This Season

After reading everyones views after the Birmingham game, I think that we need to look at things from both sides of the argument.
As an avid Evertonian, I can understand everyones frustration at what has happened this season...I am also feeling the same as them. After last season, I think we all expected the team to do so much better than we have done this season. Why this has happend, I don't know..we have played more or less the same team, so that is maybe where the problem lies. Either way, this is now Moyes' team. He has been here for 4 seasons now. He has signed some poor players...Davies, Kilbane (good at first, terrible at the moment, as someone said, 1 goal in 80 games is not good enough), Richard Wright has never filled us with confidence, and the re-signing of Pistone has been a mistake. Kroldrup was a disaster, but thats another story. However, lets not forget the players he has brought into the club...Arteta, Cahill, Martyn, Neville, Beattie...all of whom have, and will, be good players for the club.

I agree that this season has been a major dissappointment, however, to point all the blame at Moyes I feel is wrong. I would rather be where we are now than fighting relegation season after season, however after last seasons finish, we are trying to work out where this season has faltered. People are talking bout us missing Lee Carsley...however at 32 years of age, is he really the solution? Yes he did a good job last season, but Phil Neville at 28 can do the same job as Carsley, and is 4 years younger, so he would look a better long term prospect. I know that Moyes can make some weird decisions in games, as another person mentioned, why bring Ferguson on with 30 mins of Birmingham game remaining? Surely Anichebe would have been the better option and give him a chance to play. Also, with nothing left to play for, i thought it would be time to play Turner and Ferrari. I appreciate the fact that each place in the Premiership is worth half a million, but it was the time to give fringe players a game to show what they can do, especially Ferrari. We can't keep relying on Weir and Stubbs. We need to look long term here. However, Moyes must have done some things right go get us into 4th place last season.

Next season is make or break for Mr. Moyes. It will be 5 years since he came to the club by the end of next season. Players like Davies and Kilbane cannot be kept on at Everton Football Club. Hopefully, there will be more to come from players like van Der Meyde, Yobo, Beattie, McFadden and Wright. They are all players who we know have quality, they just don't seem to be producing it week in week out. And then there is the issue of Weir, Stubbs and Ferguson. They are all well into their 30s, we know they are past their best, and we need to bring younger good players in, this is easier said than done, and we may actually need to keep these players on to make the numbers up...but it would leave us in a bad situation if we need to keep them, because we havent been able to replace them. However, with a supposed £6-£7million budget, how are we meant to buy quality players to replace these...to keep it short, we can't.

There is a lot left to be done at this club, a lot of questions the ever loyal supporters need answering. After last seasons promise, then missing out on a number of players that would have improved the club (look what Bellamy is doing at Blackburn now), we are in no stronger position to buy any quality players, and keep in improving...this is the dissappointing reality that faces us supporters. However, we will still be there next season, regardless of which players are on the pitch, we need some evidence this club is still moving in the right way on the pitch! Tom Astley. (24/04/06)

Comments by Joe 90

Once again an excellent well crafted piece which more than sums up my feelings and those of many of my colleagues on the present state of our once great club.

I have supported the Blues since 1966, when as a football mad 11yr old I idolised Alan Ball during the World Cup and with his move to Everton there was only going to be one team for me. I converted my future wife to the cause and dutifully brought up my daughter and son to be true blues. We have been season ticket holders for over 20 years in the family enclosure then the main stand. For the past 5yrs I have been part of the "prawn sandwich brigade" in The Blues 100 Suite where we have a table for 6 and where on Saturday last with family and friends we more than drowned our sorrows after the performance against Spurs.

However, to the point of my email, I have after careful deliberation decided that I will not be renewing my company's membership of the Blues 100 nor will I be taking any other form of season tickets. For the sake of my health and sanity I need to take a break. A break that is, away from supporting and making excuses for what has become a second rate team, poorly managed on the pitch and for a club administered by a bunch of incompetents. We have become a club surviving on its "history" with no future in sight! A very sad and sorry state of affairs. A broken-hearted Blue. (23/04/06)

Transfer Budget Embarrassment

Despite our recent resurgence in the rich list of Europe’s clubs I find it a total embarrassment when it comes out that apparently Paul Jewell at Wigan will have £20million to spend on his squad whilst we are being told that Moyes’ budget will be £7million.

