Away Day Blues.

I've heard grumbles of discontent about the Gerrard Heart attack song being sung at Filbert Street. These grumble merchants (and one was one of my best friends while we drove away from the ground itself) have short memories. Can you not remember some of the music hall favorites from past times? Let me remind you; Mark Lawrenson being 'up little boys', Robbie Gargoyle being a frequent user of Heroin, Jason McAteer being homosexual. Lets not forget the original lyrics for the Heart attack song were sung for Super Souy. I can't remember anyone moaning back then. I laughed my bollocks off then and I laugh my bollocks off now.

I remember when the righteous redshite were no angels themselves. Let me refresh your mind with two songs THEY used to sing. One concerned a certain disaster in '58, (which they continued to sing up until '89 then suddenly stopped - fucking hypocrits). The other concerned Bryan Robson and a sexually transmitted disease.

Anyone preaching about songs can go and fuck off - if you don't like the song being sung try starting another one off - one less controversial. Alls fair in love and war. We get told that we live in slums for fuck sake.

In saying that I was genuinely dissapointed with the ethnic minority bashing and Heskey song. This only adds potential arrows for the Media to fire at us. The Gerrard Hooligan song is differnt because we're not having a go at the colour of his skin. No, it's because he's a dirty red bog eyed turd (like the rest of them). And all football clubs live on one type of rivalry or another. "Wake up and smell the maple nut crunch" Marko. (27/11/01)

Please Let Me Back Wally.

So now we hear that the mighty Michael" I'm not leaving....but add another zero on the end of that signing on fee" Ball has spat his dummy out at getting subtituted in the old firm derby!! Suprise suprise! Walter Smith does seem to have a strange set of priorities when it comes to picking the team on Saturday...but getting rid of Dumbo, Judas, and Bally doesn't seem so bad now does it...none of them get a run out, add Hutchison to that list while you're at it, because I doubt we've seen him make his last move to "the club he wants to finish his career at"!Do I hear the faint whisper of "told you so" from wally's office? Pete Gillespie. (27/11/01)

Ignorance appears to be bliss

Just thought I'd knock out an email message to express my concern at the way the fans are treated by our so called stars.

Surprisingly and unexpectedly arrived early at Leicester today (24/11/01) with my two young kids (all season ticket holders) to watch the match. Walking down the road I noticed a familiar looking figure marching up the road, It was Bill Kenwright ! Decided to take the plunge and engage him in conversation and hopefully get his autograph, purely for the kids sake you understand. I was really impressed by his attitude, He not only obliged with the autograph but he stopped and had a chat with my kids ( I, of course, mumbled a few inaudiate words, thoroughly affected by his prescence and therefore unable to ask any sensible questions of the man). After a few minutes chat we said our goodbyes and he walked off towards the ground. I was really impressed by him spending this time with me and my family.

Spurred on by this and observing the Everton bus entering the stadium grounds I decided to find a vantage point to view the Everton squad leaving the bus. Finding myself and the two kids at the front of the small crowd that had gathered, we proceeded to cheer every player off of the bus. What a miserable lot !! With the exception of Gazza and Tommy Graveson, who at least acknowledged the crowd, not one had the time or the inclination for the fans. We stood 3 feet from a stationary Walter Smith, my 8 year old daughter politely shouting for 'Mr Smith' to sign her program, while he nontently surveyed the side of the bus. Disappointing for the kids, I thought.

After an uninspiring match, in which the Everton fans absolutely masscred the opposition, in terms of noise and team encouragement, how many players acknowledged the massive support they had received during their mediocre performance from a sell out away end? four players... most showed more sprinting prowess heading towards the tunnel than they had on the pitch all through the match.

My long awaited point is that, with the exception of Mr Kenwright, I found no other member of the Everton management or playing staff who were prepared to acknowledge, in even the smallest way, the commitment and sacrifice that the fans make week in, week out, for the sake of the club, It is even more stupifying, under the circumstances why they can't find the time to even acknowledge the crowd and the tremendous support they receive?

I have seen all the home matches this season and observed most away teams generously acknowledging the support they have received (even those bunch of mercenaries known as Chelsea!) so what is wrong with our lot? is it that they really don't want the support? be at the club? or is moral so low that they can't even raise a smile for the fans?

