It is what it is Well
here we are. The importance of freshening the squad with vital additions
have visited us in a manner similar to hurricane Katrina. In it wake it
has left us with devastation of epic proportions. Out of the CL, as good
as out of the UEFA cup, 8 defeats in 9 games, one goal scored, abject
displays and bottom of the table. I had alwatys maintained that BK and
the rest of the litter have neither the financial clout nor the vision
to run this club and that largely remains unchanged. With contract wranglings
saga with Arteta, shambolic treatment of Stubbs, offering Weir and Naysmith
contracts, re-signing Pistone,Cahill's contract saga, Parker/Emre/Sissoko
not signing, the '£30m investment' in players, the 'bid' for Owen.
the list is endless. In an earlier article I said Moyes had become one
of these jokers and I was castigated for it. The same numbskulls are calling
for his head now. I am not one of those people as I believe that he has
the motivational skills to get the best out of average players. But to
repeat our success of last season, we need more and better playas and
its is the responsibility of the board. But Moyes has made some fundamental
errors. He let the board off the hook when he said had the playas to compete
in the CL, when he clearly did not have the team to take on Wigan, Fulham
or Pompey. He needs to step up to the plate and accept that Beattie is
a waster. He won't be the 1st manager to have invested a huge sum on a
dud playa Ferguson spent £28m on Veron, Wenger £10m on Jeffers,
Houllier £10m on Diouf. Cut your losses. If Beattie is crap and
Alex Ferguson was to be used sparingly, why did he not sign a striker.
Who will score the goals between now and January? TRUST HIM PLEASE JUST TRUST HIM All
the commotion about being bottom. DM.
is trying something new and the team are just struggling to settle into We could not keep on playing 4-5-1 LIKE WE DID LAST YEAR. we had to change our style ad it is taking time. As for were we are in the league I would refer everyone to ALL my previous mails sent to bluekipper.com voicing my concern over the effect of a European campaign could have on our team. Leeds, West ham, Southampton, Blackburn, Middlesbrough ALL went down within 2 years of qualifying for Europe. Lets hope DM. gets the players playing for him again soon. Sean Whelan. (27/09/05) Time to fall on his sword Our ex shite Welsh manager said when he was manager of Real Madrid he was always 3 defeats from the sack. How would Newcastle, Villa, Spurs and about two thirds of the Premiership teams react if their team lost 8 of the last 9 games? Someone said that after 3 years a manager loses the respect and discipline of players because they get used to the same routine. Is this whats happening at our club? The players are not responding to the manager because I believe they do not have confidence in him anymore. David Moyes tactics of last season have been found out and because of that he has gone ultra defensive, that’s why we haven't scored goals this season. He is and will always be a good manager but at times a good manager needs luck and he certainly hasn't had any recently. It's all very well for Wyness and Kenwright to voice their concern over the criticism that’s been thrown at the manager and his players but we have lost 8 of the last 9 games. Blue Bill must take the gaffer aside and ask him to resign for the good of the club. I take no pleasure in writing this email and I have no idea of who could be the replacement manager, but for the good of the club David Moyes needs to fall on his sword. Waynewales. (27/09/05) Please help find a piece of Everton history that was being kept for my son.
I know that I am not alone in feeling gutted that the bluekipper lads have had to pull the plug on the new lounge venue at crofts. However I have a much greater reason to feel gutted and cheated by my fellow blues. I donated a piece of Everton memorabilia that I have had since May 1985 when we won the cup winners cup, this was also the year my 1st son was born. For those that can remember the Liverpool echo published a special pull out and the centre pages was Andy Gray celebrating his goal with Sharpy, Brace and Reidy. I had this signed by most of the 1985 squad as well as the likes of Alan Ball, Ray Wilson, Howard Kendall, Colin Harvey, Brian Labone, Alex Young, Bobby Collins, Duncan Ferguson (the list goes on). It was framed and I loaned it to the bluekipper lounge so that my fellow Evertonians could share in the enjoyment of a great night in our history. It was stolen from the lounge and has not been returned. If anyone can help me trace it’s whereabouts I will be very grateful. To think that a fellow Evertonian could have done such a despicable thing is beyond me. Kevin Cliffe. (27/09/05). Contact: 07980 763304 or kevin.cliffe@btconnect.com Who
the f*ck does this Wyness think he is exactly??? Firstly I would like
to point out I am not one of those fans calling for Moyes' head far from
it, but for this fat turd to come out an call our fans
stupid means he has no idea how to run Everton Football Club. We as
Evertonians put up with so much crap its unbelievable and if a certain
section of paying fans want to voice their opinion that's up to them.
We waited for a big summer signing an it never came (thanks Keith), we
await Villareal only to go out, dubious yes, but were still out. After
this we again wait a summer signing that will send shockwaves around the
league, but it again no signing(thanks Keith). Then pops up Bucharest
and what do we do?? we take a tired bunch of lads over to a horrible country
and lose 5-1, great!!!! Then we lose to Pompey for fu*k sake, AT HOME!!!!
Then we lose to Arse away which we expect. Then after all that upset only
a few weeks into the season we approach the most important game so far,
Wigan at home and what happens?? you could of wrote the script after slagging
Wigan fans all week in work, the friendly banter, the pre match hype of
how were gonna turn the season round, the pint before the game then ZCARS,
but what happens 2 hours later were again crying in our pints. I have
just then spent hard earned money on City and Bucharest Tickets, why because
I am an evertonian!!!!!! and have been for 23 years since I popped out.
