Bucharest

For all the highs and lows that we've had over the last 15 or so years, I've never once found myself embarrassed to be an Everton fan. So why did Everton do that to me on Thursday night? No passion, no commitment. The players have to have a long look at themselves.

The thing that's unique about our club is that despite the team (regularly) letting us down we come back time and time again in our tens of thousands. All we ask is that they meet us halfway. The majority of us realistic fans don't expect us to win championships yet but we DO expect that every player in that Blue shirt gives 100%. This is not currently happening.

So I just have one thing to say to Davey and the boys: We the fans will be back so it's time to show us where YOUR passion and commitment is because there was not a single ounce evident during Thursday's second half. Martin Roberts (19/09/05)

Loyal Fans

I am only 14 years old but I have been supporting the blues for a few years now. I live in New Zealand so I rarely see Everton play, but I catch a live match whenever it is broadcast. It pisses me off that because of our current plight I get laughed at by two of my mates who follow spurs and the redshite, even though we did better than both those sides in the league last season. The players must realise that they cannot rest on the laurels of 2004-05 and that they must continue to repay their hard working manager and their loyal fans who fill Goodison or get up at 3 am to see them play each week. Jack in Auckland. (19/09/05)

Underdogs

I was as gutted as much as every blue after thursday's horror show, but now is the time to get back behind the team, no blaming individuals...on paper we're better than last season...the players we've got rid of are ageing and
the players we've brought in are pretty much all internationals but will need time to settle..Nuno Valente made his debut just 24 hours after meeting his team mates and with an injury to boot, yet at the pompey game I heard moans claiming he was just as bad as pistone...please give him a chance!he has won the champions league so is obviously decent at least!players wont gain confidence if everyone is getting on their back. But if the team is supported with encouragement and passion we can achieve anything..ie last season..also suggestions that moyes should be sacked are ridiculous!he's the best manager we've ever had and is only young..he himself is learning. This
is his first taste of managing a team in europe and he was a bad refereeing decision away from getting us into the champions league!..who would blues fans expect to replace moyes?...look at the managers before him...walter guided us to relegation battles season after season, Kendall's last spell was a shambles, Royle was average (FA cup aside) and it isn't even worth mentioning Mike Walker!..Moyes however has kept us up after taking over a sinking ship season 1, 2nd season took us to 7th and after a hiccup in his 3rd season managed to guide us to 4th and champions league qualifiers! No one else could have taken us to 4th last season!...so now after a few bad results on the spin...were back to where we've got used to being..underdogs..but isn't that the way we've always liked it?...we've got 34 games left in the league!plenty of time to win points!...arsenal ain't gonna be easy but please get behind the team!...its a grand old team to play for its a grand old team to support! STEVE-0

Get Down To Goodison

I am mailing this to ask if you can write an appeal on the site. This appeal would focus on the fans that have no faith and think were already out of europe! There needs to be some sort of appeal to get fans into Goodison on the 29th! This game is not over, and the fact of it is, its only half time. I know it doesn't look good for us and we haven't scored four either at home in the league since we beat charlton 4-1, or away since i cant remember when, but the only chance we have is if we all get together and support the team!

I really hope you can find time to maybe write an article or appeal for the site as this is the only hope we have to turn round all our disappointment, especially for the likes of us who were out there. i will be writing to a few other fan sites to see if they can do the same to see if we can get a full house in there. We know we can do it with the fans there, if we can do it against Bayern Munich in 45minutes! then the bin men of bucharest should be no problem with a full house. Thanks. Stephen Mcconville. Debacle

Having read most of your emails - I don't think I could say much that hasn't been said. I too am a nearly 50 yr old Evertonian and Thursdays nights defeat must rank as one of the lowest points during those all those years. Apart from a spell in the 60s and the glory years of the 80s - lets be honest its been generally tough - so we are used to the bad times. Last year was different though. At the end of the season we all had genuine reasons for optimism. Clearly the Boards and Moyes ambitions did not match those of the fans. The inept dithering of Moyes, Wyness and Kenwright has been a disgrace and they have let us down. Any-one can see that we have missed Gravesen (6 wins since he left) and the urgent need for a striker. Its no use blaming Beattie - he could never be expected to play the lone striker role in the fashion that Bent can. Moyes has proved to be a good coach but does not have the nouse for big dealings in the transfer market - put simply he has 'bottled' it. I don't know where we go from here. Of course we'll all be there for the 2nd leg and beyond - but brace yourselves because the 'good times have gone. As the wag who sat behind me in the Portsmouth game said ' I can deal with the despair - its the hope I cant stand'. Bones - Aigburth. (19/09/05)

Reaction after Bucharest

OK, it was embarrassing (I had to sit in front of millions in my Everton shirt, risking ridicule, only two days later, on Soccer A.M). OK so I only go to the London games. But I have also been a supporter for over 40 years.

I love this club as I love my wife. OK, so she will get old and fat. She will get cantankerous. She will turn nasty on me. She will fart in mixed company. She will do lots, lots more. But I love her now, will always love her and will never leave her. Enough said. Regards Peter Shram. (19/09/05)

Bring in the Youngsters

Moyes needs to get it sorted out an quick I have been watching shite for too long now. Kilbane fuck him off. Get rid of weir as well and bring that Mark Hughes in defence. If we get beat by Wigan I think Moyes will walk out. We should have bought Robbie Keane. We had the money there i think or are Everton trying to blag the fans again as they often do. Get rid off Kenwright. He's wasting my time. Kev from fazakerley. (19/09/05)

£20 or £25

Can anyone please tell me why I should pay £25 notes £5 more than a season a ticket holder to go to the home leg with Bucharest? Bill Riley. (19/09/05)

Pain Is Everton

Pain is - Marriage, Pain is - sexual frustration Pain is -watching Everton play the way they are doing!

