Stadium Vote

We Have To Move

I love Goodison and the thought of leaving gives me a heavy heart. I have seen the argument to build another tier on top of the park end, which would give a small increase in capacity, but we have to look at the real issue, Goodison is out dated, we have wooden seats, we have restricted views in 3 of our 4 stands, the toilets are from 1900 and the facilities are poor (not to mention all the dog cack that seems to surround our beloved stadium…..how many dog live around there??). If it was feasible to increase the capacity to 50,000, have new seats, re-structure our present stands so there was no obstructions and update the million other things that need doing I would demand we stay.

But this is NOT possible, and so we have two options,

1) “keeping tradition” which is very noble and sweet. or
2) do what Everton has needed to do for the past 15 years, move forward and look to the future rather than looking to the past all the time.

BORN A BLUE, DIE A BLUE – FOREVER EVERTON! Toffeesi. Bolton. (12/01/07)

Good Debate

After reading other people's views I concluded my own - stay in Liverpool! Someone's mentioned that other clubs have won fuck all since moving to new and bigger grounds and many also relegated. We were the FIRST club on Merseyside - fuck moving out of Kirkdale/Stanley Park area. Let's find somewhere closer than Kirkby. I think the council are all fuckin nob eds for doing this to our club. Any chance of someone producing a decent banner that can slag them off for next home game and dangle it from the Upper Gwladys! Eddie. (12/01/07)

Fans Not The Ground

I guess we should all resign ourselves that if we want to move back into that top 3 area (top 3 being Manure, Arse and Chelski) we are gonna have to move away from Goodison. It pains every blue but this is an unfortunate fact. I have spent some of the best days/nights of my life there, as many others have, but times have changed.... blame Sky TV, FIFA et al. In agreement with the comments of bluenoze, a major advantage that we have as a club is our passionate support. It is a fact that the atmosphere at Goodison is unsurpassed anywhere in the premiership, but this is more to do with the fans than the ground. However, Goodison is a cauldron, and that should be taken into account in the new stadium design. I think that we should build a 45 thousand seater, with plans in place for expansion at a later date (e.g. stands that another tier can be added to) . Old Trafford was not always 60 odd K , but they had the ability to expand. Newcastle have done a similar thing. We should also try and do away with this running track around the pitch idea... this is a football ground, the fans should be close to the action. I don't know how achievable this is as I am not an architect, but it seems that other clubs have managed it. Here's to a great 2007 and another hiding handed out to the sh1te. Thanks lads. Mark Warren. (12/01/07)

Goodison is our spiritual home

If you look at the likes of the emirates and the city of manchester stadium, you'll see that the atmosphere is shite. I'm with bluenoze on this one, we need to stay at Goodison and possibly increase the capacity. man.ure only just revamped old trafford to 70000, and if those cunts can sell out nearly every week surely we could cos Evertonians know their history and stick with their team through thick and thin. Here's to the future of Goodison Park and the many more championship winning sides that will play there. jumpin jack flash. (12/01/07)

Boys Pen

As with one of the previous posts I also remember the days when the "boys pen" would out-sing the rest of the Gwladys Street!! Sadly those were the days when football was a sport and not a business. The reality now is that I am logging on to various websites day after day wondering if we are going to sign anyone while West Ham and Aston Villa are spending millions. Goodison is not set up to generate enough revenue in the modern game and without a rich foreign benefactor that’s the only way to raise money.

I see some people saying we wouldn’t fill a large stadium but those of us who were at Wembley in the 80's will remember 70,000 evertonians against Watford and thousands locked out. The supporters are out there so why aren't they going to games. I feel its lack of success. In the glory years of the 80's Goodison was sold out, at cup finals you queue up for hours for a ticket and last season against Villareal - sold out. If we raise more money, improve the team, get success then the gates will rise.