So Mr Wyness, you gave us no signings to boast about what so fucking ever,
Your fat and you know you are, You write our UEFA cup chances off before
were out then call our fans stupid. Well remember 1 thing Keith, we are
the peoples club and if we want YOU out YOU will be out, I for one can't
believe ya got the job and won't be happy til ya out. So instead of upsetting
any of the fans that actually support our club, by calling them stupid,
how about listening to them and saying something reassuring. here's is
a statement that might of went down a bit better. Kiwi Blue Hi guys from NZ. I have supported the Blues since I was little - and will continue to believe they are the best. Regarding their present form - disappointing but they are not playing bad it's just the belief in themselves has taken a knock. I fully believe we will come back - especially when the players who are injured come back. I wish I could be there to cheer them on. Maybe next year I can make a game when I come over for a trip. I just want to say I enjoy your humour on this site, but not necessarily the language. But my main reason for emailing is to encourage all the blues supporters to yell their heads off for the boys when they go see them play next. Yell for us Kiwis. And my prediction is I think they will wallop Dynamo 8-0 yes I had a dream and the reporters said "Lazarus raised from the dead with a vengeance". So lets see and hope. I dreamt Beattie came back and scored 4 of them, and Benty got 3 and Cahill got 1. Keep up the good work. Kiwi Supporter. Ann. (27/09/05) Show Us Yer Tatts I have just been looking through you tatts pages and do you know of a way to get in touch with Peter (Cavo) the Chap with the huge Everton badge on his back? If there is anyone out there with a huge Everton tattoo preferably on their chests then I would love to talk to them. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for your time. Best wishes. Zak. (27/09/05) Contact: Zak Waters Photography Ltd. zak@watersz.fsnet.co.uk Bill and Keith's Excellent Adventure End of September. Bottom of the table and all but out of Europe. Sack the manager? Kevin Latham’s thoughtful piece last week cleverly showed that the only people calling for DM’s head are those who clearly lose their own at the first sight of trouble. I’d go further though and ask how many players at our club have the bottle we are looking for right now. I for one would not like to be relying too much on Kilbane or Bent (not to mention Pistone) if I were fighting for my life in a trench. Sacking David Moyes is not an option. We need to do everything possible to support him and keep him at the club. However, I think the biggest danger is that he may well walk away of his own accord. He is trying to do too much on his own and the people in the position to support him most, his CEO and his Chairman sadly are not up to the jobs they hold. This takes me back to a theme I have touched on before with Bluekipper, when I was shot down for having the temerity to suggest that DM could do with a “Director of Football” to support him. Let’s not get hung up on the title, you could call the job anything at all so long as the role and the person were right. Take a look at most of the managers in the Premiership. Most of their roles are weighted towards managing the football club as opposed to coaching the team. Most of them employ specialist coaches to train the first team leaving them to concentrate on player relationships and player purchases. At Everton we have the exact opposite. In the week leading up to the Villareal return game we needed the best coach in this country to be able to prepare the team for what was a massive and winnable game (G14 corruption aside). But the transfer window clock was ticking at the same time and DM needed to be involved in that as well. He was probably thinking, as I certainly would in his position, “I can’t leave this to Bill and Keith!” Bill and Keith. One is too much in love with the club to see that he is now holding it back and the other too much in love with himself to have any real ambition for the club. I happened to be invited into the Directors’ Lounge after the Bolton game in August. I didn’t stay too long because it is abundantly clear to me that the people Everton employs to run the club have no real idea of or interest in what genuine fans (and there were very few of us that day in that lounge) want for the club. I am particularly incensed with “Sales Manager” Harvey Smith who talks glibly of “re-branding” and “different lounge ambiences.” For those of you who don’t know, the vast majority of seats in the old Legends’ Lounge were bought out of their own money by fans like me. All Smith has achieved by his re-branding is that the corporates (and we do need them, too) have migrated down from the more expensive Alex Young suite into the ludicrously re-named Peoples Lounge. So now they have vacancies in the Alex Young and have broken up match day friendships of ordinary people who can’t or won’t pay silly money (over £1000) to have a plate of scouse before matches. I’ve noticed that Keith has adopted a more visible image of late, giving his views on how football clubs should develop in one newspaper article and informing national radio listeners yesterday that we premiership fans have never really had it so good. It is almost as embarrassing as reading the opinions of the self-appointed team spokesman, Marcus Bent. Concentrate on the football, Marcus, no interviews and hours and hours of practise on how to put the ball into the net would do you the world of good. Now that Keith has gone public with his remarks that very little money will actually come in from Europe, which is his way of saying to DM that there is no money to spend on a striker, perhaps that is the best we can hope for. As I read back on what I have just written down I realise I need to be more blunt. David Moyes is the best man for the job he is in and I hope he stays with us for a long time to come, but he is not a miracle worker. I’m sorry but I don’t buy into all this “in Moyes we trust” stuff. His high profile signings have not been successful and he has often missed the wood for the trees. Instead of £6m on Beattie in January it should have been £8m for Keane AND Ashton. Having got Beattie though, it would have made more sense in the Summer to spend £750,000 on his favourite partner Kevin Phillips to play alongside him in the short term, as Vaughan develops. Who will replace the now beginning to show his age Nigel Martyn? I don’t want to even mention the new contracts for Pistone and Naysmith. But I do want to mention again the team captaincy. I have always liked and respected David Weir but a captain on the pitch he is not. Nor should he be guaranteed the place in the team that a captain’s armband usually demands. Neville is the captain on the