What i witnessed on Thursday was utter crap Soon as dinamo's 2nd goal went in Weir's head went down for the rest of the game as had 9 other players - the only 1 i can excuse is Nige Martyn he was left exposed by the defence each goal. Anyway back to Weir wasn't he the captain 2 seasons ago when we had just avoided relegation and wasn't it Stubs captain last season. Weir IS NOT a captain his leadership skills are diabolical, and on Thursday it showed there was no communication OR determination, he's past his sell-by date and he should give the captaincy to someone with some battle in them like Dunc or Cahill OR if he does return in January- Tommy Grav. WEIR DO THE RIGHT THING AND HAND OVER YOUR CAPTAINS ARMBAND! Maverick. (19/09/05)

Nil Satis

About the Blues, still cant believe it, but we`ve got to get over it and get a sense of perspective, I honestly would have taken 8th 9th place at the start of the season, and a bit of a run in Europe and/or domestic cups, not lowering my standards just realistic, and I still think we`ll finish around there. I know we finished 4th but lets get it right there's nothing between 4th and 10th quality wise in the premier league NOTHING, and when your just sneaking 1-0`s like we were it`s great, but on occasion it`ll be 1-0 the other way ( still no excuse for 5 fuckin 1 though)

it`s gonna take Time, and patience and Moyes, all these bueats calling for him to be sacked want to get a grip/life. Have a look on toffeeweb, it defies belief, the mailbag full of people calling for his head. These are either sky generation knobhead, or people with the retention of a fuckin goldfish, do they not remember the state we were (are) in on and off the field and if they hate it all that much then they should just fuck off, don't want
em, I know you pay your money and your entitled to your opinion and all that, but why pay extortionate prices ( and they are) to just come and moan and criticise, if we get beat shout at em yes, but don't from the first 5
fuckin minutes slag em off!! all this crap sell Kilbane, Pistone, Hibbert etc, we know there not the best, but again get a grip, as hard as some people find it to understand, not everybody in the whole world feels the same about Everton as us, and they don't all want to play for us, we cant sign a new fuckin team every season.

we`ll be ok with Moyes and unless an Abrahmovich comes along for us it`ll take years and years (if ever) for us to challenge for the title, champions league etc, and like I say if you don't like it/cant understand it then fuck off to
anfield with the other gobshites. We will lose games, there will be hard times, 5-1 is unacceptable but last
year if somebody had of told you we`d been getting knocked out of the Uefa (never mind the Champions League) cup, you`d have been delighted, coz it would have been hard to believe we`d stayed up, never mind qualified thru the league. We are making progress, but it`s going to take time. Anyway off me soapbox, COYB. Blue in Brazil. (19/09/05)

Disappointing

I sat at home watching all full of hope that Everton would win we were unlucky against villareal and dinamo were no villareal but would be tough
but to be beat 5-1 was shocking heart breaking and disgusting.. everyone goes on about how we needed a striker and yes we do but players moyes spoke to wanted to much money or the clubs wanted to much money for players and Moyes did the right thing by not paying over the odds like newcastle paying players £60 grand a week that's stupidity and leads to heavy debuts witch Everton are in but just not as bad.. and am reading people critise valente already how can u get on his back after too games he a quality player who when he finds his feet will be an asset and i do see the potential in Mcfadden he is a terrific young player who just needs games to build his confidence up Cahill looks tired and needs a rest and phil neville as good as he is is not Tommy Gravesen and as for weir he should be a bench warmer not captain of the team he is not a leader he's not got the pace and he is way to past it.

Can Everton get anything from the arsenal game? yes if they play hard and perform to the standards the players them self have set and wigan we can beat them and also i do believe if everton attack dinamo they can overturn it i still believe will always believe in the team. Kieron Ackerley. Dundee Scotland. (19/09/05)

Performance Related Pay

I have supported Everton all my life with passion and desire through the good times which there haven't been many of and the bad times. If I was embarrassed and ashamed what do the players think, they don't give a f*** because they will still get their wages at the end of the game. I don't know about anyone else but I think all footballers should be paid on a performance related pay: if they don't play then no pay! I was embarrassed watching the Portsmouth game also it was bad enough having to pay £32.00 for my 10 year old daughter to watch them due to having no seats left for children!!!! If we can't beat the likes of Portsmouth at home I really fear for the club. We went off to Europe with hopes and dreams and were shattered at the first post by the inept lazy overpaid prima donnas! I find it hard to believe that this is the same group of players who got us into Europe. Devastated Kenny Mercer. (19/09/05)

A Question Of Honour

We now have a mixture of British and European players. The British players will be aware of the pedigree of Everton football club, the European players - perhaps not. They will all however be acquainted with the concept of honour. So as another Evertonian of 40 years who feels much the same way as Martin O'Collins. (17/09/05) I would like to appeal to the players sense of honour. You see its not just your individual honour that is at stake, its ours (the fans) also and we can´t fight for our honour on the pitch - we are depending on you. Have we got a champion among you players? - I hope so, If we have he will show himself over the next few weeks. Laurie from Oz. (19/09/05)

Team for Arsenal

After seeing our probable team for the Le Arse game my glimmer of hope for a rebound in fortune was all but extinguished. All the usual suspects were named in the squad and I can only hope the gunners are off target. I am flabbergasted that anyone who knows anything about our game would rate Bent, Osman or Kilbane. If Moyes requirement from a central striker is the ability to run fast he may as well go for an Olympic athlete. We could save a fortune in wages with no reduction in goal scoring and possibly a gain in skill level. A lump of wood could replace Kilbane and even that would give a plus in commitment. Physical strength and tackling is not expected nor got from Osman therefore a local beauty queen could do his job. She might distract opponents from doing to us what they normally do and perhaps raise some player passion that has been missing of late. Despite saying that, I, like all true blues wish the best of luck to whoever wears the Everton shirt. Cheers, Dick. (19/09/05)

A Letter From 'Down Under'

Bugger me cobbers!!!, Just spent the morning reading all the negative letters re the Dinamo game, Strewth, you'd have though we just got relegated!!. Sure we were shithouse in the second half, really dire, but geez, we've got a long season ahead and two or three WORLD class players to come into the team. It will take time for the lads to get used to how each other plays, Neville has been out a couple, Beatts is still not fit, but WILL be the striker we are all screaming for when he is fit. Kroldrup and Van der Meyde are yet to play and it will all take time to gel. Dinamo was a one off, I will put money on us getting the 4 goals in the second leg, these types of teams are notoriously poor away from home. Davies is still not right, he is reportedly playing with pain killing injections for shin splints?? Timmy the Blue Kangaroo is probably still recovering from jet lag having flown half way round the planet a couple of times and playing plenty of football when his body would have been saying sleeeep.

1 storm doesn't make a winter and when all the lads have had time to gel, I think we will have a team capable of repeating last years feats. Look at the table, we are not in the worst shape, there have been the usual array of mixed results to start the year. Hopefully we can take something off the Arse, we have 7 very good reasons for playing out of our skins don't we. Remember back to the Villareal game?? we played superb in the second half, and had that baldy-bastard narcistic piece of shite Collina not invented some BS reason to rub out the yin's goal, we would have finished all over the top of them.