My final thought is a plea to the club, if and when you build a new stadium don’t put the prices up through the roof. Bully will be sorely tempted to recoup the investment as soon as he can but I think that will be something that will destroy the loyal fan base. Dave W. (12/01/07)

Put Another Tier On Park End

True Evertonians will support the club wherever we play. My fear is that the special atmosphere that ''old lady Goodison'' generates will be lost, especially if we can't fill a 50,000 capacity stadium!! Look at the Gooners, they have struggled since leaving Highbury. The best outcome would be to increase the present capacity to 45,000, or
48,000, at Goodison by building an upper tier to the Park end.
Bluenoze. (09/01/07)

Move But Not Kirkby

Why move to Kirkby when there's still enough room for a big ground in Liverpool. We should definitely move but not out of Liverpool and what happened to the kings dock stadium would love to be sitting in that watching the blues. Phil Gore. (09/01/07)

People not the Place

I grew up spitting distance from Goodison, I was one of them kids that used to "mind" your car then spend all the money I collected to get into Goodison cheap at half time. I spent years of my life freezing my arse off in that open corner of the Lower Gwladys st.

I now live in Reading and went to the madjeski last season to see my eldest lad play in a half time kids shoot out thingy (watch out AJ). Anyway it’s a lovely shiny forgettable stadium and I heard about 300 millwall fans out sing 15000 reading fans despite reading shitting on them 5-0. I was gonna say that place had no soul but it wasn’t the place it's just that berkshire folk know fuck all about footy and are even less passionate about it. I got excited telling my son how noisy a real footy match is. I for one would be absolutely gutted if Everton leave Goodison but it's not the bricks and mortar or even the pissy gray urinals that make Goodison great it’s the die hard bluetothebone fans that make it such a storm of blue fortress. I doubt Dixie Dean would have died in his armchair at home if we'd moved years ago because he couldn’t bear the thought of going to kirkby for the afternoon.

A new stadium rarely equals new found success on the pitch but if old lady Goodison was rushed down the road to Walton hospital she'd have a "do not resuscitate" sign on her bed. We need a better stadium with better facilities. We need boxes full of corporate hospitality tossers spending their money on our club. Incidentally I always thought kirkby was Liverpool. It's only a county map that says it's not. Everything else still points to the fact that kirkby is part of Liverpool.

It would be a great shame to leave goodison not to go into each county road pub on the way home not to crowd into those narrow streets as you get closer to goodison etc etc however it seems the council don’t want a glorious re-developed gp and all that goes with it. what a shame the city of culture ostracizes and defiles one of its own richest pools of culture. But sod them where ever everton end up the fans will be there despite our moaning but please bill lets just dig up that pitch and take it with us!!!!!!

Oh fuck just thought on I was born in fazakerley hospital is that within the city boundaries???? Pls don’t tell me I'm just a plassy scouser. John Alverez. (09/01/07)

What's all the fuss about?

I am fourteen years old and have been an Evertonian for as long as I can remember. Admittedly I was not there to see all of the famous Goodison nights like the Bayern Munich game and the championship winning seasons, but Goodison still holds many memories for me. However, a move to a new stadium is necessary if we are to move forward and be a championship winning club again like in the past. Why should it be a problem if this stadium is outside Liverpool? As Alan Stubbs said a few weeks ago, when he's asked where he's from he says "Kirkby, Liverpool", not "Kirkby, Knowsley Council". Also, it is clear that as a club we would not be able to afford a new ground, but with the investment of the Tesco owner it surely benefits everyone (especially as he's an Evertonian himself). The new training ground is currently being built and that is in Halewood, so how come no one is kicking up a fuss that we are moving away from Bellefield out of Liverpool?

In response to Jim from Birmingham's email, does it really matter if we go through a transitional season where we get accustomed to our new home, it is hardly likely that we will be relegated with players like Vaughan, Vidarsson, Hughes and Anichebe having come through by then, don't forget that Joleon Lescott will also still be around. He also says that Middlesbrough, Bolton, Sunderland and Derby have all had new grounds and been relegated, but aren't Bolton and Boro back in the top league now, and correct me if I'm wrong but aren't Bolton now one of the top six clubs in England (regretfully, all they do is bully teams)? The other two, Sunderland and Derby, are both back on the up now. Roy Keane has taken over at Sunderland and Derby have now rebuilt and are second or third in the Championship. As somebody else has also said, Old Trafford is not in Manchester and I'm not that sure if Man City's ground is in Manchester either. If you look at all of these new stadiums in this country and abroad, I don't think that many are actually in the centre of town.