pitch and Yobo, despite his lapses, is one of the best centre-backs around and needs to be boosted with the self-confidence that being told that would give him. All these things are mistakes that lead back to the same conclusion, that DM has too much, on too little support, to get right all the time. Well I was berated last time for suggesting that Peter Reid might fit the bill of supporting DM. I don’t know Peter personally but I saw him at the Bolton game and I wondered again at how we could use his driving play and personality. His playing skills are no longer available to us but his personality might be. He loves football, he loves Everton, he is hugely respected in the game. Instead of DM having to spend days and weeks and months tracking new players and then actually persuading them to sign for Everton, Reid with his passionate approach and expert knowledge would be ideal. Then DM could get on with being the best coach in the country bar none. Then Bill and Keith could also get on with their excellent adventure, preferably with Bill finding a part for Keith in a West End farce about a Chief Executive who calls the people who pay his wages “stupid” yet who by his own stupidity over ticketing, flights to Bucharest, lost marketing opportunities, and most of all failure to support his manager with hard cash, loses more than just the patience of the audience. JOE 90. (27/09/05) What is going on? My weekend is now complete, Sunderland have managed to dump us onto the bottom of the league. Congratulations to Moyesy, his coaching staff and the whole of the first team for letting us become the laughing stock of the Premier League and Europe. Of course yesterday's defeat does mean that Moyes can now add the worst start to a season for 47 years to his rapidly growing collection of failures whilst he has been our manager, I just hope that he doesn’t become the man who gets us relegated which is starting to look a real possibility. The team is clueless and just do not create any goal scoring chances from open play, every week I watch match of the day and I hate to say it but we must be the most boring team on there, every other team appears to create no end of chances alright they don’t always score but at least they look like they are trying to. I think the best solution will be to register the women's team and send them out for our next game, after all are they not top of their league and I have heard they work hard, create chances by not playing 4-5-1 and most importantly score goals something the first team are failing miserably to do. How much longer we give Moyes I don’t know, who else could we get ? he clearly has a long list of excuses and hard done by stories ready and waiting at the end of every game, perhaps it would be nice for him to come out and tell us why he decided to load the team with defenders and midfielder's when everyone could see we were crying out for a forward. I cannot believe he didn’t go for the likes of Vassell or Bent who didn’t cost hardly anything and would have surely been worth taking a chance on after all they are both England internationals unlike James ”I can’t play because my toe hurts” Beattie. I only hope the situation improves I am not prepared to go to the expense of making a 300 mile round trip to watch this boring crap anymore. I send my condolences to anyone unfortunate enough to go to Bucharest and witness the crap first hand we dished up over there, for the first time ever I sat in front of the tv unable to shout or swear at it as I was so disappointed and embarrassed, but that is the story of the season so far with the exception perhaps of the Villareal games – It’s time for a change and someone with fresh ideas…… A frustrated Blue who suffering piss taking from just about everyone - yet again. Graham Leslie. (27/09/05) Moyes "Dream World" Some
gems from the Scottish maestro this week, after another abject performance
by the blues. Knowing David Moyes for his referral to the league table as a true yard stick, I trust that he has had a glance at it recently. Furthermore losing SIXTEEN out of the last TWENTY FOUR is not in the least inspiring. Looking for positives it does appear that he has noticed that Kilbane is not playing well and he has subbed him once or twice recently. Perhaps he may soon notice that opponents go past Weir with consummate ease and quite a few of the goals conceded come through the middle. It is going to take us longer this season to get the FORTY points that is usually enough to retain premiership status. These facts have not just come to light they have been screaming out loud for ages. Gravesen going was a watershed in our demise. He has not been replaced and Davis and Arteta are different type players to Gravesen. We need a skipper on the pitch with the ability to lift the team and lead by example from the front and not to grasp at opponents as they go past and then have the audacity to complain to the linesman that he did not get his flag up. (Weir after Wigan scored). The midfield is too small and against most teams they are brushed aside by bigger and stronger opponents. In three games last season Arsenal scored FOURTEEN GOALS against us. None of us likes to face these stark facts but it is now time for David Moyes and his staff to prove their worth and tweak the playing system and climb out of this pit of despair. Sacking the manager is not the solution. Replacing some of the players on the pitch with players who have the desire and the will to turn things around is. There is not enough competition for the shirt. There are one or two who know they will be picked irrespective of how little they compete. There is no substitute for skill and hard work. Get real David and face facts. One goal in Four home games is not good nor is it a positive. JACK WARNER Lifelong Blue. (27/09/05) Sorry State Of Affairs What a mess, 1-0 defeat against Wigan at home, Pistone's one legged, one eyed half brother playing at left back, fat arsed Beattie milking the club dry whist doing fuck all except get fatter (will we never learn?). Moyes sounding more and more like fuckin Walter Smith every week. If I hear "aye am very disappointed" one more time I'm going on the rampage with a machete. Hibbert being touted for England a couple of weeks ago dropped to the bench, Tiny Tim wondering so much what to spend his 26 grand a week on that he can't even time a tackle, and there the good bits, sorry but that's the last time I fork out nearly a ton to take the fambo to watch that pile of shite. The worst part is that I can't even see a turn around on the horizon. We have needed a striker for two seasons now and because of Moyes suicidal refusal to pay reasonable wages to decent players all we have been able to sign are second string half crocked players no better than we've already got. We've spent just on £25 million in