Naturally the lads are going to be feeling a bit low after that, we gave everything and came up short due a the worst reffing decision in the history of the CL as one scribe wrote. It will turn around and we will have a team to be really proud of, just be grateful you are going to see it live instead of having to get up at 1 in the morning to listen to the world service or when we're really lucky watch it on Foxtel!. And yes, I have spent many many years on the street end before I headed down under so I DO understand the frustrations of being an Evertonian, but we HAVE had success 60's and 80's especially the 80's when we were the best team in Europe hands down, unfortunately a few morons attached to the Red Shite cost us the opportunity to prove it beyond all doubt. What would you rather be, an Evertonian with the proud history and devotion for our club who has seen success, or a
Charlton or Fulham or Villa fan, who have never, and probably will never get that opportunity??? Once a Blue, Always a Blue. Kris Everton (aka Kris Wetton)
. (19/09/05)

The Lucky 200

For all those who got left behind, you can count yourself the fortunate few, not that you knew it at the time. The club don't deserve the European chance, although the fans do......The players and the board members should travel with the ordinary fans, and see the what we go through to follow our Peoples Club.

The hassle of obtaining a ticket, booking flights, finding accommodation (only to find it double booked), getting time off work, arriving in Bucharest at 0400hrs, taxi drivers trying to rip you off, the currency change, 500,000 Lei or 50 Lei in new money worth the same! about £10, singing in the Jukebox Pub, voucher for tickets at the Ibis, rats everywhere, Nicolae Ceausescu's People's Palace, rabid dogs in packs on the streets and then the match! crammed in by the strazi police, and left standing in the aisle (not very safe UEFA, but do you really care), and that second half performance...Locked in after, Metro closed.....beer in the Ibis, pissed off, back to the doss house, arrive home, laughing stock.....

And when we had a team in 85, the club just accepted the European Ban, why?, it would never have worked the other way round, now would it? Mickey Knox. (19/09/05)

We Need A Goalscorer

The only thing I have to say about Everton is you don't win matches if you don't score goals and who is going to score them for us? Phil Goodall. (19/09/05)

Sack Moyes

I have supported Everton over 30 years and the Bucharest game was the most humiliating result ever. 5-1 against one of the worst teams in Europe, any decent team would have easily beaten them. Moyes has to go, he has not got a clue. Lets face it we are deep deep trouble, this is not a knee jerk reaction, we have been absolutely crap since Christmas! Let me remind all those who still believe in Moyes, Everton have won 7 Premiership games since
Boxing day. Like it or not that is relegation form. God help us this season. Can anyone actually see us getting a result in our next 6 games - Arsenal (A), Wigan (H), Man C (A), Spurs (A), Chelsea (H), Birmingham (A) A really tough set of games. Stephen Day. (19/09/05)

Get Behind The Team

We now face a fight to stay in this league, only months after qualifying for the Champions League. All I WANT to say is: Let's just get behind the Blues!! They need our support! They deserve a complete bollocking but how else are we going to get out of this? We are the biggest part of this club. Loyal Blue - for Ever, Everton. Astley. (19/09/05)

It's Been Coming For A While

This whole mess that we find ourselves in now started in the last 10 minutes away to charlton last season. Charlton had learned how to conquer our tactic of 1 man up front by simply doing the same. We ran out of ideas, Dodgy Dicky comes on for the injured Martyn[at 0-0], final score CAFC 2 EFC 0. Next up Spurs away. A foregone conclusion seeing as we hadn't won there in almost 2 decades. Dodgy Dicky still in for Martyn. Final score THFC 5 EFC 1. Now I don't wasn't to come across a prophet of doom and gloom but once we had reached the 40 point mark it all seemed to go downhill. We were very fortunate in the fact that our closest challengers for 4th were not very good either and were losing to teams beneath them, Liverpool being the guiltiest of this when they could have overtaken us on numerous occasions. As the season drew to an end I was convinced liverpool would overtake us and at even one stage Bolton but after a couple of monumentous win, most notably against Man U and Newcastle we staggered across the line[again with a little help from our Spanish neighbours] and claimed 4th spot.

This should have been the catalyst for a bright future but the very next game after qualifying for the champions league we suffer our worst EVER defeat. 7- 0 at Arsenal. It was easy to say at the time that this game didn't matter but you have to look at the bigger picture and go back to Charlton and cracks were appearing then. We lost Gravesen who had suddenly become the driving force and only replaced him months later with Arteta. Beattie came in and the only impact he made was with the back of Gallas head and that was it. Faith was kept in the players who had brought us this far but were now looking weary. Now back to May and the last game of the season and a 3-2 defeat at Bolton means we end up with a minus goal difference in 4th spot. That tells its own story. Still,we finish 4th which theoretically means we are the 4th best team in the country and more importantly, to most, above and better than Liverpool. Then came that infamous night in Istanbul and we might as well have finished 4th from bottom. If ever their was a game that had absolutely no baring on our plight yet felt like we had lost everything then this was it. This was supposed to be OUR season but again, at the death, we had been upstaged, albeit without kicking a ball, by ......you know who. That sick feeling still hasn't left me.

The close season, everyone hoped, would see world class players moving to a team that were in the Champions League and going places. When Parker didn' t sign everyone said he had no ambition but would anyone be mad enough to leave their job for half the money. Emre felt that Inter toto was better than Champions League [aswell as £50,000 a week]. Bellamy ,Sissoko, Johnson, Keane and many more linked but none came. A quiet panic was setting in amongst the fans which wasn't helped by a 5-0 defeat in Turkey. We kept the faith and got the big signing we wanted. PISTONE.

So to the new season. Villareal at home. Champions League here we come, 1 man up front, at home, at home AT HOME. Man U at home, very unlucky. Bolton, very lucky. Villareal away and again very unlucky and it stops there. We still play 1 up front at Fulham and lose to a goal from a striker we let go. Portsmouth was as bad as I thought it could get but Bucharest will surely go down in the black museum of Everton defeats. I know this letter goes on but like I said earlier it's the bigger picture and going back to the very beginning 1 man up front. We should have moved on, bought new players, paid wages for players, changed tactics but we never. Instead we re signed a player who was never good enough. bought injured players and can only look at P Neville as a good signing.
NO PROGRESS, NO AMBITION NO HOPE. [NIL SATIS NISI OPTIMUM] POOHYBUM. (19/09/05)

Uefa Cup

To see Davie Moyes sicker than me, should make the players who let us down feel like packing in football and sodding off . Keep the faith? It seems that some players, according to dear old Stubbsy, don't care to be told what to do by Moysie. They are conning the fans, who would have to be shot to stop them playing for Everton for nothing . They all played for their contracts yet I bet none of them were pacing the floor all night like Jacob Marley , wringing their hands and moaning . I was .I love Everton , I love Moysie, at the moment I don't think much of the players. Sadly they pro bably don't care .P.S Bill Kenwright,he is one of us give him a break Once a blue , always a blue .They need us .. John Benson. (19/09/05)