I know many are still unconvinced and will question why Liverpool got in there first over the Stanley Park proposal, but the fact is that we just have to get on with it and even though Goodison holds lots of memories, those memories will stay with the fans and Everton FC wherever we play. Just get behind Kenwright and the board and lets trust them to help us move on as a club. Here's to some championship wins at Kirby. NSNO. George, Northwich. (09/01/07)

Do Not Rip The Heart Out Of Everton

I remember back in 1966-a good year we moved from a prefab off Stanley road in Kirkdale to Halewood so that Dad would be closer to work-guess where? We were devastated, four kids two bedrooms but we didn't want to go. Of course we did not know any better. Halewood was a vast improvement on what we had.

Any new stadium will be a vast improvement to Goodison in material terms but, as with Kirkdale, and Scotty road for that matter, be careful that you do not rip the heart out and end up with a vast space with no soul.
Redevelop Goodison-How? Where will we play whilst it happens, surely not across the park? It could be done piecemeal as the original stands were but then with such a restricted footprint there would be no space for the commercial enterprises that will cover some of the costs.

How much would it cost to buy the houses of those evertonians living in Gwladys st and Goodison Rd? Could we buy the school (offer a replacement) and houses on Bullens road. Would we be able to compulsory purchase those who will not sell? The council tenants that are still there, would the club have to force them to Skem'?
Kirkby is not ideal as a location, nowhere other than Goodison Park ever could be!

How about building on the park? I for one am disgusted that the other club are even contemplating taking part of a public amenity away at a time when all public space is under pressure from developers. It shows just what the Board of that club think of the people of the city not to mention the council.

If a housing estate is to replace our spiritual home then a condition of sale must be that the fans, via the website's get to name the roads. That way it may be gone but it certainly will not be forgotten. I also like the idea of a roundabout with a memorial on it. AJH. The son of a son of a son of a Toffee.

Liverpool City Council

Just found this on the Liverpool FC city council page. It states that:
"Football in Liverpool: Football is a big passion for many people who live in Liverpool, whether they play or watch the game."
"Professional football: Liverpool is home to two world-famous football teams, Liverpool FC and Everton FC."

A. How long do they want to claim this (not long unless they get off their fat cat ar$e$ and open their red tinted eyes)

B. Notice that Alphabetical and Historical order was ignored and that the Shite have once again been given bigger billing. Yes Liverpool FC brings a lot of outside money into the city, some from away fans too!! but why does this always happen?
Ste Kelly. Born a blue, Live a blue, Die a blue. (09/01/07)

Vote The Councilors Out

I really don't know what to make of this. That fucking council bent over back ways for the redshite and block us at every turn. I don't know if we should move because of the pricks or stay in spite of them. Do people in Kirkby not regard themselves as Scousers? I very much doubt it. So to say we'd be leaving the city is a bit silly. On the other hand, if you think we deserve a site within the city boundaries, make your vote count at the next local elections. Do not vote for any member of the present council that opposes us moving within the city. You might not think this is an effective solution but remember this; When you vote, you are not only voting someone in, you also vote everybody else out. If enough of those scum bag politicians get word of blues being unhappy this WILL become an election campaign issue. Cheers, Dicey. (09/01/07)

New Goodison

My concern about the Kirkby Stadium issue has nothing to do with Kirkby being inside Knowsley and not Liverpool. In my view Kirkby is for intense and purposes part of Greater Liverpool, whose people are scousers through and through. My concern, and it worries the s**t out of me, that moving to the outskirts of the city is the right decision. My doubt is born from what I have read and heard about Juventus and Turin doing something similar and it being and unmitigated failure. The downfall of their new ground, as is often the case in life, can not be put down to one single thing, it is an accumulation of numerous problems. See the following link which describes the problem they have encountered and what they are doing to overcome the situation.

http://bianconeri.tripod.com/dellealpi.html

So my preference would be to redevelop Goodison and the surrounding area, it is my firm belief it would not be impossible to do this with the backing of the Local Council. Looking at the view of Goodison from Google Earth it shows clearly that the compulsory purchase of approximately 20 homes, the school and part of the breakers yard this would give land to build a great stadium.