a year on crap. Yet the same money would have bought Owen and Parker and took the team up a level. Telling yer boys the writings on the wall for all to see this season and if were not careful it will be trips to Sheff Wed next season. Gutted. joeverton. Speke. (27/09/05) Vaughan Will Score Goals Sorry to say this but I don't see Everton getting out of this mess without a new manager. James Vaughan is a young player who will help bring goals. So will Van der Meyde but Moyes has got to go. from Ben. (27/09/05) 3rd Kit I think the new third kit is quality....It's a pity the club don't stock my size (XXXL...I like them baggy) despite there being a massive demand for them. New home shirt was available in this size but not new away or 3rd kit???!!. Apparently it's a cock up by JJB (I bet Wigan fans have their shirts)....It could only happen at Everton one administrative mistake after another (tickets, travel, merchandise etc... ) you name it Everton fuck it up. Apparently there may be some shirts in my size available in Decemeber...Let's hope the kids are able to buy me one for Xmas!!! Vaughanie. (27/09/05) Everton's New Kit Shit. Sarah Evason. (27/09/05) PLAYERS CONTRACTS = LACK OF PASSION I
see only one single factor to our current predicament. Players sitting
on long term lucrative contracts. At the beginning of last season we had
around eleven players whose contracts were up for renewal at the end of
the season. So considering that those same players finished fourth from
bottom the previous season, where were they going to end up if they finished
in the same position or lower again? You guessed it. THE FIRST DIVISION
(or Championship or whatever you want to call it), whether that was with
Everton, Derby, Forest, Stoke or whoever would have had them. Paid On Performance I only wished that Everton players where paid on performance because after Portsmouth & Arsenal's performance they would all be skint ( Ferguson and martyn not as much as the rest). If the team carry on performing like that next year aim will be to get back in the premiership. I am no glory hunter but I don't want to be an embarrassment hunter either. COME ON BLUE BOYS SORT IT OUT! MICHAELA HARRIS. (27/09/05) Robert Pires I
read this in your great site today: "Big girls blouse Robert Pires
is accusing Phil
Neville of deliberately attempting to hurt him during Arse's win on
Monday. The French tart who spends more time on his arse than Emily Heskey
is adamant that the England International set out to injure him. Go away
you knob rot. Typical French, always bleedin' whining." In the Trenches Just read Kevin Latham's article on bluekipper.com and having been an Evertonian since I was born 57 years ago agree wholeheartedly with what he is saying. Moyes is a tremendous asset to the club, the purchases of Kroldrup (who I saw and was impressed with up at the boring 0-0 draw at Motherwell), Van der Meyde, Valente and Ferrari will ultimately prove to be sound buys for the future. I am bringing one 18 year old fanatical son down from Dundee on Friday to watch the blues beat Wigan and my other equally Everton daft 20 year old is on his way from Hook in Hampshire with his adopted 5 year old daughter for whom this will be her first trip to Goodison, by train on Saturday to meet up with us. We will be proud to stand in the trenches in the Gwladys Street and support our beloved Blues and hope that all supporters will get behind the Blues and kick start our season and on Thursday next get the garlic out and put the Transylvanians to the sword.......4-0 is all that is needed. Let's make the Stadium rock. Keith Tomlin (ex Gwladys Street Season ticket holder c1958 - in the days when Tottenham beat us 10-4 and I had to endure my Kopite father giving me the old Broderick Crawford call sign for years - got him back with Worcester Sauce and Ajax from Amsterdam by the way..............rambling now. C'mon you Blues!!!) Revival I've read a lot of emails in the last week or so about our very poor start to the season and agree it is so disappointing and heartbreaking. However, if we put into perspective we have not become a bad team overnight - we finished fourth last season - so must have played reasonably well over 38 games. Once we get our injured players back and reinstall some confidence into the ranks, we will be fine. Lets also get off Beattie's back and give him a proper chance before slagging him off and destroying all his confidence - he is trying desperately hard to succeed at Everton. And a message for Dinamo Bucharest - ITS NOT OVER YET !!! We are Everton FC, pride of Merseyside. Come on you BLUEBOYS !!! Kristian - Everton FC Loyal - Northwest London. (27/09/05) We'll Win Again Fuck em all WE'LL WIN AGAIN, DON'T KNOW WHERE, DON'T KNOW WHEN, BUT I KNOW WE'LL WIN AGAIN SOME SUNNNNNNY DAY. Another absinthe please barman. Chris Simpson. (27/09/05) No Need To Panic We have no need to panic whatsoever. If you look at the 5 league games we have played this season and then look at how many points we got in those fixtures last season we are only 3 points behind. So why the panic!? It simply boils down to the fact that we have had a tough fixture list to start the season (Arsenal, Man Utd and Bolton away is not easy for any team in the premiership) We never do very well in London so really the only real disappointment was losing at home to Portsmouth. Winning away at Bolton was a bonus result. I urge all supporters to keep the faith and when David Moyes can pick his best 11 watch us start moving up the table. Chris Langton Fan for 36 years. (27/09/05) NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE OK the second leg against bucharest is virtually a formality, but as the shite showed in turkey and celtic(almost) in this seasons champions league nothing is impossible. However there is one main factor in these great comebacks the SUPPORTERS(remember wimbledon) Everton at home last year played every game with virtually 12 men and that is one of the main reasons why we finished were we did, yet we are constantly treated like second class citizens. The club consistently move from one blunder to another almost on a weekly basis and its the man on the street that suffers. The reason for me sending this e mail is because after all the effort of last season from the players, manager and supporters everything has come crashing down(again) within the space of a few weeks and after the debacle over the tickets for the villareal games the problems with the bucharest flights and the fact that we have lost seven out of the first eight games of the season our wonderful club still has the cheek to charge £25 for a game in which we trail 5-1. We all know that these problems are nothing new at everton but surely even dumbest at the club should realise that it will be an embarrassing attendance( or are they relying yet again on our blind loyalty). Maybe in the next few days they might just realise and treat the fans the way they should be treated because remember NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE. Paul Mcmenamy. St Helens. (27/09/05) I'll stand in the Trenches Kevin