Leave Moyes Alone

The tossers who cry all the time, for FS we finished higher in the league than we should have the miracle Moyes performed are not done every week, give me a break, We need more time to blood the new players then you moaning K. N. T. S. can jump back on the gravy train. COYRB. (19/09/05)

Bucharest Horror Fiasco

Lets face it last season we were incredibly lucky to attain fourth place even though it was an incredible achievement but luck cant count against technically gifted teams like (hate to say it )villareal and of course Dinamo whose direct attacking play was to much for our defence to cope with. We need to stop trying to play like were in a fight going out all guns blazing then tiring in the second half only for teams to exploit our weaknesses. WE NEED TO START PLAYING FOOTBALL. MIKE. ST HELENS. (19/09/05)

Support

While I, along with every Evertonian in the land are devastated and embarrassed by the events that unfolded on Thursday night, I am disappointed to hear lots of "supporters" saying they are not going to bother going to the home leg! I totally understand why but look at how close Celtic came to overturning their deficit and what better way to show some of the players who do not yet have the club in their blood what it means to us, the real fans!!
If we fill Goodison on the night and raise the roof who knows what might happen? Bent might eve get a hat-trick, ok now I am being stupid, but I am sure we will have a better chance with 40,000 fans there than with 4,000!
And Beattie prove us all wrong and get your act together stand up and be counted! sore toe my arse!! if I stayed off work with a sore toe I'd get sacked!!!! Matt (season ticket & second leg ticket lower Gwladys)

Call ya self an Evertonian

You're all fuckin kopites! David Moyes taken us as far as he is going to - bollox! and boycottin the home games to wigan - idiots! if anything we should be getting behind the blues! "Call ya self an Evertonian" i wouldnt! come on the blue boys! R. Parkinson. (19/09/05)

Simple

If we had a player who could finish a wank then we would kill off poor teams like dynamo. We should have been three nil up by half time, GAME OVER!, but we have never replaced Gary Lineker, G sharp, etc. For about 15 years now we have wasted millions on trying to find a goalscorer at a bargain price like Bakayoko, Radsinski, Beetie,Ferguson we could have got shearer, a genuine goalscorer, all them years ago for less than what we have wasted on very average forwards, and he would have been far better value than the aforementioned.

We are now over the next ten years going to spend 20/30 million on more average strikers and we will continue to be average, or maybe we could have just offered Real Madrid 18 million for owen and put him on the same wages we was prepared to pay W Rooney and never have had to buy a striker again for however many years. Donna Marie. (19/09/05)

Euro-trash (part deux)

Maybe my first post after the 5-1 slaying by Dynamo was a reflex, a knee jerk reaction. However I've calmed down and had a good think about things. I think it is important for David Moyes and the team to have the full support of the fans, he has got results and turned our fortunes around. However it doesn't stop me from being very pissed off and in need of a moan.

See, the thing is, I'm not one of the 'pessimists coming out of the woodwork' referred to by Finbar Brown 'Over Reaction' (who I agree with in many respects) I think I'm one of the many Evertonians who have watched some questionable performances towards the back end of last season (Blackburn at home West Brom away Arsenal away and the like, mixed in with very good wins against Newcastle, Crystal Palace and an away win against Aston Villa, against who we were awesome) and the start of this and thought why are we not more assertive at home? Why does no match ever feel like its in the bag.

I watched on over the summer to see who we would buy, who we would draw in the Champions League qualifier, thinking that finally the drought is over, no more relegation battles, this is our time to get back amongst the top teams in the country. Roll on the new season!

We played well against United, had chances, but didn't score. same against Villarreal at home, got pounded by Bolton but got the win, were unlucky against Villarreal away, got beat by Fulham away, where shite against Portsmouth at home (Dario Silva on a free would have done us!) Then Dynamo away. As I said in 'Euro-trash' we controlled the first half and capitulated awfully in the second. For me and it seems a few other people it was the final negative substandard performance I could take. Weir is done, he's good at heading balls away, on the deck its a different story. Get Neville in for Hibbert, I think Tony is struggling for form and has been for a while. Yobo has undoubted quality he just needs some help and Valente is new and needs time, I don't doubt his pedigree, though he's probably not to happy with Jose Mourinhos friendly advice of who to join. We have Kroldrup and Ferrari to come in so its not all bad, though its difficult to hypothesise how untried, though proven international players would do in the Premiership.

Yes I was disappointed we didn't sign a striker before the deadline, but I was impressed with Kroldrup, Arteta, Van Der Meyde, Valente, Davies, Ferrari and Neville. After all we finished 4th last season without an out and out goal scorer and we had Beattie to come back. We had retained most of last seasons squad and despite the lack of a new striker I thought we had a team well worth a top half finish, maybe a UEFA cup slot. Indeed despite everything I still think this is possible.

However, on the strength of what I have seen this season I do not see where the apparent improvement has been made. With the formation we play we rely on a significant contribution from midfield, an area which we have improved greatly, at least on paper. The only problem is that Van Der Meyde is injured, Davies hasn't started as well has we would have hoped, Carsley is injured and Phil Neville is a fullback come midfielder. Personally I think Kilbane is a long way short of what we need on the left as both an attacking and defensive player. Lumping high diagonal balls to him worked a few times but its a bit clapped out now. Osman lacks pace and strength, but has an eye for goal. I just don't see him as first choice. As for Tim Cahill. He was a God last season but has been very unfairly slated already this season. However only for some brilliant goalkeeping he may have 3 or 4 goals. (why is he playing world cup qualifiers against the Solomon's - I know its his choice)

All this aside, it is easy for me to sit here and be critical of players who were stalwarts last season. However progression involves continuous evolution. Grafting, effort and determination will get you only so far, it is the addition of quality that provides the ultimate step between mid table and top 6. At the highest level quality must be evident in all areas of the pitch, after that comes strength in depth and quality on the bench. No matter what, it is the first eleven that must be the starting point and that is where I think we have tripped up. Several of our probable best eleven are out injured so we must rely on others to fill the void. The only problems with this is that when the top players come back the damage is sometimes already done, and when you play defensively and let in goals you have no chance.

I don't want to be negative or despondent. I hope the supporters get behind the manager and the team. David Moyes is still a very talented young manager and has the nucleus or a quality side. Remember he negative press Alan Curbishley was getting last season, but after a great start he is being touted for the England job.