Can someone please tell me why this is not being perused by the powers that be, and if it is being perused and being knocked back by LCC, under what grounds and who exactly in LCC is saying no – I cant help feeling more transparency is needed over this issue. Regards. Andy Naybour. (09/01/07)

New stadium has got to have a bit of WOW

Looking at various website's and letter pages it seems about 50/50 at the moment on the ground move and I would think that most of the waverers will be won over if the new stadium has got a bit of WOW about it. Wherever it is built we should only be happy with something that is unique to Everton, 2-tiers all round (one on top of the other, not one behind the other like most new grounds) close to the pitch to keep a bit of the Goodison atmosphere and put the wind up the likes of Chelsea/ Mourinho as we did on Sunday. We don't want a soul-less place like the New Emirates with every one miles away from the touchline. Lets do it our way. Come on you blues. Brian Preston. (09/01/07)

Direct Your Anger Towards Your Councillor

Listen up all you Muppets that are under the jurisdiction of Liverpool Council! These are the plebs you should be directing your anger at, not the board of EFC. Your friendly local councillors who are part of one of the worst run councils in the UK have done fuck all to help EFC with there proposed move to a new stadium. At every turn, from us asking for Stanley Park, changing the footprint of Goodison, The Kings Dock, planning Permission for Goodison and Bellefield they have stabbed us in the back. So instead of moaning at Bill get down to your next local constituency meeting and give your local councillor grief. I live in Halewood and travel to the game every week, no complaints I love the club, I hope the new stadium goes ahead , not only will I be able to walk 3 mins across the road to watch the blueboys train in there new state of the art training complex it will only take me 10 mins to get to the new stadium. Alan. Halewood Blue. (09/01/07)

What Atmosphere?

I hear people saying that the atmosphere will never be reproduced at the new stadium, but deep down we all know that there has been very little or no atmosphere at Goodison for years now. I was at the Chelsea game and while our players were giving their all and at times outplaying the
expensive mercenaries the majority of our supporters were sat eating the prawn sandwiches and making no noise. Stu in Walton. (09/01/07)

Groundshare

Will someone please explain why a groundshare is so wrong? I have read all the current views in the last week or so and it has been a bit of roller coaster emotionally because I cannot decide what Everton should do for the best. Clubs with fans as fanatical as Evertonians share grounds in Italy and Spain why cannot we do the same? In my opinion I think this would be the best solution long term.Graham. (09/01/07)

Every Little Helps?? I Think Not...

Fellow Blues. I have to say that I am in agreement with the previous contribution from Nicholas Hughes. Some of the points that he made were on the money and highlight many of the things that seem to have been forgotten amidst this whole saga, namely:

1) Why did the supposed new crop of fans we'll capture by moving to Kirkby never come to Goodison, given that it’s only 4 miles away?

2) By leaving the city boundaries we are simply giving in to the red-tainted Council who would like nothing more, it appears, than for us Blues to be "out of sight, out of mind". You can be guaranteed that were Everton to move away from Goodison, the Council will approve a new development in its place that would be completely out of character with the area and which would simply add insult to injury for the fans and residents in the vicinity of Goodison. A high density, mixed use scheme of apartments and commercial/retail premises springs to mind. Approval would involve a huge capital contribution from the developers to the Council, not to mention the annual rates and rents payable annually thereafter. Win-win for the council.