When did Wigan AFC become a bigger club in terms of investment in the team than us ? I am a long standing admirer of the fact that Bill Kenwright brought the club back into the hands of an Evertonian and not some pirate who just wanted to plunder the clubs coffers but I think the time has come to step aside and make way for someone who has the money to bring us back into the game in a BIG way.

I know it’s not that easy but surely there is someone who wants to put money into what will once again become a giant of the game given the right investment. Andrew Boyer. (23/04/06)

Lee Carsley's Suspension

Surprise! Surprise! as the red-headed, goofy, ex-Scouse bird used to used to say. The FA, in their wisdom (ha ha, ooh me sides are splittin') have decided that Lee Carsley's red card against Chelski has to stand. Did we expect anything else from them? I think it's about time we had former players, or at least people with a general knowledge of the game, running football. Anyway.......Eddieparkend COYB. (23/04/06)

Making up the numbers?

Are there many, sorry any, Evertonians who believed we were not just making up the numbers at Chelski other than David Moyes? When the TV commentator says: "All these players(Everton) want now is to board the bus for home." and I see the last quarter of the match being played at walking pace and Duncan Ferguson, ambling in the general direction of the Chelsea player who had the ball, like a bewildered Hippo, being allowed to head back to a waiting Chelsea defence and the manager then says he is very pleased with the boys after a three nil defeat. One thing has become very clear. The Board and Chairman of the once great Everton FC have made a, not very momentous, decision. ON OUR WATCH THIS CLUB WILL REMAIN AN ALSO RAN IN THE PREMIERSHIP. The evidence is there for all to see. We peer at the transfer market like envious child looking through a toy shop window. My Pal`s Dad is going to pay more than my Dad for that bright toy. We have a manager whose tactical awareness
is limited to bring on Big Dunc with twenty minutes to go. Like most of his players, honest and hard working. But the leader of a top Premiership club? The Chairman is very very absent with regular updates of the progress of the Club, difficult at the moment yes, but a statement of intent and a graph of progress? Never. No change, no progress Blue fans. Ken Woodhouse. (23/04/06)

We need 4 Quality Players

As the blessed Walter used to say! Cannot believe Moyes has already stated that we don't have much money. I hope it is just a rues for clubs not attempting to price us out of any transfers. If he does only have 7 to 8 million there is no point in buying several players filling several positions because we end up with garbage. If Martyn can last another season great as we wouldn't get much for Dickie and we cannot afford to spend a fortune on another keeper. Defence is the same keep what we have got especially Matt if the price is right. We desperately need a creative midfielder as Arteta isn't enough and when he is out they are shite, clueless. Striker, please, please, please Mr Moyes a forward with plenty of pace who can score and help Beattie. Hopefully the players rumoured to be leaving is only rumours but if Tiny has a great world cup the writing will be on the wall, just like Lineker, Keown, Barmby and Rooney. Can anyone tell me if we still have any money to receive from the Mancs for Judas? Or was 20 million it unless they actually won something worthwhile? Great, ripped of again! Great site lads keep up the fantastic work for all us overseas blues!!! Gareth Fieldstead. (23/04/06)

Another Capitulation

Why is it that at the end of every season lately we seemed to get stuffed by everyone and all the team can do is roll over and get walked on by anyone. Where is the inspiration to take them over the final hurdle. What's our chairman's views on this season is he happy with the captive audience our season ticket holders have become. Right now we need someone to pick up the mantle and take us to the next stage I can't see where that is going to come from at the moment. Our previous manager was so lax in training the squad that we made the likes of Charlton look like Brazil but he was getting a good wedge off the club and it took a long while for the fans to accept that he didn't know what he was doing. Then came Moyes who at first looked like he was going to be Everton's answer to Bill Shankley but by his second season had lost the dressing room confidence. Last season Tommy's eagerness to get himself in the shop window was the main reason why we finished fourth, after he left we never won many games and this season promised so much but alas has turned sour straight away. I think our manager has got a new £3million pound house in Preston as a reward for his efforts so of course he would be eager to stay on. In the recent derby why didn't we take advantage straight away of Gerrards sending off was it because we didn't know what to do? I have followed Everton through a lot worse times than these ie the Wimbledon and Coventry matches spring to mind but I thought we were supposed to be going away from all that, right now if we don't address these problems you will see the redshite fans parading the blue and white coffin they intend to march to the pier head with and throw in the Mersey as well as the champagne that they have on reserve for such an event and numerous other snide things they intend to do. So for all of davey moyes fans have you considered the consequences of being relegated. Chris Simpson. (23/04/06)

Bob's Wrong Picture!

