M.B.E's Stadium Article

This response may well be based on "ignorance rather than intelligence" but it is how I feel about the Stadium issues that M.B.E. latest article has raised. It’s not the moving to Kirkby or wherever, it’s the fact that our neighbours can bulldoze their way to a new stadium 100 meters away taking with it 100 or 200 years of history, listed buildings and half of a public park to cater for people who predominantly don’t come from Merseyside.

Am I making this up or did we have plans which would have encroached into the park by 20 meters, not half of it , only to be told that under no circumstances can we do anything to a protected public park. Did we buy a school with the idea of moving another school into it in order for us to maybe have potential to redevelop a stand only to be told that we can’t do it as it is not fair or some other bullshit reason. It feels like we have been knocked back at every given opportunity whilst our neighbours have managed to overcome every obstacle to get what they want.

M.B.E.'s article again raises some very valid arguments though I feel that at times a tad condescending.

To quote his last article "Where the first alternative is concerned it gets tiresome to repeat this: the present site boundaries mean it is virtually impossible to provide an acceptable symmetrical design solution". Could the same "tiresome" reason not be applied to Anfield and its move into Stanley park, of course it could! The difference is that they have gone to every length to push this through and have had people in positions of influence to make sure that it has happened by any means.

Whereas it feels like we are repeatedly kicked in the bollocks by the powers that be. That may sound like paranoia but that is how I feel! Obviously if we had the cash to oil the wheels of industry then we would be sitting in the kings dock laughing our socks off but we don’t. Maybe the only way of staying at the current site is to look at "the history" of other clubs and how they managed to acquire land to re-develop on their existing footprints by fair means or foul!.

I have nothing against Kirkby, some of my family live there. That is not the issue. To me it feels like we are being "bullied" into moving out of Liverpool. The club has to do something, it cannot stand still for much longer. Parkender. (06/12/06)

Hillsborough Revisited

As a loyal and proud blue from St Domingo Road, Everton, could I raise a slightly contentious issue? Recently one Kelvin McKenzie raised the issue of Hillsborough again, I'm sure you are all aware of what was said and reported in the media, and again called into question the actions and behaviour of LFC supporters on that tragic day. I have many abiding memories from that day, watching the events unfurl on the press screens at Villa Park while our game against Norwich was being played out, the murmurs of rioting fans coming through on some old guys radio a few seats ahead of us, to returning to our car and listening in. I still have photographs of what should have been happy Evertonians, reveling in reaching wembley again, filing past, sullen, shocked and upset.

Once word had filtered through about the magnitude and severity of what had taken place, among Evertonians there was no celebration only concern. You see, we in this city share a passion for our teams, we bicker and argue and stand our ground. We have passion and belief and a fair share of contempt for the opposition, yet some things, some events bring out a fraternal feeling, there but the grace of God etc, because Hillsborough was a pinnacle moment in footballing history, how greed and lack of understanding of ordinary people brought about one of the worst disasters of any kind on British soil.

It was man made. Unfortunately the relatives of those who died still fight to this day for those culpable to be recognised as such, a struggle which is only exascerbated by opening up slow healing wounds for the want of some biased media attention.
Step forward Kelvin McKenzie.

For those of you who remember that day, those of you present in this city in the aftermath and who stood shoulder to shoulder with friends, relatives and neighbours regardless of the fact that they supported the opposition, remind yourself that the Hillsborough campaign carries on. Remind yourself about the lack of justice that followed, and though just a small and to some, meaningless gesture, remind yourself of the reasons not to buy the Sun newspaper. Despite the fact that he is only a columnist there now, the only way to get at someone like McKenzie is peaceful protest, and hitting the sales does that. If you see someone buying or reading the Sun, stop them, give them their money back and trash it.
Don't get all sanctimonious on my ass, this is about what is right and what is wrong, it has no colour, blue or red, and if you can help the campaign, then do so. Magic Juan. Onwards Evertonians. (06/12/06)