3) This proposal stinks of Tesco taking advantage of a major commercial initiative while EFC have put on the "rose-tinted glasses" and think a new stadium will answer all the problems. What a load of rubbish! Sustaining the progress on the field under Moyesy and off the field by Bully should be the priority. Furthermore, the stadium would be designed and built on a shoestring budget in order to provide for Tesco's pockets to be lined all the more. What do Tesco care about our beloved club? Why should they care? They're a business...end of story.

In my opinion, with reference to the Tesco proposal ONLY, I would much prefer to see the Blues remain at Goodison Park, even if it meant its redevelopment resulted in a REDUCED capacity from the present day. That is how strongly I am opposed to this particular move. Goodison is the lifeblood of the club. Take it away and what's left? Us...the fans...the soul. The only time a move away from our spiritual home should be considered is when we, the fans, are in a majority as to the benefits of such a move. It is clear to me from reading the comments posted thus far that the majority of fans oppose this move. Tom Loughrey (09/01/07).

Stay With The Goodison Atmosphere

I am an Evertonian from across the water. I travel to Goodison 4 or 5 times a season. Half the buzz for me is heading to the Winslow before the game and enjoying the banter before heading in to the old lady. I was at sunday's game and I think the players reacted to the atmosphere that was at Goodison and we nearly got a result. Will a bigger stadium affect us like it has Arsenal? I'm sure if you ask any of our players and they will tell you they love the atmosphere at Goodison. I think stay where we are. I'm sure we can do something to Goodison. Derek Murphy. Cork. (09/01/07)

New Ground - Get Relegated

Just a small point which doesn't seem to have been discussed. City, Boro, Southampton, Derby, Sunderland, Leicester and you could argue, Arsenal - have all moved to new grounds and won fuck all! In fact 4 of them got relegated. Cheers Scraggy. (09/01/07)

Stay Home

Which would you rather have, a move to Kirkby or share a ground with the shite? I'd rather lose my left ball than see the latter happen...on the other hand there are too many fond memories and too much much history at Goodison park for the board at Everton to pimp us out to Tesco's; put the money into developing the ground, just because the shite FC are happy to up sticks and leave Analfield doesn't mean we should follow suit, Liverpool belongs to us we are the peoples club. They have no soul or spirit, we are the true heart of Merseyside, lets
us not carve it out lets us wear it with pride, generations of Evertonians regard Goodison park as our spiritual home, my mate Gazza's Grandad told him when he was a small boy, "you're either a red or blue, son", and took him to anfield then to Goodison, he chose red...my Dad took me to Goodison, that was all I needed to know, and I get the same feeling still every time, develop Goodison or younger generations will end up going to the dark side. Change is not always for the best. Blue Bill Cannie, drunk and ranting. (09/01/07)

Lets Move

I do believe we are in desperate need of a new stadium (my heart bleeds thinking of my many memories at Goodison). Relying on the council is a bad move. We are a massive club with a massive support structure, if we built a 100,000 seater stadium, I believe we would fill it. We can't afford to be sitting in the shadows of the shite, we are a sleeping giant but we have been sleeping for 20 years and its time to wake up!!!! It's in the best interest for all Evertonians that we get behind any decision to make us bigger and better, the real fans will remember the history at Goodison and that should prove our catapult to further great success. It pains me to see shite like Man City, Newcastle and Middlesboro in these glorious stadiums having to endure wank performances like they produce. We are a fantastic club, that doesn't change just because you move 4miles down the road!! The decision has to be based on what's best for Everton Football club and I believe that's moving. Zippy the biggest blue in London. (09/01/07)

No Pubs In Kirkby

I can't believe some Evertonians wanting two move to Kirkby, 1st team in the city, lets stay or move around by Sandhills/Bankhall north end where there is plenty of land a stones throw from Goodison and County road. What are you gonna do before and after the match? Go 2 Tesco's shopping!!! or all pile in 'The Johnny Todd' the only boozer around there. So to all you blues who want to move get a fucking grip. Think about it. Ste O'connor, Anfield. (09/01/07)