A good start to the season is important, but it isn't the be all and end all. Patience is the key, but in the modern era were money is the driving force patience is usually in short supply. Come on Everton!
Shep. (19/09/05)

Why Us?

No one said being an Evertonian was easy, but for once in so many years , we had the long hot summer to puff our chests out with pride and say”I support Everton” without being laughed at.

We all new really that Champions League would be a step to far at present and we gave a half decent account of ourselves and other teams supporters almost felt sorry for us,including some kopites, but that display in Romania put us all back on top of the humiliation chart. It worries me firstly that our manager could not see how woeful defensively they were and did not change the system to play 2 up front and that at 2-1 or even 3-1 he did not shut shop and take it back to Goodison with some chance,no , he puts Big Dunc on to try and get another goal back, very nieve.

It also worries me greatly that my 10 year old son, born 4 months after our last silverware will never see Everton Football Club lift a major trophy in his lifetime. I don’t know the answers but I hope someone within the hallowed walls of our beloved club does. Ste Walsh. (19/09/05)

Waking up to Moyes

Well well, it looks like the "kings new clothes" are wearing thin...very thin. I am a lifelong blue and always will be. BUT..I will not be going to Goodison while Mr.Moyes continues as "manager?". I saw the writing on the wall when we played Blackburn at Ewood when we won !-0 with KC scoring. Second half it was "backs to the wall lads lets defend this ONE goal!" since then I have noticed that if we ever go in front....it's always "backs to the wall lads!" Which seems to be Mr.Moyes only tactic. It happened in Bucharest. We finished 4th last season..HOW?? WE PLAYED SHITE THE WHOLE SEASON! And you all know it! Bucharest was a complete embarrassing disgrace...We aren't ready for Europe. That was obvious all last season. I can take the scorn of the redshite because I am a proud blue and they will never get to me. What I cannot take is Mr.Moyes anymore. While he talks a good game he is tactically inept. I will not be setting foot in Goodison till he goes. To be honest I wasn't even shocked at our display in Bucharest...but obviously I didn't expect to be thrashed! All we need is FOUR goals......last time we scored FOUR....we got beat 5-4!! doesn't look good does it? No I won;t be at Goodison to see what may prove to be the last euro game for a very very very long time..what will I be missing?

Tell me this...why don't we see an Everton goal on "Goal of the month"? Because they don't show goals knocked in within the 6 yard box! Why is it Rooney and others score great goals?..because they have a go! something our players don't seem to be able to do or are told my our useless manager not to ! Walk it in? we haven't the players or the skill to do that. every other team hits it from anywhere esp against us! Can't wait for the Wigan game...not that I'm going.....bye bye Mr. Moyes. Oh and while I am at it when Pistone (not mispelt) left all blues breathed a sigh of relief....and applauded..what does Mr. Moyes do? We all know that one... Platty. (19/09/05)

Slump

We all sound like a bunch of redshite. All those who say sack Moyes should be shot. Get behind him and the team it's just a slump. KEEP THE FAITH. Tom Russell 16. (19/09/05)

Moaning Blues

I know we are all pissed off with the current situation,i include myself in that statement, but calling for sackings etc that so many of you seem to be calling for,is not the way forward, yes we are playing crap yes we are not scoring goals etc etc,but get over it the only thing that matters is the next game the next match the next challenge, mountains still to climb, and i for one will be right there cheering the boys on and right now that's what they need,so come on get behind the BLUES,it could be worse, you could be a red shite fan,and i would not wish that on anyone!! Maximus Wirral. (19/09/05)

Strikers

If another striker had been bought in the trs window, the team selections still would have been one upfront running his arse off - alone - looking for scraps. Hearl. (19/09/05)

Here We Go Again (Part 960000000)

OH ITS OVER!! WE'RE ALL FUCKING DOOMED!!! MAN THE LIFEBOATS!!!!! CALL THE POLICE!!!! SOME OF YOU LOT MAKE ME FUCKING SICK!! Ok, so we lost, got hammered, left embarrassed and hurt by Everton - so whats new? The calls for Moyes' head (the same man who was a fucking Moyesiah a few short weeks ago) are pointless, stupid and above all reminiscent of the Redshite or the Barcode Morons. GET A GRIP!!

Yes, the second half was absolute comedy, total shite and we all had to face the fucking laughing hyena's from across the park the morning after. Call me whatever, but I saw enough in the first half to believe that we CAN beat them at Goodison. We need to fill the ground with 40,000 passionate fans ready to sing, shout and put their vocal chords through hell to drive the players on. The players have been left under NO ILLUSION as to what we expect from them (they couldn't even face the fans through an airplane window - although credit to Weir for having the guts to speak)and they know they have to deliver something akin to pride - even if we don't make it through then 2-0 or 3-0 is the least they should be aiming for.

NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR HAVING A GO AT MOYES - its not over until its over and remember what the Redshite did to AC Milan? Unless of course you all believe they are so far superior to us that we can't pull off the same
trick? If the above is what you believe then may I direct you to the football stadium across Stanley Park where you can enjoy watching a team in Red.

ITS NOT ONLY THE PLAYERS THAT NEED TO SHOW PRIDE AND BELIEF IN THE RETURN LEG - BUT THE FANS AS WELL. Good Luck to The Blues for Monday and the rest of the season. Bill Davies. (19/09/05)

Ugh !

Look, for some reason no one is willing to say it and/or admit it. I am going to bloody say it right now. Thomas Gravesen left Everton in january 2005. We have been crap ever since. We were brilliant against Man Ure and Aston Villa after he left but that was it. We have been poor ever since he left. I love Arteta and have no idea why he played no part in the Romanian debacle. Point being, Kevin Kilbane was brought on to save the game, and Arteta is the only player in our squad who has natural skill and ability. Phil Neville? Every time I see his name I see 52 caps!
Yeah, they were 52 caps at left and right back. What right does he have to think that his best position is centre mid when Alex Ferguson, Kevin Keegan, Glenn Hoddle, Howard Wilkinson, Peter Taylor, and Sven Eriksson didn't think so! Ian, Drinking in LA @ 26! Nil Satis Nisi Optimum. (19/09/05)

Reduce Prices

Start the campaign now - talk is cheap, get the players and the club to put their money where their mouths are - reduce the ticket price for the return leg at Goodison to £5 - with the shortfall made up from the players own
pockets. PIG IN A WHEELBARROW. (19/09/05)

Disgraceful

When the first half started, i thought we were going to absolutely destroy them. Even when the 2nd goal came in the second half, i still had hope. But suddenly, goals were flying in. The defence were unsure, the midfield didn't support and considering the forwards, we need to buy asap! In school, all blue fans got an unbelievable amount of stick. And next match is against a much better team than Dinamo, Arsenal!!! Moyesy plz do something fast!!! Btw is that Chris Fisher from Dubai? Omar. (19/09/05)