Stadium

Mickey Blue Eyes. Extremely erudite and spot on. A pleasure to read. John de Frece. (06/12/06)

Everton 2 West Ham 0

During our last few matches I am afraid to say that I have found watching Everton to be a boring chore that I was doomed to the day I began following the club, a sentiment which seemed to continue throughout the 40 odd West Ham corners in the first half. But leon's strike renewed my faith. Brilliant 2nd half, bit like the way fulham went against us recently. MOM Van der Meyde, although Howard is shaping up to be player of the season for my money. Jumpin' Jack Flash. (06/12/06)

Rooney

Don't you think it's time to forgive Rooney for deserting the BLUES for the SCUM. I am saving up to take him and his sidekick ronaldo to a slap up meal in a Sushi bar where that Russian fella went. Maxwell Callister. (06/12/06)

Moyes Waffle

Anybody noticed how much better David Moyes is getting at talking "Waffle" to the media, it's a pity the team isn't getting any better. He's starting to remind me of Brian Little before Tranmere got rid ( now he could really talk Gobbledegook). What happened to all our hopes when he came from Preston 4.5 years ago. They say a manager either gets time or money, never both. Well Moyes has had both and we're still no further forward. One of his most recent quotes "You won't hear me talking about a top six finish and putting pressure on the players". What a sad thing for an Everton Manager to say! It's time he went back to Scotland ( with his boy McFadden and a few of the other duds that he's signed ) as he's out of his depth. Dave Jones of Cardiff has done well everywhere he's been. It's time for a change before before Moyes bores us all into submission. Bryan Gribben. (06/12/06)

Advent Calendar

Top drawer, nice one. Dr. Richard A. Hughes. (06/12/06)

Sell Beattie

I'm sorry to say it because i was a fan of his, but Beattie ain't making it for us, he's slow, lacks the £6m edge and defiantly not good enough for us or England. It's like Marcus Bent started to play shite for us we knew he didn't want to be here, but what makes it hard to take is, that beattie hasn't been with us that long and we paid heavy for him. Plus we all expected quality for a forward that produced for Southampton. I think that's what's hard to take, the fact that he was quality wen he came but now he's totally lost it. Fair do's he didn't have an awful game against manure but he ain't doing nothing that's making us all believe that he's fit to wear the blue shirt. I'm sorry but sell him in January for £3m. We are not going to get anything near £6m?

Again the boys done ok, didn't deserve the score line, but were not at full strength, so maybe I expected to concede 1 maybe 2 at a push but 3 tells a tale, hope we can keep our heads up and take our frustration on west ham, hate them, (show us how to play football at goodison, last season, Alan Pardew, cheeky twat). Wayne Rooney will get his comeuppance, believe me, he deserves fuck all from Evertonians, apart from grief, traitor to the grave. Nice one bluekipper Joe smith. Domingo vale (original). (01/12/06)

Manure 3-0

Moyes was his incompetent self as always. What is the point of having Victor on the bench, if you cant even give him a run out when you’re 2-0 down and doing nothing. To add insult to injury he then tells us that the pairing of Beattie and McFadden worked well – hello they were both crap. Forget wasting more of our money in January Dave (Neville/Davies/Beattie/Van Der Meyde) just pack your bags and go back to the Championship were you belong. Two wins in eleven and going nowhere yet again! Brian Sheerin. (01/12/06)

Get rid and get rid now!

I know I keep on about this but it really is getting beyond the pale. We have two, yes two, promising young strikers in Vaughan and Anichebe and yet they cannot get a game. Instead David Moyes continues to play that prat James "I`m a striker" McFadden. Not only that but he has recently announced that he is sure that McFadden has matured and will hopefully start scoring some goals. Well Mr. Moyes I have some news for you. McFadden could not score in a brothel !