Walton Hall Park

I think most people are having a brainstorm re;the proposed move to Kirkby. Why are the city council not offering us the same deal as LFC. We have another park called Walton Hall Park and it is only used for amateur football on sat and sun, so if LCC really want us to stay in the city give us four acres to build a stadium. I am surprised that EFC haven't mentioned this or they happy to go anywhere that Tesco want them to as part of Tesco plc. Kenny. (09/01/07)

The People's Club

Everton consider themselves the people's club so why are they thinking of moving the ground away from the people if the redshite can move a few hundred yards then we should renew our case for encroaching onto Stanley park and having a shared car park between the two grounds. Any move away from the area will prove fatal as the appeal for a lot of fans is that the ground is in the city. Any ground built away from the city will reduce the number of fans who go there so that in the future their offspring will start watching the redshite. Liverpool will end up like Newcastle with a monopoly of the cities fans and Everton's decline will then be in full swing. I suggest those at the club think carefully you have already squandered the money from the sale of Rooney and mismanaged us out of a European run last season that should have been more lucrative than just embarrassing. I for one hope you have Everton's long term future in mind. It's now time to start producing and give Evertonians the ground and team that we deserve. Chris Simpson EFC. (09/01/07)

Ground Move

It's New Years Day and I thought I would catch up on my favourite web site (The Best) and started reading the e-mails re "moving". Everybody is entitled to their opinions and we all assume we know best but having read thru most of your recent e-mails I feel I have to make some comments re the City council. It seems true that we have been left behind by the council and left to our own devices but some blues out there need to know that we are dealing with two separate situations here not just the council leaving us out.

1) Everton Fc can not afford to build a new stadium on it's own (re Kings Dock). At least some, if not half, the price of a new stadium will have to be met an investor/partner, virtually all new stadia have investor/partners of some sort, even the shite are having to collaborate with a slave trader to get to a 60,000 seat cameldome. Tesco seem to be the only real investor/partner to step up to the plate in recent times (Greg just didn't have the cash to carry the Kings Dock project thru, although nobody could have envisaged the price going thru the roof) and we know Tesco have got a few quid, how much they will give us only depends on what they can get out of it. I read in the Sunday Times business section that Tesco have purchased 40% of all new retail land in England in the last year and this has got the other retailers very worried indeed as this probably means lots of new Tesco's popping up all over the place. Now Tesco don't just want to build a new Tesco in Kirkby they want to build a shopping experience/retail park, Oh and a football ground for us, they can build a shop virtually anywhere they want as town planers try to regenerate old parts of towns and city's so for them to want a partner up with us is no mean feat on behalf of the Everton board. In conclusion of this point Everton need a Investor/partner to move forward or we will be at "restricted view" Goodison for a long while yet.

2) Liverpool City council and its leader, I am sure do not want to loose EFC to another borough, but it's hands are tied in a couple of ways. A) They are not in a position to give Council tax payers money away to help us build a new stadium some where in the city, just supplying the land cheap will not be enough for EFC to be able to move. B) I am sure that the council have signed agreements with the Grovenor developers at Paradise street to not allow any new large retail building within a certain mile radius of their development and within a certain time scale, so this means EFC and our only real Investor/partner can not build in Speke/Netherfield/Queens dock/Heritage site (by the way this building is protected from demolition) or any of the parks that are regularly mentioned on this site in conjunction with Tesco.

Tesco are not philanthropic they are a very good profit making machine and we will do well to stick with them and if this means Kirkby then so be it. I am a season ticket holder in the top balcony and over the xmas period have had to buy extra tickets for visiting family and friends who only want to watch the blues (nothing red in my house even over xmas, went to the world cup but only with a blue and white England flag, so that I could sit with my family/friends in the top balcony we had to suffer restricted views, great games but those post really spoil my day.

I suppose I have rantered on like the rest of you but I am entitled to my opinion I just hope I have shed some light on the Council position, who knows they might be concocting an alternative plan as we speak and we can have the best of all worlds a new stadium built at Goodison Park, mind you that might just be to close to the cameldome and we will get a waft of camel shit drifting over what will be left of Stanley park on match days. Keep the faith P.M. Huyton. (01/01/07)