I thought you may also be able to shed light on this given the forthcoming events regarding Big Bob. Only a minor point and a fairly petty one at that, but this has bugged me for years. I was fortunate enough to see all of Bob's 30 goals in the flesh. I even got the poster, I think from the Echo which displayed a picture of all 30 goals. One of the pictures however, portraying the goal in the 3-2 defeat away at Coventry late in the season, is not actually the right picture. It was a shot he had earlier in the game and he is in fact on completely the opposite side of the area from that where he scored. I was in the stand at the old Highfield Road with my brother and was directly behind Bob when he scored. I would really like to know if anybody else has ever thought this to be the case and if the real photo actually exists? Cheers. Stewart Jameson. (23/04/06)

End of Season

I don't know if Davey Moyes reads these but if he does please see what you think of this Sir . With only 3 games left and virtually nothing to play for, would the following changes be advisable. Put young Iain Turner in goal, lets face it he is our best hope for next season as Wrighty isn't good enough and Nigel's to old. Play Matteo Ferrari and Joey Yobo as twin Centre halves, reading between the lines Ferrari wants to stay but won't sit on the bench until Davey Weir decides he's far to slow for modern day football. Put Andy Van der Meyde on the right hand side of midfield and play young Victor Anichebe up front with Beattie. All the players mentioned have something to prove and would give the end of season a huge boost, most fans I have spoken to have welcomed these ideas as a positive step in an otherwise very disappointing season. Just a word of warning to Messers Kenwright and Wyness ref. the early season ticket renewal system, if 20 odd thousand cough up the relevant money to renew there tickets and the likes of Arteta, Yobo and Cahill are sold on you will have a lot of disgruntled and let down fans on your hands. You have been warned. Kevin Jones. (23/04/06)

Lay Off Moyes

Recently fans have turned on moyes and kenwright recently i was on a certain radio station and said fans should lay off david moyes and suggested that moyes should bring more youth players though the ranks and also he should go down the leagues and find a few bargains. Now fans are forgetting for a good few years ago we were battling relegation with the likes of walter smith and joe royle and i think since david moyes has been at the club he has made us as a better team this year he got us in the champions league and we crashed out of that and the uefa cup too. Fans must realise David Moyes is slowing and steadily making everton football club a good side which is starting to compete at the right end of the table for european football I've noticed if we draw or lose a game fans quickly attack moyes saying his tactics are wrong and calling for his head that's wrong we should keep faith with moyes and next season I'm sure our squad will have a better season than they have so far. Mark Talent. (21/04/06)

Anything Matteo Ferrari can do....

I would like to tell David Moyes that I am available to play any time he wants me. I'm sure I fit the bill in terms of fitness and technique PLUS I've been a blue for 45 years.. I don't mind saying 'I love them'.

CV - I played for my school team but really preferred athletics and cross country. Nevertheless, I developed good all-round skills and great stamina. I could run for miles. My heart rate was down to 70bpm. I sadly had a knee injury that laid me up for 6 months - diagnosed as damaged cartilage and cruciate ligament problems. Not having the access to expensive medical back-up it took some years for these problems to improve. Actually, they hardly have! As I've got older I've turned this to my advantage by playing a slow passing game, usually to myself in the hope that no one comes near me. This has meant that I have developed a unique style of play reminiscent of many fine Brazilian stars. So, I'm up for a game. It shouldn't be hard to choose given the age of the current defence and the odd striker. By the way, I'm 55 years old - forgot to say that. But, I don't mind taking about £30,000 per week - it will help pay for my holidays, after I've cleared my debts of course.

So come on Moyesy, give us a call.......ps forgot to say, I broke my back 10 years ago - does that count? Peete. (21/04/06)

Fans Should Play Their Part

My God! Over half of the Evertonians should be ashamed of themselves. Everyone has their own opinion about the team and moans more than anything. However, many are hypocrites. The ground has been silent. The last few games against spurs, sunderland and villa, the famous 12th man at goodison has been missing. And no one can claim its up to the players on the park to inspire us to sing. Villa 3-0 at half time, nuf said. Sunderland 1-0 up after 5 mins against a team bottom of the league. If the fans had got behind the team at that stage we probably would of gone on to win the game 3/4-nil. So before attacking the team look at yourself.