Bucharest

I've had enough. I feel angry and ashamed. How could my beloved Everton do this to me and its other fans? It is gonna be a f*****g long time before i can put the shirt on. My wristbands have come off and are now lying in my drawer. And now comes the feeling of dejection. Christ, Arsenal on Monday and another hiding. I seriously give up.
Stuey Day. (19/09/05)

Last Thursday

I have read all of the reactions to last night's game and am struggling to come up with an answer also. I live in the USA in a fairly well represented English community. We have fans of most premiership teams in our area. This season it was my turn to do the shouting as there are only two of us blues. The other blue played for them for ten years. We get to see most of the league games but suffer the Euro games. I managed to see the Villareal games on the internet and we seemed as though we had a purpose and wanted to win. We lost through a bad referee decision. Surely that decision did not rip the hearts out of our superstars. The fans still believed. We were still in Europe, just not the real Europe. I saw nothing negative from the fans on the message boards. They are the most positive fans on the planet. Sadly their dedication is wasted. I don't want to single out managers or directors and point fingers saying that they are useless. They too are Evertonians. But something is missing that other big clubs have. Is it the scouting system? I don't know. How are Wigan ahead of us in the league. No knock to Wigan.Just want to know. What is going through the players minds ahead of Mondays game against Arsenal. Are they hoping to even avenge last years score or else keep it below five this year. This really saddens me to be writing this crap as even my American friends now look for the blues scores on the web just to have a conversation with me about the "beautiful " game.

Because I don't see all of the games can someone explain about the Hibbert comments. I have always seen him as our next England player. The boards see him as someone who should be shot. Maybe I don't see enough games.
I have served my time as a blue having been a season ticket holder for many years in the seventies. I think I have the right to ask these questions. Do we need a European manager? I hope not as I love Moyes, but the bottom line is EFC. Think of the forwards we could have bought over the summer with the money we got from the ever suspended ROONEY . I love this team and hate to put them down in any way shape or form. It is becoming very difficult. Help me blues. Rich Fogg. (19/09/05)

60 Years Support

I have supported Everton, man and boy, for sixty years. In the past 38 years I have only been able to manage an average of six live games a season, usually the games against London clubs with only a couple of home games thrown in. This is due to the fact that I live near Toronto, Canada. I travelled to Bucharest to watch my beloved Toffees get a well deserved trashing at the hands of Dynamo. The last time I supported Everton in Europe I watched them lift the Cup-Winners Cup in Rotterdam. I will not be spending anymore of my pension money watching Everton. I will be enjoying the rest of my retirement sans Everton and will no longer take any interest in the misfortunes of what was once a great club. Good night Everton. Patrick Taylor Brampton, Ontario, Canada. (19/09/05)

The Rise and Fall of Everton

You all probably feel like I do and things at Goodison are not good. Looking back things have not been good since our humiliation at Highbury last season and was a sign of how far we had not come. Looking through various message boards this last week, there seems to be a huge feeling of discontent amongst the Blue Born - with a lot of this aimed at the clubs lack of ambition within the transfer market and the subsequent KO from the CL and then the humiliation on Thursday evening. Moyesy says he is looking forward to Carsley coming back - what honestly is he going to do? The weakness of the team is getting exposed week in week out and to be honest last weeks performance against Pompey was simply embarrassing. We won't mention Bucharest!

I for one have kept quiet for a while as I have said for months that this was going to happen. RELEGATION is a reality as we have purchased players who are injury prone and their recovery and time out always seems to get extended. I think that the signing of Andy VM was a pressure signing and Moyes had held back due to concerns over his fitness. This is now evident. I am not saying that he is not a quality player - but prior to his signing - who had honestly heard of him and what he was about?

The team spirit seems to at an all time low. The photo of Weir on the BBC website summed everything up. This brings back memories of the early 80's - 8,000 blues on a miserable Wednesday evening at minus 3 deg watching a very ordinary Coventry team out play us with no heart in the blue shirt. (one of a few memories Andy Nich)

What can we do? Moyesy has now said that he is at an all time low (managerial) and a relegation fight could happen(will). What happened with "we will better last years effort"???? Once again as per my previous "column" I blame the lack of ambition of the board. We were never going to get through to the Group stages of the CL - this is - in my own opinion only - what the Board was saying and Moysey's reward for last season. How good it is to reward ones employees and the shareholders - the fans.

Who knows what is in store for us on Monday. everyone is saying that Arsenal are below par - I am sure that they will embarrass us yet again. I do hope that they don't but we have to be realistic.

The Media here in Australia have said that Everton cannot simply rely on Tim Cahill and state that his lack of form is not Timmy but a reflection on the Everton Spirit and team in general. Whilst I am not a fan of Graham Arnold - I somewhat agree with that particular statement. I do not agree with him when he states that Tim is a player who needs to play football all year round. The return leg in the Solomon's was played in extreme heat and humidity. On top of that add the traveling - UK - Aus - Solomon's -Aus - UK and then play on a Saturday. Nobody can do that. Having played in the Middle East myself for 8 years in heat and humidity and traveled UK Aus on many many occasions - it does not do you any good. Tim Cahill does needs a rest and stop playing in stupid games for Australia. I think Timmy is one of our finest players for many many years but at some stage the body needs to recover.

The emphasis is now on David Moyes and his backroom staff to pick up the players - put on that blue shirt and play for what it stands for. Fortress, Kenwright and his mob can go forth and multiply as they have not captured the moment and do not have any back bone or true blue feelings for the Born Blue who turn out week in week out and expect a lot more than what his happening now. We need to nurture a formation that can be played to and kept to by the players that we have and please not the long ball. I thought that we had left this style behind some time ago. Obviously not.

I am not going to pick on individual players as this is a TEAM AFFAIR and it has been sometime since the players were booed off the field but is obviously a sign that things are not good and the confidence from the fans is also missing. Expectations we had to continue and build on a good season and not go backwards. So very much has been written on this and at this moment in time it looks like the critics, like many Evertonians could see the writing on the wall.\

Come on you Blue Boys -rise and prove us all wrong and wear that blue shirt with the pride it deserves and necessitates. Adrian Davies. Brisbane. Australia. (19/09/05)

Dinamo

What an absolute disgrace. Just arrived home after our visit to Bucharest. In over 25 years of following this (once) great Club that we all love, I can honestly say that last night was comfortably the worst night ever. Following everton all the way to Romania eas supposed to be a real special occasion for me and my mate (Andy Haler) but the violence, police and our team made the whole experience a sorry one. Obviously it’s only my opinion but I say . . . . Moyes OUT. He’s no tactical awareness his signings are not good enough and his decision making (or lack of it) is making us a laughing stock!!!!! Christian Watson. (19/09/05)

European Hangover

I couldn't write anything last night or most of today because i had to go out to try and forget what had happened! Didn't quite work but not sure how i got home. Well, the last two games have just proven that we cant play attacking football. Last season, 4-5-1 worked because we needed defensive players behind the ball, because probably most teams came to us thinking they could get a result.