It is time to get rid of McFadden. There will be no takers in the Premiership but I am sure he would do well if he went back to Scotland where the standard of football would be more to his liking. Down here he looks well out of his depth. Although I am still optimistic about our season as the teams around us are doing no better but there has to come a time when David Moyes will have to bite the bullet and stick one of our proper strikers in. If you are good enough you are old enough ! I still maintain that Beattie should be given a chance. Even when he has started the game I don`t think he has been allowed to play the full ninety minutes. Or he is slung on, when the game is beyond us, for the last twenty minutes. I don`t think anybody would prosper under those circumstances. Still hoping Blue. John. (01/12/06)

Poor Squad

I could see things were going downhill again six games ago, if we happen to score first, god forbid!! you know we'll try and defend unsuccessfull and draw. If we go behind there's no chance we'll equalise, so we lose again!! Where is this man taking us with his squad made up of very average to poor players. Take out the obvious class ones, the few and we are a sorry sight. Beattie and Mcduff have to go. The weak midfield needs a ball winner and leader, and he say's he's happy with what he's got. Well I'm not!! Tony Graham. (01/12/06)

Ambition

David Moyes to quote "I like what I've got at the moment"! talking of the January transfer window and his squad. I thought young managers where supposed to be ambitious? I thought he was building a squad for the future.... to compete at the top of the league, Europe, and in cup games to aim for cup finals and dare I say trophies! That is what Football players and Managers are in the game for!...........and this what the fans are paying for, and waiting for it to happen!

I will guarantee you that Everton will draw a blank this season. It is survival at all costs to keep the shareholders happy, and maintain Premier league status for the revenue! You would think that we should be grateful to be playing in the Top league and yes the fans are grateful and it could be worse, we could be a Leeds, a Sunderland or a Notts forest.............but what is the point if, when you are at the top, you don't have ambitions to win things!

The bottom line is this! Moyes has made a few good signings(even though his tactics are cr-p), and there is potential to build upon what we've got. He should be imploring the board and sponsors to back him with money NOW, in order to push on, because if they don't push on from here, there is only one way to go, and its not up! Get my drift?

The good players at an optimum age now. i.e Cahill, Arteta, Johnson are the key to our future. If we build around them, we will start to compete at the top, but failure to do this in the next 8 months, will clearly spell out the clubs ambitions!

I had my say on apathy and disillusionment in the game of football last week. I would like to have faith in the Board, the Manager and the club, but seeing is believing..........and when I see it......I will believe it! Mal (trueblue)..........But not holdings. (01/12/06)

Charlton Goal

Point 1: What the fuck was Valente doing?
Point 2: What the fuck was 'Shoeless Joe' playing at?????
Martin Roberts. (29/11/06)

Nil Satis

I think Moyes should take the bull by the horns and let Davies go on a swap to west brom for Jason Koumas (a player I think we should have acquired some time ago) it would give Davies a fresh chance to buck his fucking ideas up and us a chance to access Koumas before January. I think now would be a good time to retire Davie Weir, he was a bargain buy when we first got him but is now several seasons past his best, also his presence seems to impede the progress of our other centre backs (lescott and yobo) and his presence also stifles the role that Phil Neville has as Captain. we are playing Utd tonight and I feel we should put more youngsters in the squad for this one as Utd are on fire at present. It is time to let vic and Vaughany loose on the prem and I couldn't think of a better bunch of fans than the mancs to start. Everton forever. Chris Simpson. (29/11/06)

Transfer Funds

Is it only me who hasn't forgot that when Rooney signed another contract with the Mancs it was built into the deal that we get another 1.5million. This money alongside the 2.5m we got from Wigan for Forest Gump should mean we have a minimum of 4m to spend in the January transfer window.