Finally I would like to thank Mr Kenwright (a true Evertonian) for making my kids day but could I earnestly suggest Mr Smith and his team take a few public relations lessons from him as I think Walter and his band of un-merry men desperately need as much 'fan' support as they can get during the current era of tactical 'match losing' blunders and extremely 'average' performances. ROM. (25/11/01)

Walter IS The Best Man for the Job

im sick and tired of hearing abuse directed at walter smith week in week out. we should all learn to trust this great mans judgement, as he hasnt done too bad so far with his limited resources. has no one noticed that its a miracle he has kept us up so far and now aspiring for a top half finish? and even if walter was sacked, who can do a better job? CULSHAWLANCELOT. (24/11/01)

I'm A Blue

Just a quick comment on the racism point. There have been some very well written and very pleasing comments on the site and lets hope that people in the stands will follow the examples expressed here and help get racism out of Goodison. People should always remember that if they hear rascist comments and don't respond negatively but instead stay silent then they are indirectly supporting racism - silence is the easy cop-out. Am I black ? Am I white ? Me - I'm Blue. Lee Doyle. (24/11/01)

Simmo Proves He Is Simply The Best

I sent in a mail over the simmo titled "Give simmo a chance" and to my delight he was and he proved to be a
great a player as I said he would be and I am delighted that hun of a manager eventually gave him a go and I hope he keeps his play. He should do cause there is not much competition for him. Blues brother. (24/11/01)

Top 6 - Here we come!

The season hasn't gone that bad so far apart from gettin beat by the shite. With a bit of luck against blackburn, tottenham, newcastle and bolton and we could been in the top 6. Lets keep up the good work blue boys.
Alan Parks. (24/11/01)

Home Thoughts From Abroad

I am surely not alone in thinking that Paul Gerrard is not worth his place in the 1st XI. In my humble opinion, Myrhe is the best keeper at the club, although Smith has been too stubborn to pick him and Tommy decided a long time ago (and who can blame him) to leave. Now he anticipates leaving on a Bosman. Another good piece of Everton business. If goalkeepers like Westerveld can be bought for £4m and Walker for £3m, then Myrhe must be worth at least those 2 combined.

Has Gerrard come out and explained how he got Xavier and Bellamy mixed up while doing a Barthez and
completely ignoring the ball?
Obviously Walter wants to pick the players that he likes (otherwise Campbell would have 'taken a rest' by now) which has worked for the likes of Weir, Gemmill and Pembo who have improved a great deal over the last couple of seasons. However, it has also seen us lose a few players (Dunne & Ball being the obvious examples) who Smith plainly did not like. Added to that is the inability of other players (Tal another obvious one) to get a game for some unknown reason.

It's not necessarily time to get rid of Smith as we look mid-table again this season, partly because there seems to be a bunch of bad premier teams this season and partly because we've got about 1/2 of a good team, unless we are forced to sell again in the summer - I'm sure there will be a few takers for Mad Dog and Rad, at least. Cheers. John. Another exiled Blue. (24/11/01)

Will The Rad Stay?

Tomasz is a really good and his pace is bloody frightening i would have swapped him for that money grabbing b****** anyday. jeffers i thought u were a blue u beaut. tomasz just needs to be a bit more clinical in the box then we'll probably sell him for about 4 million knowin walter. G4390. (24/11/01)

Racism @ Goodison Park

I totally agree with Thomas's comments on the racism incident. As an Evertonian for over 16years, I too have heard racist comments but the only people who have the power to do anything are the stewards. If more people pointed the racists cunts out, then Evertonfc can stop this altogether.
Some people have short memories when giving SuperKev abuse; It wasn't long ago that he saved Everton from going down due to his goals, plus he loves the club.
Do the same people that give him abuse cheer him when he scores a goal?
And no I'm not black but of a white origin. Shaun. (21/11/01)

MBE

Tell MBE that we (right winged crazies) would give him Ralph Nader, but his highness is saving himself for Fidel. Once you boil it down, reading MBE's column is sort-of like reading Kurt Vonnegut writing about sports.
Ken. (21/11/01)

Safe Hands

What a differnce it makes to have a keeper with a bit of confidence in Goal. It must be giving the defence a lift at least, to know that there not getting to get a punch in the face, from the keeper, when they are nearer the halfway line than the Goal ! Good luck to Simmo , he has waited a long time for his chance & I hope he does well ! Great save from Zola as well by the way. Phil McElroy. (21/11/01)

Mr Versatility

Just after Steve Watsons half decent performance up front I heard some one refer to him as Mr Versatility, that got me thinking about a so called Mr Alan Harper who played many roles for Everton during the 80's. Can anyone tell me what he does now? (He's a coach at Everton) I'm sure you blue kipper lads would love it if he was a current player for he sure as hell was ugly, you'd have a field day with look alikes. (We already have him) Anyway congratulations to young Simo I thought he had a great game, and what a save against Zola...
Brian Morgan (Belfast) (21/11/01)

Simmo proves his Class

I am writing to congratulate Walter on giving Simmo a chance to prove himself! He is a very good goalkeeper that we didn't know we even had. He made sum very compromising saves on Sunday against Chelsea. The save from Zola's freekick was sublime! Hopefully this fine form will continue and his dominating presence in the area will steady up the defence and make them more confident!!!