Oh and about Moyes.. the best manger we have had since Kendal. his good signings outweigh the bad (which are so few you can count on one hand) and we are constantly finishing higher than before. Just think about this... remember the Walter Smith days... we'd be down by now. COYB Ali. Main Stand. (21/04/06)

Shite

I have three season tickets, why because I'm a blue however I am frustrated at the drivel coming from Moyes. He says the players have nothing to prove. Since that statement on sky we have died, no pace, no idea, no heart. How can he say he was happy with players at Chelsea. We were awful in our lat two games. I think the goalies have had to save two shots only. When can we see youth on the bench instead of the old lags who can't change a game when you need to. If someone else tells me that Carsley is good player I'll lynch them. In two games he has been booked sent off and for a defensive midfield player he doesn't get close enough to opposition players to close them down. Why? Because he is to slow and knows they go past him, not the future for me. Suppose I'll pay the renewal fees and hope we see some younger players who are hungry to succeed. Dave Carroll. (21/04/06)

Here We Go Again!

There are some right muppets out there, by this I mean both Everton players, management and fans. How can anybody be pleased with the way we have played recently. To draw at home with Sunderland. To draw 0-0 with Charlton. To get beaten the way we did against Spurs. And to play as badly as we did against Chelsea.

When the fuck will Moyes and Irvine realise that Kilbane, Ferguson, Weir and Carsley are not worth a piss on never mind a place in the team. Never mind the " loyalty " and how well they have done in the fucking past for us, its now we need decent players and these just don't fall into that category. We have a real issue at Everton with " loyalty " and "sentiment" to long term players, we should be more ruthless, look at that fat little granny shagging, ginger cunt who lifted his shirt to reveal "once a blue always a blue ",clearly a dig at the jug eared fucker who has flopped everywhere ever since. Then what did the Cunt go and do?

Gravesen - let the fucker rot in Spain - he only came good in the last season, - we have arteta who is class Barmby -another money grabbing little fucker who is playing at the level he deserves. Moyes and the rest of you " blinkered lot who are happy with the teams performance, especially the " wake up and smell the coffee.

At the mo there are 8 teams worse than us, what will it be at the end of the season, probably less I would say! Oh by the way this is not saying I want Moyes out etc etc before the knobhead's who misinterpret or can't read start replying. It's just he needs to start picking a team with a view to a longer term strategy and let Weir, Ferguson, Kilbane etc go. Chris P. (21/04/06)

No Complaints

Just a short blather to-day. Moysie pissed me off again after the Spurs game. "No complaints" no fuckin complaints, we are back to the the old lets play like shite attitude again. He keeps banging on about avin loads to play for and that he wont stand for anything less than 100%. Well he should fuckin tell the players that. Or maybe he does and half of the overpaid pricks are sayin fuck you Ging I've got a months holiday in the Maldives coming up or in Tiny's case 2 weeks in Germany (cos that's how long those kangaroo/sheep shaggers will last). So you see Davie boy I've got quite a few complaints nothing changed it could ave been another Notlob home game on, Sat 0-1flattered us. My big complaint is you as I've said before you are starting to sound more like Walter after every iffy result and fuck me there's been a few of them this season. My point is that you should be complaining, complaining about lack of effort from certain ( I cant be arsed naming them they know who they are) lack of ability from others, lack of funding and backing from that woefully inept shithouse of a boardroom. But you wont cos deep down I think you're a bit of a bottler.
Finally a couple of conspiracy theories to chew over. I'm sure we all saw Leprechaun's muted goal celebrations on Sat after he scored it was like he was sorry he'd scored not like the fat boy when he was at Goodison with the Mancs. Could he be on his way to us????.

And what about you Our Tata, where do your loyalties ly?? Could'nt quite make the Derby was that cos they are going to be your paymasters next year?? Has your next door neighbour Alponzo tapped you up?. The Monday after you where supposed to be doing an open Q&A forum on the official EFC website and the plug was pulled mysteriously on the morning due to unforeseen circumstances (what a load of fuckin bollocks) to be re-scheduled at a later date. Well there's plenty of time for that now that your ankles playing up Funny that no chance of Europe 4 or 5 non descript games left. No point in gettin properly hurt in action before your big summer pay day.
We're tired of the spin Blues it would be nice to have some honesty from the players (you too Yobo) No chance of that though if they see the bullshit emitting down from the boardroom and out through the manager.
Chris B (the original Wirral Blue) (21/04/06)

Not Good Enough

Okay! We stayed up.......but that's all you can say for this season, after failing in europe!