I'd sell Beattie to Newcastle or Boro (cause they buy anyone) for say 4m and show Charlton the 8M for Darren Bent. If we get fucked off how about going for Robbie Keane (again) or Gareth Barry and Steve Sidwell, who's contract runs out at the end of the season anyway. I'd also hate to see Shaun Wright Phillips go to West Ham for something daft like 8M-10M without us being mentioned. Chelsea let Duff go for 5m a year or so after buying him from Blackburn for 17m. Get it sorted Bill for fucks sake. Alan Birtles. (29/11/06)

Charlton v Everton Game

I was watching the Charlton game on tele and I am very annoyed. Firstly, Nuno should know better not to keep the ball for that long and should just hoof the ball away. Joleon Lescott plays as 'if in doubt kick it out' and Nuno should follow that example. Secondly, Joey Yobo should have waited until play stops to put his boot back on. The ball was just inches away from him and he should have still been watching the game and tried to block the effort . George Farr. (29/11/06)

Gary Speed

I met Gary Speed a few years ago at Newcastle airport. I went up and asked him what had happened to make him leave Everton. He told me that 2 days before the away game(was it West Ham?) he was called up by the hamper man and told not to turn up for the coach as he wasn't being picked. Next thing it is in the paper that he refused to play. This was all designed as a move to get rid of him and get some money in. He seemed genuine and to be telling the truth. He is upset about the treatment he gets but doesn't say anything as he had to sign a clause that he wouldn't speak to the press about why he never turned up. Once a blue always a blue is what they say so in my opinion we should treat him as one and stick it to Johnson the red. Steve Brown. (29/11/06)

Concentrate Joe!

At Charlton, Nuno Valente was at fault for their goal for loosing possession in such a crucial area, but equally Joey Yobo has to also look at himself. He found himself in no mans land against Aston Villa. This week it was more important to put his boot back on rather than stand up an stick a leg out. Sometimes I think Joey Yobo needs to wake up and not be so casual as it is starting to cost us badly the lapses in concentration he suffers. Michael Hughes. (29/11/06)

Joey Yobo

Valente's defending was shocking but Yobo was unforgivable. What is he thinking stopping to put his boot on whilst the games goes on around him. He could have blocked that effort. He is good for conceding 4 or 5 (vital) goals a season through a lack of concentration.............he constantly lets himself down...he is a quality player but his defending comes with a price. We need another centre forward and another midfield player to secure European qualification............another fucked up weekend...........bizzyblue Leeds (27/11/06)

Top Eight At Best

Listen. Who do we think we are? Look at the size of the squad - and we ain't into Jan/ Feb yet with associated suspensions/injuries!!! We're not a top four side - we should be content with points total we have to date. Until Moyes has enough money to strengthen in depth or with quality it's top eight at best. Dave. (27/11/06)

New Signings Needed

Two PISS POOR teams and a waste of a Saturday. Badly need new signings in January. Budgie E.PORT. (27/11/06)

Van der Meyde

What is the latest on Van der Meyde? It appears that he is available for selection but I haven’t heard a thing since his dog was stolen. Please help a lifelong Bluenose out and fill me in. I’m curious as to what 5.5 million gets us these days apart from the drama and flying elbows. Cheers, Jeff Roberts. British Columbia, Canada. (27/11/06)

He Was Our Captain

I don't care how Gary Speed is greeted by Evertonians. What I do care about is my club. However, I can't forgive him for not turning up on the team bus for a match when he was our captain. Admittedly, signing for Dogleash only added fuel to the fire burning within my mind at the time. (What's going on at our club? What is really happening at board room level? Why can't Howard reproduce the team spirit of the 80's again? How could he sign for HIM when he's supposed to be a boyhood Blue? He's the fans' nominated recipient of the player of the season, must be a media story trying to unsettle us, he'll be there. etc. etc.) All sorts of thoughts and unanswered questions must have ran through everybody's head. But, HE WAS OUR CAPTAIN. He was the manager's choice to lead the team. An ambassador for us if you want to think of it another way, and he let us down.

Think back to other captains throughout our history who have seen good and bad times.