is right. Kevin Latham. (22/09/05). I´ll
stand corrected, and I´ll stand in the trenches. Once a Blue Always
a Blue (and NEVER Inept Today I am sick!!!!!!!! But I will not contemplate hanging myself, but wish just one of you inept, over-rated and over-paid owners/employees of the once great EVERTON FOOTBALL CLUB (That hurt)! would do so. You have destroyed my dream, a dream that promised so much!! That's it now - I've had it! Thank you for the most embarrassing night of my life in full view of the rest of the world! WAYNE KINGWELL, CHESTER. (27/09/05) I Will Stick With Everton I am a mad evertonian and I've just come over from australia. i was born there but my mum and dad are true blue evertonians. I have supported everton my whole life 14 years and i am shocked by Everton's performance this season, but i am also shocked by the suppose to be evertonians emailing in saying i was embarrassed to be a fan. Everton are having a bad run, all teams go threw that stage and i am certain everton will pull up there socks and start playing like the team we saw last season. Suzanne Middleton. (27/09/05) Unbelievable The
last week of football has to be the worst I have ever seen as an Everton
football fan. Bucharest was an absolute disgrace especially after an EFC Fans I was at the debacle in Bucharest last Thursday. I was very proud to be a blue that night, we took a terrible pounding from a team which did not appear to be superior, they were possibly fitter and stronger in the second half. Despite our performance on the pitch the fans had the good grace and sporting manners to rise as one to applaud the Dinamo Bucharest players and sets of fans on either side of us as they left the ground. The Dinamo players looked very surprised at the reception we afforded them and their fans appeared to be very appreciative of our sporting gestures and reciprocated with their own applause. I have not seen any of this sporting behaviour reported in the press, I guess it does not make good copy. I am particularly incensed at the behaviour of the club, stewards and police towards the JL164, it is a pity that the Clubs 'Executive's' are not made of the same stuff as the fans. Regards. John Dingle. (26/09/005) Hold On The Everton supporters can show the rest we shall not be moved, Moyes needs the same backing if we are to survive the season intact. The truth we were shite last year, only difference, games won by one goal. Moyes will make the team into a unit once more. Back him to the hilt the alternative, another twenty years of shite, so stop the BULL SHIT. John Lea. (27/09/05)
For gods sake how can anyone take pride in a 2 nil thrashing. Wake up Moyes we only had one shot on target in 90 mins against Arsenal and that didn't trouble the keeper. We spent the vast majority of the game chasing shadows and defending on the edge of our own box, absolutely showed no threat to the opposition who ran rings around us for fun. We have no creativity when attacking and the team looks disjointed and ill at ease. Also do not give me that crap about one win and confidence will be restored, WE ARE RUBBISH THATS THE BOTTOM LINE. All of you trust in Moyes merchants are an insult to my £500 shy wallet which the tossers conned off me pre season. All you trust in Moyes merchants better start praying because trust in me we are going only one way and when Moyes exits he can take Mcfadden, Pistone, Naysmith and the rest of his injury ridden rubbish with him. PS I worked hard not to put foul language in this and believe me for the sake of young readers it was F@*!#/@ difficult. Dave Lynch. (27/09/05) Predicament Having been on this site last week moaning about the Simon Davies purchase, it dawned on me that the real test of a manager, other than points won, is how well he does on the transfer front. I thought DM was a shrewd operator and that his only real stinker was Wright. He had touched the heights with the transfers of Martyn, Cahill, and Kilbane and he had not paid over the odds. Now in a month or so he has bought Valente who is oldish, fat and cowardly and S. Davies, a player whose last good game was for Wales eons ago. Did DM go and watch Davies play, if so please tell me when did he last play a good/outstanding game at Spurs? Did he watch Valente play before buying him? Neville is a trier, but three million quid plus for a twenty-seven years old? Even Wright was well-known as a dodgy keeper with a habit of letting in soft goals. The jury is out on Beattie but will be back soon with a verdict. I am afraid that the shine has come off DM in his transfer dealings and all we have to show for it is an embarrassing bunch of overpaid mediocrities. Mike Weir. (27/09/05) James McFadden. What a tit. I am gonna bill EFC for a new sky remote, coz i have gone through about 4 of them now over the years. I can't believe the lack of passion or determination. I just hope things can get better coz they can't get any worse now. COME ON EVERTON, pull your head out your arse. Gutted blue. (27/09/05) Moyesy's Tactics I'm nearly 30 years of age and have been a blue since before I could talk. Watching the 11 men, (and I won't call them a team because they didn't fight for each other at any point in the game) on the pitch against Dinamo Bucharest I was almost tearful. How can we suddenly have forgotten the basics of football? It's an easy game, you have a ball and you pass and move. It's like an energetic version of chess (bear with me) You set out with a target, win the game. To do this you have TACTICS. If at some point in the game, be it 15mins in or 15mins to go and your tactics aren't working you CHANGE them. I do think the players should shoulder alot of the blame but I think Mr Moyes tactics were extremely naive. He had watched Dinamo Bucharest the previous week and commented on how GOOD they were as an attacking force. Why then did he not use a defensive-counter attacking system? We didn't or couldn't soak up their pressure and hit them on the break. Why? What did they practise in training? I don't want to point the finger at individual players but how can a Premiership club have a full back that CAN'T CROSS a ball? Perhaps Mr Moyes needs some more assistance on the training side. Possibly another coach or coaches with European football experience that they could pass on and teach not only the players but also our staff. I am now fearing for our Premiership status for next season. Yes we've got players out and yes we'll probably go and try and buy some more players in the January transfer window BUT will that be too late? How many points will we have come the new year? Who will score the goals needed for our survival? I've got no idea. The only thing I do know is that I'm hurting, just like EVERY single EVERTONIAN is hurting. How and why have we been made the laughing stock of the Premiership in 5 months? AL. (27/09/05) Stick With Moyes Any