I have followed Everton from the age of ten...38yrs. No doubt there others who have followed them longer. Yes the Premier league is a difficult league, and yes money talks, in order to challenge for the title and European places!...........but look at our squad! Do you as a supporter honestly believe that if we stick with this squad for the 2006/2007 season that we are going to win anything! I don't!

David Moyes congratulates Spurs on their season and performance at Goodison on Saturday. What about the 38,000 fans Moyesy lad? Who turned up to see an Everton victory.........its a crap squad with a crap, tactically inept, manager, and I have had it with the Manager and the Board. 4-1-4-1 What a load of shite!

Ferguson, Weir, Stubbs, Carsley, Pistone, Valente, Martyn........7 first team players over the age of 30.........and a joke of a keeper in Richard Wright. All bodes well for the future, doesn't it Moyes and Kenwright? If it wasn't for an inspired Martyn, Arteta and Cahill, we would have been relegated.

If the current Board has not got the financial capacity to fund a rebuild.......get out....... and give someone else a go!

Everton HAVE to rebuild, with quality players! Mark my words, there will a lot of hot air from the Manager and the Board, in the close season....................."He wouldn't come"..."We couldn't afford him"! "Other clubs were more appealing"! "We've tried our best"! and yes with a World cup 2 months away......... all the top clubs will beat us to the best players!

If the Board doesn't give assurances to the fans and the Manager NOW, of their intention to finance and strenghthen........then I for one won't even bother to follow or support this once great club after 38 years!

No complaints about the endeavour of the players.........but there is little quality........and no blend of youth in the important areas of the squad! Money has been squandered to paint over the cracks..........but all in all,we'll be lucky to stay up 2006/2007! Mal(Trueblue) but not holdings!
(21/04/06)

What can you say?

Praise the lord!! but the truth of lack of tansfer activity comes to bite the arse of that most skillfull of negotiators..MOYES. Bloody ell! I'm sitting in front of the computer screen trying desperately to put into words the frustration I'm feeling. To all you brain dead moyesophiles who are just content to bleat aimlessly. "In Moyes we trust..blah, blah,....top ten finish..blah, blah...fourth last year....blah, blah, yawn".....WAKE UP!
As more and more injuries pile up don't you finally realise just how poorly the club has been run by Moyes, Kenwright and the board? An intsy bitsy squad led by tiny men with no ambition, is that what you want?

2 points from the last twelve, clueless players beating their chests before games claiming they're going to do this and do that but failing to back up their words with action...now Arteta and Hibbert injured. Just what did he think he was doing this season? If you have a manager at least have someone who can piss with the big boys, not just someone who quite literally shit himself when this most crucial of seasons started.

I remember squirming uncomfortably in my armchair when Moyes was being interviewed on telly and claiming that Everton were the best team on Merseyside for a change..I thought to myself, "You've made the boast now back it up next season". Did he do that? what do you think? Bugs. (21/04/06)

END OF SEASON

AFTER THE SPURS GAME IT APPEARS THAT THE PLAYERS ARE DOING WHAT THEY USUALLY DO AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.THEY ARE SAFE FROM RELEGATION AND HAVE NO CHANCE OF GETTING INTO EUROPE SO THEY HAVE GIVEN UP.THE LAST THREE GAMES HAVE BEEN DREADFULL AND REINFORCE THE FACT THAT THE WHOLE CLUB LACKS AMBITION. WITH EACH POSITION IN THE LEAGUE WORTH MORE THAN HALF A MILLION POUNDS THE PLAYERS SHOULD REALISE THAT THE HIGHER WE FINISH THE MORE CHANCE THERE IS OF ATTRACTING BETTER PLAYERS TO THE CLUB THUS ENABLING US TO ACHIEVE MORE AND SO ON. LETS HOPE WE CAN MOVE SOME OF THE PLAYERS ON DURING THE SUMMER AND TRY TO BUILD THE TEAM AROUND THE LIKES OF ARTETA, YOBO, FERRARI AND BEATTIE (THATS IF THEY HANG AROUND)
STEVE. PARKEND. (21/04/06)