Dixie Dean: he didn't walk out on us when relegation became reality for the first time in our history.
Brian Labone: he didn't walk out when the championship winning side of was dismantled in front of our eyes and he had to play alongside the likes of Bernie Wright and Rod Belfit (as if it wasn't bad enough having a name straight from 'double entendre' heaven).
Dave Watson: stuck around after signing for a championship winning team and 500 games later having to lead us out for survival games against Wimbledon and Coventry.
Duncan Ferguson: may have had a knack of losing it and being sent off when we needed him most at tricky times of the year. But he fought (literally) for the club and turned up on that team bus when times were hard.

Surely any of these captains could have walked? But they didn't.

Is it any coincidence therefore that they have been and always will be given (family members in attendance for Dixie and Brian naturally) that rousing reception at half time at Goodison?

Will Gary Speed ever receive an ovation from the fans even if we all agree and sign a legal statement never to boo again? Think about it.

He was our captain. Gwladys. (27/11/06)

Extra Xmas prezzies for Evertonians

It appears that unless something drastic happens children who don't support Liverpool F C will be getting a bumper Xmas stocking full of toys this year, since Santa will only have to arrange for an away win to grant the wishes of all the Kopite kids !!! Rudolf the Bluenose. (27/11/06)

Ferrari Then Lescott

Nice bit of news on Matteo Ferrari. Watched him alongside Joey at Pompey last season in the centre of defence and they were awesome. Thought we had finally found that centre back pairing for the 21st Century. CB was the guy’s best position. My disappointment at his departure has been well offset by the arrival of Joleon ‘Too Smooth’ Lescott. What a player he is. Nick Smith. (27/11/06)

Gary Speed Evertonian - Short Memory

I think Mikel Valentine has a short memory. Gary Speed is booed because he is the first Everton captain to refuse to turn out for the club when we played at Crystal Palace. We were bottom of the league at the time. I’ve heard various stories evoking reasons for this sacrilege but nothing stacks up. He was captain of the team he supported as a boy and he refused to play for the team “he loved” and shortly moved to Newcastle when Kenny Dalglish called. Carry on Boo Boys. Tom Coogan. (23/11/06)

Andy Johnson

It amazes me to read and hear some of the comments made by so called blues fans, on local & national radio and more so on our BLUE website's stating that he was a waste of money. I could spend all day defending him, but i'll let AJ do that himself, on the pitch, last saturday and the Villa game the snide remarks were being made about

his ability, while a regular player in the team also a international missed three great opportunist chances, but hardly a mention in the different media's, AJ like all great strikers is having his lean patch, I am very confident it will end sooner than later, and make the so called blues fans punch the air like they did when he help destroy the SHITE in September. Norman Merrill. (23/11/06)

No Franchise

Have just read Mal's post and I can agree with almost everything he says. Problem is though these things were probably said be my old guy and his old guy before him. The nature of the game these days can be wrapped up in one word 'franchise'. I think John McCrirrick said that when he bought Manure. That's what we have by definition if not by name at the moment and we're losing those days when the team played in a way that the supporters craved. It's like following a punk band and when they get to the difficult 3rd album go all country and western on you so they can sell more albums. That's why the entertainment value is slipping away from us, we're trying to appeal to a bigger audience.

Nobody wants success for Everton than me, we can all say that, but what I don't want is success at any price. I don't want what I consider to be the true heart and soul of our club and it's values cast aside for the want of a dollar. If that goes what's left? As long as there is commitment, hard work and passion displayed by the players in blue then I'm satisfied. That's the foundations of what I believe this club represents. MagicJuan. (23/11/06)

No Pressure On Andy

I think with the pressure building up on Andy Johnson it may make him less likely to score. Look what it has done to liverpool away 1 goal in 6 games. So I think the pressure needs to be lowered. It's not as if he is not scoring on purpose. Just let the lad do his own thing. Darren Q. (23/11/06)

Europe

Come on blue boys, we can get into Europe, EVERTON!! Sophia. (21/11/06)