Evertonian should know that Moyes should NOT be sacked. Look at everything
he's done for this club. OK were out of the Champions league but that's
not his fault. We were cheated out of a perfectly good goal. But if we
still had Walter I could only fear what could have happened to our great
club. We would have excepted a top 15 finish last season we did over achieve
last year because it doesn't just get better in 1 year it takes a few
years an we don't want to end up with the same stupid attitude like the
shite. We are much better than them. I don't understand anyone who doubts
Moyes. Just last year we were praising him for the inspiring way he changed
our team and how he's tried to turn us to a great team again. If you don't
want David Moyes you don't want EVERTON. I hope the blues improve as the
season goes on. COME ON YOU BLUES Woe, woe and thrice woe! Doesn't look too good at the moment, does it? Maybe I'm daft, but I still have faith in David Moyes. He's still young. He's made a few mistakes in the past. But he's learned from them. I expect - and hope he - will do so again. Come on you Blues! Steve Reszetniak. (26/09/05) Strikers I have been saying for ages now that we need a striker who can score goals maybe about 20 goals a season someone like Robbie Keane. What do you think? Stuart Tulett. (26/09/05) When the going gets tough ............. Here
we go again. 8 games played in the season. 2 Champions League, 1 Uefa
Cup and 5 Premiership games and already we have a section of Everton supporters
calling for David Moyes head on a platter and some even asking us to boycott
games. Are these people for real? Or are they just armchair supporters
like a lot of the fans at the home leg against Villerreal who mostly see
games on TV and think they know what is going on? I was gutted for all
the fans who travelled away and can fully understand their frustrations
and rightly so. It was embarrassing and yes mistakes have been made but
life let alone football is a learning curve. The ticketing situation was
a mess and Keith Wyness is ultimately responsible but this is the same
man who secured the long term deal with Chang. A shirt sponsor that other
fans no longer take the piss out of and carries credibility and revenue
for years to come especially in the Far East market. Before Keith our
pre season tours were not generating income or new supporters around the
world. Will everyone calm down. The loss in Villarreal hurt deeply due
to the circumstances ( By the way Villarreal are second from bottom of
La Liga - played 3 games - 2 points !!) and the fans have recovered quicker
than the staff without doubt. No excuse second half against Bucharest
though but we have to move on and believe we can get a result in the second
leg. Portsmouth the worst. I started to go to away games with my mate
when I was 15 in 1978 on the 'Special' trains ( those who were there will
know how rough it was then, getting there and getting home). The attitude
of the 'sack 'em' fans drives me insane. Yes we have had a bad start to
this new season but the difference between success and failure in the
toughest league and cup competitions in the world for club sides can be
the width of a post. We could have been 1 nil up in the both games against
Villarreal and Man Utd but Cahill is going through one of those patches
when he can not buy a goal.Does this ring any bells in anyone's head?
Howard Kendall before the famous Oxford game - a must win game to keep
his job - and a section of supports chanting 'Kendall Out' game after
game. Made to eat their words but ask Howard about it now and it still
hurts and took a slight edge off his future glories. Who Could Do Any Better? Ok - lets be really honest - being a football fan is an exercise in pure unadulterated masochism. Nearly all of the time its sheer hell. It's even worse for supporters of a team who have the sort of history we have. Imagine how shit it must be to be a supporter of say Notts Forest or sheff Wednesday. Having said that I can really sympathise with the bloke who wrote to you and said that most of the time we"re shite. Thing is we keep coming back for more - I swore to myself that I would"nt pay out good money to watch the Arsenal game on the pay by view of what's going to be absolute hell on earth - and of course like some programmed robot the hand went to the phone and the order was made. Suckers for punishment that's what we are. Even if we get rid of Moyes - which is my inclination - I'm far from convinced anybody else will do any better. Football has changed so much that even a genius is not going to alter the hard iron laws of the present game - money to buy a team is what we ain"t got - hence we cannot aspire to anything better than middle table - until some charlie will cough up the 100 or so million to put us at the top. John de Frece, EFC supporters Israel. (22/09/05) Let me ask you a question~: Would you want to be in the trenches alongside some of your fellow Evertonians? (Yes, I know that you wouldn’t fancy being in the trenches at all, but just bear with me). After reading some of the stuff that people have sent in regarding how we’ll wind up going down, how shite everything is without any light at the end of the tunnel, and – particularly – the drivel about sacking David Moyes, I’ve concluded that match day programmes have stronger spines than some of our fans. I’m not denying that we’re going through a piss-poor run right now and I’m not suggesting for a moment that we shouldn’t be concerned; but for Christ’s sake get a grip! This is, after all, the same side who only recently would have beaten maybe the best side we’ve played this season but for Collina; the same side who showed (at least for a half) that they could compete with Man United; the same side who turned Bolton over on their own ground. Let’s also remember that even after going behind to a spawny goal against Villareal we then took the game to them and had them on the ropes. I mention all this to remind us all that despite everything, we have seen some signs this season that there is something to look forward to. Of course some will laugh at this suggestion and point to the surrender against Dinamo Bucharest as well as the Portsmouth & Fulham results. (The Arsenal result doesn’t count, they always tonk us anyway). So we’ve hit a bad spell – doesn’t every team? Should we throw the towel in on the strength of 3 bad results? I can’t believe people emailing the site telling us that it’s the end of the road for them, but who wants that type of “support” anyway? Who will they now follow? I’ve