I'm going to the Leicester game on Saturday, hopefully the boys will have their shooting boots on and we will win. Remember Blues Nil Satis Nisi Optimum. Thank Blue Kipper the site is minted.
Jamie Armstrong. (21/11/01)

WISA - Fans' United Day

Wimbledon Independent Supporters' Association have organised a Fans' United Day on Sunday 16th December at our 'home' match v. Nottingham Forest. This match was specifically chosen because, with it being on a Sunday, most other teams will not be playing and there will therefore be a chance for more fans of other teams to attend.

The aim of the event is to highlight the value of supporters to football clubs and the link between a football club and its local community and, more specifically, to protest against franchising in football, the MK issue and to push for a return for Wimbledon FC to its rightful home in Merton.

Anyone who wishes to attend should e-mail me at woking_womble@hotmail.com or at fansunited@wisa.org.uk and I'll add them to the mailing list and keep them updated with ticket details etc. Karl Adam. (21/11/01)

Gazza's Going Nowhere

I spoke with Bill Manning at Tampa last night who informed me that their link to Gazza has no truth in it, they're after Le Tissier !! Daniel Fletcher. (17/11/01)

Kevin Campbell & Racism

Just read MBEs article on SuperKev and racism in general. It is good to see non-racist views expressed in this environment, i.e. a bluenose environment. I've been an Evertonian since birth and will be till I die. I am also black
and have suffered at the hands of Toffee bigots.

In the glory days of the mid-eighties, I was in my early teens, I had a paper round to pay for match tickets (6 days a week mornings and evenings and Sunday mornings -get the violins out) and hardly ever missed a home game. No one could doubt my loyalty, love or passion but I was driven out of Goodison by the incessant racism of my so-called blue-brothers. To my recollection, when John Barnes joined Liverpool, a sizeable minority of bluenoses got militant. The final straw for me was being handed a leaflet, in the enclosure of all places, saying 'Keep Everton White'. It was all too much for me and I stayed away until 97.

Even now at Goodison and away games - I hear cat calls at Campbell - not about whether he's lazy or anything else, that's OK, Kev's fair game especially as he's captain. I hear n*gger and black this that and the other. If I can see who made the shout, I always challenge - but it feels like it is just me fighting this battle and no-one else ever speaks to back me up.

If we genuinely want to tackle racism in a football environment, the only way to do so is to challenge it each and every time it manifests itself and if someone else is challenging it, back him or her up. That it's a grand ole team to support is difficult to maintain when fellow supporters are screaming racist abuse at the team. The worst thing is, every time I hear this ignorant, ill-mannered, vile, puerile, gutter shite spout from people's
mouths, it makes me feel sick. In calling Campbell a n*gger, they're calling me and every other black person a n*gger. I can't help but to take it personally - I have no choice.

I'm a Dad now, to two young aspiring blue-noses, but I question, how can I take my kids into an environment like this? Do we not measure whether or not a civilization truly is civilized by the way it treats it's children? Same rules apply at the football as far as I'm concerned. Would I voluntarily take my kids into an environment where they are going to hear all this? I think not. How can I teach my kids to love the blues when they will see and hear people wearing the same football strips as them using racist abuse and other people around them apparently accepting it? What about all the other kids, the white kids, are we teaching them that this is acceptable behaivour? I might be more persuaded to take the family if i saw that other people joined me in condemning the bigots, but this is not what happens.

The true question is, do we have the will? Are there really enough of us who treat the racist abuse with the contempt it deserves? If yes, and I pray that it is yes, then we have to back each other up. No man is an Island and we will not be effective in tackling this issue if we do not act together, as a collective, in rounding on the racists and by sheer force of numbers, making them shut-up.