Now this season, we have a little respect, and none of the players have got a clue what to do with the ball. Plenty of possession but no penetration. It got that bad last night i thought i would just start going to watch cricket. See some of the passion that Freddie and co shown in the ashes. But i thought, Everton have put me through allot of torrid times, and i have never turned my back.

So I will be going to the home leg, with another optimistic blue who always keeps the faith! I just hope the club realise they need to drop the prices for it, and 40000 Evertonians turn up to remind some of the players what being a blue is all about! Blue and proud!! PIP. (19/09/05)

Apologies and Dreams

If it wasn't bad enough having to watch the slow motion car crash that passes for our european escapade I was sent this Email from one of my five sons all of whoom support the Blues.

There are not many constants in my life, but being constantly disappointed by Everton is definitely one. One of my earliest memories is getting beat in the FA cup final by Liverpool and nothing has really changed since. I was thinking nothing has gone right for Everton since half time in the fucking European Cup final. So as far as I'm concerned it will always be half time in Istanbul and long may it remain that way.

The pain is obvious what makes it worse is that I took my two youngest to their first proper match at Goodison on Saturday to watch imposters in blue shirts. As a loving father I am asking myself why, I put my children in a position that I know, will only bring disappointment and heartache. I wonder why social services have not knocked on my door.

I never thought I would feel embarrassed to call myself a blue, yet I am ashamed of what we have become. We don't do fantasies just apologies, and as everyone is appologising I want to say sorry to my children for the years of pain and suffering they will endure because their father dared to dream. Gary Martin. (19/09/05)

What the fuck is going on?

As most letters are saying during these dark Everton times I must start by saying long after all this is faded (but not forgotten) I'll still be a Blue and so will my family. I just wonder how many of this squad, management and piss poor commercial dept when they have eventually fucked off will give us a second thought.

I've written before sounding off about our wank commercial efforts and abjectly abysmal efforts by Mork and Mindy sorry Kenshite and that "I've saved the club" Bully Wyness (by the way dickhead raisin prices all round, taking the the freebies off the kids' and sending out last years birthday cards you twat does'nt mean you've saved the club) Oops starting to lose it a bit early there. I've always stood up for Davey and the boys but I think the time has come for a bit of constructive criticism. The thing is this has been coming for quite a while now The strange thing Dave either you're the only one who couldn't or didn't want to see it. I'll try and be as objective as I can and would welcome any feedback and reaction from fellow Blue Kippers.

This isn't just based on the Dynamo performance but the general malaise that has been creeping up on us

Nige.....................Class act.
Hibbo.................. He can't tackle (effectively) can' t pass and is forever letting his man get to the by line and get crosses in to put us under pressure. Oh he' crap at heading and could'nt cross a ball if his life depended on it. And his positional sense at times is woeful.
Big Joey Yobo.................. he' like fuckin Bambi on drugs all arms and legs. Sounds a mad thing to say about a current international but has got the potential to be a great defender if we could just harness him by some one talking the game to him' went to go, step up, hold, etc.
Davey Weir...............As Frank Sinatra once said "Thanks for the Memories". He could maybe star in a remake of "The Quiet Man" cos on the pitch he isn't talking to any one.The mind might be working but body just ain't reacting quick enough any more.
Valente.............. Are you Pistone in disguise. You fuckin big tart. The way you bottled the challenge by falling over for was is the 4th or 5th will live long in the memory mind you bottled quite a lot.
McFadden.............. I'll refrain from the usual gay slurs cos this is based on a purely football "bitch" sorry could'nt resist that one..He is quite simply one of the worst if not the worst player ever to put on an Everton shirt (and I've seen some corkers Rod Belfitt, Bernie Wright, Mick Ferguson etc) as a winger he fuckin stinks he couldn't beat a fuckin egg cant tackle or cross a ball ( I feel a Hibbo theme here) but he's the champ at totally disappearing during a game.
Tiny Tim............. We know he can do it but he needs help Dave so sort it. He' lookin a shadow of his former self cos he's burning out.
Chuckle............. He's the man to sort it vocally and with his ability on the ball let get him somwhere along the back line organising these muppets.
Taffy..................Just where does this prick go to during a game and what does he offer us. Waste of space.
Ossie...............Since you signed your contract your career has gone backwards you look look you couldn't give a fuck.
Marcus.............Mate you just haven't got it despite all your endeavours.Dont you ever practice controlling the ball and shooting in training .
Killa...................Get in the taxi that's coming for Davey you are crap I cant see any positives you give us.
Big Dunc.............. Its a pity Vaughny is crocked cos I think you and him could be the biz

As for the rest Kroldrup (whats appened to him? no medical reports, is he recovering or what?) Jimbo and Ferrari get fit get in the side and be the players we know you can be. As for you Davey and Alan take a good hard look at yourselves do you want it as much as we do and are you capable of delivering it. We can only "Trust in Moyes" for so long. I'm sure I speak for loads of Blues when I say we don't give two fucks about Kenshite, Fat Bully the fuckin shite board and the shite commercial set up. But we fuckin love this team and it needs surgery big time. We are hurting loads and depending on you Davey don't let us down. Chris B (the original Wirral Blue) (19/09/05)

Wigan Game

Still numb after the the Dynamo Bucharest game, a massive disappointment, but read on........ After our failure in Europe, some of which was down to poor refereeing decisions against Villareal, it's time we regrouped and kick started our Premiership season at home against Wigan. The away game against the Arse on Monday probably won't yield too much in the way of points (surprise me Blues!)