followed the Blues for 46 years and in that time I’ve seen far more shite than good times. Show me a long time fan of any club anywhere who can say any different. That’s football, lads. Feeling shite comes as standard. And yes, we have been shite lately. It may be just coincidence, but so has Tim Cahill. That’s no fault of Tim’s, of course, but we all know that the lad urgently needs a rest. I may be in the minority but I think that he makes an awful lot of things happen when he’s on song, and part of our current problem is down to Tim’s tiredness. I say ‘part’ of the problem because there are other considerations, of course, not least of which is the fact that Moysie hasn’t been able to field his strongest side all season. I don’t believe for one minute that out of choice he’d have gone for the 4-1-4-1 lone striker option, especially since Marcus Bent can’t do it up front. In some ways I’m loathe to criticize Bent as he tries hard, but let’s face it, you need to be a bit more than a trier in the Premiership. A good touch would be a start. And in the cold light of day, a forward that can’t score goals is about as much use as Stephen Hawking in a Mexican wave. For all the stick Beattie gets, I for one can’t wait to see him back. It goes without saying that he’s not had the best of times since he’s been at Goodison but if we’re honest we have to admit we’ve been too quick to get on his back. Barracking him - or any other player for that matter - is pointless. If we want players to get worse, then muller them. Beattie needs confidence; he needs a settled run in the side to build that confidence, together with someone to run off him, whoever that may be (Robbie Keane where are you?). Maybe Kilbane as a stop-gap? Just a wild thought. As for the middle of the park, we’ve every reason to believe that Andy Van de Meyde will do the business when he’s fit. We’ve not had a decent wide man to speak of for some time and Van de Man could be what we’ve been waiting for - and he can play either flank. Arteta is class and a clever player who could work well with van de Meyde. Phil Neville in the holding role impresses me, in fact I think he should take over as skipper given the fact that he seems to be the only one who shows any leadership qualities on the park. And to me, the lack of players who’ll show any of those qualities is worrying at present. Although I haven’t seen enough of Kroldrup (how do you type that Danish ‘o’ with a slash through by the way?) to form a decent opinion, other peoples’ wisdom would have it that when he’s fit then it’s him and Joey holding the back line. So let’s look at the emptyhead calls for a taxi for the manager. Could it be possible, as many contributors seem to suggest, that Moyesie has turned into a crap manager so soon? Here is a manager who hasn’t had anything like his first choice side out this season, in fact it’s been the case in some games that whoever was fit had a decent chance to play. I’m not saying that he hasn’t made mistakes, of course he has – not signing a striker before the deadline was a BIG one as we know, and Simon Davies has got to do a lot more to convince me he’s class. (Before we add Nuno Valente to the list I don’t think it’s fair to judge him only on the 2 games he’s had, shite though he was). Is there a manager out there who hasn’t made mistakes? Where is that man, I want to shake his hand. If people didn’t get things wrong sometimes then there‘d be no need for rubbers on the ends of pencils. But the trick is to learn from the mistakes you’ve made – remember Moyes and the famous 2004 pre-season USA tour? Yes, Moyes has made mistakes, and some biggies, but calls to sack him, for fuck’s sake? Who are we, Everton or Newcastle? And to all those who think he should go, who exactly would we replace him with? Ron Atkinson’s free, what about him? Or John Bond? (ask your Dad if you don’t know). Come on lads, float back to reality, we’ve 33 games to go. If we’re still in the bottom 3 come Christmas then I may have to reassess my opinion, but that won’t happen. When Moyes can pick his best 11 then things will change, of that I’m sure; and come the transfer window I’m sure he’ll sign a partner for Beattie. Good players don’t turn into bad ones overnight, and neither do good managers. Moyes got us to 4th place when everybody thought we’d go down. He hasn’t suddenly turned into a crock of shit. Why are football fans so fickle – look at Charlton and West Ham. How long ago was it that their fans wanted to sack Curbishley and Pardew? Now they’re great managers. If (and probably when) they slide then the fans will want to hang them again. It’s a funny old game, to coin a phrase. I like many can recall the “Kendall Out” brigade of 1983. Then look what happened. Moyesie may not do what Howard the Great did but if the fans had got their way then, where would we be now? And some of those 1983/4 “journeyman” players whom the press regarded as mediocre - you know, the likes of Peter Reid, Andy Gray, Sharpy, Trevor Steven and the rest - turned out to be just a touch better than mediocre when they later dominated all before them. Yes, a funny old game. So keep your nerve, fellow Blues, now more than ever. We may have a right to have a go at the team, but we also know that we’ll get behind those Blue shirts no matter what; players and managers come and go, true fans have the club in their blood. Whether we’re good, bad or really shite, we’re still daft enough to follow our club. If football fans were not like this, ask yourself who’d follow the likes of Lincoln or Doncaster. You probably think by now that I’m a hopeless case, but if you look around, there’s lots of hopeless cases like me. Come On You Blues! So, would you be worth standing next to in the trenches? Kevin Latham. (22/09/05) Are you lot mad?? Yes, so we got embarrassed in Bucharest. Yes, we were outclassed by Villa Real. And yes we have struggled to get points in the Premiership. But sacking DM?? There are some crazy fans out there who are getting carried away. At times over the last few years I've felt privileged that he's our manager. For the most part he's had little funding, lost his best players and had to clear up the dross that Walter Smith brought in. Admittedly we don't play pretty football but he saved us from relegation in 2002 and has managed 2 top 8 finishes. People have been saying he's taken us as far as he can. Eh??? If we let him go then we'd end up with a lesser manager because the fact is that no established top manager would come to us because we don't have the cash. David Moyes, more than any player or board member, is the best hope this great old club have of better times. Europe was a great bonus but let's not kid ourselves. The team that did it was always going to struggle when they got to Europe. If you'd said a year ago we'll be in Europe and getting