MBE - I couldn't agree more, we need to take care of our own house before we can tell anyone else anything about theirs. Thomas. (17/11/01)

Jespers Dodgy Knee

Its known in the game as Gary Shaw Knee....He,s fucked. Somebody tell Walter. John Walsh. (15/11/01)

Give The Kids A Go

We said it all last season, when we had, how many players out? And how many of the kids were given, what may be for some their only, chance to shine on the big stage. How many more young players will be allowed to leave without ever proving their worth. Literally! A few years back, Jeffers and Jevons were our regular strike force. They've gone. Gavin McCann's knocking on the international door, and the other c..t was allowed to piss off to Fulham. The list goes, and will go on. Why, when we won the reserves league last year, are any of them not being (blue)blooded when the opportunity is there? If the time is not right to see what Nick Chadwick can do,and given a decent run, then you can guarantee he'll be the next one leaving for buttons and coming back to haunt us in a few seasons time.
Time to be bold Walter. Take the plunge. You'll get far more support and backing from us, the lifeblood, than if you start bleating about the injury crisis, when the next one kicks in. It seems to be starting already(injuries that is). So give them a chance. We would like to see them. Park End Bill. (15/11/01)

Time For Chadwick

As it looks likely that Super Kev & Big Dunc will miss the Chelsea game. Are we going to see yet another team formation change. Will the Rad be up front on his jack jones? Is'nt it time to give the boy Chadwick a go?
Keep up the work of the good Kipper! Yorkshire Blue.(15/11/01)

The Echo

What's wrong the redshite echo. I think I know. Its published for reds by reds and I wouldn't buy chips if they were wrapped in it. Is that angry enough.all its good for is cleaning shite of your crocodile shoes.bluekipper keep up the good work you lot are getting better than w.s.a.g. and that says something all the best j.nail p.s. that guy marko, great guy, great guy.keep it flowing man. J.Nail. (14/11/01)

Mickey Blue Eyes

Just read MBE's racism piece, and couldn't agree more, particularly regarding Campbell's supposed 'laziness'. I sit in the Park End and hear some shite occasionally, but the way I see it, the fella tires quicker than some 'cos he is patently still carrying some injury. He always gives 100%, and that's why I love players like him (see B Horne) and hated players like Cottee, who clearly had ability, but was a lazy bastard. (I also had a spell of hating Sheedy, but somehow he always got out of it - Cottee didn't). In interviews, Campbell comes across as a really nice fella, and a couple of people who have 'met' him in town have said he spoke with them, gave them a bit of time, was genuinely pleasant, even though he was out with his family, and probably had other more important things to do. This is why he is the ideal captain. Genial, polite and committed to the Blue cause. This doesn't escape the fact however, that his current bad run should see Ferguson in the starting line-up, with Campbell on the bench. Then if Ferguson fails to cut the mustard, or Campbell shows more in training, revert to the former line up. That's the way it should be for every player at every club, no matter the colour of skin. One thing I would disagree with MBE on, though, is his assertion that Smith will drop a player when he is not playing well, as he doesn't have favourites. I think it's been proven a few times he clearly does have faves (playing Gough when he went through a bad spell, bringing Gazza on for no apparent reason v's Villa and Ncastle and more) and also the other way (not playing Ball, Tal, Simonsen - 'til recently - Hibbert when Watson was injured, and many other times re. the young reserves). It's the same thing with his persistence to do a 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 or even 4-3-3 until recently going 4-4-2 which is what 80% of us have been begging for for 2 years. He wants to show his authority and try to prove he is the one who is right. Mostly over the last 2 years he hasn't been, but I'm going right off the subject so I'll stop.Cheers, Greg. (14/11/01)

Racism

I agree completely about the racism side of the barracking of Kevin Campbell, although I am not too sure about whether his present form warrants a place in the first team at the moment. I do not think Walter Smith would drop him come what may, after making him Captain, (probably a backward step for SuperKev) as he obviously hasn't completely got over his injury. A couple of seasons ago with the chances he has had he would be leading the Premiership goalscorers chart.
I will now come to my hobby horse, give the youngsters a go. I.e. The goal scorers from the reserves and under 19's, by not playing another recognised striker at Bolton we gave away 2 points. ALSO THE BEST FORM OF DEFENCE IS ATTACK. Jim Farley Studley. (14/11/01)

Where are they now?

I'd just like to say a big ha-fucking-ha to Jeffer's and Barmby, who after their recent 'big moves' have found themselves to be no more than fringe playing subs at their new clubs. I hope they both rot in the reserves.
I'd also like to mention gary-gary-shithouse-speed, he also left to achieve bigger and better things...from one true Evertonain to another, nice move mate.forever blue, matt, london. (14/11/01)