Moyesy and the lads need all the support they can get at the moment and if every true Everton supporter is honest with themselves they will admit they love the Club and will support it 'til they stop breathin'. Yes, we're all absolutely gutted that things didn't work out in Europe as we'd anticipated, but we're probably out so we have to get over it and try harder still to gain a European position this season. So fill the place and let's hear it for the lads. So let's prove everybody wrong again!!. Eddieparkend. (19/09/05)

Pissed off with gobshite "fans"

Just got back from Bucharest after us being shite yesterday. Ok we were shite and Everton broke our hearts once more but all this shite from fans saying they're not going to watch the Arsenal match!!!! Well fuck off then!!! Get behind the blues or piss off, because I'll be behind them when I go down to Highbury while the wankers not watching the match shout their mouth off about how shite we've played. These are probably the same fans who hardly go the game then all of a sudden they're in Villarreal getting tickets with fans who have gone home and away for years while we have been shite. Pissed off with gobshite "fans". Tim. Wavertree. (19/09/05)

Fans Views - Euro Embarrassment

The last time i sat somewhere public and was embarrassed about the way Everton play was at goodison back in 1998/99 when we got stuffed 4-1 at home to sheffield wednesday under howard's 3rd spell! but the performance in bucharest topped the lot. i really feel for the guys who made the trip to romania and i think billy liar should delve deep to compensate. on another matter am i the only one who's heard davey moyes has been contacted and has one eye on the celtic job?? if so get gordon strachan back to the prem at goodison! improvement is needed lads or were gonna struggle in the prem let alone the you-wafer cup. Chris Wilson, telford exile - 21 yrs old 21yrs a blue. (19/09/05)

What the fuckin hell was that?

I have never ever felt the need to write about Everton fc especially to slag the club I love off, but after last night an the pre-season i feel i have to get it off my chest. Last night for me was disgusting after such a superb season last year once again Everton manage to fuck everything up, How many other teams who finished 4th in the premiership would then go into pre-season by no strikers when even stevie wonder could see that we needed 1, we are to scared to go that little bit more and pay that little bit extra money for genuine good players an im not sayin go and spend £75-80,000 on money grabbing players but we need to start competing if we are to go anywhere but down. We don't even buy any players of genuine class so how do we expect to build on last season?

On to Our european tour then we went with a few new additions nothing like the starting lineup i would have expected us to have at the end of last season... Viallareal at home wasn't to bad for our first outing in the champions league but they taught us a lesson in passing and movement i
thought they knocked the ball around really well, the 2nd leg i no that it was the worst refereeing descion ever but in all honesty did we deserve
anything from that game anyway? unfortunately we get knocked out but in to the uefa cup, any1 would have took this at the begging of last season...when the draw was made bucharest were 1 of only a few teams i had heard of but still expected us to progress without to much trouble..but hang on this is Everton! First 20 -25 minutes of that game i was chuckling to myself thinking this would b a nice easy game because they looked shite then they take the lead with a sloppy goal but we equalize and go in level.

2nd half i thought we would do them but how wrong can i be! In all my life i have never ever seen an Everton team play like that..we lacked everything that i think Everton should be about.. pride.. passion... commitment..fight and determination but those players last night were a disgrace to where the royal blue shirt. We have had players in the past who may not have been technically brilliant but they gave 100% in every game and they new how important it was to the
fans players like rhino gave 100% every time he crossed that white line..we need to get back to basics with this side. 1 Last point i have never ever crtisized david moyes before but he must take sum of the flack for last night i thought soon as we came out for the 2nd half are plan was to just sit back when i thought if we put them under pressure we could have won that game but his negativity cost us. Anyway as much as i am hurting now and believe me i am i will b in the Gwladys street for the return leg and I'm going to be singin my heart out because no matter wot I'm always goin to love this club.... and remember we are Everton anything is possible..keep the faith !! COYB! kingyEFC. (19/09/05)

Bucharest Debacle

What a disaster! I have had some lows with our lot but this just takes the biscuit! Some of these players (to use the term loosely) do not deserve to wear the blue shirt. Every single fan (and i know 2 from Belfast who made the trip) should be compensated in full with deductions made from the whole team's salary. They were a disgrace! I thought the days of embarrassment at work had finally gone. It says it all when my 13 year old son asks not to go to school and is dreading the abuse he will get at his club's football training (All this after enduring many long soul destroying pre Easy jet trips under the Smith regime).

But you know what will happen; we will get an appeal from the club hiearchy to come out and roar these so called professionals to an emotional victory at Goodison in 2 weeks time. And you know that thousands of us will answer the call and probably witness another near miss and big fat Wyness and his cohorts will sit and try to camouflage the severe damage which has been done to our beloved club! They should hang their heads in shame! Flamer in Belfast. (19/09/05)

Ashamed

I'm trying to keep my anger and frustration in check whilst writing this, I'm afraid mr moyes has been found out this season. What's going on with this 4 5 1 shite? It's okay if you have a couple of decent attacking midfielder's and a goal scoring machine in front of them, but we haven't. We could throw all our strikers on at once against half a team and still not score. Why? because there all crap. We have been crying out for a decent striker for two seasons and what do we get big time beattie a goalie, 4 defenders and and two midfielder's? The transfer kitty has been squandered yet again on injured panic buys and players no better than whats at the club already. I think mr moyes should leave the buying to someone else. Thank fuck my lad signed for Tranmere, ashamed to be an evertonian. Joe. (19/09/05)

Reality Bites

Here is astrange one! I am responsible for sorting out and organizing about 12 -14 Canterbury Blues. we come to about six home matches and as many away matches as possible per season. It occurs to me that the second Villareal game ripped the confidence out of the side. They are struggling with self-belief and we are facing possibly the worst first half season for a long while. We are missing 9 players from a thin squad and whilst we would love to turn the EUFA tie around, we know that it is not going to happen. I also think that there is a danger that we won't recover until November. Please get off Kilbane's back-he is not as shit as everyone claims-aren't we falling into the sunderland boo-boys trap? The team that did so well last year is not dead and buried. We have been incredibly unlucky-would an Everton side with PK have conceded five last night? Also, Biffer and Carsley are a presence. Arteta-possibly our best player to date this season, was a massive loss last night. We have done it before and we will do it again. BELIEF and HOPE. We don't want a season in which beating the shite is the highlight. A shocking start, but let's live in hope. Does anyone think that we could have a better manager? For all who live near and can get to the games-support the lads. Never say cry! Martin. (19/09/05)

Bucharest Nightmare

Like many other Evertonians I watched in disbelief as our team capitulated disgracefully last night. There will be many post mortem's by people in and out of the game far more qualified to do so than me but from my observations last night - and I have watched the blues since the year 1958 - the following were obvious: The defence had as much movement in it as one of Lewises. The midfield was lightweight and lacked commitment - with the exception of Neville. Bent could still be playing now and he wouldn't have scored - he couldn't hit a barn door at 10 paces. He's very good at chasing lost causes but that's about it. In truth the whole thing was an embarrassing shambles. AJS. (19/09/05)
