for the football establishment as a whole. I need not to tell you that if you need the help of the fans of this Club on this matter, we will assist in any way possible.

This is matter I feel strongly on, and I am more than confident in your abilities to reach a expedient and positive result to this situation. Yours sincerely. Dr Richard Hughes. (01/12/04)

* IT'S A NO BRAINER. BUY IT NOW. SEAN. (01/12/04)

National Lottery refuse money to buy Everton memorabilia

I really think that we should do something about this. Perhaps email people as I suggest. I really do believe we can get this decision changed. I know that there are hundreds of thousands of Evertonians out there. When Members of Parliament get more than one letter on a topic they tend to treat it seriously. We should all bombard our MPS to do something and make this a national issue. Maybe a Labour Government could do something for the people for a change. That would be a first! From James Carlin. Why the question?

It doesn't matter what they pay for it - IT IS WORTH IT. The way things are going with ephemera of all kinds its got to be worth more than the Auctioneers will value it at.
Do the club not realise that it can only appreciate in value, especially as the club looks likely to be on the up and up. What a centre piece for a museum at the new or refurbished ground. How many of us would pay to see it? Even visiting fans! I'm sure the club would recoup the money in time.

BUY IT NOW! We will all lose out if it goes to auction.

My strong feelings about this may have something to do with the fact that as lad I swapped my granddads complete collection of Everton home game programmes from the sixties going back to pre-war for comics off some guy who used to come round the door in Halewood-me arl fella wanted to kill me:((
I can feel the disappointment gnawing at me every time I think of it. Cheers AJH

Here's My Dollars

This was sent to Keith Wyness.

Keith. I would be willing to contribute $200 to this collection (living in the US as I do). Let's hope we don't let this slip away. Gary. (29/11/04)

Fan's Fund

Despite "negotiating" for 18 months, Everton still did not decide to buy David France's Everton collection. Rumours are, the shite are interested. This can't be allowed to happen. What happened to "if you know your history?"
This stuff will never be collected in one place again and would cost a fortune to re-collect if and when our much promised museum ever gets off the ground. How about starting a fan's fund to raise the cash? Who knows, we may be able to open our own Everton museum and ban the gobshites currently running "the peoples club" from entering. Paul Burns. For The Kids

Imagine if we were to lose the Tower as well as the David France collection. Once there gone there gone, it's our heritage. There can only be one Everton ( apart from the Chile one ) only one concise history of a leading club in the world exists, lets not easily give this special collection up.

A unique insight to the formation and development of the club we love. Every fans wish of what went on in the boardroom of our club. Inside this remarkable collection also gives an insight of how the people of Merseyside lived, the adverts of every day needs and desires. David France is bending over backwards to give us a chance at a knock down price of our heritage. How will we feel if the reds take a special part of our heritage away as their own? We will always regret not securing this collection if it goes. Our children and their children in our extended family deserve to have an insight in the formation and growth of our club. Ian. Keep It At Goodison

What do all you wags at Blue Kipper Towers think of Wyness sacking the France collection? Apparently, even the shite have been there, putting their grubby little paws all over OUR history. Something's gorra be done about this lads. That collection has got to be at Goodison.

I know you lot can think of something. Top site, boys!! All the best, Stuey Price. (29/11/04)