thrashed then you would definitely have taken it. This club was expected to be in a relegation dogfight last season. They finished fourth. Even if the European dream is in tatters, last season was a joy to behold and we mustn't let a few games taint our opinions of DM or his players. The team is in transition. Once injuries clear up he'll have a side more capable of playing attractive attacking footie and scoring more goals. And I sense, with the signings he's made, he's got longer term plans. If they come off then we might have a team who can qualify more comfortably for Europe on a regular basis and actually make it past September. He's not the Manager of the Season for nothing. Remember Walter Smith? Howard Kendall's 2nd and 3rd tenures? Mike Walker? We are lucky to have this manager. Andrew James, Reading. (22/09/05) Rotten The whole club is rotten to the core and amateurish in EVERYTHING it does. It's got to stop NOW. Home to Wigan on Saturday is the time to let every gobshite at Everton know what we think of them, from the players to the stewards and including the embarrassing buffoon Kenwright. Let it rip all day. Paul Burns. (22/09/05) Blue Abyss Stares Us In The Face We really must put last season's "success" behind us and quickly take stock of the situation we are at present in and the potential disaster we face. The players have to get a grip and get some Premiership points on the board quickly - starting with the Wigan game on Saturday. Forget Europe now - the reality and the dream were poles apart. Wigan are no mugs and I am viewing this game as a real barometer of how we will fare this season. Moyes must take the last few results and performances into account and hopefully with a little luck on the injury front change things around. Weir has had it - he looked like a ghost after the Bucharest debacle. This lad Ferrari should be put alongside Yobo at the back and we can then await the return from injury of Kroldrup. Why is it that almost every player Moyesy has bought lately is injured at the time of purchase ? The back defiantly needs attention even Hibbert looks woeful at the mo. The Midfield should be ok with Cahill, Osman, Arteta and hopefully this Van Der Mer guy - yet another injured purchase. Up front it is desperate and big money is needed here. Beattie in my opinion has no interest in the club - he is picking up massive money but there has been no evidence of any return to date. It is obvious he is unfit and he needs a solid dozen games or so to rid himself of all that lard. Time we ain't got.We should have bought Dean Ashton for half the price - a big strong striker who scores spectacular goals and can create opportunities for himself. Is he available in January ?? Duncan is well past his sell by date and Bent is simply not a top class striker. He works hard the lad but he will never get into double figures. The lad Nugent from Preston has been linked with the Toffees and alongside say Ashton or someone like Anelka would prosper We need quality up front and we need to buy at the top end . The alternative is unthinkable - but the signs are all there. Championship Footie - with a derby against Crewe to look forward to. Frank Stennett, Douglas, Isle of Man. (22/09/05) Broken Dreams and Broken Hearts Everton, you broke my heart on Thursday night. I was stood with a thousand or so other fans in a stadium hundreds of miles from home and yet I felt I was the loneliest man on the planet. I just stood there watching my beloved Everton throwing away our hopes and dreams. I was too sad to be angry, Oh I did have a moments thought of never going to another game, or turning my back on this once proud club, the way it has turned its back on its fans........... but it was only a moment. And when the booing started I couldn't bring myself to boo the club I love, so I just stood there clapping, along with a few other diehards, my Everton, the team I have supported since 1963, and will probably continue to support until I die, but I can't remember them ever making me feel so low. I think it was the expectation after going through last season on such a high, of having made some decent signings in the close season, of having such high hopes come crashing down around us this season. I'm not bothered about the taunts of the Koppites, they've more than earned their nickname of Gobshytes over the past 30 years and they're not going to change now, I'm more bothered about the attitude of the club to its fans. They seem to think its acceptable for them to put in a shite display and pick up their wages, to leave about 200 fans behind at the airport because they didn't even bother checking out the airline properly (I noticed their airline didn't fold, maybe it would have been better for us all if it did), to just expect us to turn up week in week out and spend good money travelling to the ends of the earth to offer them support. So what should we do, sack Moyes? Sack the Board? Panic buy a striker? No, we'll do what we have always done, we'll support the Blues and hopefully this will just be a blip that the Manager and the team will iron out over the coming weeks, hopefully starting tonight at Highbury. ....and if its not just a blip, if the team move into a relegation battle then we'll still support them, hoping against hope that one day we'll find the secret of the winning formula, .....and not lose it this time. Saco el Juggler. (19/09/05) What a shocker Before now I would never have believed that an Everton side were capable of such capitulation. The whole of last season was built on teamwork – a collection of relatively talented – not world beating – players, playing for each other and the blue shirt. The 2nd half in Bucharest made us look like a joke. Its true to say that the whole of Everton’s support knew we needed another striker but for whatever reason we aint got one and we ain't getting one till January earliest, so we’ll have to do what got us into Europe in the first place – tighten up at the back and support Bent in numbers when we have the chance. When we went behind last season we just picked ourselves up and got on with it – more often than not picking up points as we did so surely not that much has changed? I disagree that Moyes is clueless in the transfer market – he has bought some good players who when they are all fit will be priceless – you only have to have seen Van der Meyde and Kroldrup play to know that but we have been unfortunate with the injuries – better now than before the end of the season. This will be a long tough campaign now but as ever we’ll get there. Positive attitude, so absent in Bucharest needs to be instilled again, which together with one or two results to get the ball rolling should be enough. Now then, just Arsenal on Monday to deal with…….Lee Hind. (19/09/05) What Do You Think? Have your say! e-mail info@bluekipper.com |