Terry Curran

We met Terry Curran a few years back, we were on our way to Borough for an away game and we stopped on the A1 at some Greasy Spoon for a bite to eat. It was owned by Terry Curran’s Mother in Law and he was in the back. He came out and we had a brief chat. Really nice fella. We won the game and Tony Grant scored. Jon Green. (21/11/06)

Gary Speed - Evertonian

THIS IS A MESSAGE TO ALL THE DICKHEADS WHO JEER GARY SPEED EVERY-TIME HE COMES TO GOODISON. YOU'RE A GANG OF IGNORANT INFANTILE TOSSERS WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT GARY DID FOR THIS CLUB DURING HIS TIME AS A PLAYER. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ASK AN EMPLOYEE OF THE CLUB, OR BETTER STILL ASK HOWARD KENDALL.

GARY IS A BLUE AND ALWAYS WILL BE. JUST LIKE JOEY BARTON, WAYNE ROONEY AND ROBBIE FOWLER; BECAUSE THEY PULL ON A SHIRT MINUS THE EVERTON CREST, DOESN'T MEAN THEY HATE EVERTON. SUPPORTING THIS GREAT CLUB GOES DEEPER THAN SIMPLE LOYALTY - IT'S A WAY OF LIFE, SO WHEN GARY NEXT ARRIVES AT GOODISON - SURPRISE YOURSELF AND APPLAUD HIM - AND LET THE BOO-BOYS REVEL IN THEIR STUPIDITY.

QUESTION. WHO SCORED BOLTON'S FIRST GOAL IN THEIR 2 - 0 HOME WIN AGAINST THE SHITE EARLIER THIS SEASON? I'LL GIVE YOU A CLUE - IT RHYMES WITH BARRY MEAD! JUSTIFICATION? YOU BET YOUR ARSE! MERRY CHRISTMAS! MIKEL VALENTINE. (21/11/06)

Beattie's Chance

I think that he has the opportunity to show us all what a good player he really is. I'm a big fan of James who just needs that bit of confidence and match fitness to show he is worthy of a place in our team. I look back at some of the performances he put in last season, Blackburn at home and Fulham he was class. I think it will be good to see the 4-4-2 formation. Even in games that he didn’t score in last season he was still running endlessly and holding the ball up well up front by himself. Come on biffa you can do it I have full faith. Nicky, Anglesey. (21/11/06)

Magnificent Seven Evening

Thought the quote from Moyes was great about the arsenal 7-0 thrashing: "We were all still pissed from qualifying for the champions league." Comic was awful!! I was sitting next to Trevor Ross, try and get him/ Andy King, George Wood for a do, top amazing stories. Keep up the good work. Dell. (21/11/06)

Disillusionment, Puzzling Play and Tactics

It's easy to criticise, and you will always be told by those who think they know better, that your talking cr-p.......but everyone is allowed an opinion, and I am going to have my say!

It's not just Everton...its the Premier league........... Football in the Premier league is going to implode, High salaries, High ego's, High admission prices, to watch a spectacle that is becoming farcical from Players, Managers, and Referees. Players diving, cheating, and surrounding the referee.......... Managers arguing on the touchline, refusing to shake hands and give TV interviews........and Referees who can't make correct decisions and can't control players!

It will be along time before I step foot inside a football ground again, to watch the shenanigans of the a game that was once graced by Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore and co! Proper professional players!

Now David Moyes and Everton! There is no strength in depth yet, and the board appear to have gone hiding again, having given a pittance to the manager for signings considering that revenue from Season tickets, Sponsorship and ground admission must be around 20 million pounds a season.

I will not be paying extortionate prices to watch 4-1-4-1 or 4-5-1 call that entertainment, its tactical sh-te.......you only have to look how well the Red sh-te are doing with their inept manger and pathetic tactics? How these tactics have crept into the game is beyond me!

The game is fast becoming a farce, and I have started to turn off the TV or go to games, and you know what, its a crying shame not for the Directors, Managers, Players or Referees...........but for the fans. I have always followed Everton, but I am totally disillusioned. Mal would like to be a (Trueblue)..but not holdings!
